Execration is innovative and flamboyant. It mixes up everything very artistically – flashy guitar-playing that wouldn’t be out of place on a technical album but is coupled with certifiably Death Metal parts, evocative of the wackier Morbid Angel. There’s sane and there’s schizophrenic, but Execration displays multiple personality disorders and yet it’s part of its personality, so to speak. It all sticks together during the execution.
The album’s got immensely dark parts that wouldn’t be out of place on an Immolation album, riffs so heavy that it would slice down a mutant body in one repetition, drumming that is animated as if it’s possessed by a writhing animal.
"The Acceptance Of Zero Existence" is an exceptional album that could easily be mistaken for anything else this genre produces by the dung load. This one lies there, shining bright, almost outcast by its looks, but it’s truly something else. More listens reveal its intricate fabric, sewn together using many different pieces of Death Metal textures. Rarely do you come across an album this heavy and brutal, which is also doing something innovative without losing its sound!

Founded by Luca Bianchi and Tiziano Marcozzi, Exiled On Earth has been in the Metal game since 1995 under the moniker of Maelstrom. Having spent 16 years together (1995-2000) has paid off in many respects; the guys are a tight unit and work well together musically. This band keeps alive a sound, which has offshoots from Thrash and Progressive Metal.
Exiled On Earth’s sound features the fluidly delivered yet demanding musicianship of bands like Coroner and Helstar, approaching the Prog/Tech Thrash Metal idea in a way that is smoother in its execution and more songwriting oriented as a whole. Their talents bleed through at key moments throughout each song, preferring to get a lot out of relatively little compared to say Vektor or stylistic pillars Watchtower. Shifting tempos and sharp flurries of demanding man oeuvres populate this release with upper-register lead riffing that melds the previously mentioned Helstar’s poetic melodic sensibility with the cutting precision of groups like Forbidden and Germany’s Vendetta. It’s not *quite* Power/Thrash Metal but it touches on that fusion more than a few times, something bolstered further by the resonant mid to baritenor singing, carrying quite a few fleshed out melody lines.
The vocals play a larger part than they do in Thrash Metal in general and tend to run contrapuntally to the riffs and adding an extra layer of melody, comparable to classic Watchtower or Toxik. Although this is much more consonant as a whole, capable of a smooth Power Metal character or at times a grit-inflected Thrashy snarl, sometimes going into proto-Death growl territory. The rhythm section are far from slouching either with careful harmonies from the bass slithering around the riffs, quite noticeable during the more harmony driven, less intense portions. Drumming takes advantage of frequent shifts in aggression levels to work in careful patterns with quick, deft fills deceptively easy to miss. This might seem humble compared to many other bands given the Technical or Progressive tag but its strength isn’t in raw quantity of notes hit but the steady deliberation and careful, subtle nuance that is all too often missing in today’s theory book sorcerers.
Apart from a few moments where the songs sounded too similar to each other, these guys have put together an enjoyable album that demonstrates their musical experience. Those who long for the days when the Thrash Metal genre was something other than a self-referential in-joke should grab this album as soon as possible!

Finland's Exocosm are a band that unquestionably and deliberately falls into the Progressive Tech-Thrash crowd, proudly wearing their influences on their sleeve like the badges of honor that they are. Technical Thrash Metal has been somewhat nonexistent during the Thrash Metal resurgence of the past fifteen years with the only new bands of note being Mutant and Vektor, alongside a few Voivod releases and the reformation of Toxik and Coroner being the only real presence.
Straight off the bat, "Spiral Of Decay" is a monstrously impressive piece of work. Those jazzy mid sections, clean sections and tempo changes are incredibly immersive which isn't something that albums are usually capable of doing... it's all just so goddamn good for a first album!
Exocosm's "Spiral Of Decay" is sat comfortably next to Gama Bomb's "The Terror Tapes" as the biggest yet most welcome surprise release of the year. For a band to put out a debut release of this quality is utterly staggering, and Exocosm have slapped the stale Thrash Metal scene in the chops with their gigantic collective dongs in doing so.
If you thought Vektor was the only decent Progressive Thrash Metal band of the new Thrash era, you haven't heard Finland's Exocosm yet. Absolutely killer!
Buy "Spiral Of Decay" as soon as you can, it's incredible!!

After years struggling for recognition while watching their peers achieve fame and fortune, Bay Area mainstays Exodus had every reason to be dejected when they re-grouped in 1988 to record their third album "Fabulous Disaster". Still, they went on to create their most diverse and carefully conceived effort yet, while remaining faithful to their no-frills Thrash ethic. But while the album represented the realization of their vision, as well as their commercial peak, it still failed to gain them their well-deserved place alongside such Thrash Metal giants as Metallica, Anthrax and Slayer.
After a random spoken word intro, opener "The Last Act of Defiance" quickly sets the frenzied pace, taken a step further by the title track's highly amusing apocalyptic vision. Both songs also showcase the amazingly fast feet and incomparable fills of Tom Hunting - the only human capable of challenging Slayer's Dave Lombardo for bragging rights as Thrash Metal's greatest drummer. Up next, "The Toxic Waltz" provides a fresh take on the band's mosh classic "A Lesson in Violence", and the more complex "Cajun Hell" also succeeds despite its silly lyrics. Significantly more intelligent, the eight-minute epic "Like Father, Like Son" is another show of maturity, and other highlights like "Corruption" and "Verbal Razors" exhibit the blinding precision and speed of Gary Holt and Rick Hunolt - arguably the best, and definitely the most over-looked, lead guitar tag team in the genre. Finally, two choice cover versions of AC/DC's "Overdose" and the Southern Californian classic "Low Rider" adds just enough flavor and humor to the proceedings. Probably one of the best albums of the band!
UK label Music for Nations released the album in 1988, but in the USA it was released in January 1989 by Combat/Relativity Records.

The album comes after a huge change in the band's lineup. Prior to recording, Exodus lost three of the five band members that recorded the amazing "Tempo Of The Damned". This is the first album to feature new vocalist Rob Dukes, after the departure of Steve "Zetro" Souza during the band's South American tour in support of the band's previous album "Tempo Of The Damned". It is also the band's first studio album not to feature Rick Hunolt on guitars, with Lee Altus as his replacement, and the only Exodus album to feature Paul Bostaph on drums after Tom Hunting's second departure as a result of the reoccurrence of the illness that prompted him to depart in 1989.
"Shovel Headed Kill Machine" consists of ten tracks, all of which have a common goal of bludgeoning you to death. Every track on the album is awesome. It's not unlike "Reign In Blood", "Darkness Descends" or "Pleasure To Kill" in that regard. Helping the album's cause in a big way is the unique mix provided by the always-awesome Andy Sneap. There is a shovel headed kill machine on the loose with Gary Holt sitting behind the wheel – and he is angry! This machine will stop for nothing and is relentless! Listen to serial killers such as "Raze", "Deathamphetamine", "I Am Abomination", "Going Going Gone" or "44 Magnum Opus" and you will know exactly what its mean!
If you like or just merely appreciate Thrash, this is required listening. And if you don't like it, well you just don't like Metal! Enjoy your Neutral Milk Hotel, loser!!)) This will definitely Thrash Metal album of the year 2005!!!

Released in early 2004, "Tempo Of The Damned" is Exodus' first studio release since 1992's "Force Of Habit". It's also the last release with appearance of longtime vocalist Steve "Zetro" Souza until his return for 2014's "Blood In, Blood Out" as well as the last appearance of founding drummer Tom Hunting until 2007's "The Atrocity Exhibition... Exhibit A". The album also has the last studio appearance of guitarist Rick Hunolt.
Given up for dead over a decade earlier, the mighty Exodus - the original kings of Thrash Metal - made an unexpected but long-rumored return with this album. But what had been intended as a long-awaited reunion of their seminal "Bonded By Blood" lineup was tragically thwarted with the sudden death of vocalist Paul Baloff in early 2002. Fittingly, Baloff was duly supplanted by none other than Steve "Zetro" Souza, the man who'd replaced him in the first place and who had gone on to sing on every Exodus album thereafter, including their mid-period Thrash classic "Fabulous Disaster". Of course the fact that Souza was clearly the better and more reliable vocalist should not be overlooked, and with the welcome involvement of long-gone founding drummer Tom Hunting, "Tempo Of The Damned" still serves as quite the family reunion. It also doesn't disappoint musically, picking up the pieces right where the band's star-crossed career had fallen apart 11 years earlier with the underrated "Force Of Habit", and turning in a performance that is, at once, vintage Exodus and mindful of modern recording standards as well. All of the old, much loved Exodus hallmarks are here: lyrics filled with biting, sarcastic social commentary; no-fuss, jagged Thrash Metal; and unparalleled technical precision.
As has always been the case, it's the dazzling six-string tag team of Rick Hunolt and Gary Holt (quite simply the tightest rhythm guitar duo in the history of Thrash Metal) that truly drives the Exodus bullet train over lightning runs like "Scar Spangled Banner" and the wonderfully retro-named "Impaler". Their solos are as musical as the riffing is not, and, as heard on excellent examples like "Shroud of Urine" and "Forward March", always typified by inventiveness without excess pyrotechnics.
Taken as a whole, "Tempo Of The Damned" successfully resurrects Exodus as the potent and formidable Thrash Metal machine of old. The fact that they are well aware of their strengths, and content to stick with them to the end, is what makes this such a welcome release for the band's loyal followers, as well as younger fans looking to understand what got Heavy Metal where it is today.

Although the band is currently on hiatus, it is mandatory that this album sees the light of day.
The first track, “86”, is the perfect introduction to a perfect Brutal Death Metal album. Although this particular CD will spin for only 25 minutes of length, the songs are heavy and straight to the point with an impressive vocal range and amazing riffs, incredible bass lines and solid crushing drums.
"Dementia Tremens" is a ruthless display of bone shattering calamity that is reminiscent of bands like: Dysentery, Digested Flesh and Disgorge!

This quartet play a technically challenging Brutal style of Guttural Death Metal that’s sure to blow your brains out and then some. The razor sharp riffs and rhythms are crafted so well; they feel like blunt pieces of steel piercing right through your flesh. The drumming is so tight and explosive; it feels like you’ve stepped over a landmine with every blast beat. As brutal and oppressive as they can, sometimes fast and other ones slower, but with a very good technique, they are really good in what they chose to play. The vocals are indeed guttural (some piggish screams appears from time to time), excellent guitars (even with some melodic interventions), very good bass and drums works (them both are the true powerhouse of the band), and all these elements bound together creates a strong and powerful music.
The sound quality, as a demand for the style, is extremely clear, but giving the band’s work weight and an oppressive insight, turning the listening a good one, but take care of your ears!
Extinctionist has not only kept their music interesting and thought captivating but their lyrics too, are unique in that they talk about alien life forms taking over the planet Earth. With sound bytes of monster-like robots engaged in conversations, and earthlings being slaughtered by these outwardly creatures, the listener is truly transported to a Sci-Fi nightmare.
This is a good and honest band, with potential to reach great things. Extinctionist just doesn’t play Death Metal; they live it, eat it, breathe it and die it, on “Portals Of Extraterrestrial Invasions”! Eleven attacks of pure blasting brutality await your ears!!

Most fans probably already know that Thrash Metal is a fusion of Punk Rock and Heavy Metal. Heavy Metal is still the dominant ingredient, but sometimes the Punk Rock aspect is a bit stronger than usual like in this case here. Extrema’s “The Old School EP” is definitely a Thrash Metal album, but the Thrash Metal’s Punk Rock roots shine through quite a bit.
Already with the first song, you get a super-fast Thrash Metal treatment with that certain Punk Rock touch that you can also hear on many Tankard albums. Their music is similar. Extrema’s (and Tankard’s) Thrash Metal is still a nice blend of Thrash Metal with a certain Punk Rock vibe and screaming guitars. Yes, the guitar is a bit repetitive at times, but it still suits the song just fine.
5-song EP also features 2 live bonus-tracks.
Overall, this is a nice EP. Extrema does obviously not reinvent the genre, but this is Old School Thrash Metal! Old School Tankard-style Thrash Metal just as it should be!!

Exumer has finally exhumed themselves from the dead and have decided to get back into the studio to unleash a long-awaited third album. This is the band's first full-length album since 1987, after 24 years of silence!
Combining punishing production with aggressive song writing, Exumer manage to capture the intensity and feel of the 1980s Thrash Metal gems while attaining modern sonic density.
Original vocalist Mem Von Stein makes a triumphant return, and is probably the best asset of this newish Exumer. He still has those solid, semi-clean Teutonic shouts 'n' shrieks in full order. Original guitarist Ray Mensh teams up with a new guy simply named HK. The bass of Tony Schiavo pops up to say hi now and again, while the boring drumming of Matthias Kassner pales when compared to the technicality and aggression of Syke Bornetto.
Album includes re-recording song "Fallen Saint" from cult debut album “Possessed By Fire” (one of the best albums in Thrash/Speed Metal history), as well as re-recording song "I Dare You" from the second album "Rising From The Sea".
