Spears's second eponymous record after "Britney" (2001), though the album's name refers to both her first and middle names. It marks Spears's first major activity since the dissolution of her longtime record label, Jive Records, in 2011.
On numerous occasions, Spears has described the album as the most personal record from her catalogue. Having assumed an integral position in its production, she co-wrote each track and collaborated with songwriters and producers including Sia and will.i.am to achieve her desired sound. Furthermore, the record features guest vocals from Spears's younger sister, Jamie Lynn, T.I., and will.i.am. Musically, Britney Jean contains strong elements of EDM and Pop.
The album debuted at number four on the US Billboard 200 with first-week sales of 107 000 copies. In doing so, it became Spears' lowest-peaking and lowest-selling record in the United States. The same happened in the United Kingdom, where it debuted at number 34; worldwide, Britney Jean reached the top 20 and top 30 in most countries. However, the album debuted at number one in China. Transitioning from the "darker and more urban" themes of her fifth studio album "Blackout" (2007), Spears wanted to make her next project "a little bit lighter". She recorded much of the album between March and September 2008, after being involuntarily placed under a conservatorship earlier that year, following her highly publicized personal struggles in 2007.
As executive producers, Larry Rudolph and Teresa LaBarbera Whites enlisted Spears' previous collaborators such as Max Martin, Bloodshy & Avant, Guy Sigsworth and Danja, as well as new ones, including Dr. Luke, Benny Blanco and Claude Kelly. Their efforts resulted in a primarily Pop and Dance record, whose lyrical themes addressed fame, infidelity, and infatuation.
A global commercial success, the album debuted atop the US Billboard 200 with first-week sales of 505 000 copies, becoming her fifth Number One album. Since then, it has been certified triple Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). By September 2009, the album had sold over four million copies worldwide. At the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards, its lead Single, "Womanizer", was nominated for Best Dance Recording.

Recorded during Spears' concert during the Dream Within A Dream Tour (2001–2002) at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, originally broadcast on HBO.

"Live And More!" features the Fox television special Britney in Hawaii, which showcased Spears' concert at the Hilton Hawaiian Village in Honolulu on April 24, 2000, as part of her (You Drive Me) Crazy Tour. It also includes sketches from Saturday Night Live's May 13 episode, which Spears hosted, and three music videos.
In the United States, "Live And More!" debuted at number three on the Top Music Videos on December 30, 2000. After weeks of fluctuating within the top ten, it peaked at number two on April 14, 2001. The album was certified triple Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) on November 15, denoting shipments of 300,000 units. In the United Kingdom, "Live And More!" peaked at number two, spending 20 non-consecutive weeks within the top ten, and was certified Platinum by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI).
