The best thrash metal album of the modern era!
To call "The Thrashening" “Modern” is misleading. Its sound is firmly founded in the old school style of the classic Bay Area acts. While In Malice’s Wake’s sound undeniably fresh and vital, their thundering drums and pummeling riffage primarily bring to mind the work Testament and early Metallica; with Shaun Farrugia’s deep, layered bark bearing particular resemblance to that of Chuck Billy. However, they also make plenty of room for the heightened aggression of Slayer, the furious speed of Exodus, and Megadeth’s politically-minded lyrics.
Highlights of "The Thrashening" include the explosive album opener “Endless Possession;” the sing-along chorus of “Fuel for the Fire;” and the sublime “No Escape,” with its crunchy mid-section that brings to mind the down-tempo stomp of "Cowboys From Hell"-era Pantera. Although, there really isn’t a dull moment on the album, as each track is an absolute masterclass in Thrash Metal perfection. In Malice’s Wake cover all bases on The Thrashening and they pull off every single element flawlessly.
The true standout of "The Thrashening", though, is the production. The Ever-reliable Systematic Productions (A.K.A. Ermin Hamidovic) truly outdid themselves with this one. Even amongst their flawless catalog, "The Thrashening" stands out, with a perfectly balanced mix that sees every instrument coming through with the perfect balance of genuine emotion and crystal clarity.
"The Thrashening" is an album that is definitely going to please anyone that loves bay-area Thrash Metal and Metal in general. It is perfectly timed at a shade over 30-mins, meaning its 8 tracks are just long enough to keep the listener engaged for the whole time while not being long enough to cause you to skip tracks. A definite contender for album-of-the-year and highly recommended for anyone that likes their Metal fast and full of more hooks!!

Mixture of Death Metal with some Black Metal elements. There are melodic and groovy parts in it too. These components create an atmospheric sound structure, which reminds of the Swedish Melodic Death Metal Style, but the tracks have a certain independent touch. Fantastic acoustic passages liven up the songs, in order to go ahead with brutal hard riffing and double bass attacks. The songs sound spontaneous and honest. Vocally Wolfgang Rothbauer covers a wide range. Black Metal with Death Metal contaminations, performed with raw ferocity! But it is not only a blind beat up, there is a hazy pace dictated by Melodic and Dark moments. Desperate vocals and with various facets leads the listener along grooves worthy of the worst abyss of Giger.
Returning with their third album, Infernal Angels continue to hammer home their Immortal, or Mayhem infused straight up Black/Death Metal with vigour and a little panache. However what “Pestilentia” does lack is that variance from song to song to really make this act stand tall and proud amongst their peers. Vocalist XeS, the band's only surviving original member, has a throaty rasp, more aggressively husky than out and out guttural; something which he makes work to his advantage, while Manegarmr offers up boundless barrages of both bass and guitar. The trio is completed by drummer MiD, who can rattle the tubs with the best of them, both in terms of ferocity and precision. However, in the end none of the undoubted talent on show really makes up for what becomes a reasonably characterless set of songs, which do hit hard, but lack in staying ability.
“Pestilentia” is full of great moments from start to finish. The band deftly manages to capture the essence of classic Black Metal combined with a modern sensibility, and there isn’t a bad track here. Death growls and audible production might not be ‘kvlt,’ but this band have managed to make a strong Black Metal album their own way. There’s no synths, no horns, and no forest imagery just for the sake of it: its no-frills, bone-crushing Metal, period. And it's recommend for fans of bands like Immortal, Mayhem and Absu!!

25 years after the band’s original inception, Denmark’s Infernal Death rise from the depths to deliver their punishing debut.
Even without a detailed background on the band’s roots, its safe to say this album has been a long time coming. Each of the seven songs appeared in some form on the band’s early demos from 1992-93, and, following a 20-year hiatus, they were re-recorded for the 2014 demo “Resurrected”. As one might expect, the production of the earlier recordings was primitive at best, so “Call To War” serves just as much to do the original compositions justice as it does to kick ass and make a name for the band, which it does.
The band do a great job of maintaining their Old School street cred with furious, foot-stomping displays, but they also show an awareness of the stylistic evolutions Death Metal has seen since the band first started.
The best part about the album is its digestibility; none of the songs are more (or less) technical than they need to be, and the band are more than adept at getting their point across: this is not music for the faint of heart. Each song brims with a controlled fury that rages without regard for those trampled in their path. A well-written and satisfying effort, “Call To War” delivers on the promise Infernal Death had long held, and is a worthwhile pickup for anyone who likes Old School Death Metal!

It’s without a doubt acceptable album in means of letting the music show off its qualities. Riff-wise it’s all out Technical, and you’ll be hard up trying to spot five seconds that doesn’t have at least one riff variation or tempo change.
There are tons of tempo changes, often in a frantic stop and go action that gives the tunes a sense of desperation, in lack of a better word. If the riffing were an entity, it would be a truly tormented one, desperately trying to break out into full-blown chaos and engulf the world in flaming turmoil. As far as the drumming goes, it’s a nonstop, full on stampede of blast beats, but still with a buttload of tempo changes and varying drum patterns. And, as the drummer’s busy with blasting, the riffs on the other hand can take on an entirely different tempo. Sure, it’s fast and technical, but set in a more chugging pace instead of the frenzied one the drums take on. But during most of the breaks (one can’t call it breakdowns, seeing as it’s only half a second long most of the time) the guitar and drums meet for a short visit before it takes off again.
It winds up somewhere in between Deeds Of Flesh, Decapitation and Origin, but with a slightly harsher and more brutal approach giving it a hint of Amputated Genitals as well as Visceral Bleeding and such similar acts.
But not only the music carry those ultra-brutal tendencies, but the vocals as well. The deep, gory and grunting growls are far from the ordinary growls you’ll find in Death Metal, but that of the most brutal variant. This tight and technical execution has definitely set them down the right path!!
All the material for the entire album written during 2006 while the band was searching for a label to release the “Tribute To Apocalypse” album.
