"The Eros Of Frigid Beauty" displays a change of style for Aesma Daeva.
This album isn't easy to handle. Progressive song forms, and lengthy compositions, made this an album the band promised its fans would have absolutely "No Hit Potential". "The Eros..." is a vibrant piece of art. Sinister, powerful and a great step in the evolution of the band. When the first album had the tender voice of Rebecca Cords, "The Eros..." features a whole charming ensemble of three lead singers: Adena Brumer, Sara Williamson and beautiful Melissa Ferlaak, who later became the face of the band until her departure in 2005. The three muses of John Prassas make the album most graceful.
The album continues the Medieval, ancient style of the first album. A medieval introduction bursts into a harsh and violent operatic storm of sounds and the voice of Sara Williamson will sound as a call of a siren tempting the ignorant seamen. The female supporting vocals do create the atmosphere of a wild hunt where no man can hide from the fury of crazy valkyrs. You find yourself in a chamber of a medieval building listening to the calming solo of the lute when all of a sudden you'll be torn into a hellish environment where the dark sounds of synthesizers and the most haunting female vocals govern the world of gloom.
The album features two main tracks in its core. "In My Holy Time" and the title track. Both having the length of around fifteen minutes. These are the first ones where Melissa Ferlaak sings the lead vocals with her tender and dark voice. A sad and thoughtful journey in a forest, a death and once again the haunting choirs.
"The Eros..." is a strong album with symphonic structures and use of modern, dark electronic music in some parts. This release is an important step for the band since you meet its influences on all the later albums. The band determines their style and the dark medieval path of the first album continues to future through this album. Fans of Symphonic and Atmospheric music should try this one.

Old school Raw Thrash Metal that has a lot of conviction to it execution wise.
Agggressor play mostly fast, very riff-orientated and rough Thrash Metal with amazingly high energy levels. These Mexican fellows know how to Thrash - and how to Thrash convincingly enough to be a bit more precise with all of you. A cover song done for "Painkiller"" by Judas Priest, does also sound pretty kickass. They have surely given some close ear to their cover song choice, no doubts.
As for the production on "Release Of Aggression", this is just a demo standard production but it actually is meant to be so on purpose, just to provide more of that old school feel to the album. Agggressor is a very potential Thrash Metal band, absolutely!

The album features 7 tracks at almost 51 minutes with an average track length of over 7 minutes. Old school Black Metal with Pagan influences. Classic Bathory, Emperor, Dissection and Satyricon (the first couple of albums) come to mind, but maybe a little more experimental or Symphonic.
Overall, the mood and vibe seems darker while still being a more accessible album, which is hard to pull off but has been done so successfully here. What also gives this album appeal is the right amount of knob twisting and mixing to the overall sound. There is enough grit and roughness but still having the clarity necessary to make it worth listening to. While still heavy, “Taran” opens up some new possibilities for Akashah in terms of musical direction!

A project of two very talented brothers, Akhenaten is a Black/Death Metal act similar to Melechesh, Nile or SepticFlesh. The Houseman brothers have separate duties here, with Jerred handling all of the music and S. Wyatt handling the vocals. The brothers excel heavily in creating Egyptian atmospheres, especially when there are no vocal elements involved (and there are several of these).
"Incantations Through The Gates Of Irkalla" is the sort of album that balances Atmosphere and Metal together quite brilliantly. Akhenaten feels like a good band, with a whole lot promise; fans of SepticFlesh and Melechesh will thoroughly enjoy this album!!

A machine well oiled by the musical exploits of their more well-known Scandinavian forebears, "Behold The Son Of Plagues" might not be the most unique album of its kind but the sonic hellfire contained in these ten tracks leaves little doubt as to the band’s mastery of all things black. Fierce and passionately executed, "Behold The Son Of Plagues" is the manifesto of a band so dedicated to their chosen craft they practically seem to will it into existence.
Traces of Watain, Marduk and Setherial, as well as those of slightly less celebrated names like Pestilential Shadows and Enthroned abound, and though these Greeks’ sonic lineage is clear they are ultimately a beast unto themselves. The strident chord progressions and emotive melodies naturally won me over right from the get-go (see the belligerent “Antimatter as I”) but the album’s secret weapon lies elsewhere. The production job has the distinction of being simultaneously jagged and voluminous, leaving no doubt that you’re dealing with a black metal album here but one where the finer intricacies of the music aren’t buried in mud.
The other big plus is the subtle playfulness that permeates the songs, as the band often "zigs" when you expect them to "zag". Their tendency to not let loose after periods of sustained build-up (see the title track) and for harsh vocal sections to suddenly collapse into eerie yet serene choral passages (see “To Swarm Deserted Away”) are prime examples of the off-kilter dynamics at play here. The two major highlights arrive at the tail end of the album, with the windswept melancholy of “Wine of Blasphemies” leading effortlessly into the very Deathspell Omega-like “Send Us to Swines”, with its jangly riff constructs and detached melodies bringing to mind an album like Paracletus.
All things considered, this is a stellar effort by a very promising band, something made even more impressive given that they only formed a scant two years ago. "Behold The Son Of Plagues" is recommended for those who prefer their Black Metal steeped in tradition yet playful enough to rescue it from redundancy.

Musically this album follows organically from the early works of the band and keeps to the same style. It features fast and furious drum attacks, razor-sharp guitar riffs, venomous morbid Black Metal screaming and keyboard lines which create a background against the solid guitar framework. Each song of the album is full of uncompromising brutality required to deliver a nihilistic message to the listeners in the correct way.
This album is ultimately a really good exemplar of how Symphonic Black Metal should sound if you want a good taste of what the style was originally about, rather than what it’s largely become today.
A refreshing blast from the past; it’s hard to not enjoy this release as there’s such palpable enthusiasm and passion on display here. The songs are just really enjoyable, especially if you were brought up on this kind of thing.

Allhelluja is a band that you need to know about. Fronted by the charismatic Jacob Bredahl from the Danish Death Metal act Hatesphere and including two owners of Scarlet Records (drummer/co-founder Stefano Longhi and guitarist/co-founder Massimo Gajer) Allhelluja give the Metal world a much-needed kick in the ass by cranking up the volume (and attitude) and Rockin' the f**k out. Snippets of the filthy Metal Boogie of acts like Motörhead, a pinch of Entombed locomotive stomp, and a variety of Stoner-tinged and Southern fried Metal bands make "Pain Is The Gain" one hell of a party.
The late 2006 follow-up to 2005's "Inferno Museum" debut, is an explosion of dirty, Rock 'n' Roll infused Metal. A collection of hot licks that benefit from a mix that doesn't smooth out the edges and that periodically ride the Stoner Rock edge (e.g. "The Devil, Me, Myself and I") complement a rhythm section that is taut and rugged. Even beyond the catchy songwriting and somewhere-left-of-sane lyrics is a purity of delivery, a deservedly cocky demeanor, and a smack in the mouth to all who claim to be saviors of the Rock. And it doesn't mean that "Pain is the Game" is somehow groundbreaking - it's just an honest ball-buster of an album. Bredahl struts and swaggers all over this thing, his staccato vocal attack on the rollicking "Superhero Motherfucker Superman" and "Big Money, Sweet Money" enough to get even the most stoic fan moving and breaking sh*t.
Whether it is a straight-ahead rocker like album opener "Are You Ready? (Ready for your Massacre)", the knuckle-busting charge of "The King of Pain", or the nasty soul-burn of "Soul Man" (complete with one of the album's most psychotic lyrical tirades), Allhelluja hits it and quits it, leaving everyone in the vicinity drenched in sweat and bleeding from the ears.
Far too many of these faux Retro-Rock and 'core bands are missing the point about what it means to kick ass with a purpose, a passion, and a fifth of rot gut whiskey. Here's to letting it all hang out and then collapsing in a pool of your own vomit, Allhelluja -style!

The second full-length album by the Swedish Melodic Hard Rock band.
This is the band's final album with lead vocalist Anette Olzon, before being selected by Nightwish as their lead singer in 2007.
Olzon's overall performance is quite relaxed yet very convincing; what is surprising is that her subtle vocal approach fits amazingly even with the heavier-faster riffs of the album.
Apart from Olzon, the line up of "Omega" includes Tony Rohtla (guitar), Niclas Olsson (keys), Thomas Löyskä (bass) and Fredrik Eriksson (drums).
If the sound of AOR/Melodic Rock works for you, "Alyson Avenue" will keep you hooked for quite some time. If you are a fan of "Brother Firetribe", you should definitely explore this neighboring -high quality- band! Also recommended for fans of late 80's Whitesnake (on their AOR moments)!!

The longer a band’s career is, the higher is the probability of something fails in music. There are infinite examples that can be a proof of such words in music’s history. But, there are bands that refuse to work in a way that their best can’t be presented in their works, as they want to create a line of continuous classic albums. And one of these bands is the Finnish sextet AMORPHIS, because since their debut they’re delivering excellent albums, and their latest album, “Halo”, is another masterpiece.
Their musical formula isn’t easy to explain in few words: it’s a fusion between aggressiveness and melancholy (the vocals contrasts between clean and growl can depict such thing clearly), Metal elements with lysergic/Psychedelic influences of Hard Rock and Progressive Rock from the late 60s/early 70s (elements that can be clearly heard on “Northwards” due the keyboards and solos), good technical level with good taste and catchy moments (pay attention on the rich arrangements of “The Moon” to check such aspect), always with a deeper and excellent set of landscaping musical ambience.
The set of 11 songs that are presented on “Halo” was chosen between 30 songs, and it’s the kind of album that you can put on repeat for hours, days, months, centuries, eons… you’ll never get sick of it! There is something new to discover in this record every spin because across these songs, there are so many extraordinary details that spice things up a bit, but essentially really make a difference. Whether it’s extra spicy guitar licks, subtle keyboard melodies, or the often groovy bass lines and polyrhythmic drums, this album is truly dynamic and altogether an interesting rollercoaster to the attentive listener.
