The sixteenth full-length studio album by legendary British Heavy/Doom Metal band.
One of Sabbath's heaviest albums and the first studio album in over a decade to feature vocalist Ronnie James Dio and drummer Vinny Appice, and their first in nine years to feature original bassist Geezer Butler. Although the Sabbath lineup was the same as on 1981's "Mob Rules", the musical direction is very different, and a marked change from their previous material, particularly the preceding "Tyr". Much of the album anticipates the directions taken by Dio in his eponymous solo band's next two records, "Strange Highways" (1993) and "Angry Machines" (1996).
Black Sabbath and Dio created a monster of an album. Ronnie James Dio delivers his strongest performance since the early '80s, and hearing Geezer Butler and Tony Iommi play together after nine years is inspiring. Commercially, the album marked a resurgence for Black Sabbath. It reached the Top 40 in the UK, and peaked at number 44 on the Billboard 200 chart.

CD presents finally developed distinctive style of the band – evil guitar-based Technical Black Metal. The voice of Lord Demogorgon was put on top in order to make clear the significant part of Black Shadow – extreme lyrics in Russian. In general, the album sounds as one piece rather than a compilation of songs – it’s a solid alloy of anger, hatred and speed. Headbanging riffs and blast-beats alternate with slow heavy inserts, guitar melodies and melodic solos.
Great sound of the album and improved the quality of the material.
Advised to all fans of Black Metal, regardless of personal preferences! This album of Black Shadow is melodic, angry, technically and interesting!!

Black Shadow is a long-running Russian Black Metal duo featuring Lord Demogorgon (on vocals, bass and guitar) and Asmodeus (on guitar).
Release includes four studio tracks recorded back in 2002 and four bonus live tracks taken from the Moscow show (November 18, 2004). It was originally released by SBM Records in limited quantity to 100 copies and became rare.
In May of 2015, all album tracks were re-mixed and the completely new artwork was made. The new sound is clearer and thicker.
Musical material presented on the album is fast and technical Melodic Black Metal in the vein of such Swedish icons like Setherial and Dark Funeral with distinctive Russian lyrics by Lord Demogorgon.
Black Shadow is at home with hyper-speed blasting stuff, not giving much mercy to the listeners while letting the band invade your speakers. All the studio stuff sounds really good, but the same cannot be said about the bonus live tracks. Those sound really raw and extremely unpolished.

After touring activities ended for their very successful debut “Black Symphony”, main man Rick Plester built a recording studio and began assembling the next record. This would feature a new line up with vocalist Ric Plamondon, new drummer Pete Holmes (Ted Nugent, Black n Blue, MSG, Yngwie Malmsteen, Ian Gillian), and keyboardist Mattias Burstrom. This record again became a success out selling their first release and being nominated best of 2002 in Europe, finishing 3rd for all Hard Rock/Metal artists. Charting in most counties outside North America, the band had great momentum.
Unfortunate the band never toured this record too heavily as the record company debt to the band grew and an unfix able situation was occurring thus the fans were left out in the cold. After a legal battle of the band and record label, lasting 3 years, finally in 2005 it came to an end with the demise of their record label and Black Symphony were free to go elsewhere.
Influenced by bands like Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, AC/DC, old Metallica and Pink Floyd, this band reminds very much Evergrey. However, they have totally digested their influences and Black Symphony can be proud to have now their own style.
The "fist in the face" comes from the production, which is really powerful, and from all these sounds used by the band to create another dimension inside each song. This band knows how to sound really heavy and melodic at the same time.
Lyricaly, it's a concept-album about religions. Lyrics, which are excellent, highlight the wars between humans who like different Gods ... but in fact, this is the "perfect justification" for their crimes. Songs like "Tears Of Blood I" & "II", "Death", "Take Me Down" or "I Am Hate" are based on complex song-writing, but are easily accessible for the listener.
This album is sheer awesome. It's one of the most complete, consistent albums ever. Musically, this album is just pure win. Awesome shredding riffs and guitar solos are accompanied by some excellent drumming. It's a fairly Proggy album, but don't get turned off by that. The guitar work is truely a highlight!
There are absolutely no bad songs on this album, and each is just as good as the other! If you can find it, buy this album, it's just that good!!

This first album featured a good recording. The sound of the band is highly competent. A Speed Metal furious, fast, but without ceasing to be heavy. Fabricio Ripper's vocals are quite intelligible, and the songs presented in this work are all sung in Portuguese. Finally, an album showed maturity, even though the band very young. And it is hard not to get excited about bangers like "The Ripper", "Total Destruction" or "Attack". It put the sound to roll, increase in stem and headbanging nonstop!!

Formed in early 2011, these guys rapidly made a name for themselves in Spain and released their first 3-track EP “Devious Insane” a year later which received great reviews and acclaim. In 2014 they’re back with their brand new 4-track EP.
“World Of Lies” is just under 20 minutes in length and sounds like your typical new age of Thrash album, which is not a bad thing. Blast Off do have potential to make it big here as some of the music that comes out of this album is very good indeed, it just lacks a little in originality.
All in all, “World Of Lies” is a damn good release and tops its predecessor of 2012. Blast Off hold a lot of potential with their music!

Of course their influences are imprinted really well in their music and no one will get bothered by a track reminding Cannibal Corpse or another reminding of Deicide. On the contrary. They are filtered so well to make em their own, forming their own style in the genre. All gets tied up together in a great packaging.
A really nice effort and a CD that can be listened without sweat over and over again. And that is a quality itself in music!!!

Bleeding Gods are a band that combine Death and Thrash Metal to great results.
The band was formed back in 2012 by Ramon Ploeg when he left his former band Houwister. The lineup also features members of Sinister, Debauchery, Altar and more.
Outside of the acoustic piece that appears as the fifth track, the 9 other cuts focus on a Groovy concoction of heavy riffs, growly (but discernable) vocals and tempos that range from up beat Thrash and blasting action to solid Metal parts that force audiences to elevate adrenaline to unforeseen levels.
Meat and potatoes cuts like "Abyss of the World", the Slayer-esque "Rise from Ashes", and hauntingly evil "Human Weakness" serve notice that this quintet is perfectly content to just keep their sound at the roots of the movement - not overly technical but crushing just the same. The final song "Symbolic Sculptures has a lot of rhythmic qualities both vocally and musically to the early Obituary years during the first half of the song, before Edwin van den Eeden elevates his drumming to Punk-like Thrash madness with some Lombardo-like kick fills.
This is a great first album for this band. They clearly have a strong idea of what they want to sound like, and they have the musicianship and talent to bring that to life. If you like Thrash-infused Death Metal, then "Shepherd Of Souls" will definitely turn you into a part of this bands ever-growing flock!

Blind Ego is a side project of Kalle Wallner, guitarist of RPWL. Just as in Blind Ego’s first album, "Mirror", Wallner asked Paul Wrightson (ex-Arena) to do the vocals. John Jowitt (IQ) and Sebastian Harnack (Sylvan) play the bass, and drummer Michael Schwager (Dreamscape) completes the line-up.
With the second album, Kalle Wallner - the rather Prog-savvy musician, chose for a mixture of Prog Rock and Prog Metal. As a result, "Numb" is a very good Progressive album. This album is a sensible development since the emotional debut album “Mirror”, a clear snapshot of overwhelming feelings – always straight and Rock. All songs are vital, melodious and have nice choruses. Some songs start mysteriously with sounds capes, while others grasp you straight by the throat. "Risk" is the only short acoustic ballad on the album, well sung by Wrightson. Although "Numb" is a heavy album, there is enough variation. Yogi Lang (RPWL) did a perfect job on the album – a crystal clear production with a modern sound.
With special guest appearances, such as of Igor Cavalera (Sepultura), this album is an absolutely must-have for fans of solid Metal!

This album continues a stylistic change from Power Metal into a more Progressive sound, with multiple overlaid vocals, choirs, orchestral keys and guitar leads, and less emphasis on powerful guitar riffs and heavy rhythms. Every song is filled with such a large amount of variation, of layers, of little detailed flourishes and touches that make it stand out from the previous, it's an impossible argument to claim that the album was written with anything less than pure passion.
The greatest strength of this album is that it fully embraces its own identity. Rather than recycling old ideas of the band's former works, it adapts them and envelopes them in this new style that is prominent from the first few seconds of the opening track. It's a brave and bold new direction, a benchmark for the band that they would continuously try and surpass with every album since this one. It's not an album for everyone, but it's an album that oozes personality, love and passion through every second of its run time. If it clicks with you, you will likely feel the same!

Like no other this band is inspired by the medieval fantasy worlds that literature has given to us, most notably J.R.R., and combines it with the high energy Speed and Power Metal styles they have endorsed since their beginning. This album follows the old Blind Guardian's formula, with some twists and touches thrown in (the band credits this as the reason for the album title.) It's straight up Power/Speed Metal like Blind Guardian has always done it. Although Blind Guardian are very innovative and don't stand still on any record, nor here, there are two or three tracks absolutely do without.
It's a very good record, superb release from an excellent band, very consistent throughout. It has some nice twists to it, especially with the Folk influences, and the lyrical content at times deviating from the Blind Guardian’s fantasy-based lyrics. It conforms to all the clichés the other albums this band has released conform to.
If you've liked Blind Guardian all these years, you'll approve of this one for its consistency and innovations at the same time. It's a step back, but a step forward at the same time! Good Power Metal don't get any better than this!!

"At The Edge Of Time" is a fairly diverse album that got influences from Euro-Folk to Classical to Progressive Rock. These German veterans have been around since the mid-’80s, and whether they are being influenced for, "At The Edge Of Time" maintains a stubbornly pre-’90s outlook - both musically and lyrically. The lyrics are strictly fantasy-based, as were so many pre-90s Metal lyrics. Blind Guardian continue to live and breath the ’70s and ’80s, reminding us that they enjoy the pomp of Queen as much as they enjoy the pomp of Iron Maiden and Judas Priest.
Some will complain that this 64-minute CD sounds dated, but then, dated is exactly what Blind Guardian are going for; they don’t run away from it, they embrace it. Besides, one man’s dated is another man’s classicist.
Maybe not quite essential, "At The Edge Of Time" is an engaging album that not only achieves a fair amount of diversity within a Power and Progressive Metal framework - it is also one of the more consistent releases that Blind Guardian have provided in the 21st century!

In comparison to their compatriots, their sophomore release can be considered underrated compared to the rest of their discography. Granted, it is still an important album in the early formative years of Power Metal. On "Battalions Of Fear" they had a raw proto-Power Metal sound, taking the template from bands like Judas Priest and Iron Maiden and simply playing it faster. They took this Speed Metal sound and amplified it further on "Follow The Blind", playing furious tempo songs interspersed with the occasional Folky keyboard. The Speed Metal here is almost Thrash Metal-like, minus the aggression. According to guitarist Marcus Siepen, "When we were doing "Follow The Blind", we were listening to a lot of Thrash Metal bands like Testament or Forbidden, and that's why "Follow The Blind" was a bit heavier".
"Follow The Blind" shows Power Metal in its early hybrid stages. There is a lot of youthful vitality and energy here, which helps to balance out their relative inexperience. It is clear that this early in their career they have not reached their songwriting or lyrical capacity, but they still offer over 38 minutes of pure fun Speedy mayhem!

The atmosphere of this album is darker in comparison to their earlier works, such as "Battalions Of Fear", which had a relatively light tone.
"Imaginations From The Other Side" reiterates on the quasi-conceptual character of the two previous studio releases and, perhaps, ups the ante somewhat: the titular opening piece abstracts from particular imaginative stories and instead tells a story about imagination itself, referencing the childhood escapist-fantasies of The Wizard of Oz, Peter Pan, Alice in Wonderland and Chronicles of Narnia. The album proceeds to tell the story of a child’s escape through a mirror to an Arthurian world of swords, dragons and crusades before being brought back to reality. This story is picked up again twenty years later on the "Beyond The Red Mirror" album, which tells the story of how the ‘other side’ has fallen into darkness, and the quest to find a way back.
"Imaginations From The Other Side" is the last album to feature Hansi Kürsch on bass, who would thenceforth give himself over entirely to vocal and lyric-writing duties.
This album also marks the first, since "Battalions Of Fear", in which Kai Hansen (Helloween, Gamma Ray) did not guest on vocals or guitar. It was also their first album to spawn Singles, "A Past and Future Secret" and "Bright Eyes".
In 2005, "Imaginations From The Other Side" was ranked number 373 in Rock Hard Magazine's book of "The 500 Greatest Rock & Metal Albums of All Time". Loudwire named the album at second in their list "Top 25 Power Metal Albums of All Time" and Metal Hammer ranked it at third in a similar list.
No doubts, one of the best Blind Guardain albums and one of the best Heavy Metal album of all the times!

When new frontman, ex- Blowin´ Free singer Gary Wheeler, joined the band the classic line up was in place. "Perversum Maximum" was a huge step forward when it comes to both writing and production. Blind Petition embark on several international gigs and played for instance the music festival Muzika 90 in Donetsk in what was then the Soviet Union. The band opened up for bands like Motörhead, Black Sabbath, Krokus and Blue Öyster Cult.
