The debut and only full-length album by Russian Symphonic Black Metal band.
Dryados's music is fairly different to any other band you'll ever hear. The music tends to change all the time. All instruments are balanced well and you can hear everything perfectly. The keyboards on songs like "Who's Your God Now" and "Phantasm" will make you happy. They are so haunting but so melodic as well. The drums are fast-paced and are there for the support of the keyboards to create an epic atmosphere. The vocals are a different thing though. They're the most interesting thing.The vocalist sings so well. Dryados loves creating melodies at the start of the songs and never repeating them at all. It's a trick to get listeners to listen to tracks over and over. Different mixture of vocals are here as well which spice things up for the listener. The lyrics deserve a mention as well. They're about how corrupt people are these days. They're worth reading.
There is no female vocals nor orchestral vocals. This is a must purchase album to any person who thinks bands like Limbonic Art or Emperor has mastered Symphonic Black Metal - yet again you'll probably avoid it since you know you'll be proven wrong! Romantic Sympho Black Metal for all fans of genre!!

Official release of the debut full-length album by Italian Progressive Death Metal band.
Italy's well known for its crusing Death Metal scene and over the top Technical wizardry. Duality is yet another great exemple of the quality bands available in this great part of the world. Born out of a love of old/new school Progressive Death Metal, classical strings and Jazz improvisation, Duality have managed to somehow make all of those vibes work cohesively on their debut full length.
"Elektron" was released independently by Duality in 2015, but PRC Music has officially released album next year.
The quality and musicianship of Duality is definitely up to par and definitely above average on a wider scale. Structurally there’s a foundation of modern Technical Death Metal a la Obscura and The Faceless; and if that were all that the band had to offer, it’d still make for a pretty good album. Tracks like “Six Years Locked Clock”, “Azure” and “Along the Crack” all have threads of respectable rage, but it’s the sharp left turns throughout that rage that truly excels "Elektron" forward. Throbbing riffs give way unexpectedly to the singular serenity of chamber music and/or the kind of Jazzy guitar bounce typically heard on your local public radio station on a Saturday night. Duality also are keen on the kind of dissonant note juxtaposition made famous by the likes of Atheist and Voivod, which when matched against these more serene moments creates a beautifully discordant cacophony
Deploying so many varying styles and influences into a traditionally rigid song structure could easily come across as shticky or forced, but it never feels unnatural. “Hanged on a Ray of Light” is a fantastic example of this feat, with its sweeping violin runs and percussive shuffle anchoring islands of guitar harmonies and venomous vocal spew.
Mixing Technical Death Metal with Jazz and Progressive music is nothing new in this world but the general feel and the absolutely amazing musical arrangements makes this band a solid contender to the throne left vacant since the good old days of Atheist, Cynic and Death. Top notch production, awesome album cover and artwork... you absolutely need this!!

The third full-length album by Belgian Neoclassical Power Metal band.
A very solid album of Neoclassical Power Metal that doesn't overdo its technical theatrics. Everything feels "just right". Iron Mask seems to be a revolving door when it comes to band members, as new musicians come and go, similar to Avantasia, but in this case the rotation probably isn’t part of an artistic vision. Luckily, the creative juices all reside in Dushan Petrossi who, like Tobias Sammet, writes all the music and determines the direction of each album. "Shadow Of The Red Baron" is the successor to the excellent, if not near perfect "Hordes Of The Brave", and this is a great album too.
One of the band’s strengths is in vocalist Goetz “Valhalla Jr.” Mohr, a singer who occupies a very polar opposite to the 80s-style and at times upbeat Neoclassical riffing that permeates the album so tirelessly. He’s not guttural, per se, but he has a somewhat smoky, deep voice that he projects loudly and confidently, while maintaining clarity. Oliver Hartmann chimes in, too, and takes the lead on the song "Dreams", which seems to have been written just for him because his voice is just so strikingly similar to Jorn Lande’s that one would be hard pressed to differentiate the two.
Chief songwriter and guitar virtuoso Dushan Petrossi’s particular focus this time was to create superb songs first and foremost where the excellent musicianship only lift the music to an even higher level. With such a strong vocal presence Petrossi counters with equally strong songwriting. One tendency in Neoclassical Power Metal is to over-embellish solos into technical showcases that rarely fit comfortably into the musical direction of the song, but Petrossi has a talent for making the incorporation tasteful. Not one moment he drifted off into solo land just to showboat his skills.
“Shadow Of The Red Baron” is 11 tracks of melodic Neo-classical Metal yet is accessible enough for fans of Traditional Metal and Power/Symphonic Metal too. A number of traditional German Speed Metal fans who like a streamlined, Gamma Ray approach to songwriting could also be roped in by an album like this. We already knew that Petrossi is able to write catchy and melodic song material and this album proves this statement more than any of its predecessors! Don't be scared off by the Neo-Classical tag that undoubtedly hangs around Dushan Petrossi's neck if you're not really into the genre. There's enough material on "Shadow Of The Red Baron" that can keep any Melodic Hard Rock and Metal fan going for a while!!

Re-release of the third full-length album by French Atmospheric Death Metal band.
Great Dane Records seem to be getting started by signing a bunch of under-the-radar bands and reissuing their most recent albums in nice, slick new packages with some real promotion behind them. Dylath-Leen are hyped as "atmospheric" Death Metal, but this is pretty damned aggressive for that label. In this instance, "atmospheric" seems to mean they throw in some keyboards here and there. This album is mostly propulsive Death Metal riffing with a bit more melody that is standard. The vocals are iffy, as too often they slip over into a monotone scream that is a bit ‘coreish for my tastes.
"Cabale" follows the bands 2008 release "Semion" and whilst the wait has been far too long the result is well worth it.
From the opening track "Never Rising Sun" the tone is set for an all out assault on the senses with Kathy’s incredibly powerful vocals burning a hole straight between the listeners ears. However, the band don’t rely solely on the female vocal angle with guitarist Igor also sharing duties on many of the tracks, which adds a deeper more malevolent feel, none more so than on "Silent Land".
Categorising Dylath-Leens’s musical style is not easy. Whilst they do draw from the Extreme/Death Metal corner, they have the vision and talent to experiment and push the boundaries further than many other bands in that genre. Having said that, if you’re expecting ballads you will be disappointed, but if you want to listen to a refreshingly different band that based on this release are definitely on the way up then give this CD a go!

The second full-length studio album by Czech Power Metal band.
When producer Roland Grapow (once an axeman of both Helloween and Masterplan) was hired for the production of this album, he probably knew what he got himself into. From this end, he actually landed on a potential gold mine of talents. Along with his clean and fine work on the production, Eagleheart showed that their name, besides being a song of Stratovarius, will eventually be some day known and spoken about by many.
Drawing its influences and sharing similarities with Rhapsody Of Fire, Masterplan, Gamma Ray, Helloween, Yngwie Malmsteen and Kamelot, this is a force to be acquainted with. Even though that the rain of Euro Power Metal bands dragged the notion of swarms filled with too many clichés, Eagleheart has its own advantages. They do have aspects that would display the common melodic choruses, same kind of riffs and undying speed for instance, but there is more than that. "Dreamtherapy" has a bit than a portion of maturity.
Right by the side of the normalities of the subgenre, the material offers time signature breaks of beats, articulate Neo-Classical solos of high standards, a rather diverse line of rhythms and a little more than the traditional set of vocals. Don't be wrong, Eagleheart is a Power Metal being, and it showed alliance to the characteristics especially when keeping the flow and somewhat accessibility of their tracks. However, what spiced up their album is that touch of maturity and a heavier approach in comparison to their debut.
"Dreamtherapy" is an extremely strong and influential album. Eagleheart has produced a gem with this one, and it is the complete package of excellent musicianship and songwriting. There isn’t a weak track on this album, and it should stand out for quite some time. This album is a must for every Metalhead that respects the genre!

Technical/Avant-garde Metal band of guitarist Pavel Jerabek and singer Martin Brnovjak (ex-Absurd Conflict) released new six songs mini-album.
The album starts with familiar Edain stylings, which include Avant-gardish, Dark Heavy Metal and Progressive alteration. The guitar and bass works conjure up quite an artistic, antiquated feel. It simply feels archaic yet timeless. The band isn't very heavy at its heaviest, but they sound raw in a live way. However, the vocals are considerably raw, compared to anything else; non-melodic and unvarying brawling. The song is rather multidimensional, in a good way, but then comes a Jazz break and it just happens to be a totally irrelevant one.
Besides the complex and sometimes longer tracks combining anything from Death Metal aggression through complicated rhythms to almost Fusion elements and lyrics dealing with the heritage of ancient philosophy, vis-à-vis present day issues of political economy, there are also two experimental instrumental tracks that the guitarists arranged from the drum jam and solo, respectively. The instrumentalists' performances are great. They are skilled and they can switch between the music styles well!

The eleventh full-length studio album by legendary German Power Metal band.
"Defenders Of The Crown" marks Edguy's return, and it was preceded by cautious and safe statements from the band's side. Band finally decided to listen to the fans' prayers and to take a step back, to disown that kind of weak Power Hard Rock of which their recent works were tainted, embracing again the sound Edguy mastered through the years. "Defenders Of The Crown" embodies once again the typical German Power Metal style: heavy, fast and cheesy, incredibly catchy, and with a stellar performance by Sammet and his bandmates. This album proves these guys are still hot and burning!
Quite ironically, while Avantasia was born from a rib of Edguy, now the first is bringing the latter back to life, since "Defenders Of The Crown" has many Avantasia traits. From the opener "Sabre & Torch", that many correctly matched with "Invoke The Machine" from 2013's "The Mystery Of Time", to the 9-minute closer "The Eternal Wayfarer", which just sounds like Edguy covering Led Zeppelin, everything is over the top and epic. But, obviously, this is Edguy. The fun traits of the band also shine here, both with Tobi's well-known antics spread over various tracks ("Do Me Like A Caveman") and in the rather unexpected cover of Falco's "Rock Me Amadeus". Some of you will cry while blessing your ears with it!
"Defenders Of The Crown" is a great release, the first in a long time that doesn't cast aspersions on "Mandrake" and "Hellfire Club" 's memory. With restored songwriting and musicianship, Edguy are back on track!! Back to Baba Yaga!!!)
