Like most of the modern Thrash acts that are releasing albums, "Walk Through Hell" isn’t an exercise in originality as it establishes an older sound right from the get go. It’s not to the effect of being a ‘retro’ release as there seems to be a certain tendency towards groove styled riffs and a modern blend of vocals, but the heart and soul of the album does lend itself towards an older feeling.
The term ‘groove’ used above probably panicked a few of the fans, but fear not as the band is most definitely a Thrash band through and through with the fast riffing, harsher vocals, and some Punkish drum work to keep up some of the energy.
The intro of “Through Your Eyes” would dispel most detractors with the vicious riffing and this Bay Area inspired Thrash basis forms a good portion of the martial to be found on "Walk Through Hell". The band does careen into some mid tempo 90s style Groove to give some flavor to the album, but most of it never detracted from the Thrash foundations and gives the album so solid push and pull elements to the writing.
There are two distinctive features that Hidden Intent bring to the table on this debut. The first one is three tone style vocals. One portion is a more standard snarling Thrash style that slightly touches on the guttural, one portion is a low end melodic style singing not unlike that of Robb Flynn on early Machine Head records, and the final is the punctuation of some shrill soaring shrieks. The final portion is used mostly for punch, where it works in brief spurts like of the rolling “Betrayed”. The second distinctive feature of "Walk Through Hell" is the impressive bass usage. While it’s not necessarily the most technical bass pieces you’ll have heard from a band, the use of an almost melancholic tone on a few interludes and as a driving force for the rhythm section cannot be understated.
This is a wicked Thrash album with a dash of politiPunk attitude. Each time you'll listen to this your mind will keeps going back to Sacred Reich - it sounds like crossing Sacred Reich with Winterkill and adding a touch of Mekong Delta for good measure. It’s a strong blend of early 90s Groove elements and old school Thrash bursts and it comes off as a rather pleasant surprise and one that Thrashers should keep an eye on! Check it out!!

Make no comparisons, but it feels like listening to the first Slayer LP for the first time! All the false money makers are dead and gone, and the old demons are here again to rule the world!! Al Atkins founded Judas Priest in 1969, along with original bass player Bruno Stapenhill. Atkins was in Judas Priest until 1973, when he left after three years of touring with no record deal. He was replaced by Rob Halford. During his time in Judas Priest, Atkins co-wrote many classic Priest songs that were used on the first two albums including: “Victim of Changes”, “Winter”, “Never Satisfied”, “Dreamer Deceiver” and “Caviar and Meths”. Since playing with Priest, Atkins has released five solo CDs with his own band called Al Atkins. Also, he recently wrote and released an autobiography about his life in Judas Priest titled “Dawn of the Metal Gods”.
What about Holy Rage debut album, it's should appeal to fans of Judas Priest with a modern Metal edge. Opening track "Just Don't Run" showcases the grinding no nonsense Heavy Metal with Atkins at the helm, with the twin guitars courtesy of Chris Johnson and Vince ' O'Regan, Steve Mercy pounds out some monster bass lines, while the rock foundation that is Mick Hales brings it all together with a powerhouse drum beat. We then move into probably the best track on offer, the massive "Kingdom Of Hell", it’s a real ball buster of a song that wouldn't look out of place on the latest offerings by bands such as Trivium and Avenged Sevenfold. Any album featuring Atkins wouldn't be complete without that trademark Priest sound and the twin guitar licks and powerhouse backbeat are right out of the likes of "Sad Wings Of Destiny" and "Rocka Rolla", but with a modern Metal edge, and "Love At War" certainly has all these in abundance. The guitars of O'Regan and Johnson just ignite this album and are showcased perfectly on "Wasted Away", a real grinding Metal tune, together with the superb "Invincible", two really heavy pieces of old school Metal that really reinforce Atkins' Metal credentials.
One thing about the classic Priest songs was the Epic Metal pieces, who can forget the likes of "Victim Of Changes", "Genocide" and "Diamond and Rust", and the latter is what "Poison Dreams" reminds of, an all out Metal song but with a more narrative gentle edge, all in all classic Atkins' power-driven Metal at its best. Tracks like the thumping "Give Them Hell", the grinding "Redemption Road" and the excellent "Anguish" highlight the very competent axe wielding of O'Regan and Johnson. Things get really meaty on the bass and drum front with the anthemic tones of "Victory" before the album comes to a close with the very heavy "JDR Conclusion".
Quite a decent offering from Mr Atkins new project, and should appeal to fans of Judas Priest with a modern Metal edge!

Holy Water formed in the late 80s from members and sidemen of Foreigner, Doro, Saraya, Quiet Riot, Widowmaker and Prong, and they decided to put all the great tunes in a CD, calling it "The Collected Sessions". So what to expect? Tough one! This collected sessions release moves from Rock, Blues, AOR up to Melodic Hard Rock tunes. It covers almost two decades, nevertheless is full of good tunes and is more than a decent job!
Hooks and melodies galore, monster guitar riffs, a bone crushing rhythm section and just enough keyboards and harmony vocals to bridge the gap between 80's pomp and 90's power. Album includes recordings from 1982, 1989, the early 90s and today. Recently remastered by Patrick Klein (The Lizards) and packaged by artist Danny Frank, "The Collected Sessions" is a never-before-released CD chronicling Holy Water's mercurial career.
This album is mostly a Melodic Rock/Hard Rock release and it blows your mind. The first three tracks of the album are pure Melodic Hard Rock, reminding a lot of Def Leppard, Hardline and Bad Company. They are keeping a great rhythm section and fantastic keyboard melodies. Produced in the early nineties by former Foreigner keyboardist Al Greenwood, these three songs have been ranked among the classics of Melodic Rock by industry insiders. "Some Things Have To Happen" adds a sleazy thingy to the total sum. "Once Is Not Enough" is the party mood song, the way Great White have accustomed us, while "MonsteR Iff" is a rather technical track, bringing out the Satriani way of playing ("Surfing With The Alien") and is slowly moving to Bluesy lines. The last couple of tunes, are obviously from ages ago. "Crocodile Rock" (cover of Elton John's song) is the early 80s Rock like Loverboy, Journey, Foreigner while "Living For The City" moves to similar paths with a stronger Blues-Funk air and it gives you the idea that John Lord and the Marsden/Moody duo are jamming together. This release includes a version of "If I Knew Then..." recorded back in 1989, which caught the attention of Mr. Greenwoods (Foreigner) who took over the production back then.
Although you get which tracks are from which era, the production has been greatly worked and the vocals of David Knight are a huge plus to the whole effort. It is a release with mid-tempo songs with cracking melodies, and only by listening the first three tracks it will be difficult to unstuck this CD from your player!!
