Second re-release of the sixth full-length album by the legendary American Progressive Death Metal band.
Like its predecessors, the album is Progressive and technically advanced. It also has higher production values than previous albums, being considerably less evil on its overall sound. It is notable that the average song length on this album is around five minutes, while it was around four minutes on "Human" and "Individual Thought Patterns", perhaps due to slowed down song tempos closer to that of traditional Death Metal. It was also the only album to feature Kelly Conlon on bass. Chuck Schuldiner's growl also became noticeably higher on this release, which was continued on their final studio album "The Sound Of Perseverance" and culminated with their cover of Judas Priest's "Painkiller".
The album was received very well by the music critics. Metal-Rules.com ranks the album as the 7th greatest Extreme Metal album and the 58th greatest Heavy Metal album of all time. As of 2002, Symbolic sold 36,000 copies in the U.S.

Re-release of the second full-length album by the cult Italian Thrash Metal band.
Apart from their debut full length album, Deathrage sees their sophomore (and final) full-length album getting reissue treatment as well by Punishment 18 Records. With the Italian Thrash outfit’s debut "Self Conditioned, Self Limited" leaving a rather deep impact with the speed and their references to classic Thrash bands such as Sadus and Dark Angel, it would be nice to hear the band’s progression and evolution that came with the introduction of new vocalist, Alex Nicolini.
Along with the inclusion of Nicolini, on "Down In The Depth Of Sickness", Deathrage ditches their classic Thrash Metal sound for one that is somewhat more Progressive than their previous material. For one, the band has taken down the speed by a notch, and from the melodic approach that is on opening track "D.I.T.D.O.S.", it sounds almost as though the band had taken a more traditional Heavy Metal route instead on "Down In The Depth Of Sickness", upping the heaviness for the reduction in speed on the album. From "Nobody Was Here" onwards, Nicolini’s vocal approach takes some getting used to, with his vocal being less gruff that that of his predecessor, with the aforementioned track even seeing him use a spoken style, though for the most part his vocals sound like a rather frustrated shout. Tracks such as "A Price Too High to Pay" further reinforce that touch of Heavy Metal with the riffs and the lead guitars, at the same time showing the light-hearted side of the band.
Deathrage has this time included some rather Progressive elements into their music, and this could be heard from the numerous rather sudden shifts in pace and tempo throughout the album. Furthermore, "Down In The Depth Of Sickness" also introduced a darker sound to Deathrage‘s music than before, and aside from the overall slower pace and heavier sound that the band utilised on the album, there is also the inclusion of sound and spoken samples at the background to create a lingering haunting atmosphere.
That said, there are still elements that are still reminiscent of their debut, and tracks like "Suicide Age" has a rather heavy Punk edge to it, with that simple single, repeating riff that lasts the entirety of the album and the gang-chants that accompany the track.
Re-edition features seven bonus demo tracks, and while the album tracks themselves might disappoint Thrashers that liked "Self Conditioned, Self Limited", these demo tracks manage to provide some salvation, having a sound closer to the band’s debut!

The fifth full-length album by the cult American Death/Thrash Metal band.
Wow, what an album! A dream for all fans of Razor, Dark Angel and Slayer!! What King Fowley and his companions have laid down here, though, is one of the best Thrash hammers of the year of 2005! At least if you prefer the old school and are able to digest Death Metal influences.
On the one hand Deceased nuke us with highly melodic killer riffs, on the other hand there are also really heavy blasting attacks to be heard. That said, you seriously had to worry about the health of Mr Fowley, as several surgeries, that were the consequence of a blood clot in the legs, an apoplexy caused by a nut-sized clot in the brain, the collapse of the right lung etc ultimately forced Fowley to hand over the drum duties to Dave Castillo and concentrate on the vocals only, otherwise the line-up stayed the same: Mark Adams (guitars), Mike Smith (guitars), Ley Snyder (bass). In return, tunes such as “The Kept” or the insane “Unwanted Memories” provide for perpetual erections and fractures of the neck vertebrae with all well-disposed Thrashers…
The Razor-like wrecking-ball is damn cool, too, sounds like the “Malicious Intent”-era of the Canadian founding fathers. Deceased stay in shape throughout and also serve breaks like “A Visit From The Dead” every now and then, which rocks decently nevertheless, but sounds somewhat slower, compared to the rest. There is variation thanks to breaks, tempo changes and technically perfect instrumentation. Countless killer riffs swirl around your ears. But on the whole, “Stop and Go” till you go ballistic rules. Fowley’s pissed off voice is just perfect for Thrash Metal! The fact that the dear man averted the grim reaper’s scythe gives the disc another kick into the ass and raises the aggro level!!
This is one of the best releases they have ever made!!!

Deep Purple simply were the finest musicians around in the early 70s. Legend is back with their best studio album since 1984’s "Perfect Strangers". It represents the first album for eleven years recorded by the reunited, the most successful and popular 'Mark II' line-up (Ritchie Blackmore and Roger Glover arrived from Rainbow, Ian Gillan from Black Sabbath, Jon Lord from Whitesnake, and Ian Paice from Gary Moore's backing band), the last being "Who Do We Think We Are" in 1973. It was the first Deep Purple studio album in nine years. It is one of the better examples of a reunion album, although the band's uneasy camaraderie only lasted a few more years.
Long before reunions became big-money pursuits, the key members of Deep Purple put aside differences that caused them to split in 1973 and, bowing not to financial concerns but public demand, reformed for their first album in 11 years and a subsequent blockbuster tour. While the record’s title cleverly acknowledges the long time the musicians spent apart, everything about the album confirms the inimitable blend of creative chemistry, crafty songwriting, and trademark skills shared by the five players.
All the hallmark traits from Deep Purple’s golden era (1970-1973) are on display throughout this platinum comeback affair, which has aged much better than most mid-80s efforts in terms of sound, performance, and content. At times mystical, aggressive, and dramatic, "Perfect Strangers" leaves a lasting impression courtesy of Ian Gillan’s leather-lunged vocal range, Roger Glover’s self-assured bass lines, Ian Paice’s titanium-tough drumming, and the trade-off soloing between the wizard-like, vibrato-emboldened guitar playing of Ritchie Blackmore and voodoo-casting organ spells of Jon Lord.

"Perfect Strangers" is hard, heavy purity, the last album Deep Purple crafted of its kind and one that stands right up to the ensemble’s classic “Fireball” and “Machine Head”!
The CD and cassette versions of the album contained the extra track "Not Responsible" (one of few Deep Purple songs with profane lyrics, as the word "fu***ng" can be heard in the song).
The album was remastered and reissued on 22 June 1999 with the bonus instrumental track "Son of Alerik". This fascinating, mid-tempo, ten-minute instrumental was the B-side of the "Perfect Strangers" 12" single in the U.K., 1984.

Though it was considered a disappointment upon its release (indeed, its production was much too sleek at times, and it lacked the creative daring of "Perfect Strangers"), 1987's "House Of Blue Light" has actually stood the test of time just as well, if not better, than its predecessor. This album showed Deep Purple searching for an 80s-flavored hit single, and by doing so, sounding similar to guitarist Ritchie Blackmore's other band, Rainbow.
Of the seventies Hard Rock dinosaurs that still roam the Earth, Deep Purple is one of the few with any credibility left in its crunch. "The House of Blue Light" is certainly a marked improvement over their lukewarm '84 comeback, "Perfect Strangers", and is as good as this band has ever been since its "Smoke On The Water" salad days.
"Bad Attitude" opens the album with five minutes of vintage "Machine Head" sludge - Ian Paice's thunder sticks calling the proceedings to order with a rigid goose-step beat, Ian Gillan raping his tonsils with the vigor of yesteryear. And "Mad Dog" is basically an '87-model "Highway Star," high-speed Metal fortified with Jon Lord's lusty Hammondorgan sound and the brass-knuckle guitar of Ritchie Blackmore.
The band has spiked its old hammer-and-anvil sound with a little future tech here and there: "The Unwritten Law" features subtly deployed electro-hand-claps and percolating sequencer amid its clenched-fist chorus and Blackmore's loco fretwork. But it's only when Purple turns on the retro-charm full blast that "The House Of Blue Light" really goes up in flames. "Hard Lovin' Woman" and "Dead or Alive" are both body-slam rockers in the old blitzkrieg spirit of "Speed King" and "Fireball", while Paice's sledgehammer-of-the-gods drumming and Blackmore's punch-your-lights-out chords keep "Call of the Wild", with its atypically Poppy hook, from turning into neo-Boston fluff.

Though it was considered a disappointment upon its release (indeed, its production was much too sleek at times, and it lacked the creative daring of "Perfect Strangers"), 1987's "House Of Blue Light" has actually stood the test of time just as well, if not better, than its predecessor. This album showed Deep Purple searching for an 80s-flavored hit single, and by doing so, sounding similar to guitarist Ritchie Blackmore's other band, Rainbow.
Of the seventies Hard Rock dinosaurs that still roam the Earth, Deep Purple is one of the few with any credibility left in its crunch. "The House of Blue Light" is certainly a marked improvement over their lukewarm '84 comeback, "Perfect Strangers", and is as good as this band has ever been since its "Smoke On The Water" salad days.

And "Mad Dog" is basically an '87-model "Highway Star," high-speed Metal fortified with Jon Lord's lusty Hammondorgan sound and the brass-knuckle guitar of Ritchie Blackmore.
The band has spiked its old hammer-and-anvil sound with a little future tech here and there: "The Unwritten Law" features subtly deployed electro-hand-claps and percolating sequencer amid its clenched-fist chorus and Blackmore's loco fretwork. But it's only when Purple turns on the retro-charm full blast that "The House Of Blue Light" really goes up in flames. With "Woman from Tokyo", "Fireball", and "Never Before" peeling off recent singles and "Speed King" excerpted from "Deep Purple In Rock", "24 Carat Purple" truly is a gold-plated depiction of the band at its all-time peak, before Ian Gillan and Roger Glover went their separate ways and an entire new journey kicked off with "Burn".
