The fourth full-length studio album by cult British Hard Rock/Heavy Metal band.
In the wake of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal explosion of the early '80s, several bands attempted to blend in with the movement even though they formed long after such bands as Iron Maiden and Def Leppard began to enjoy success, one such band being a Hard Rockin' trio of brothers, the Mama's Boys. The trio hailed from Northern Ireland and consisted of Pat McManus (guitar, vocals), John McManus (bass), and Tommy McManus (drums). Later in their career they became a four-piece, adding Rick Chase on vocals in 1986, who in turn was replaced by Keith Murrell in 1987 due to Rick's ill health. Keith was later replaced with Connor McKeon in 1989 who was subsequently replaced with Mike Wilson in 1990. 
Mama's Boys recorded their first self-funded album, "Official Album" (re-released in 1981 as "Official Bootleg") in 1980 in only four hours. In 1981, they were invited to support Hawkwind on their UK tour. They recorded and self-financed their second album, entitled "Plug It In", in 1982, and achieved a Hit Single in Ireland with the most Pop-oriented song on the album, "Needle in the Groove". The third album, "Turn It Up", was released in 1983. The same year they toured with Thin Lizzy on that band's farewell tour, played at the Reading Rock Festival and signed a worldwide record deal with Jive Records.
Their fourth album, self-titled "Mama’s Boys", was their first album released on Jive, and contained some songs previously released on early albums but completely re-recorded with a few new songs. One of the new songs, a cover of Slade's "Mama Weer All Crazee Now", was released as a Single and reached number 54 in the American charts. The video for the song got a lot of airplay on MTV and helped the band to become known in the US, which they toured in 1984. Coincidentally, the American Heavy Metal band Quiet Riot also released their cover version of the song at the same time as Mama's Boys, but Quiet Riot's version gained more airplay.
1985's "Power And Passion" album broke into the Billboard top 100 in the US and the band toured in the US, Europe, and Japan. During the European leg of the tour, Tommy had a relapse of leukaemia which he had been treated for as a child and a replacement drummer Jimmy DeGrasso was brought in to complete the tour. The recovering Tommy re-joined the tour in Ireland, but had to be rushed back to hospital after another relapse.
In 1987, former Airrace vocalist Keith Murrell was brought in after Rick Chase started having trouble with his vocal cords, and they recorded the album "Growing Up The Hard Way". Murrell left in 1988 to join Cliff Richard as a backing singer. Connor McKeon replaced Keith in 1989, but this was short-lived, and he was replaced by Mike Wilson.
In 1990, with a new vocalist, Mike Wilson, and under new management, Mama's Boys moved their base to the UK. The live album, "Live Tonite", was released in 1991 and the band toured extensively in Europe. In 1992, the band released "Relativity" album. While on tour in Italy in 1993, Tommy became ill again and the tour had to be cancelled.
In 1994, Tommy McManus passed away after a long battle with leukaemia. Tommy underwent a bone marrow transplant, but he did not survive. His brothers were devastated, and Mama's Boys did not continue.
On the first anniversary of Tommy's death, John composed a traditional lament on the low whistle for his brother, and this led to himself and Pat revisiting their traditional Irish music roots and forming a Celtic/New Age band called Celtus.
In 2003, Pat McManus joined with Irish Rock band Indian for two albums and live shows. After this he joined the Painkillers for a short while, and then formed "Pat McManus and High Voltage" which in 2007 became the Pat McManus Band (with Marty McDermott on bass and Paul Faloon on drums). The Pat McManus Band released "Tattooed In Blue" in 2018, and an acoustic guitar based album called "Rewind" in 2019, alongside a European tour.

Debut full-length album by German Melodic Gothic Metal band.
Lutz de Putter founded Mandrake in 1996. The band recorded their first demo “Mandragora Officialis” in 1997. Debut album “Forever” was recorded at Soundlodge Productions in 1998, and shows the harder side of Mandrake more focused on male vocals and growls. Album was produced with the help of some guest musicians. As a self-produced effort, the overall emphasis reaches for a clear and concise tone, which gives the impression of a professionally mixed recording of Doom-laddened riffs accented by keyboards and occasional violin melodies. Influences pertaining to their compositions seem to point towards My Dying Bride, Paradise Lost and Theatre Of Tragedy, with male growling providing most of the vocals while feathery female vocals are interspersed within a number of tracks and are featured almost exclusively on two of them.
All in all this is the great Melodic Gothic/Doom Metal album and it’s musthave for your collection!!

The debut full-length studio album by German Progressive Speed/Thrash Metal band.
These guys have a sound that is close to typical in terms of their own genre definition. Sci-Fi Thrash along with the Progressive Speed/Thrash moniker does suit them to a tee. They are not overly ‘Speed’ or overly ‘Thrash’. They do a fantastic job at blending the two styles, adding also a bit of Melodic Death Metal into their own sound, which is a bit rare these days.
The twin guitar attack here is also done very well. The songs themselves all have their own identity. The album is very well structure, that you do not get bored at any moment throughout the disc. Each track has its own life and sound, which makes this a great listen.
Good stuff guys! This is one that will appeal to fans of Vektor, Sacral Rage, Vexovoid and the likes there of. Give them a listen!! They are sure to please!!

The long anticipated album of Wichita's Epic Metal gods! And nothing has really changed. Their original, odd style still is the same in 2001. The production is very rough and oozes with the flair of the eighties, which clearly is intentional.
What we have here now is an Epic Metal-fireworks-display of the highest order as we may witness only all too seldom. Manilla Road are true masters of capturing the listener. Everything is very variable and excels in extensive instrumental passages. The vocals of Mark Shelton still have more charisma as most young singers of today's up-and-coming acts together! In some parts his voice is really harsh and sometimes even reaches Death Metal! Manilla Road has managed to present us with a truly outstanding comeback!
"Atlantis Rising" wasn't just Manilla Road's stellar comeback following a ten-year retirement; it was one of the finest albums of the cult Heavy Metal heroes' long career. Not since mid-'80s triumphs like "Crystal Logic", "Open The Gates" and "The Deluge" had vocalist and guitarist extraordinaire Mark Shelton made his often inimitable brand of fantasy Metal sound as vibrant, fresh, and, of course, epic!

Second full-length from this Finnish act, 'Deadlock' sees Manitou moving one step away from their more proggy early material, into a more solid and straightforward traditional metal area. There are still some lunatic prog elements though, and overall 'Deadlock' sees Manitou making one more confident step toward the big leagues. Finland continues to dominate the global metal evolution and Manitou are helping lead the way.

Re-release of the debut full-length album by the Finnish Heavy/Progressive Metal band.
These guys almost sound like Prog-Metal masters already, with their first official release. Well, it isn't entirely Progressive. Some parts sound a bit more melodic – in fact, most of the album is filled with melodies.
The riffs are very heavy and Progressive, and of course, they always have a little melodic floating around. Some keyboard effects are added in from time to time to add a little futuristic/sci-fi feel, but they never take over the music whatsoever. This album focuses on Progressive and melodic riffs, and nothing else. Some riffs are also catchy as f**k. Just listen to the intro (or the whole song, whatever) of "Garden of Fallen Kings".
This is great stuff, and no one can ignore it!!

What does "Battle Hymns" mean to us this day? Well, it shows a band accused of excess at their leanest, playing with such heart and such sonic thunder, and with an urgency that would be severely lessened for most of their career. Manowar's status as the laughing stock of Metal is a pretty good example of just how Metal is misunderstood by the masses, and indeed, by the fans themselves... Manowar deserve celebration far more so then mockery, definitely. No big deal though; if music critics would rather listen to pop offered by Motown Records then this then clearly they've got some sort of serious mental illness and there's nothing we can do. Needless to say you seriously need this album if you like good music!

On their anthemic mission statement, "Kings Of Metal", Manowar once again proclaim their Metal superiority thusly: "Other bands play, Manowar kills"!
The twin sentiments of the band's Metal mastery and the majesty of medieval heroism in battle are doggedly repeated on their sixth full-length release. There aren't many surprises on the disc, with the possible exception of bassist Joey DeMaio's blinding 64th-note bass playing on a reworking of Russian classicist Rimsky-Korsakov's "Flight of the Bumblebee" entitled "Sting of the Bumblebee". Considered by some fans to be a classic of its own, the 1988 release might have a many ballads for Power Metal enthusiasts, brushing up on the genre's history. Besides their refreshingly totalistic loyalty to form, Manowar's most admirable trait is their prodigious Metal musicianship, but with so much slow, balladic material, "Kings of Metal" makes little use of the band's fundamental musical strengths.
The album was the last to feature guitarist and founding member Ross "The Boss" Friedman, who later went on to rejoin punk band The Dictators. Drummer Scott Columbus left the band after this album as well, but rejoined for 1996's “Louder Than Hell” and remained with the band until 2008.
“Kings Of Metal” is the most popular album in the history of the Manowar, which entered the list of "200 Best Rock Albums of All Time".

"Louder Than Hell" is fairly typical of Manowar thematically and musically. After hearing this one, it's very clear that Manowar doesn't want to change anything of their classic and "true" sound. They will keep playing loud and Epic Heavy Metal, till the day of their death. And it's great to know that. Manowar is stuck in the sound of the "Kings Of Metal" album, with heavy anthems against false Metal and Epic Power ballads, wich always remember to that beautiful song, "Heart of Steel". Yes, here's nothing new, the same old Manowar, but the band is so great that it doesn't matter, although Manowar is releasing albums just like an excuse to play new songs live... they still are the same kickassing band!!
It is the first album to feature guitarist Karl Logan, as well as the return of drummer Scott Columbus (R.I.P.).
Cover art was done by Ken Kelly. The songs "Brothers of Metal", "Courage" and "Number One" were demoed and played live by the band already in 1986, 10 years before their official album release.
