Released in December 1998 in Finland and in the spring of 1999 worldwide, the album marked a definitive change in musical scope for Nightwish from their Folk-laden roots in "Angels Fall First", showcasing a more bombastic, Power Metal-oriented sound with faster tempos, harmonic guitar/keyboard leads, and plenty of double-bass-heavy drumwork. "Oceanborn"'s sound hearkens to a more dramatic approach in the overall musical scope, mostly relegated to the Symphonic keyboard work and lead singer Tarja Turunen's vocals.
"Oceanborn" has sold more than 68,000 copies in Finland. The single "Sleeping Sun" was released in August 1999, and the song has been included in every re-issue of the album since then. The album was released in the US by Century Media in March 2001.
Up to these days, Nightwish has never been able to repeat the magic that was present on this release, it is truly something that transcends the sub-genre it is lumped into!!

The fifth full-length studio album by the legendary Finnish Symphonic Power Metal band.
Nightwish's best-selling album to date, and the last album to feature Tarja Turunen on lead vocals.
The album cost nearly €250 000 to make, (1 000 000 including the videos), which made it Finland's most expensive recording ever until the release of Nightwish's next album, "Dark Passion Play", which cost over €500 000 to produce. As of 2013, "Once" had sold 2.3 million copies worldwide, becoming Nightwish's most successful album to date.
The album continues the more streamlined musical approach first heard on "Century Child", moving further away from the Power Metal-influenced sound of their previous albums into Symphonic Metal with a slightly more mainstream, approachable feel. "Once" utilizes a full orchestra in nine of the eleven songs on the album; unlike on "Century Child", Nightwish chose an orchestra outside of Finland, the London Philharmonic Orchestra, which has been featured on every album released since.
"Once" is their second album to feature a full-length song in Finnish, "Kuolema Tekee Taiteilijan". The band added new elements to their music for this album, such as the chorus riff and synthesized drum-beat of "Wish I Had an Angel", and a long prayer chant on "Creek Mary's Blood".
During the first week of its release, "Once" entered the Finnish, German and Norwegian charts at number one, later topping the European Top 100 Albums chart. It was also the first Nightwish album to chart in the United States, reaching No. 42 on the Billboard Top Heatseekers chart, and the band's first album to chart in UK, reaching No. 10 on the Rock Chart. In 2005, "Once" was ranked number 383 in Rock Hard Magazine's book "The 500 Greatest Rock & Metal Albums of All Time". In 2017, it was ranked 89th at Rolling Stone's "100 Greatest Metal Albums of All Time".
"Once" has been certified double Platinum in Finland, triple Gold in Germany, Gold in Sweden. The Single "Nemo" topped the charts in Finland and Hungary, and reached the top ten in four additional countries. It remained on the UK Rock Chart for more than a year. "Nemo" therefore remains their most successful single ever, and "Once" reached number 47 in the list of best-selling albums of all time in Finland. As of June 2013, the album had sold 2.3 million copies worldwide, becoming Nightwish's best-selling album to date.

The second EP by legendary Finnish Symphonic Power Metal band.
The EP has two new songs (“Tenth Man Down” and “Away”) and a remake of "Angels Fall First"'s “Astral Romance”, sung by Tony Kakko beside Tarja Turunen. The title song, “Over The Hill And Far Away”, is by Northern Irish singer and guitarist Gary Moore, and has backing vocals by Tuomas Holopainen and Kakko. Tapio Wilska sings on "10th Man Down".
Bassist Sami Vänskä left the band after its recording, due to musical differences between him and Tuomas Holopainen. He was replaced by the bassist and male vocalist, Marko Hietala.
The EP debuted at number one on the Finnish Singles Chart and spent twelve weeks in the top three, topping it for another four weeks and spending six weeks at number two. It charted for a total of 49 weeks, including two weeks in early 2004.
The EP has been awarded double-Platinum certification in Finland and has sold over 36,000 copies to date, becoming the sixth-best-selling Single of all time in Finland. "Over The Hills And Far Away" entered also the European charts, in the Top 100 of Germany, Austria, France and Switzerland.
Re-release contains six live tracks, taken from the live DVD "From Wishes To Eternity", recorded in Tampere, Finland, on 29 December 2000.

The first Single of the seventh full-length album by the legendary Finnish Symphonic Power Metal band.
It was released on 9 November 2011, twenty days prior to the album, along with a music video. The song premiered on Radio Rock, a Finnish radio station at 9.00 GMT +2 on 7 November 2011, two days before its commercial release.
Composer and band leader Tuomas Holopainen has said of "Storytime" that it "is a single that pretty well represents the whole album", and that it give a better picture of the album than "Eva" and "Amaranth" did as the first two singles to the 2007 album "Dark Passion Play".
After a mere week, the band announced that the single was topping the Finnish single chart. On 18 November the lyrics to the song were released in a YouTube video and on the band's website.
The music video to "Storytime" features the radio version of the song, which is one and a half minute shorter than the album version. The video shows the band playing the song in the suits they wear in the "Imaginaerum" film, and with characters from the film briefly shown throughout the video. The video cuts between this movie-like scene and footage of the band dressing up, and behind-the-scene footage from the making of the film.

The third full-length album by the legendary Finnish Symphonic Power Metal band.
While “Oceanborn” was the album that confirmed the band’s talent, “Wishmaster” was the album that brought consideration. Is considered by many fans as the best album so far. With that album, Nightwish strengthened its leader position in that new musical genre - Lyric Metal. Some songs became “classics”.
“Wishmaster”'s sound continues the bombastic Symphonic Power Metal approach originally featured on “Oceanborn”, albeit with more emphasis on atmosphere and melody versus powerful speed and heaviness. Perhaps even more so than its predecessor, “Wishmaster” has a very clear fantasy theme. While commonly considered to be closer to conventional Power Metal, there is still a great variety with slower songs.
“Wishmaster” was #1 in the official Finnish charts; the album also debuted in the European charts at #21 in Germany and #66 in France. Today, “Wishmaster” has sold more than 77,000 copies in Finland alone.
Thanks to this album, Nightwish saw one of their dreams come true - touring around the world as an headliner. No more constraint like the ones they had as a supporting group. They were free to offer their audience the show they wanted. Nightwish then gave a more than an hour and half show, offering the crowd the best of their first three albums, and an instrumental in order to let Tarja’s voice rest in the middle of the show.
In brief, “Wishmaster” is the album which made Nightwish take off and receive the fan's esteem the band deserved!

The second full-length album by American Black Metal band.
The Philadelphia-based band presents new seven tracks of Ambient Black Metal, with music and artwork based upon the Finnish national epic "The Kalevala" (a poetic book with a collection of myths and legends that occupies a prominent place in the Finnish Identity), with most songs adapted directly from the text. It is epic, melodic, aggressive and personal at once!
Indeed, what’s great about "The Child Must Die" is the way in which Nihilistinen Barbaarisuus manage to craft something that sounds distinctive and original while working within the established parameters of the Black Metal paradigm. The guitar and keyboard melodies that weave through the album are at once familiar and fresh, chilling you to the bone and worming their way into your skull throughout this all-too-brief thirty-three minute journey. It’s no secret that this style of keyboard-laden Black Metal has been done to Death, but what places NB head and shoulders above the hordes is the obvious passion that guitarist/bassist/mastermind Mika Mage still has for the genre in its purest form, and it is this passion that allows him to breath new life into it on "The Child Must Die" through unwavering dedication and a will to continuously improve and evolve his sound.

Remastered re-release of the debut full-length studio album by legendary American Grunge band.
“Bleach” was well received by critics, but failed to chart in the U.S. upon its original release.
The album was re-released internationally by Geffen Records in 1992 following the success of Nirvana's second album, “Nevermind” (1991). The re-release debuted at number 89 on the Billboard 200, and peaked at number 33 on the UK Albums Chart, and 34 on the Australian albums chart.
Since its release in 1989, “Bleach” has sold over 1.7 million units in the United States alone. It was certified Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America in February 1995. It has also been certified Gold by the Canadian Recording Industry Association. It is Sub Pop's best-selling release to date.
This is one case where the legend really precedes the record itself. Cut for about 600 dollars in Jack Endino's studio, over just a matter of days, this captures Nirvana at a formative stage, still indebted to the murk that became known as Grunge!

Second re-release of the third and the final full-length studio album by legendary American Grunge/Alternative Rock band.
Following the massive and unexpected commercial success of Nirvana's second album, "Nevermind", in 1991, the band had intended to "return to its roots" by recording a more abrasive and less mainstream-sounding release with polished production. To capture a more abrasive and natural sound, the band hired engineer Steve Albini to record "In Utero" during a two-week period in February 1993 at Pachyderm Studio in Cannon Falls, Minnesota. The music was recorded quickly with few studio embellishments, and the song lyrics and album packaging incorporated medical imagery that conveyed frontman Kurt Cobain's outlook on his publicized personal life and his band's newfound fame. Soon after recording was completed, rumors circulated in the press that DGC might not release the album in its original state, as the record label felt that the result was not commercially viable. Although Nirvana publicly denied the statements, the band opted to remix parts of the album. Albini declined to alter the album further, and ultimately the band hired R.E.M. producer Scott Litt to make minor changes to the album's sound and remix the singles "Heart-Shaped Box" and "All Apologies".
"In Utero" turned out to be Nirvana's last record, and it's hard not to hear it as Kurt Cobain's suicide note, since Albini's stark, uncompromising sound provides the perfect setting for Cobain's bleak, even nihilistic, lyrics. Even if the album wasn't a literal suicide note, it was certainly a conscious attempt to shed their audience - an attempt that worked, by the way, since the record had lost its momentum when Cobain died in the spring of 1994. Even though the band tempered some of Albini's extreme tactics in a remix, the record remains a deliberately alienating experience, front-loaded with many of its strongest songs, then descending into a series of brief, dissonant squalls before concluding with "All Apologies", which only gets sadder with each passing year. Throughout it all, Cobain's songwriting is typically haunting, and its best moments rank among his finest work, but the over-amped dynamicism of the recording seems like a way to camouflage his dispiritedness, as does the fact that he consigned such great songs as "Verse Chorus Verse" and "I Hate Myself and Want to Die" to compilations, when they would have fit, even illuminated the themes of "In Utero". Even without those songs, "In Utero" remains a shattering listen, whether it's viewed as Cobain's farewell letter or self-styled audience alienation. Few other records are as willfully difficult as this.
Upon release, "In Utero" entered the Billboard 200 chart at number one and received critical acclaim as a drastic departure from "Nevermind". Rolling Stone has ranked it at number 435 on its list "The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time". The album was also included in the book "1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die". The record has been certified five times Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America, and has sold 15 million copies worldwide.

The first compilation album by legendary American Alternative Rock/Grunge band.
"Incesticide" consists of their 1990 non-album single "Sliver", B-sides, demos, out-takes, cover versions, and radio broadcast recordings. 
The record label, Geffen, decided against heavily promoting the album, possibly to avoid a "Nirvana burnout" as the band had released "Nevermind" and four singles in the preceding fifteen months. Despite this lack of promotion and being a collection of old and new material, "Incesticide" debuted at number 51 in the Billboard 200 and sold 500,000 copies in two months. The album eventually reached number 39 on the Billboard 200. It was certified Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America. In the United Kingdom, the album debuted at number 17, and peaked at number 14.

Nirvana's first release on a major label and the first to feature drummer Dave Grohl, "Nevermind" features a more polished, radio-friendly sound than the band's prior work. The album became an unexpected critical and commercial success, charting highly on charts across the world.
"Nevermind" and its singles' success propelled Nirvana to being widely regarded as the biggest band in the world, with Cobain being dubbed by critics as the "voice of his generation". The album brought Grunge and Alternative Rock to a mainstream audience while ending the dominance of Hair Metal, drawing similarities to the early 1960s British Invasion of American popular music. It is also often credited with initiating a resurgence of interest in Punk culture among teenagers and young adults of Generation X. Remastered re-release of the cult acoustic live album by the legendary American Grunge band.
It features a performance taped at Sony Music Studios in New York City on November 18, 1993 for the television series MTV Unplugged. The show was first aired on the cable television network MTV on December 14, 1993. As opposed to traditional practice on the television series, Nirvana played a set list composed of mainly lesser-known material and cover versions of songs by The Vaselines, David Bowie, Meat Puppets (during which they were joined by two members of the band onstage), and Lead Belly.
“MTV Unplugged In New York” was the first Nirvana album released in the wake of the death of singer/guitarist Kurt Cobain. The album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200, and has become the band's most successful posthumous release, having been certified 5x Platinum in the United States by 1997. It also won the Grammy for Best Alternative Music Album in 1996. The performance was released on DVD in 2007.
“MTV Unplugged In New York” is a message from beyond the grave, a summation of Kurt Cobain's talents and pain so fascinating, it's hard to listen to repeatedly.

The second full-length studio album by Italian Progressive Heavy/Power Metal band.
This is Power Metal with actual riffs, as opposed to a lot of the riff-anaemic stuff that passes for European Power Metal these days!
It's not the squeaky-clean, hyper-polished Power Metal that you might be expecting. It's also not some super-Progressive, experimental stuff, it isn't. They do have some parts that give off that erratic Proggy vibe, but that doesn't dominate the album at all. The riffs stay nicely diatonic for the most part, and most of the songs follow standard approaches to composition. It's just that the arrangement and the execution both employ an uncommon level of creativity and experimentation, and the band aren't following any cookie-cutter formula for making their songs.out.
No Man Eyes have brought forth a very decent Heavy Metal album, made to perfectly fit into what the genre has become today.
For fans of Judas Priest, Nevermore, Rhapsody, and Blind Guardian.
