The debut full-length album by Italian Progressive Metal band.
Let’s start to make one thing clear - his is a Big disc! Especially since the Fall Of Darkness exist in the current lineup for a little less than three years, after many changes in the line-up and sound. For once (finally!) we have a band that looks much more modest than what actually is its value: "Hello, we are the Fall Of Darkness from Pisa, and we are for you to enjoy".
The album opens with "Just Stop" and a carpet of strings accented by the battery of Marco Muscle. Percussive guitar riffs prepare the entrance to the voice of Claudio Andressi. Capable singers in this genre are more unique than rare, since the vast majority of these are believed to have involved the type, ignoring the need to study a lot. The shower is not enough. Andressi is a pleasant exception to that effect, tuned and prepared. As the piece proceeds we see more and more the great guitar work by Simone Marchetti (solo) and Matthew Lesti (rhythm): the riffs are far from obvious, it sounds very beautiful for a debut album. The instrumental section denotes a clearly inspired Prog 70s, particularly keyboardist Luca Guidi. Too often in this kind of Guidi colleagues they tend to choose sounds that have nothing to do with the rest of the instruments, effectively ruining any atmosphere was creating the piece: the choices of sound are very apt and blend well.
With "Grab Your Neck" coming more percussive guitars, keyboards excellent and always well placed, battery that has more room to romp in a 7/4 enthralling. It is still an interesting piece, which increases the curiosity about the upcoming tracks.
Third track, "Prove It to Yourself", charging and aggressive, his voice has a new expressiveness, especially in the chorus. Keyboards always excellent and well-weighted, giving a dreamlike atmosphere and sometimes distressing piece. Simone Marchetti is really well run and has a good chemistry with the accompaniment. The finish is absolutely thrilling, thanks to a more rhythmic lilting voice and a much more aggressive and powerful.
"Pages of My Life" is a ballad simply magnificent. The instrumental section looks like a river flowing in front of us, with the keyboards and guitars chasing down that well joins between the two ... Fantastic! The sounds are all globally improved; it seems to have been recorded some time after the opening pieces of the album, with a renewed desire to do. As he goes, the song becomes more and more beautiful and engaging.
"To Be Different" it is clear mold DreamTheateriano, but honestly we do not mind at all. The opening increases the chills remained from previous piece, the piano is just perfect as usual, and ... on. Super riff! Percussive, aggressive, but full of live games!! The instrumental part is a masterpiece, one of the most interesting of the entire album. Another great piece, and are more and more curious to hear how close on this debut.
"My Stairs to Freedom" is a very mature and well-made piece. Here the Fall Of Darkness play more on the Heavy Metal sound, mentioning clearly their influences, but without falling in the seedy already heard, as almost always happens. Even though it is only the most off in this piece, the level of the album is more than high.
"Fight to Go On" is an epic song in its entirety, by the sound big and aggressive.
The last piece, "The Last Step", the title more than guessed. It is literally the last step that takes them from an album "not bad" to a "great album"! Another great piece, much more mature of the two previous: engaging, intriguing and well arranged. Needless to say that the keyboards are perfect this time! The arrangement is one that jumps ear: everything is in place, well-appointed, well-worked, well ... everything!! Excellent closure for an excellent album.
Speaking of the album in general, in fact, it is one of the best debuts of the year.
The Fall Of Darkness have the numbers to go very far, with a light greater attention to detail this album would be perfect. We just have to wait for their next recording effort, and wish them nothing but the best!

Second full-length album by Greek Melodic Death Metal/Metalcore band.
Compared to their first album the band appears much more mature and wise filtering better their influences and takes the “risk” of using extensive use of electronic sounds. All the songs of the record are very common in their style which is Metalcore in the face, with killer riffs, tremendous groove, brutal and melodic vocals and lots of electronic passages. To make it more specific imagine As I Lay Dying songs with lots of electro elements. All the songs range between three and five minutes and they are very similar in style having one and only purpose. The speed never goes down the guitars are alternating with the synths and growls are contrasting clean vocals producing a terrific combination.

Raw and fast Metal between European and Bay Area style. Stripped down, simple Speed/Thrash Metal but well made and has some true musicianship behind it. Fanatic Attack are clearly influenced by early Teutonic Thrash Metal and early Kreator, Minotaur and Violent Force come to mind instantly. After recording a couple of demos and EPs it was just a matter of time before Fanatic Attack put out their debut studio album.
"Waiting To Rot" is charged with primitive aggression, roughness and an enthusiasm to Thrash Metal. The live feeling is delivered well, perhaps too well because the songs sound like they were recorded in just one take. Guitarist Põcze Ádám, who handles the lead vocals with a gritty approach, is reminiscent of younger Mille (Kreator) or Gary Markovitch (ex-Blood Feast).

This band's primary genre is Folk Metal inspired by fantasy, which is easily heard in their music. There is no doubt that Fängörn have designed their own sound, which only they master. The heroic sounds of the keyboard, mixed with a blend of clean vocals, growls and screams really provides the record with an intense and unique feel. All instruments compliment each other in a perfect way, and the atmosphere throughout the album slowly drags you out of time and space and lets you float around in the universe of Fängörn, yet to be explored. All respected musicians know how to work with their instruments, and they each get their own respectable role inside the music - which is a very important factor.
Production sounds great and suits the album atmosphere perfectly. Nothing sounds over manipulated, either way around. The album got a nice raw aspect when it comes to the vocals, which is only another nice touch to the end result.
"Where The Tales Live On" is a Folk Metal release worth to mention. Fängörn has done a superb job with this album, nothing less. After listening to the full album, you can tell that these guys have the motivation in the right place. This isn't just "another Folk Metal band" - it's Fängörn! So, strap on your battle boots, have your blade held high and get ready to join Fängörn in the the battle!!!

Dark Metal album from Far From Mind (Krasnodar)! Modern metal, pure as it can be: mostly mid-tempo, powerful and groovy. Today's quintessence of heavy metal's paramount achievements, all dressed up in a formal yet trendy outfit. The rhythms are heavy and straightforward, yet mesmerizing and shamanic. The thick pulsation of heavy guitar riffs is permeated with lavish acoustic parts. The snarls and screams are found to be perfectly symbiotic with pathetic declamations. The rhythm is based on a monolithic alloy of thick groovy bass lines and drum cannonades. The music is not half as simple as you might think after one listen; it's heavily charged with intellect, given the amount of the thought that was obviously invested into composing it. Add polyphonic structures and varied harmonies, multiply by intriguing timings and exponentiate by the masterly performance and recording - and you will get a more or less good idea of FFM's new release manifesting the band's well grounded ambitions to stay in the vanguard of the extreme music.

The last 5 years there is a very strong fan base and band base in Thrash field in the lower country of Europe, Greece. The recent years not only Greece, but also many countries – mostly USA - spawn pure and great Thrash Metal bands such as Suicidal Angels (Greece), Havok (USA), Warbringer (USA), Toxic Holocaust (USA), Violator (Brazil), Vektor (USA), Municipal Waste (USA) etc.
Thrash is not a genre dying, but rekindling. Thing is, whereas bands like Havok and Toxic Holocaust really get hands inky in their approach to the whole reviving business - borrowing from the oldies, but adding freshness with their own stuf f- Fatal Mutiny’s debut album just leaves the impression that the band know how to properly operate a music. The uniqueness and character utilized by some of the other younger bandss making Thrash Metal nowadays is simply lacking here. By the first listening to this stuff, Fatal Mutiny try to combine the complexity of Death Metal with Kreator’s aggression. And they did that successfully. Musically speaking, this is neither cheese nor bullshit, but harsh Thrash Meal with lots of razor sharp riffs, speed variation and as many, catchy and mind blowing parts as you can think. Possessed-like growls and a Dark Angel-shaped attitude!
In “Existense In Extinction”, Fatal Mutiny manage churning out sharply played, heavily riff-orientated, kind of catchy-in-your-f***in’-face Thrash madness that is both intense and melodic - and keeps its listeners’ attention relatively convincingly locked into this record for about 42 minutes the album lasts! Bang that head that doesn't bang!!

Japanese edition of the fifth full-length studio album by legendary American Progressive Metal band.
Perhaps most significant album in the Fates Warning discography, as this was the album that departed most stridently from their old sound and forged irrevocably into Progressive Metal territory.
"Perfect Symmetry" was Fates Warning's second album with singer Ray Alder, who fully participated in the writing of the album. It was also the band's first album with drummer Mark Zonder.
Their Metal influences still dominate the band's overall sound; however, Mark Zonder's unique approach to drumming add another level of depth and credibility to the music. His double bass, odd-time introduction to "Part of the Machine" is the session's defining moment, "Through Different Eyes" is a catchy song that provides insight into the band's future Pop/Metal direction, and "Static Acts" still stands as one of the most aggressive songs the band ever recorded. Ray Alder's aggressive singing has a genuine quality, which allows him to legitimately convey his anger and pain without sounding clichéd. "A World Apart" is one of the weaker songs here; however, there is some impressive odd-metered drumming from Zonder. "At Fates Hands" has become one of the band's classic songs, and for good reason. The incorporation of the violin and piano provide a refreshing change from the overall Metallic sound. While Alder and Zonder prove here that the band is capable of achieving many different moods and sounds, the instrumental section of the song reveals that both Jim Matheos and Frank Aresti are still dependent on their Metal guitar style. The most powerful song in terms of lyrics, singing, and playing is "Nothing Left to Say", which stands as the band's high-water mark.
"Nothing Left to Say" was featured on the soundtrack to the 1991 film "Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare". An instrumental version of "At Fates Hands", renamed "At Fate's Fingers", was released on the 1991 compilation album Guitar's Practicing Musicians Vol. 2.
The album was relatively successful in the charts, reaching No. 141 on the U.S. Billboard 200 (the second-highest position in the band's history) and remaining on that chart for nine weeks.

Album contains one song divided into twelve chapters and is noted for its darker mood and more Progressive style. The band’s attempt to widen its audience through a more accessible/commercial Progressive Metal sound with "Parallels" (more) and "Inside Out" (less), was unsuccessful, although both records were ranked as great or excellent, in terms of artistic success. The band’s rushed urge and the subsequent failure to combine artistic and commercial success were two evils masking a tremendous benefit. From this point further, Fates Warning could finally claim uncompromised artistic freedom without the oppressive burden of commercial success on their backs, in short without having to prove anything to anyone. And this was the case.
Matheos composed one big song, separated in 12 chapters. Following the structure of a book, those song chapters are related to a loose but clear concept floating around the body of the lyrics that revolves around the semiology of peoples’ hopes, dreams, guilt and regrets with respect to the fellow human being. What is, what has been and what could have been.
In terms of music, the band, based on its well established Progressive Metal patents, forged a dark sound inspired from the Blues but also from Industrial. In more detail, the song chapters are comprised of few, sometimes simplistic, sometimes “similar” but highly memorable and addictive rhythms and melodies. The repetition of certain of these melodies and riffs, solidifies (along with the lyrics) the album’s nature, that of a soundtrack for a movie, existing or not, little does it matter. In addition, Fates Warning leave aside the traditional Rock/Metal song structures by varying, as they see fit, the magnitude of the instrumental parts in each song chapter. Jim Matheos adapts all the band's trademark elements to the new album’s needs in a most prolific way. His riffing is staccato or flowing in equal portions, yet minimal altogether, while it blends superbly with his trademark semi electro-acoustic parts. The latter sound so simple and yet genuinely inspired, while they are mainly responsible for keeping the soundtrack element intact throughout the record. The rhythm section, comprised by Joe Vera (Armored Saint) and Mark Zonder, follows Matheos’s riffing and delivers top-notch musicianship. While Vera’s bass lines hold tight to the guitars for the most part, Mark Zonder’s drumming is equally precise, as it is intense and chaotic altogether. Whether he must sustain a slow or a furious pace, being at times “out” of the arrangements of the rest of the band, Zonder delivers his beats with tremendous vigor. As a result, he is stealing – at times – all the attention a listener has to give. Furthermore, his extravagant ability by which he realizes his off-key patterns for the cymbals is simply orgasmic.
The sound production is immense. Although the two previous Fates Warning albums had great production as well, with this, things are ten times better. The sound of the guitars is thick, the keyboards and effects have the anticipated depth, the same holds for the drums, while the bass lines are joyfully audible.
This album can be seen as the epitome of what Fates Warning do better than anyone, from “Perfect Symmetry” and forth. That is, to provide us each time with an updated Prog Metal adaptation of the diary of our lives!!

There may be four years separating "FWX" from the last Fates Warning album, "Disconnected", but the progression between the two releases is as fluid as the gap between their 1988 Metallic peak "No Exit" and 1997 Progressive Extreme "Pleasant Shade Of Gray" is wide. Both of those career highs come to mind when listening to "FWX".
"FWX" is a complex album for the heavier and more Progressive metalheads out there. Full of existential, gargantuan, and bombastic cuts. Jim Matheos' vocals are heard front and centre, dominating each mix with performative vigour.
Give Jim Matheos, Ray Alder and crew credit: there are few bands that have been around as long (twenty years for founding member Matheos, and sixteen for vocalist Alder) that produce albums as consistent or inventive as "FWX".

The first re-release of the seventh full-length studio album by legendary American Progressive Metal band.
The album continues with the commercial sound that "Parallels" began, but not as effective as a collective whole. The tracks seem to be a bit edgier and slightly harsher than those from "Parallels", and lyrically they are more introspective.
Mark Zonder's drumming approach continues to impress and Jim Matheos' guitar arrangements have grown increasingly complex; however, the band seems to be struggling for a clear direction. An effort toward commercial success is evident; however, they are also attempting to satisfy their core fan base. The standard strong structures can grow tiresome, but there are catchy melodies such as "Shelter Me" and "Pale Fire." "Island in the Stream" is a memorable ballad that works despite the use of strings. "Down to the Wire" and "Face the Fear" are aggressive songs that show the band's energy, but again suffer from Pop clichés. "Monument" is the session's best performance and has become one of the band's most requested songs (Mark Zonder is simply astonishing on this track). For all the fans who are in awe of Dream Theater's Mike Portnoy, it would be a disservice not to investigate the Progressive stylings of Zonder. The music here is bubbling just below the surface, but never quite erupts as it should. Still recommended for Zonder's performance alone.
It was the last to feature long-time members Frank Aresti and Joe DiBiase, who left after its release. Aresti would rejoin Fates Warning in 2005 and appeared on their 2013 album "Darkness In A Different Light". DiBiase would return in 2010 for a number of shows, but did not officially rejoin.
"Inside Out" is an extremely melodic album, featuring amazing musicianship and fine songwriting both in terms of music and lyrics. Having that said, no Fates Warning or Metal collection would be complete without this album, so go buy it!!

Second full-length album by Japanese Progressive Power Metal band.
Fatima Hill is the brain-child of Anjue Yamashiro, who plays "6 & 12 strings" as well as electric mandolin for this album. "Aion" features the unique vocal stylings of Diva Yuko's groaning 80's-style vibrato that manages to sound vaguely like Siouxsie Sioux.
Guitar wizard and band mastermind, Anjue Yamashiro, delivers excellent Power Metal tracks. Heavy buzzsaw riffs in "Ares Dragon" flow over the audible grumbling bass lines. A touch of synthesizer here and there does not distract. Some samples are even orchestral in their nature. The balance between keyboard and guitar has the latter winning the match in the excellent harmonized lead. Voice of Yuko is both melodic and powerful. Quiet synthesizers open up playing the main melody, and then drums kick in. After a verse and the catchiest chorus Yamashiro produces an Eastern influenced lead with lots of fast scales playing.
After two Power Metal songs, album goes more in the direction of the Japanese Folk influenced radio friendly Pop Rock style. Keyboards take on increasingly heavier load and on "Other". Poppy and radio friendly, but good Metal music.
The bass player, Hayato Asano, is an excellent musician and deserves a boatload of credit. Where he is allowed to be heard, he delivers. The production is definitely not powerful, and puts an emphasis on the radio friendliness.
Be prepared for eight new tracks of Japanese wonder children.This magnificent band sounds like Rainbow, Dio and Black Sabbath (Dio era). Their bombastic Power Metal contains some fabulous guitarwork, great song strucutres and the heavenly voice of their female singer Yuko. Enjoy their dark, sometimes Doomy Metal with lots of fast guitar breaks. These Japanese musicians are also continuing the great Japanese Metal tradition that started in the early eighties with bands like Loudness, Bow Wow, Earthshaker, X-Ray and 44 Magnum. But the music of this band comes nearer to more obscure names like Murasaki and Eastern Orbit. Fans of Japanese Metal will know exactly what its mean!
