A tribute compilation album dedicated to the legendary American Hard Rock band Van Halen.
The first disc consists of solo works and duets of the band's musicians with other performers; the second disc consists entirely of cover versions of the band's songs.

They delivered their music with an unrelenting intensity and musicality that audiences devoured, launching them to superstardom and restoring Hard Rock to the forefront of the music scene.
After 30 years and 11 studio releases, four of which reached Number One, Van Halen has sold more than 56 million records in the U.S., which places them among the top 20 best-selling artists of all time.
Guitarist Eddie Van Halen redefined what the electric guitar could do, developing a blindingly fast technique with a variety of self-taught two-handed tapping, hammer-ons, pull-offs, and effects that mimicked the sounds of machines and animals. It was wildly inventive and over the top, equalled only by vocalist David Lee Roth, who brought the role of a Metal singer to near-performance art standards. Roth wasn't blessed with great technique, unlike Eddie, but he had a flair for showmanship derived as much from lounge performers as Robert Plant. The seventh full-length studio album by legendary American Hard Rock band.
The first of four albums to be recorded with lead singer Sammy Hagar (former Montrose singer), who replaced David Lee Roth. The album named after Eddie Van Halen's home studio, 5150, in turn named after a California law enforcement term for a mentally disturbed person (a reference to Section 5150 of the California Welfare and Institutions Code).
"5150" was notable for a number of love songs and ballads, a contrast of the straightforward Rock stylings of the Roth era. Despite the controversy of replacing Roth, the album was band's first to top the Billboard 200. The album hit number 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, surpassing the band's previous album, "1984", which had peaked at number 2 behind Michael Jackson's "Thriller" album, on which Eddie Van Halen made a guest appearance. It was also Hagar's first #1, as stated by him on the "Live Without A Net" concert video. Album opener, "Good Enough", can be heard in the movie "Spaceballs".
Even with a new singer fronting the band and a new proclivity for synthesized sounds, Van Halen showed themselves ready as ever to turn up the amps and let it fly. "5150" was a party on a platter, as any Van Halen record should be!

The fifth full-length studio album by legendary American Hard Rock band.
Released per the label's request that the band record an album to keep them in the public eye, "Diver Down" was recorded with producer Ted Templeman over the course of twelve days. As a result of its quick production, the album is heavy on cover versions as well as genre experiments and guitar interludes. Alongside full-length original songs, the material includes excursions into Jazz, Country Blues, Doo-wop, a Cappella and Neoclassical music, in addition to covers of mid-1960s songs – the biggest of these, reworkings of Roy Orbison's "(Oh) Pretty Woman" and Martha & The Vandellas' "Dancing in the Street", were Hit Singles.
"Diver Down" spent 65 weeks on the album chart in the United States and sold four million copies in the United States by 1998. Despite the album got commercial success, selling faster than its predecessor "Fair Warning" (1981), it was less lukewarmly received by music critics. In 2022, "Diver Down" was ranked at number three in Guitar World's list of "The 25 Greatest Rock Guitar Albums of 1982".

The second full-length studio album by legendary American Hard Rock band.
Compared to the band's debut album, "Van Halen II" sees the band stretching out their sound and developing on directions only hinted before, and is often seen as lighter and Poppier in tone; however, according to author Morgan Brown, it is evenly balanced between radio-friendly songs and "more intense, aggressive material". Eddie said: "I hate it when albums are happy-happy or heavy-heavy all the way through. We had a little bit of both on Van Halen II".
Released by Warner Bros Records on March 23, 1979, "Van Halen II" peaked at number six on the U.S. Billboard Top LPs & Tape chart and yielded hit Singles "Dance the Night Away" and "Beautiful Girls."
As of 2004, it had sold almost six million copies in the United States alone, and was certified 5× Platinum.

The first Van Halen album not to feature any cover songs, and the record where the band started to get heavier.
After two pure party albums, the inevitable had to happen: it was time for Van Halen to mature, or at least get a little serious. And so, "Women And Children First", a record where the band started to get heavier, both sonically and, to a lesser extent, thematically, changing the feel of the band ever so slightly. Where the first two records were nothing but nonstop parties, there's a bit of a dark heart beating on this record, most evident on the breakneck Metal of "Romeo Delight", but also the pair of opening party anthems, "And the Cradle Will Rock" and "Everybody Wants Some!!", which don't fly quite as high as "Dance the Night Away" or "Runnin' with the Devil" because of the tense, roiling undercurrents in Eddie's riffs, especially the thudding, circular keyboard riff propelling "And the Cradle Will Rock". The very fact that a keyboard drives this song, not a guitar, is a signal of Eddie's burgeoning ambition (which would soon become inseparable from his desire for respectability), and there are already some conflicts between this sombre musicality and David Lee Roth's irrepressible hunger for fun. Where that tension would eventually tear the band apart, here it just makes for compelling music, adding richness and depth to this half-hour blast of Rock & Roll.
This is the first Van Halen album to consist entirely of original material and there's some significant growth here in the writing, evident in the winding, cynical neo-boogie "Fools" and also in the manic "Loss of Control", which gallops by with the ferocity of Hardcore Punk. These, along with all previously mentioned songs, are the heaviest music Van Halen has made (or would ever make), but as the album rushes toward the end Diamond Dave pulls them toward his Country-Blues jive fixation with "Take Your Whiskey Home" and the all-acoustic "Could This Be Magic?" giving the album a dose of levity that is welcome if not necessarily needed. Then, before the album comes to a close, the band unleashes its first stab at a power ballad with "In a Simple Rhyme", where the band's attempts at melodic grace are undercut by their compulsion to Rock. This may not make for a full-fledged power ballad, but this tension between the two extremes, by their increasing song craft and their unhinged Rock & Roll, makes for dynamic music, and captures all the contrasting glories of the album in one song.
Kerrang! Magazine listed the album at number 30 among the "100 Greatest Heavy Metal Albums of All Time", and Rolling Stone Magazine listed the album at number 36 in their list of "The 100 Greatest Metal Albums of All Time".

The seventh full-length studio album by German Progressive Metal band.
Superb progressive Metallers Vanden Plas got together with Germany's bestselling author Wolfgang Holbein (who is a big fan of the band) to create a Rock Opera based on his series of "Chronicle Of The Netherworld" novels. Together, they created nineteen songs and entitled it "Blutnacht" (Bloodnight). Starring Vanden Plas vocalist Andy Kuntz in the lead role and with the rest of the band in the orchestra pit they played 25 sold-out performances in Germany throughout the 2012/2013 seasons to huge critical acclaim. With Holbein's agreement, Vanden Plas then decided to adapt the opera into the basis of their next studio release with Kuntz taking on all roles as 'Storyteller' and with the songs becoming heavier to suit the band’s fan base and an album format. “Chronicles Of The Immortals: Netherworld (Path One)” is the result and contains the first 10 songs of the story with the conclusion “Chronicles Of The Immortals: Netherworld II” released in 2015.
This album is mind-blowing and the work that has gone into this and the theater production absolutely incredible. Huge melody, emotion and power along with superb songwriting and ability make it the best album they have released. 
Central to the whole album is Andy Kuntz's incredible vocal performance, which is a true master class of singing. Musically, "(Path One)" also excels. Guitarist Stephen Lill is wonderful throughout and Keyboard Maestro Günter Werno plays with a passion bordering on the heart wrenching. Bassist Torsten Reichert and drummer Andrea Lill are also superb; the whole band effortlessly transferring the live songs to a studio format. What helps is that Vanden Plas have had the same lineup from day one, and they seem almost telepathically connected.
Not all concept albums are easy to follow but "(Path One)" bucks that trend. Lyrics are beautiful and, right from the start, you know exactly who is who and what is happening. Production is crystal clear and sounds huge. The whole thing is packaged with incredible artwork that also sets the scene for the story.
Without doubts, one of the best albums of 2014!

The Symphonic Metal Powerhouse are back with sophomore release – and you simply will not hear a better Power Metal album that year!
It takes true talent to deliver a consistent Symphonic Power Metal album without dipping into trite tendencies or mawkish sentimentality, but Almanac have managed it with ease, and considering the talent at work here, that should come as no surprise.
Guitar-god Victor Smolski’s reputation speaks for itself and his ridiculously high standards are maintained throughout "Kingslayer". Seemingly unleashed from previous tethers, his work here borders on genius and these compositions astonish while still hitting you square in the gut with supreme Metal heaviness. Each track has more melodies than you’d think you can handle, more moments of pure theatricality than thought possible (without once stepping over into full ‘cheese’ territory) and, most importantly, at least one massive, ground-shaking riff that’ll make you want to start a mosh with your nearest and dearest.
It’s not just Victor who shines of course. Much should be said about the outstanding vocals on "Kingslayer" and while enlisting three (count ’em, three!) vocalists in the shape of Andy B. Franck (Brainstorm, ex-Ivanhoe), David Readman (Pink Cream 69) and Jeannette Marchewka (Lingua Mortis Orchestra) may suggest overkill, the layering and meticulous juxtapositioning of all 3 voices works seamlessly throughout, aiding the storytelling and providing a strong sense of grandeur befitting the sub-genre.
Unsurprisingly, there’s a concept to "Kingslayer", involving real life historical figures, kings and queens, etc. 
This album slays, and you don’t have to be a fan of Rage, Helloween or any other Power Metal band, who’ve attempted and, occasionally, managed to deliver Power Metal perfection. You just need to love Metal of the purest kind, and with "Kingslayer", Almanac have quite probably delivered your Metal album of the year! Bombastic, effervescent and utterly-utterly brilliant!!

Formed by Victor Smolski after his departure from Rage, Almanac is a continuation of his work with the Lingua Mortis Orchestra.
Victor Smolski's style has been well established throughout his years with German Metallers Rage. Now he has felt it necessary to bring his stylings to the world of Symphonic Power Metal - under the moniker of Almanac. However, in actuality, "Tsar" ends up sounding more like the quirky, heavy riffs of Rage, with a few strings added to beef up the melodies of the riffs. Although this was recorded with a real orchestra - expect nothing like Rhapsody or Fairyland. What you can expect is some damn fine, riff-heavy, Progressively-tinged Power Metal done the way only a German can!
Fans of standard Power Metal fare will find plenty to enjoy beyond the crushing riffs of Smolski. There are points were the orchestra add a real stylistic flair - giving us an extra dimension to aurally examine. The melodic choruses are irresistible. There really is no stinker here, nothing reigns in the energy, and nothing treats the listener like a dullard. These are all smart, vibrant, enjoyable anthems for real music-lovers.
The production quality is top-notch. Every instrument, from the highest string right down to the rumbling bass guitar is allowed a moment to breathe. The bass becomes especially prominent in the sparse verses, where its tonic note brings an aura of true menace. 
"Tsar" is indeed a splendid record. Even if Symphonic Power Metal is the section of the record store that you're most unfamiliar with, "Tsar" will inspire you to get acquainted with it! Yet even beyond genre criteria, Almanac is a band that finds strength in the most organic of ingredients and churns them into pure Metal!!
