The fourth full-length album by Italian Progressive Rock/Metal band.
Empty Tremor has been on the Italian Progressive music scene for better than 17 years. Yet, since that time they have only released four albums. Until "Iridium", their most recent one was 2004's "The Alien Inside". Not highly unusual, but that is a long time between efforts. Much too long in the case of "Iridium", a world class work of entertaining melodic Progressive Rock.
Without question, beyond their intelligent and intriguing compositions, the most impressive element of Empty Tremor's music is the considerable talent of vocalist Gio De Luigi. Between his range, depth and effortless versatility, Luigi commands respect and attention. He must be one of the best unknown Rock/Metal singers going in the European theater. While expert throughout, his work on "Autumn Leaves", "Friends in Progression", "Everyday", and the absolutely brilliant "Warm Embrace" are massively entertaining displays of his power.
Their music is pretty darn good! Empty Tremor is hardly some Dream Theater (or name your own most recognizable, ever popular, melodic Prog band) copy cat. Their music can be equally accessible and soulful, sometimes heavy, but mostly intricate and expressive. The aforementioned songs, and adding the title cut, are elemental examples of Empty Tremors vision and musicianship. However, the opening two songs "Breaking the Mirror" and "Run" don't quite inspire, at least at first. But with return listens they will definitely persuade you to Empty Tremor's simple brilliance.
Many Progressive Rock/Metal albums has passed your way, but Empty Tremor's "Iridium" will easily be on your short list of the best Progressive bands! Solid stuff, and highly recommended!!

Band released for studio albums and got great reviews in media. As the name implies, it’s the 20th year’s anniversary for the band that was formed in the eve of 1994. It recorded live at Arena di Mezzano, Ravenna, Italy, on August 2, 2013. “Slice of Live - 20th Anniversary Acoustic Evening” has thirteen tracks, however because it is a live show all tracks are long, mainly by adding some long solo parts and some interaction with the crowed.

The only full-length studio album by German-American Progressive Thrash Metal band.
End Amen were a side project from members of Deathrow and Psychotic Waltz - two of the biggest names on the Progressive Metal scene. Line-up consist of: Uwe Osterlehner - vocals/guitars (Deathrow); Dan Rock - guitars (Psychotic Waltz, Darkstar); Siggi Blasey - bass (Crash Museum); Norm Leggio - drums (Psychotic Waltz, Teabag).
This album did a lot to establish a running trend in Germany lasting for 4-5 years, the Progressive Thrash Metal wave, which produced some of the finest bands of the 90s: Depressive Age, Lost Century, Megace, Skeptic Sense, Entophyte, etc. 
Deathrow's last effort "Life Beyond", released the same year, was a fairly decent, but hardly exceptional follow-up to its mighty predecessor "Deception Ignored". Uwe Osterlehner, the main man behind the latter album, was apparently not satisfied with the results, and decided to give himself one more chance to reach Progressive Metal heights, and he managed to apologize with quite a style for the not entirely convincing swansong of his main act. Deathrow's touring partners that same year were the American Progressive Metal wizards Psychotic Waltz, who were following on the positive reception of their sophomore effort "Into the Everflow". Still, this album wasn't as compulsively great as their brilliant debut "Social Grace", seeing the band abandoning the more aggressive shreds for the sake of sprawling, Psychedelic, abstract song-structures and riff-patterns. In other words, both acts were beyond their creative peaks (not really beyond life yet, fortunately), and this fact called for one more temptation, for Osterlehner the last creation he would put his name under, and for the Psychotic Waltz guys the last production which could be labelled as "Thrash" before their complete surrender to the more accessible and more digestible. Apparently all the men involved were aware that this would be their last opportunity for real Progressive Thrash greatness, because the album begins in such a brilliant fashion with the first three compositions that if the whole of it had been sustained in the same level, we would have been talking "Deception Ignored 2" all these years...
Consequently, this album is "a beast" of its own, sounding like a distant, not very legitimate, relative of the two bands' magnum opuses. At the same time its rich atmospheric undercurrents didn't quite serve as a rigid template for the other bands from the wave to follow, but the more initiated would be able to see influences from past achievements in the genre, like Hexenhaus' "Awakening" and Toxik's 'Think This". Its unique mixture of hard complex Thrashing and sinister keyboard sweeps could have been elaborated on; the guys could have given it one more try, if not for them, at least for the fans, but the disillusionment was already too big in the Deathrow camp for anyone to be interested, and the Psychotics were already too spaced out to get back to normal. It's a shame End Amen couldn't take off into something more than a one-shot. Frankly, though, it would have fallen on deaf ears at the time it manifested. So this was the beginning, and the end...
If you find yourself enthralled by the works of Mekong Delta, Watchtower, Calhoun Conquer, Paradox, Depressiv Age/D-Age, and later Deathrow, then this is certainly something you would value in your collection!!

The thing with Endless Recovery is that they prefer the traditional 80’s sound, but they don’t sound retro at all. On the contrary their music is fresh with good riffs and in general it has all these elements that a fan of the sound would appreciate.

The second full-length album by Swedish Melodic Death/Thrash Metal band.
Enemy Is Us is keeping their native country’s Metal legacy alive by delivering an explosive mixture of old school Swedish Death Metal and new school Thrash Metal and adding just a touch of Hardcore aggression.
The album starts at full throttle, kicking in with a massive wall of sound in "Through Vile Black Blood", only to slow down a little bit in the third track, which carries the cool name of "Show Me Them Horns". The melodic parts everywhere are embedded in the heavy songs. For example the backing vocals in "End This Life"; melodic yet not too present, which makes sure the main focus is on Ronnie Nyman’s vocals after all. Also the length of songs (except for the last one) keep things interesting with a length under four minutes. This way you can keep moshing around your room all by yourself without losing interest because of too long, boring passages. It’s all really straightforward, no bullshit whatsoever!
Enemy Is Us would do a splendid job on stage, creating a massive, grooving sound of Death/Thrash Metal. Be sure to check it out ‘cause many of you will like this. Show them horns f***ers!

The third full-length album by the Swedish Modern Industrial Melodic Death Metal band.
Engel are back with a piece of heaven for any friend of Modern Metal. The comparison to In Flames is unavoidable but, in "Blood Of Saints", Engel easily surpass their forefathers’ most recent output. This is what the follow up to "A Sense Of Purpose", should have sounded like, and, with the addition of Niclas Engelin - Engel’s lead guitarist and namesake - to the In Flames ranks, future ventures just might.
Lead single “Question Your Place” - a powerfully kinetic, almost ‘Dance-Metal’, number littered with Electronic effects - opens the album with a massive Dubstep breakdown. That description may be enough to put you off on principle alone – after all, last time DJs mixed with Metal didn’t particularly yield the most favorable of results. However, the song is positively huge, with an equally massive, and crisp, production – populated by expertly timed, double-kick barrages and an infectiously catchy chorus, leading into the most satisfying of tempo drops – the whole while being propelled forth by an irresistible, pounding, Rammstein-esque, Industrial thump.
Should you still be put off by the Heavy, Industrial element of “Question Your Place”, fear not. It is followed up by the Thrashiest, most aggressive song on the album, in the form of “Frontlines”, whose main riff owes a substantial debt to, obvious influence, In Flames, which gives way to head-banging, ballad, “Feel Afraid”. The band continue on in this manner for the remainder of the album – churning out infectious, Gothenburg-induced Pop-Metal, almost to an entire neglect of the direction proposed by the album opener – though the Electronic element is ever present.
This adherence to traditional values over new frontiers of experimentation is both the album’s greatest strength and its greatest weakness. The band do the whole Post-Melodeath thing better than any other, retaining just enough of a hard edge to the guitars amid the squeaky clean production and Pop fluff, and plenty of killer lead-breaks to still be undeniably Metal. However, “Question Your Place” is twice as good a song as any other on the album, and it would have been nice to see some more hard hitters Pop their heads up throughout the album’s 38-minute duration.
"Blood Of Saints" is a thoroughly enjoyable experience. Engel hold the balance between skill and brutality, melodies and dynamic, classic Metal influences and new-school characteristics. Listen to Modern Metal from Sweden at its best!!

"Heart Of The Way" obviously is pretty much different if we'd compare it to "Re-Vision", the second album. "Heart Of The Way" is comprised of six tunes which seemingly last for eternity, but simultaneously don't have anything in common with the notion of boredom. So what is it, style-wise? Ok, what about the following words: Progressive, Gothic, Doom and Thrash Metal? Try to mix Mekong Delta, Deathrow, Anathema (circa "Eternity"), KOROVA and… DEAD CAN DANCE into one… and... no, you won't get Ens Cogitans, but something that could be this band. Generally speaking, just like all the works by this band, this one is nearly indescribable, yet definitely the one to be listened to. Highly recommended!!

Second full-length album by the cult russian Gothic/Progressive Metal band.
Second album of the band sounding really different (like always with Ens Cogitans) if we’d compare “Re-Vision” to its predecessor, “Heart Of The Way”. This effort sounds quite similar to “One Second” by Paradise Lost, however it doesn’t mean that it’s some regular commercial crap. “Re-Vision” appears as melodic, harmonious and Atmospheric Post-Doom Metal, featuring plenty of different samples, loops and programming, which doesn’t harm anything, though – and what’s most important, it is really heartfelt. The growling is gone (too bad), so there’re only clean vocals here, undoubtedly pleasant ones (a rare thing if talking about Russian bands).
The musicianship is nearly perfect (the same goes for production), although it’s a pity that there’re less vanguard moves than “Heart Of The Way” had (well, more likely, there’re utterly absent here). In short, it’s just melodic, mild and tremendous music, something that is definitely not of “dark” origin.
And finally, amongst other tunes, there’s a remix on a song called “Cage”, performed by Oversun (a side-project founded by Ens Cogitans singer and guitarist). Furthermore, design in the whole (and artwork, in particular) seems to be highly exciting.
As to the best tracks… in fact, all of them strike as truly magnificent!!

The twelfth full-length album by the legendary Norwegian Progressive Black Metal band.
Two decades after their birth, Enslaved's latest album once again surprise even those who are familiar with their non-linear development. "Riitiir" embodies a lot more of what has come to be known as Enslaved: indefinable and grandiose, honest and unearthly, dark, harsh, and beautiful!
The mighty Norwegian warriors of Progressive Extreme Metal offer a mindblowing eight new songs and, astonishingly, perhaps one of their absolute strongest albums thus far. Heading even further into Prog and using even more clean singing than before, the hour’s worth of music on the album hits the sweet spot where insane Black Metal meshes with compelling melodies. “Riitiir” is more Progressive and Experimental than the previous release, and much of it will be very pleasing to anyone who thought Opeth’s “Heritage” was a letdown, as it keeps the Metal Heavy without losing the softer stuff. There are several different styles mixed together and swapped out on any given song, but the core sound doesn’t get lost in all the changes, as there is a solid framework that holds everything together and keeps it all connected.
The changing musical landscape isn’t the only thing that refuses to stick to one style, as the vocals are also varied across the track listing. There are growls and grunts galore, but also plenty of clean singing, backing shouts, and deep spoken word segments. This melting pot creates some interesting atmospheres on individual tracks, like “Death in the Eyes of Dawn”, which nearly reaches a ‘90s Grunge feel, or the Gothic overtones of “Forsaken”.
It probably shouldn’t come as any big surprise that “Riitiir” is another knockout release from a band that consistently pushes the envelope and moves its sound forward. With a strong balance between Extreme Metal and clean Prog melodies, Enslaved’s latest album is at the forefront of Progressive Black Metal and a must-hear for fans of Opeth, Borknagar, or any music that combines opposing styles!!
