Re-release of the debut full-length album by the Dutch Doom/Sludge Metal band.
Ortega is a four-piece Sludge/Doom band from the north of The Netherlands. Four men telling a tale of the sea, musically depicted in a broad and visual manner. Ortega's sound is best described as Doom Metal balanced with spherical soundscapes, brought together with slow and heavy riffs.
Everything flows smoothly, and sounds great. It's a mix of a variety of styles, but one they've managed to master and make their own.
It’s rare to find a truly immersive experience in music that strikes a balance between credible musical longevity and pure entertainment. "1634" – it's a Post Doom, with mildly Gothic influences and maybe some Sludgy Rock elements. The end product is a hypnotic opus with using of other musical instruments like the drifting violins and plenty of repetition feeds into the feeling of undulating waves and the endless sea. 
"1634" was originally released by band in 2010 as a concept-album, packaged in a handmade cover CD limited to 100 copies. The album is now released for the first time on CD limited to 1000 copies in a spot-varnished digipack.
Either way "1634" is all too good to miss, superb, and strongly recommend! Suggest a double dose of brandy, rum or whatever else takes your fancy, settle yourself in a quiet room with the lights turned down low and prepare for the voyage!!

After been out of Black Sabbath a couple of years, his ongoing cocaine use, and supported only by his future wife, Sharon (the daughter of Sabbath manager Don Arden), Ozzy was essentially broke, and had to start from the ground up when launching his newfound solo career. Unlike most lead singers who go solo in order to distance themselves artistically from the band they had just left, Ozzy stuck with the type of music he knew: deep, heavy, slow moving Rock with lyrical themes centered around Satan, the Occult, the presence of evil in the world and drug use. Needless to say, Osbourne with the "Blizzard Of Oz" simply picked up where the Osbourne-led Sabbath left off. Ozzy had success when he formed his now legendary solo band, and embarked on the controversial Blizzard Of Oz Tour.
On July 28th, 1981, the appearance was recorded live at Théâtre St-Denis, Montreal, Canada, and broadcast on the KROQ “King Biscuit Flower Hour” radio show. What makes this performance particularly special, is that it is one of the few professional live recordings made of Ozzy and Randy Rhoads on stage together prior to his tragic death in February 1982. The rhythm section of bassist Rudy Sarzo and drummer Tommy Aldridge was rock solid, but it was the innovative and fluid guitar work of the mighty Randy Rhoads that made this period in Osbourne's career so important. While he was alive, critics and fans were saying Rhoads was as good as Eddie Van Halen; who knows what great music he could have made had he not died so early in life.
Consisting mostly of material from his first LP, "Blizzard Of Oz", and what was to become his second album, "Diary Of A Madman", these shows clearly demonstrated the excitement Osbourne was creating with his newfound solo project. Ozzy and Sabbath fans alike will love this recording, even though he only does one song from his Sabbath days, the set-closing "Paranoid".

The thirteenth full-length studio album by legendary Heavy Metal singer.
Once again produced by Andrew Watt, this 13-track project has the most legendary guests ever on an Ozzy Osbourne release. Three tracks alone, “Patient Number 9”, “Degradation Rules”, and “One of Those Days”, feature Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton, and Tony Iommi (Black Sabbath) respectively, not to mention Mike McCready (Pearl Jam), Chad Smith (Red Hot Chili Peppers), Duff McKagan (Guns N’ Roses), Robert Trujillo (Metallica), Zakk Wylde (Ozzy’s longstanding guitarist from the late 80’s) as well as the late Taylor Hawkins among others.
The lead Single and title track, "Patient Number 9", was released along with an accompanying music video. The clip is the first-ever video to incorporate Osbourne's hand-drawn artwork. "My demons were animated and can be seen during the Jeff Beck guitar solo in the song", wrote Osbourne on Twitter. The track subsequently debuted at No. 1 on Billboard's Hot Hard Rock Songs chart, while concurrently achieving debuts of numbers 17 and 22 on Billboard's Hot Rock Songs and Hot Rock & Alternative Songs, respectively.
At the 65th Annual Grammy Awards, "Patient Number 9" received a total of four nominations, including Best Rock Album. The title track "Patient Number 9" received nominations for Best Rock Song and Best Rock Performance, and "Degradation Rules" was nominated for Best Metal Performance. The album would go on to win two Grammys, including Best Rock Album and Best Metal Performance for "Degradation Rules". This win makes it the third Grammy Award that Ozzy Osbourne and Tony Iommi won together, after previously winning two as members of Black Sabbath.
Partial proceeds from sales of this album will be donated to Ukraine/US Special Needs Orphans through Third Wave Volunteers. “In February, my son, Jack, worked with Third Wave Volunteers to evacuate special needs orphaned children out of Ukraine.  Right now, Ukraine is in desperate need of help, especially since the war started, so it feels right to work with such an important cause.” - Ozzy Osbourne.

The eighth full-length studio album by legendary Swedish Industrial Metal band.
Peter Tägtgren has long been hailed as one of the most talented Metal musicians and producers around, working together with a slew of bands, all the way from Sabaton to Children Of Bodom, all whilst playing in numerous other projects such as Hypocrisy and Lindemann. Despite this daunting schedule, and a full two decades after its inception, Peter's hobby project Pain, is back five years after its predecessor “You Only Live Twice”.
From the get-go, “Coming Home” treats us to an explosion of experimental elements, featuring facets that have as yet not been explored before. As to the production of this album, it's Peter Tägtgren's work, needing nothing further said to attest to its excellence. Granted, this release is not exactly groundbreaking or boundary defying, and may follow a pretty scattered lyrical theme, but who the hell cares? Peter has once again managed to weave together a catchy blend of styles that really shouldn't be mixed, resulting in a fresh, well-thought-out opus that is one of the crowning jewels of Pain's discography!

The debut full-length studio album by Polish Doom/Death Metal band.
The album has been recorded after many years of professional activity and a number of gigs. Although having been active since 2014, it took four more years for these brave Polish warriors to release their full length debut.
Music on the album is a verified Depressive Doom/Death Metal in veins of the golden age of the 1990s style. The original combination of depressive mood with catchy melodies and heaviness. The music creates a bleak atmosphere and offers a certain kind of melancholic beauty. Symphonic elements are always present in the background, giving the whole affair an epic character.
The maturity and quality of this record is more than impressive. The songs feature arrangements that flow and evolve as each riff closes. Each transition marks an indistinguishable final chapter in a song segment. This album is mostly composed of pieces, not standard songs. However, it is the way how those pieces have been put together that makes this album stand out from most of its peers.
The production is powerful, with the mix perfectly balancing a certain rawness and much needed clarity. The guitars are crunchy without burying the symphonic details. While the growls are deep and beastly, each word can be perfectly understood.
Rounded off by an atmospheric and mystic cover artwork made by Michal "Xaay" Loranc (known for working with the Nile, Behemoth and other bands), this album should be worth a look for any fan of dark and crawling Metal!

The second re-release of the twelfth full-length studio album by legendary British Gothic Doom/Death Metal band.
Paradise Lost's career trajectory comes virtually full circle on 2009's "Faith Divides Us – Death Unites Us", an album that sees the British Metal veterans resuming virtually the exact same accessible Gothic Doom style that characterized their most commercially and critically successful albums, in essence making it sound like the would-be successor to 1995's "Draconian Times". Of course, in the real world, that successor was 1997's "One Second", which initiated the band's often still remarkable but widely underrated voyage into a decade's worth of Electro-Goth Rock experiments before the start of its Metallic "rehabilitation" via a tentative eponymous set in 2005, and it's far more focused follow-up, "In Requiem", a couple of years later. At this point, many of the band's long-polarized fan base probably guessed what might come next, but few really believed they'd actually come face to face with that which they had longed for over so many years… Luckily for all involved, "Faith Divides Us – Death Unites Us" comes across not as a white flag of acquiescent apology for questionable career choices but as a proudly borne ensign backed up by a steady stream of skilfully realized anthems of sublime despondency ("As Horizons End," "First Light," "Last Regret," the title cut, etc.) too strong in their own right to be dismissed as self-plagiarism on any level. So are there exceptions to the musical templates established of old? Very few, verging on nonexistent, but they include Nick Holmes' reaching for unprecedented higher registers on "I Remain"; the guitar harmonics punctuating the energetic "Frailty"; the nearly Stoner Rock'n'Doom of "Universal Dream"; and the lingering electronic fireflies hovering just beyond sight (but you know they're there) on portions of the album closer, "In Truth." All of which supports the level of fan excitement surrounding "Faith Divides Us – Death Unites Us" and asks the next question: could a full-fledged devolution into the primal dirge of the band's formative Death/Doom Metal origins be next? Don't hold your breath, but stranger things have happened throughout Paradise Lost's increasingly intriguing career…

"Gothic" was the album responsible for a whole sub-genre: Gothic Doom Metal, upon its release in 1991. Creating a more melancholy & atmospheric form of Dark Extremity, with the introduction of Gregor Mackintosh’s highly distinctive & unmistakable lead guitar melodies, Paradise Lost was quickly brought to the forefront as one of the pioneering bands of the early nineties, becoming highly influential to a generation of subsequent greats.
The "Gothic" album was recorded in late 1990 - early 1991 at the renowned Academy Studios in Yorkshire; a studio responsible for classic recordings from bands such as My Dying Bride, Anathema, Cradle Of Filth, among many others.
"Gothic", though a perfectly logical step in retrospect, seemed at the time of its release like something of a departure for the band's earliest fans. This perception was largely enforced by the less deliberate, more energetic arrangements given to songs like "Dead Emotion" and "Shattered", not to mention Paradise Lost's slightly cleaner approach to guitar crunch. Further standouts such as the title track, "Eternal", and "The Painless" also made cautious use of keyboards and even female vocals, which together added atmospheric nuances to the group's ultra-depressive power chords. Gaining in confidence, young vocalist Nick Holmes' growling style was still utterly unmusical here, but at least he was making himself heard over the band's monolithic din. His lyrics were also becoming increasingly more mature, and this maturity would help push Paradise Lost ahead of its demon-obsessed competitors with each subsequent album.
In June 2005, "Gothic" was inducted into the Decibel Magazine "Hall of Fame", becoming the fifth album overall to be featured there.

The first re-release of the fourth full-length studio album by legendary British Gothic Doom Metal band.
After several years of experimentation and musical growth, Paradise Lost released their career-defining album, "Icon". On this release, they demonstrated the streamlined approach that would be present on all of their following albums and would eventually become their calling card. Gone are the Progressive tendencies showcased on their previous album, "Shades Of God". The end result is a very focused album that combines all of Paradise Lost's strengths in a concise format. The album marked a departure from the Death/Doom sound of their early work, and was the last album to feature Matthew Archer on drums. The lumbering rhythm guitars along with the steady rhythm section serve as the platform for the trade-offs between Gregor Mackintosh's signature leads and Nick Holmes's gruff vocals. The simple, yet incredibly effective, guitar work is the first indication of the band's new approach - combining their atmospheric and gloomy character with the bare-bones Heavy Metal style, that became so popular after the release of Metallica's "Black Album". The second indication would be Nick's new vocal style, which also seemed to be influenced by mid-career James Hetfield. Despite the fact that Paradise Lost were obviously paying attention to the then-current trends in Metal and implemented those characteristics in their sound, they managed to maintain a strong sense of identity and avoid becoming a pale Metallica clone. The stripped down arrangements and structures ended up highlighting the strong songwriting that is showcased throughout the album, as each haunting melody is given plenty of room to echo and grasp the listener. Although the band received some criticism for significantly toning down the heavier aspects of their sound, "Icon" created quite the buzz upon its release and elevated Paradise Lost's profile to new heights.
The band strikes a good balance between the more energetic numbers and the slower ones, while maintaining consistency throughout the entire album. Songs like "Remembrance", "Dying Freedom", "Widow", "Weeping Words" and "Poison" showcase the band's ability to convincingly execute powerful Heavy Metal tracks at a higher tempo without losing focus on the melodic and atmospheric aspects of the song. And even though their previous albums also featured some quality up-tempo material, the much improved production job and the more concise songwriting help in elevating the aforementioned tracks to new heights. Among the slower songs on the album you'll find career highlights such as "Joys of the Emptiness", "Colossal Rains" and "True Belief", which manage the impossible task of being both soul-crushingly depressing and incredibly infectious, which, in a way, sums up perfectly the essence of Paradise Lost.
The word "evolution" often comes to mind when one examines the process-driven career of Paradise Lost, and "Icon" presents a significant step in that process. It marks the point where the band went from being an exciting and innovative young group in search of its voice to a confident, fully realized force with a clear sense of identity and vision. An absolute highlight in the band's stellar discography!
In February 2018, "Icon" was inducted into the Decibel Magazine Hall of Fame, becoming the second Paradise Lost album to be featured in the Decibel Hall of Fame (alongside "Gothic"), with the magazine naming it influential to the development of the Gothic Metal subgenre.

Paradise Lost are known for being the founders of the Gothic Death/Doom Metal genre – a style fully brought into existence with their genre-defining second album, the highly influential "Gothic".
Having released two albums for the UK’s Peaceville Records and later helping to establish Peaceville as home to the finest trio of UK Doom Metal bands (alongside My Dying Bride and Anathema), Paradise Lost then signed with fellow UK label, Music For Nations, which eventually led to the band breaking through to mainstream Rock and Metal audiences as their style evolved, becoming one of the UK’s most essential Metal exports around the globe in the process.
Featuring more Death Metal influences, Paradise Lost created a Dark and Atmospheric style of Brutal Death Metal, as opposed to one based on speed. The album was recorded at Academy Studios (My Dying Bride, Anathema, Cradle Of Filth) in Yorkshire, England.
On this, their modest debut, Paradise Lost helped define the rules of Doom/Death Metal: grinding, de-tuned anthems of woe topped with Death metal-style guttural vocals. Yet, even as they were laying down the blueprint, Paradise Lost was already reaching for realms unknown to their then-amateurish abilities and latent promise. This is evident in all but the most primitive tracks here, but only the occasionally memorable riff or discreet melody contained in tracks like "Paradise Lost", "Rotting Misery", "Deadly Inner Sense", and "Breeding Fear" (which introduces a female vocalist) even hint at the band's potential. 
The tracks "Our Saviour" and "Frozen Illusion" were rerecorded in other Paradise Lost albums, "Tragic Illusion 25 (The Rarities)" and "Medusa".

This album contains a brilliant combination of mysterious keyboard harmonics and electronic sounds. The keyboards have a type of sound that will make you want to become one with the music. The guitars have very special effects that will also draw the attention of the listener. The bass also complements this very special sound of the guitars and keyboards. Paradise Lost always has lyrics with deep philosophical content. The vocals are excellent, to say the least. The third full-length studio album by legendary British Doom/Death Metal band.
"Shades Of God" integrated more melodies and subtle passages that marked the band's transitioning sound. It features the use of growling noticeable in the band's previous efforts, although shows the beginning of the transition to more clean vocals seen on the album "Icon". "Shades Of God" sound can be described as a hybrid, perhaps the album that helped define Paradise's experimental nature the most. This is an album which looked from all directions is flawless in its Progressive experimentations with the now perfected sound from the previous album "Gothic".
You can sense how this album was the most important in the whole progression of Paradise Lost. It has a feeling of many genres mix up and integrated with each other, some songs have a Progressive feel to them, while others are still with an underlined Death influence. Still, the predominant genre in this album is the hybrid of Doom/Gothic Metal - a genre that Paradise helped laid the foundation for. The sound has the brutality mixed with the monotony/minimalistic feel, that later will dominate Paradise's sound.
"Shades Of God" is one of the great experimental albums in Metal in the last 20 years!

The fourteenth full-length studio album by legendary British Gothic Doom Metal band
This album shows the band returning to their death-doom roots, mixed with elements of the gothic metal sound they are most known for. Paradise Lost proved, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that heading musically backwards, or accurately pronounced as “back to the roots”, is as worthy as solid gold. The evolving spirituality of Doom, mostly slow tempo semi Death and breaths of Gothic Metal within the album spread the awareness of much older days. The production values may not be a means of appraisal, but as far as the material goes, it came to be a long time yearning to the classic era of the band, a type of longing that fulfilled itself right here on this album. “The Plague Within” reinstated the profound growl vocals of Nick Holmes to Paradise Lost. The anguish within the Doomed melodies of the Mackintosh nature remained strong, painful, crying out, sending their shivers across the skin, creating a haze, which the band lost at some point. When it comes to the guitar riffs, it has always been simple, yet throughout “The Plague Within” it felt darker, almost escalating into a devouring beast in black. Paradise Lost have always been keeping their rhythm guitar riffs simple, palm muted chunks of death along with open chords that just felt true. And of course, what kind of tightness and scenery of damnation can be achieved without the kind of pristine rhythm section that this band has. Picture a blend of the first four albums, and you shall find their presence slowly forming on this release. It is evident that the band didn’t forget the last five years, and it also attributed to the music. In general, it is not a process anymore, it is the real thing back and alive before you, PARADISE LOST crossed back in full, and in quality, to the early 90s, somewhat filthier, murkier and condemned to forever bliss of mourning.
Paradise Lost are once again refining the chemical equation to their sonic alchemy with the kind of creative invincibility few can deliver. Blessed with stark contrasts of crushing heaviness and melancholic melodies, “The Plague Within” is a fantastic Gothic Metal opus, perfectly produced by Jaime Gomez Arellano (Ghost BC, Ulver, Cathedral) and visually rounded-off by art courtesy of Zbigniew M. Bielak (Watain, Behemoth).
