The first re-release of the seventh full-length studio album by cult Czech Epic Heavy/Black Metal band.
From their beginnings as a very first-wave Black Metal act to their mutation into something Dark, Epic, and beyond easy categorization, this is a proper legendary act that carved their own dark path and basically founded the Czech Black Metal scene along with Master's Hammer, and it's impossible to understand the region's Metal scene without knowing something about them. Despite all the prestige and historical significance, most fans would agree that the band started to sort of fall apart, with longtime guitarist Blackhosh leaving after the divisive "Madness Of The Grave" and the band sort of falling victim to Big Boss' weirder musical ideas without anyone to help refine them into anything that wasn't either derivative of past glories or just indescribably baffling and awful. What's also agreed upon is that this album was the last release of their golden age, and the fact that, like most of the albums that came before it, it's an unparalleled masterwork.
Trying to describe Root to the uninitiated is like describing the true nature of hell to the godless, as their black metal base is so primordial and their later epic leanings so unique to them that the only meaningful way to discuss their albums is in comparison to one another. With that in mind, "Black Seal" is easily their darkest and most menacing work, with the direct numbers being the heaviest they've done and the more esoteric and mystical songs being the most absorbing and powerful to date. The former is made obvious with the album opener "Festival of Destruction", an incendiary track that stands as the best song they ever wrote with crushing riffs, Big Boss' powerful operatic bass, and a layered, hypnotic chorus unlike anything they'd ever done up to that point. The latter comes immediately after with the magical, almost waltz-like "The Incantation of Thessalonian Women", which displays odd, moody arrangements and a mix of soft croons with powerful blackened roars. To describe any other songs would be to rob this work of the surprises it has in every corner, but know that despite the final track being only six minutes of music and the remaining thirteen being dedicated to repeating the chorus while gradually pushing it back in the mix until it ends with silence, there's not a moment on here that isn't startling, haunting, and masterful to various extents.
As a unit, the band themselves has ever been tighter and more inspired. Blackhosh churns out his very best work with riffs that rise, blaze, and spit like the flames of hell itself and leads that wail and soar over it all like the cries of the eternally damned. Igor's bass work has never been heavier than it has here, and Evil's drumming gives this momentum and aggression it otherwise would not have had. Of course, when discussing Root, you have to talk about the all-powerful voice of frontman Big Boss, who went ahead and decided to give his best performance and one of the greatest ever heard in Metal at the ripe old age of fifty, with his commanding singing voice displaying more versatility, power, and style than before and his blackened bellows and roars sounding more evil and frightening than ever, perhaps more so than any vocalist in the style has ever done since.
This is the band's best album overall. They'd never again show a comparable command of their unique, arcane songwriting, and even compared to their other masterworks, there's a maturity, depth, and power to be found here that their other albums have, and we cannot imagine a better bookend to an unequalled run of unique genius from one of the best bands to ever do it. An album without flaws from a band without peers!

Re-release of the seventh full-length studio album by cult Czech Epic Heavy/Black Metal band.
The seventh album from cult gods Root is a bit of a step back, but after the incredible "Black Seal" anybody would be hard pressed to come up with an equally amazing CD. Root have been following killer album after killer album. And if we can say this album is not quite as good as albums like "The Book" or "The Temple In The Underworld", this is still a great album.
Root is one of those bands that don't sound like anyone else, because they are not followers of a sound, but originators. There are elements of Doom, Thrash, early Black Metal like Bathory, Progressive Rock, Atmospheric music, and ever swing. This album is a lot less Metal than previous albums, but still stomps most modern bands' asses like they were smurfs, and it only sounds less heavy in comparison with the bonecrushing "Temple In The Underworld". The melodies are a lot more accessible on this disc, and Big Boss has flavored his vocal lines with swing and big band influences.
This album is the most weird and eclectic Root material to date, and it travels from Doomy riffs to Thrashy, to Atmospheric interludes and delicate melodies. In some places, the melodies don't seem to quite work, even in the context of Root's already twisted soundscape.
So, this is another fine Root CD. The performances are spot on, and some of the songs are excellent, but here Root seem to have gotten a little too weird for their own good. All that aside, this is still a very good album, and it only pales in comparison to their other material. A worthy album from a singular and iconoclastic band!!

Second full-length album by guitarist Ross "the Boss" Friedman (ex- Manowar) and his German Heavy/Power Metal band.
Following 2008's debut "New Metal Leader", the second album by former Manowar guitarist Ross the Boss Friedman, offers another thundering dose of Power Metal of more or less the same type his former bandmates used to make, minus the pompous epics that have clogged their latter-day (i.e. after he quit the band) work. This shouldn't come as a surprise, since the band he's using (vocalist/guitarist Patrick Fuchs, bassist Carsten Kettering, and drummer Matthias Mayer) were a Manowar cover band in their native Germany before being recruited to back him at a festival. So they've got the anthemic, screaming-guitars sound down to a T, and Ross' brutarian, Rock-informed leads (which gave Manowar's first six albums a bite that their later albums, which stole more from classical music, lacked) cut through everything like a pavement saw.
This is fist-pumping Metal, with catchy choruses, high-pitched screams, and thunderous drumming, and the lightning-speed riffing of the title track is proto-Thrash not unlike Accept's "Fast as a Shark" or early-'80s Judas Priest at their most hell-for-leather! Old-school Metal fans will find much to love here, and younger listeners could learn a lot about the genre's roots, and its true heart, from Ross the Boss and band!!

The second full-length album by russian Folk/Thrash/Black Metal band.
Melodic Black Metal with some Death Metal elements, from members of Russian bands Arkona, Mental Home and label cheaf of More Hate Productions! Rossomahaar started back in 1995 to prove to the whole world that Russia is capable of giving birth to Black Metal bands. In 1997 they released their first full-length album "Grotesque" on MC, by R.I.P. Productions.
The compositions in “Imperium Tenebrarum” all are well thought-through and structured. The guitars in this album are good and has catchy riffs. There are a few Heavy Metal riffs in there. The keyboards are cute and give a nice atmosphere. The drummer knows what he is hitting there on his drumset. The bass is great! The vocals is typical Black Metal vocals with no variations (except for one or two parts where Lazar does some clean vocals).
The cover-version of Metallica's "The Call Of Ktulu" presented here with band's own lyrics, and here and there a slightly more free interpretation. This song is called "Portals Of Chaos (The Final Transmigration)".
Grim and symphonic, heavy and melodic, this is an album that musically could just as well have come from Norway and which should satisfy every fan of Melodic Black Metal! If you're a Black Metal fan go buy their album, you'll like it!!

The twelfth full-length studio album by legendary Greek Extreme Metal band.
"Rituals" is an album that has obviously been written by veterans. The Greek legends inject a 27-year career, 12 albums, and more than 1200 shows into their songwriting. With confidence and skills derived from experience, each song represents its own sonic universe.
Guitarist/vocalist Sakis Tolis and brother Themis on drums achieve a perfect balance of amalgamating their classic and unique style of riffing and rhythm with exciting new elements sprinkled in to keep their material exciting and fresh.
Carefully chosen guests are being added for better effect, not name-dropping such as the spoken words of Nick Holmes (Paradise Lost) on "A Voice Like Thunder" or Samael's Vorph mesmerizingly quoting from Charles Baudelaire's "Les Fleurs Du Mal" throughout the song "Les Litanies De Satan". Goosebumps moments such as these are liberally sprinkled throughout the record, which manages the feat to sound rock solid and made out of one heavy piece as well as diverse and far ranging at the same time.
The experienced is enhanced by Jens Bogren's equally clear and transparent yet also massive as well as sombre mix and mastering at his widely renowned Fascination Street Studios (Amorphis, Borknagar, Moonspell, Devin Townsend, and many more).
We could say that "Rituals" is what its name means: a collection of transcendental and esoteric hymns of obscure and forgotten rituals. "Rituals" is a perfect album in musical sense, is another masterpiece, but it demands patience, because one single listening isn't enough to understand it fully.
The album debuted at number 14 on the Billboard heatseekers album chart and at number 10 on Ifpi Greek charts.

Ninth full-length album by the cult Greek Extreme/Black Metal band.
For a band whose name alone should have spelled a short and furtive career, Rotting Christ have certainly defied the odds, and their ninth studio album actually finds Greece's esteemed Metal institution approaching the conclusion of their second full decade of existence. What's more, all around bandleader, vocalist, and guitarist Sakis Tolis has continually uncovered new means to express his ever-evolving creativity over the years, while somehow managing to hang on to Rotting Christ's savage Black/Death Metal roots. Having said that, "Theogonia" gets underway in much the same fashion as its immediate predecessors: with a pair of explosive, blastbeat-driven Black Metal assaults called "The Sign of Prime Creation" and "Keravnos Kivernitos"; but except for the equally speedy tandem of "Rege Diabolicus" and "Helios Hyperion," a little later on, such breakneck behavior is neither the band's preference, nor their strongest suit. Rather, Rotting Christ have become the (virtually) undisputed masters of midtempo Extreme Metal marches, which Sakis effortlessly augments with untold layers of sublime guitar harmonies and atmospheric synthesizers. On "Theogonia", this winning template produces some of his finest creations since 1996's watershed "Triarchy Of The Lost Lovers", including the stunning "Phobos' Synagogue", "Gaia Tellus" and "He, the Aethyr." The band is clearly also bent on exploring their Hellenic heritage like never before, with many subjects and lyrics sung in their native tongue, not to mention evident appropriations of Greek Folk music scales for the likes of "Nemecic" and stupendous closer "Threnody." Along the way, Rotting Christ also find some time to visit ancient Sumer with "Enuma Elish," which, uniquely for this album, flirts with a rigid, quasi-Industrial aesthetic before unleashing one of the album's most musical and emotionally cathartic highlights. 
"Theogonia" (in Greek "Birth of the gods") is their first release through Season of Mist, and the first to feature guitarist Giorgos Bokos (Nightfall) in the line-up.
In 2007, Theogonia obtained the Metal Storm award for the Best Black Metal Album of the Year. "Theogonia" is pretty much all killer, no filler, and secures its position alongside Rotting Christ's, and indeed Extreme Metal's best albums!!

After recording a handful of demos and releasing 1991's "Passage To Arcturo" EP in their native Greece, Rotting Christ launched their international career with a promising first long-player "Thy Mighty Contract".
The album's production may have been somewhat subpar, and its songs slightly over-reliant on furious blastbeats, but none of this mattered a lick to hardcore Extreme Metal fans, which happily gorged on such tasty Black Metal entrails as "The Sign of Evil Existence" and "The Coronation of the Serpent". After all, even at the start of their storied career, Rotting Christ already showed a budding flair for melody on odes of sublime terror like "Transform All Suffering into Plagues", "Exiled Archangels" and "The Fourth Knight of Revelation". All told, these songs made a lasting first impression for Rotting Christ on the world stage, and the band would waste no time taking their dark, gloriously deviant art to dizzying new heights with their very next efforts.
While not being too brutal, it's still their fastest and most furious album to date. This album captures the energy of early Rotting Christ, while still showcasing enough melody and atmosphere to make it stand out as an excellent album. Each song is an enjoyment in itself, and the album as a whole is a wonderful experience! It certainly is a real gem!!
Originally released in late 1993 by Osmose Productions, the album was re-released by Century Black (Century Media) in 1997 with “Apokathelosis” EP as a bonus.

With this album, Rotting Christ climb another step on their steep career ladder. The legendary Greek band created a stunning sequel to the highly acclaimed "Theogonia" (2007) and "Aealo" (2010) albums.
Rotting Christ frontman, Sakis Tolis, considered the album "a journey into the knowledge of ancient civilizations and into the occultism that is rising from the dark side of each one of them".
The Greek phrase "Κατά τον δαίμονα εαυτού" may be translated in several ways, including as "do what thou wilt", a quote associated with Aleister Crowley and Thelema. Sakis Tolis contended that this was the label's translation of the Greek phrase, and a more accurate translation is "true to your own spirit", which better fits the subject matter of the album.
The album incorporates diverse instrumentation, including bagpipes and horns, and delves into Incan, Persian, Babylonian, Mayan, Romanian, Slavic, and Greek mythology. The band clearly confirm their very own sound, which they skillfully vary with female vocals, piano, bagpipes, horns and by other means. Their confident songwriting displays a maturity and perfection born out of long years of composing. By delving deep into ancient poetry, tales of spirits and beliefs, Rotting Christ evoke a fascinating mystical atmosphere.
