The fourth full-length album by Melodic Death Metal band from Bosnia and Herzegovina.
An interesting album from Eastern European band. Branded as Melodic Death Metal, this outfit is not really doing anything like what you’d expect to hear from that description. This is definably Extreme Metal, but much more sprawling and Progressive than Melodeath normally gets. This actually reminds more than a bit of Enslaved’s more recent works. Some of the riffing is good, and the intricate songwriting sometimes manages to be gripping, but like all Proggy bands, this outfit cannot resist throwing in complexity just for the sake of it, too often strangling their momentum for no good reason and chopping the songs up into parts that don’t hold together as well as they could.
Still, a band with a distinct sound and undeniable talent!

The fourth full-length album by Swedish Heavy Metal band.
Jonas Ηansson, passionate Swedish vocalist/guitarist, has formed Silver Mountain in 1978 with compatriot Per Stadin, initially focusing on instrumental compositions of - the completely unknown by that time - Neoclassical Heavy tunes, clearly influenced by the mighty Rainbow aura. Jonas demonstrated a clearly keen-on-Blackmore style of baroque solos & melodies, transforming into a hard-as-hell riff work at faster tunes. Yet, it was not until 1982 - when the Johansson Bros joined the band (then playing in a Jazz/Fusion band called Slem) - that Silver Mountain started taking it more seriously (only a 7-inch single had been released, in 1979). Thus, the track "She Needs" was featured in the 1982 GS Music compilation "Skansk Rock". Still, it was a year later when the band's debut "Shakin' Brains" (1983) was released to leave everyone (fans & critics) completely astonished!
Before the deeds of Mr. Malmsteen (who was featured in session demos rehearsing with the band in that era, before even starting his solo career) Silver Mountain presented all the elements that the vast majority of fans now adore in bands from Malmsteen's Rising Force to Hammerfall and then to Stratovarius (in general, half of the Mid-Northern European bands). Baroque-ish yet still Heavy Power Metal, with a NWOBHM sound and Jonas' harsh epic vocal style that - judging from today's turn - contributed to (if not created) what we now call Neoclassical Power Metal.
Unfortunately, Anders & Jens left the band in 1984, joining the newly - then - formed Yngwie Malmsteen camp. The rest of their bio is well known. As for Silver Mountain, the band released two more studio albums (clearly on a lower level than the 1983 opus; still though very good) with a live recording in between - "Universe" (1985), "Live In Japan" (1986) and "Roses & Champagne" (1988) - and split. Hansson worked on various projects (Jonas Hansson Band, Legacy etc) and Stadin formed Snake Charmer (with the Johansson Bros, featuring talented vocalists like Pete Sandberg or Goran Edman), also participating in the Billionaires Boys Club project along with the famous Marc Boals, Jorg Fischer (ex-Accept) and Anders Johansson. Still, many rumors were circulating regarding a reunion of the classic Silver Mountain lineup, raising certain expectations about what this magnificent quartet would come out with in the 21st century. And so it happened! The result was "Breakin' Chains"!!
This release depicts what Silver Mountain stood for in the days of their glory. Without being any come-back or reunion album, "Breakin' Chains" features a set of re-recorded rarities (the infamous 1978 single, demo versions, session cuts, etc.) from the early 80's era, previously unavailable elsewhere. The band's performance is in high level and the whole scenario is smoking memories - the band's bio speaks for itself.
Recorded in Sweden, New York and Los Angeles, "Breakin' Chains" is proper for both the old loyal fans that memorize the unique songs Silver Mountain created 20 years ago, and the Metal fans that were never familiar with the band's legend and now have the great opportunity to clear out who contributed a lot to the definition of European Metal!!!

The follow-up to the hugely successful "I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got" and her contribution to the 1990 Cole Porter tribute / AIDS benefit album "Red Hot + Blue", with a cover of "You Do Something to Me", Sinéad decided to cover some more standards and do something completely different for her third record. "Am I Not Your Girl?" is a collection of covers of mostly Jazz standards, which O'Connor describes as "the songs I grew up listening to [and] that made me want to be a singer".
The album title comes from the song "Success Has Made a Failure of Our Home". The album is dedicated to the people of New York City and especially the homeless, whom O'Connor met at St. Mark's Place.
The album did not gain much critical acclaim, perhaps because O'Connor had become a major artist in the modern pop genre due to her previous album, "I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got", and this album was composed of songs written from 1936 to 1978. This, coupled with the Garden State Arts Center controversy and an introduction on the album in which she mentions sexual abuse of children in the Catholic Church, addiction, emotional abuse, and led to O'Connor losing much of the commercial momentum her career had built up until then.
The album's promotion was marked by a controversial appearance on Saturday Night Live, where O'Connor tore up a photo of Pope John Paul II. O'Connor's action led into a public and media frenzy. NBC received more than 500 calls on Sunday, and 400 more on Monday, with all but seven criticizing O'Connor; the network received 4,400 calls in total. NBC did not edit the performance out of the West Coast tape-delayed broadcast that night. As of 2016, despite the now well documented thousands of child sex abuse cases proving O'Connor's accusation, NBC still declines to rebroadcast the sequence, with reruns of the episode using footage from the dress rehearsal.

The second full-length studio album by legendary Irish Alternative/Folk Pop Rock singer.
"I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got" became Sinéad O'Connor's popular breakthrough on the strength of the stunning Prince cover "Nothing Compares 2 U", which topped the pop charts for a month. But even its remarkable intimacy wasn't adequate preparation for the harrowing confessionals that composed the majority of the album. Informed by her stormy relationship with drummer John Reynolds, who fathered O'Connor's first child before the couple broke up, "I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got" lays the singer's psyche startlingly and sometimes uncomfortably bare. The songs mostly address relationships with parents, children, and (especially) lovers, through which O'Connor weaves a stubborn refusal to be defined by anyone but herself. In fact, the album is almost too personal and cathartic to draw the listener in close, since O'Connor projects such turmoil and offers such specific detail.
The first song on the album, "Feel So Different", starts with "The Serenity Prayer" by Reinhold Niebuhr. The album also includes O'Connor's rendition of "I Am Stretched on Your Grave", an anonymous 17th century poem that was written in Irish, translated into English by Frank O'Connor, and composed by musician Philip King in 1979. O'Connor's sings her version over the oft-sampled loop of "Funky Drummer" by James Brown.
The album contains O'Connor's version of the Prince song "Nothing Compares 2 U", which was released as a Single and was one of the best-selling Singles in the world in 1990, topping the charts in many countries, including the United States, United Kingdom and Canada. This rendition of the Prince song reflected on O'Connor's mother, who had lost her life in an auto accident five years earlier. The single "Emperor's New Clothes" found moderate success, although it did top the Modern Rock Tracks chart in the US.
The album was nominated for four Grammy Awards in 1991, including "Record of the Year", "Best Female Pop Vocal Performance", and "Best Music Video, Short Form" for "Nothing Compares 2 U", winning the award for "Best Alternative Music Performance". However, O'Connor refused to accept the nominations and award.
In 2012, "I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got" was ranked number 408 on Rolling Stone Magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time. The album was ranked number 457 on the 2020 edition of the list.

Sinéad O'Connor's first album of original material since her breakthrough, "I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got", is nearly as confused as her big-band album, "Am I Not Your Girl?". 
O'Connor explores the uncharted depths of "the real loveless family traumas", which mainstream, predominantly male, Rock music tends to avoid, and her journey is made more intense by her identity as both a mother and a daughter.
O'Connor painted the cover art herself, which was inspired by a rebirthing session she experienced, and her song "All Babies".
Listening to the album can be "unnerving", as O'Connor "can still sing like an angel, but she also sometimes writes lyrics like an emotional dyslexic.

Ninth full-length album by the legendary Dutch Brutal Death Metal band.
This is yet another example of why the band has become synonymous with reliability, an unending titan of forceful butchery that is almost always guaranteed to deliver a reasonable and focused effort, even though what seems to be an ever shifting roster of musicians (no change here from the previous full-length "The Silent Howling" in 2008, but after recording this they've already hired on a new bass player in Creepmime's Joost Van der Graaf). "Legacy of Ashes" features all of the hallmark blasting and punching brutality they've celebrated from their early 90s classics, but with a notable element of Thrashing abandon in the riffs that dominated efforts like 1998's "Aggressive Measures". You'll get a good, sore neck from this effort, more so than its direct predecessor at least. A few of their albums have lapsed into monotony, but "Legacy Of Ashes" feels slightly more distinct. No punches are pulled here, it's just tough as nails Death Metal without indulgent virtuosic tendencies or pedestrian wanking, and likely worth hearing if you're a fan of the band's last decade of material, or their related projects like Infinited Hate, Houwitser or Supreme Pain!
This limited edition CD contains four bonus tracks taken from the “Afterburner” preproduction demos!!

Tradition in a new dimension! A new album for this cult band and a new success!! Sinner have been inspiring Melodic Rock and Metal fans alike for years. Deep Purple vocalist, Ian Gillan, personally thanked the guys after the tour and termed them "Best Special Guests of the Nineties". 
In the line with their precedent release, "The Nature Of Evil", "The End Of Sanctuary" plants the flag of German domination over this kind of music. Before recording “The End Of Sanctuary”, the band had to be reformed as guitar player Tom Naumann was forced to leave due to health problems and drummer Fritz Randow has been touring with Saxon for some time. Sinner mastered the situation with impressive ease by recruiting ex-Thunderhead guitar beast Henry Wolter and the world-class Helloween drummer Uli Kusch who are both more than mere replacements as is clearly mirrored in the new recordings. “The End Of Sanctuary”, produced by Mat Sinner in the House Of Music Studios, shines in its structural versatility and the musical performance of the individual musicians.
Mat Sinner's voice getting better and better on each new release. Guitars riffs are definitely strong point of this album and added melodic touch.
Sinner’s music might became heavier that decade, especially with the closeness to Sinner’s Primal Fear that seemed charged and on the roll, however, the Rock N’ Roll edge that served him in the 80’s remained true and adamant to the bone! These kinds of records of true dedication inspire!!

The fourth compilation album by legendary German Heavy/Power Metal band.
The very best plus unreleased tracks!
There’s no denying that Sinner have been at the top of the European Metal scene for years now. Even during the times where Grunge and Crossover were predominant on the market, Sinner released one superb album after the other and from the mid-nineties the sinners started getting really heavy. “Bottom Line”, “Judgement Day” and the masterpiece from 1998, “The Nature Of Evil”, were the the heaviest and the best releases from Mat Sinner & Co. to date. “The Nature Of Evil” entered the German Top 100 sales charts (No. 68) and became the worldwide most successful album in the bands career. These releases are the basis of the “The Second Decade”.
However, Mat Sinner & Co. didn’t just want to release a Best Of album without offering their fans something special. Therefore, fans will find, along with “The Second Decade”, “The Truth Is Out There” (with the original Sinner drummer, Bernie van der Graaf) and an acoustic version of the Sinner classic, "Respect" (recorded in Japan), three previously unreleased tracks on this album. The absolute highlight is the cover version of the Accept classic, “Balls To The Wall”, with its typical Sinner groove and previously only available on the Accept tribute album. The fact that "Streets Of Sin (Judgement Day)", an almost forgotten jewel, made its way on to this album proves that this release is truly a Best Of. And not a Greatest Hits album.
Mat Sinner (Vocals & Bass), Alex Beyroth & Tom Naumann (Guitars), Frank Rössler (Keyboards) and Fritz Randow (Drums) - this was the most stabil line up to date in the bands career and this compilation is a super way of looking back on the work of these 5 extraordinary musicians because in the year 2000 there will be changes made in the Sinner ranks. As with Primal Fear, Tom Naumann is now no longer by Sinner and has been replaced by ex-Thunderhead guitar god, Henry Wolter, who already shows what he’s made of on “The Second Decade” where he appears as guest musician on “When Silence Falls”, “The Biggest Lie” and as joint composer of the classic “Rage Of A Hurricane”.
The title of "The Second Decade" is a little misleading: Sinner had only existed for 15 years when this was released, and the compilation covers the band's entire career, not just a decade of it.
All in all, “The Second Decade” is a superb cross section of the last years and whets the appetite for the next album. The perfect starting point for newcomers and European Power Metal obsessives!!

The second full-length studio album by cult Norwegian Symphonic Gothic Doom Metal band.
The album follows in the same vein as the previous, "At Sixes And Sevens", but includes a new female vocalist, Henriette Bordvik. From this album, Sirenia has been presented as a 4-piece band, with Morten Veland as the only permanent member.
Like its predecessor album, the musical style in "An Elixir For Existence" corresponds to the more classic Sirenia's Gothic Metal of their origins, with some elements of Symphonic Death/Doom and even Black Metal.
Numerous of the songs are concerned with mental conditions, be it depression ("Voices Within"), drug use ("Euphoria") or thoughts of suicide ("The Fall Within"); of course, the meanings of all of these songs are subject to further conjecture.
This album takes everything right in the Gothic Metal genre, including soothing female vocals, harsh vocals that always command you to pay absolute attention, bombastic choirs and compiles them here.
While providing very enjoyable music on its on, this is simply more than an album. "An Elixir For Existence" takes you on a journey through the darkest and most melancholy parts of the human mind and spirit, brightening your outlook on life...

The debut full-length studio album by cult Norwegian Symphonic Gothic Death/Doom Metal band.
New Band of Morten Veland (ex-Tristania). On this release, he is moving on along the path he was walking with Tristania's "Beyond The Veil". This is Sirenia's only album featuring the vocals of French singer Fabienne Gondamin.
Sirenia's debut album is a continuation of Veland's compositional work with Tristania, a band that he had left only two years before, so it corresponds to the most classical Gothic/Symphonic Metal style of his catalogue. The band made use of contrasting vocals – male bass vocals (making some use of clean vocals and Death grunts) and female whispering vocals, with interludes of a symphonic choir. As is the usual in all Sirenia albums, Veland is the sole author of all the tracks, to which he gave a very introspective and personal character. Also, he played most of the instruments that were used.
Lyrically, it has dark and long songs, with gothic and human existence themes (especially related to death and mental decline), in a complex structure of very similar metre and tempo among all, except the last one. It is something probable that the album title and its main track reflected Morten Veland's mood in that time. Similarly, numerous of the songs on this album and the next one of Sirenia refer to the disturbed mental conditions, a topic in which its writer was particularly interested. "At sixes and sevens" is an English idiom very common in the United Kingdom. Used to describe a condition of confusion or disarray. The similar phrase "to set the world on six and seven", used by Geoffrey Chaucer, seems -in its context-, to mean "to hazard the world" or "to risk one's life".
The woman on the cover is a Norwegian model, picked by the designer to represent a Siren.
The Orchestral Gothic Metal of Morten Veland's Sirenia is more than ambitious on the band's debut, "At Sixes And Sevens" - it's almost cosmic in scope and epic by any standard. A cadre of operatic vocalists and classical musicians wrap Veland's songs in a composite sheen that's rare even within a genre known for grand soundscapes. When highlights like the anthemic "Shadow of Your Own Self" get into gear, "At Sixes And Sevens" rolls like thunder and flows like the bitter tears of Veland's less-accomplished Goth/Doom colleagues!
