Most fans probably already know that Thrash Metal is a fusion of Punk Rock and Heavy Metal. Heavy Metal is still the dominant ingredient, but sometimes the Punk Rock aspect is a bit stronger than usual like in this case here. Extrema’s “The Old School EP” is definitely a Thrash Metal album, but the Thrash Metal’s Punk Rock roots shine through quite a bit.
Already with the first song, you get a super-fast Thrash Metal treatment with that certain Punk Rock touch that you can also hear on many Tankard albums. Their music is similar. Extrema’s (and Tankard’s) Thrash Metal is still a nice blend of Thrash Metal with a certain Punk Rock vibe and screaming guitars. Yes, the guitar is a bit repetitive at times, but it still suits the song just fine.
5-song EP also features 2 live bonus-tracks.
Overall, this is a nice EP. Extrema does obviously not reinvent the genre, but this is Old School Thrash Metal! Old School Tankard-style Thrash Metal just as it should be!!

Exumer has never been in a rush. The influential German Thrash veterans have not taken a typical career approach to being a band since they reformed in 2008. Still, "Possessed By Fire" (1986) and "Rising From The Sea" (1987) stand as highly-heralded triumphs of the genre, particularly the former. Upon reemerging from hibernation, Exumer released their third full-length worldwide on Metal Blade Records. "Fire & Damnation" was exceptionally well received, and the band performed a series of shows over the course of the following years across North America, Europe, and South America. Where Exumer goes, die-hard Thrash Metal fans surely follow.
As 2015 ended, Exumer teamed up with producer/engineer Waldemar Soychta at Waldstreet Sound in Dortmund, Germany. The result was "The Raging Tides", a deliberate and violent Thrash Metal attack that stays entirely true to the band's origins. Exumer have managed to outdo themselves with "The Raging Tides". Refusing to fall into the trap of slowing down or resting on their laurels, the band has instead put together ten songs that if they had been released in Thrash’s heyday would have been a true classic of the genre! F.E.A.S.T. is the brainchild of Italian born singer and guitarist Fabri Kiareli, who was infected with the Rock’n’Roll virus at an early age when he heard The Who’s “Pinball Wizard”. Spending some of his teen years in Mexico his first musical influences came mostly from the nearby USA. Inspired by the guitar playing of Eddie Van Halen, Randy Rhoads and Ace Frehley, Fabri teaches himself how to play guitar while rocking along to the riffs of his teenage idols.
Upon his return to Italy in the mid-80s, he started playing in Heavy Rock bands, drawing his influences from outfits like Dokken, Def Leppard, Ratt and White Lion. After being around for a while, he got to the attention of Pino Scotto, the former lead vocalist of Vanadium, one of the most successful Rock bands in Italy at that time. With his own project, Pino still had a big following and so Fabri had the fortune to play in front of larger audiences.
When the Grunge movement put Fabri’s Rock Star dreams to rest for a while, he started to explore different musical styles like Funk, Blues Rock and Soul. By that time, he also made his first experiences as a lead vocalist in a cover band.
Over the course of the years, he earned himself a solid reputation as a guitar player and a background vocalist for studio sessions and for live concerts. Meanwhile he has played with some well-known national artists in Italy like Gianna Nannini, Dolce Nera and Tricarico and he still continues his work as a “hired gun”.
When the new millennium dawned, Fabri rediscovered his old love for heavier sounds and he founded the band Mr. No, playing Rock covers as well as original material. With their busy touring schedule, the band became a staple in Northern Italy and Southern Switzerland.
The debut album “Rise” of Kiareli’s F.E.A.S.T. showcases the musical influences of its main man, ranging from straight ahead Heavy Rock anthems (“Fire And Dynamite”, “Feed The Hunger”, “(Ain’t Done) ‘Til It’s Over”) to Classic Rock power ballads (“Broken Dreams”, “Cold Hearted”), and from fast paced Metal tracks (“Win Or Lose”), to the epic masterpiece “The Meaning Of Life” and the Melodic Rock hymn “Follow The Way”.
Fabri handled most of the instruments on “Rise” himself, except for the drums.

Formerly known as Machine God, latest reunited with vocalist Marco Aro (formerly of The Haunted), Face Down gets down to business with their crushing Death/Thrash ferocity, a quite heavy wall-of-sound guitar style and angry, Hardcore-ish vocals.
Comparisons to Pantera are valid, as well as fellow Swedes such as Transport League or Mary Beats Jane, though these guys are perhaps a shade heavier. For forty-three minutes flat, the band go for the jugular without any respite whatsoever, ripping and snarling their way through ten songs that aren't so much aggressive as borderline barbaric. The crusty yet bass-heavy production doesn't make proceedings any prettier either, and that's just fine, really: this triptych makes "The Will to Power" one of the heaviest, catchiest and downright nasty Thrash Metal albums.

Starting their career in the early ‘90s when Grunge was taking over the music world, German Hard Rockers Fair Warning didn’t conform to the times and released their impressive self-titled debut in 1992. For those unfamiliar with Fair Warning, the band came together back in 1991, when former V2 vocalist Tommy Heart teamed up with bassist Ule Ritgen, who most recently had collaborated with Teutonic Proggers Zeno and former Scorpions axemeister Uli Jon Roth.
This is a band who, outside Germany and Japan, has perhaps not received the degree of recognition they definitely deserve. For long-standing fans, it’s a reminder of exactly where the band came from and how their sound has progressed.
Produced by Rafe McKenna (Ten, Giant/Bad Company/Tesla), the likes of Tyketto, Bonfire, Giant and Zeno are featured in here. A kicking mix of both US and European Hard Rock , excellent melodies, the perfect company for vacations and a brilliant future raised in front of Fair Warning. The 'ace' voice of Tommy Heart is as 'haunting' as the excellence in the album's songwriting and the rest of the musicians' playing.
The album went Platinum in band's native Germany.

Considered by many as the band's 'epitome' in their sort-lived career, "Rainmaker" sold really good in Japan - 140000 copies, during the Grunge 'tornado' - and 'established' the band as a fave for lots of melody-related Hard Rockers. Self-produced, this effort is slightly more 'mellow' related to the 1991 debut, now keener on the AOR 'key ingredients'. Acoustic guitars here and there, great soloing, terrific - again - vocals and a 'fat' rhythm section are included. Nonetheless, tunes like "Burning Heart" (the band's first single/video), "What Did You Find", "Get A Little Closer" and "Desolation Angels" - in a non-fillers album - will persuade you; objections overruled!
In terms of musical magic, this release offer you the chance to get a grip on some excellent compositions. Who can oppose to such superiority offered by Fair Warning, a German band that - proved or not - can touch your heart really deep!!

The band's final album to feature guitarist Jim Martin.
It was also the first album where vocalist Mike Patton had any substantial influence on the band's music, having been hired after the other band members had written and recorded everything for "The Real Thing", except vocals and most of the lyrics. The band stated that they wanted to move away from the Funk Metal style of their prior releases, towards a more "theatrical" sound.
In 2017, Rolling Stone Magazine ranked Angel Dust as 65th on their list of "The 100 Greatest Metal Albums of All Time", and in March 2023, ranked the album's second track, "Caffiene", at number 55 on their "100 Greatest Heavy Metal Songs of All Time" list.

Band came into being in 1967 in Bochun. The first LP of Faithful Breath, "Fading Beauty" from 1974, has meanwhile become a classic of Symphonic Rock and can definitely be recommended. In 1977/1978 they recorded their second album "Back On My Hill" - again including the mellotron - which was released, however, on legal grounds, only in 1980, on the Sky label.
The long track on the flip side has been played in keeping with the first LP's style. The first side consists of four shorter tracks already with some Hard Rock sounds - some few years later Faithful Breath should develop into a real Hard Rock and Metal band.
A real classic gem for all Hard Rock and Progressive lovers!!

"Light This City" was originally released in 2003 and was a smash success in Japan, a place where good taste apparently hasn’t died off completely. It was voted as album of the month in Japanese Burn! Magazine plus it peaked #11 at the country's Hard/Heavy charts. The band is most likely to draw comparisons to Bon Jovi, with lead vocalist Sergio Sabino particularly Jon Bon Jovi-esque in his tone and phrasing. But that’s not to dismiss "Light This City" from a heaping helping of Classic Melodic Rock sensibilities. The track list is a decent mix of sizzling rockers and heartfelt ballads. First up is “All I Want, All I Need”, a fast, up-tempo rocker that is definitely among the most like Bon Jovi on this package.
Following it up is “Cast Out The Rain”, slow and sweet as a ballad should be, showing off plenty of sensitivity in Sabino’s vocal delivery. Another sparkling power ballad is “Ending Song”, which has all the earnestness of such classics as “Every Rose Has Its Thorn” and “Don’t Know What You’ve Got (Til It’s Gone)”. “I’ve Been Missing You” starts off gentle as a lamb, then pumps up the volume with high-powered Rock goodness. The guitar solo on “Learned My Lesson” can stand up to anything Richie Sambora or Neal Schon can play, while the title track captures well the need to blow off steam after the workweek grind.
“Like a Shadow” and “Melting Your Ice” are polished gems glittering with shining vocals and gleaming guitars, a sharp contrast to “Please”, which boasts acoustic guitars and stripped-down percussion, making it the softest song on an otherwise powerful, ear-blasting ride.
This CD will surely please any AOR/Melodic Rock fan, as well as fan of fresh melodic Hard Rock as instructed by Bon Jovi and Harem Scarem in the 90s and onwards! Check it out!!
