30th Anniversary Edition, the first official re-release of the second full-length studio album by legendary American Gothic/Thrash/Hardcore/Doom Metal band.
Type O Negative has always had a strange and twisted sense of humour. But nowhere is this more obvious than on this album. They have given us some strange liner notes at times, but this album really is the go-to point if you want to tell someone how weird this band is.
The album was designed to mimic a live performance, with fake audience noise and comedic interruptions like a staged bomb threat, satirizing a previous tour controversy. The initial release featured an extreme close-up of an anus, reportedly belonging to frontman Peter Steele. Later reissues feature different cover art, such as a stylized "Dance of Death" painting.
Now, the craziest part about this album is that it is supposed to be a live album, because the band's label Roadrunner had it written in the contract that Type O Negative was to record a live album. However, the band allegedly took the money they were supposed to spend on producing the live album on cheap vodka instead. Realizing they needed to fulfil their contractual obligations, the band simply re-recorded their debut album, "Slow Deep And Hard", added a couple of songs and retitled some other songs and then added fake crowd noise… But they did not stop there. It would be too easy to simply add in crowd noise. No, Type O Negative added in chants of "You Suck!" and improvised a fight between Steele and the fans, with Steele yelling "You suck too" at one point in the album and then making fun of the crowd because he's getting paid to play, and the crowd had to pay to get in. At about the midway point, the band claimed it had to stop playing because there was a bomb threat in the concert hall. After a few seconds of silence, they began playing again…
Beyond the insanity of the fake crowd, the music is very impressive, and it does sound as if they are playing live. The first seven tracks are the fake concert, and then the band adds in a very interesting cover of the Black Sabbath classic "Paranoid" for the final track.
The musicianship is tight and is held together well despite the often changing tempos. Type O Negative will never be mistaken for an incredibly musically talented act. But that is okay, because the band plays just well enough to sound fine playing the style of music they play. They have always been able to write long, multipart epic songs and this has been their best musical quality. Here, for example, we have the fifteen-minute opener "I Know You're Fucking Someone Else", which lays the groundwork for the rest of the album. The band's style is a form of Gothic Metal, incorporating various influences such as Black Sabbath and The Beatles. They take those influences and slow them down and twist them to form a sound that is unlike any other band. The track "Hey Peter" is a rearranging of the Jimi Hendrix song "Hey Joe" about a jealous lover ready to kill his cheating girlfriend. Here, Peter Steele replaces the gun with an axe. The last track is a morosely slow adaptation of the Black Sabbath classic "Paranoid". Somehow, the band stretches it out more than twice as long as the original.
Overall, this is a very fun listen. The humour involved keeps things light and interesting, despite the very dark subject. At all, Type O Negative never did record a real live album.
Remastered re-release on a double Green/Black Marbled vinyl in gatefold cover features original censored cover art with peelable scratch n’ sniff sticker surprise. The release also includes Black Sabbath's "Paranoid" cover song as a bonus track, and an exclusive fold-out colour poster of the 1493 painting “The Dance of Death”.

25th Anniversary Edition first re-release of the second full-length album by the legendary German Heavy Metal singer (ex-Accept) and his band.
Udo Dirkschneider will always be remembered as that wild little guy on a giant ball smashing into things on MTV for the video to Accept’s “Balls to the Wall”.  Only a few years after that iconic Heavy Metal video, Udo went out on his own and formed the band U.D.O.  In 1988, he released his second solo effort titled "Mean Machine". This was, in many ways, his first solo album, as his first release were songs written by Accept. On "Mean Machine" these were his songs and his former band's. Not that too much changed, as the voice was still as mean and snarling as ever. The guitars were distorted and the rhythm section played like a locomotive.  
"Mean Machine" is one of the best U.D.O. ever released albums, as well as the title track is one of the best tunes he ever released. “Dirty Boys” is an ode to that Rock and Roll lifestyle while “Streets on Fire” is an epic rocker. “Don’t Look Back” kicks off the show by smacking you between the eyes with a loud riff while “Break the Rules” summed up what Udo’s fans wanted out of life… to rock out and break the rules! 
The album still sounds great. So, crank it up and get your German Rock out as Udo has always done it right! This is a great trip back in time!!

The fourth re-release of the third full-length studio album by cult Norwegian Folk Black Metal band.
From their Folkish Black Metal beginnings, to their current Post Rock/Electronic music experimentation, Ulver have always stood tall in the Norwegian music scenario. For a band of musicians to change so deeply and drastically, yet to be able to keep producing music that is so true to them and so utterly splendid, is something beyond extraordinary. "Nattens Madrigal" marks the end of an era for Ulver, namely their Folk/Black Metal period, and tops it off, not without throwing in unique elements, that would distinguish the record both from those following and from those precedeing it. If "Bergtatt" was a real work of art in combining Atmospheric Black Metal with the Norwegian folklore and Folk music, and "Kveldssanger" was a pure Folk album, "Nattens Madrigal" exhibits the Black Metal core of Ulver in its purest, rawest and most violent song, but without abandoning the Folk elements that made the fortune of the previous albums.
"Nattens Madrigal" is a sort of concept focused on the theme of lycanthropy, inspired by the traditional Norwegian tales of werewolves. The album expands the "Metal" component of Ulver's sound, but it does not fall to incorporate acoustic arpeggios and Folk melodies, making up for a unique mix of Raw Black Metal and Folk.
Musically speaking, the album is absolutely fantastic: the twin axes often play different patterns that complement each other perfectly, consisting in frantic tremolo picking or harsh chords according to the case, both soaked with significative sparks of melody, that are widely incorporated in the riffing and the acoustic parts alike. In the meanwhile, a ferocious and merciless assault is taking place behind the drum-kit, in the form of relentless and extremely fast blast beats, that offer a harsh counterpart to the aggressive yet melodic riffing. The screams are equally rabid, mostly centered around the typical mid-range of Old-school Black Metal acts, but occasionally spacing in the higher, shriek-like register. The bass lines are particularly interesting and complex, especially considering the fact that this is a Black Metal album, as they don't follow the guitars' patterns for the whole duration of the CD, but instead tend to vary quite often.
Something that "Nattens Madrigal" has become particularly infamous for is the extreme lo-fi production, with the guitar sound consisting in too many highs and the axes placed far too high in the mix, drowning the rest of the instruments, especially the bass. It was reported that much of the money Century Media Records gave the band to record it, was spent on drugs, suits, and a car, with the rest used on the album itself, resulting in the rather poor production and mastering (the band has corroborated that this was partially, though not completely, true). Upon release of the album, Century Media created an advertising campaign that claimed it was recorded "in the middle of a forest"; this, in addition to "the big labels" signing Black Metal acts, in frontman Kristoffer Rygg's eyes, made Black Metal appear cheapened and gimmicky, and was enough for him to give up Black Metal entirely. Thankfully, the re-mastered version (available in vinyl) has almost solved the problem, as the new mix allows the bass and the vocals to be clearly heard, without depriving the guitars of that extremely raw and piercing sound that some may hate, or at least need some time to get accustomed to.
"Nattens Madrigal" is a must-have and an obliged listen for any Black Metal fan: it's raw, aggressive yet melodic, furious yet evocative, and makes up for a glorious conclusion for Ulver's Black Metal trilogy. Don't miss this album for any reason!

First re-release of the sixth full-length studio album by legendary Swedish Death Metal band.
"Hell's Unleashed" is maybe the perfect title for the first release after a five-year break from recording when it comes to Death Metal-pioneers. The album marks a turning-point in the band's career and is maybe the most underrated output up to date.
While most bands tend to strive for innovation and progression, Unleashed has never considered musical development a priority. These old-school Death Metallers have never changed much, and, as expected, "Hell's Unleashed" contains no surprises. What it does contain is fourteen tracks of groovy, old school Death Metal at it best!
Vocalist Johnny Hedlund's voice is very distinctive, mostly because he does more yelling than growling. The music is decent; they has done a new good rerecord. Displaying a Death Metal sound that can only be described as their very own, Unleashed envisions macabre rituals with Satan and other, lesser demons with undeniable joy. The remarkably heavy groove that highlights each and every song is unusual considering the genre Unleashed is thrown into, yet is evident on every count. Songs such as "Demoneater" and "Dissection Leftovers" paint morbid pictures in your imagination. "Hell's Unleashed" is exactly that, as the evil undertones prevail throughout this release and prove Unleashed is still finely in tune with their surroundings and continue reigning as one of the better Death Metal bands on the scene!!

First re-release of the fifth full-length studio album by legendary Swedish Death Metal band.
We had already noticed how the Unleashed sound changed a bit in the recent past with the "Victory" album, and this time this band is again on the borderline between the old school style and some more modern elements. However, the more modern parts are never too massive and annoying, but always quite veiled and not that exposed. That’s a better thing also because a band like Unleashed is famous for not having changed its style during the career, always following the Death Metal path. That could be a risky thing because sometimes no innovation leads to always weaker songwriting. However, this band was always able to release quite good efforts. 
“Warmachine” is short, massive and the good point is for the vocals: they have returned to that rough and growlish tonality, forgetting the more Hardcore touch of the recent past. “In Hellfire” shows, like in the past, more Thrash Metal elements, especially on the guitars palm muting. The tempo is quite slow but massive and epic. The refrain is well-stuck and recognizable, while the following “Mediawhore” is definitely faster. The power of the guitars is far more present and a second guitarist was needed in order to be stronger. The up tempo parts are flowing and the riffs are incredibly heavy, while we can find a quite good solo too. “Down Under the Ground” is slow, groovish but these elements do not add boredom to the sound and the epic elements are this time more present. “Death Metal Victory” is a true hymn by Unleashed and soon it destroys the mid-paced “My Life For You”. The tempo increase in speed and the chorus is epic enough to make scream an entire horde of warrior. Some Celtic Frost influences can be found on the slow and again epic “Hero of the Land” and this is actually very good. “Löngt Nid” is not spectacular on its slow march but it’s convincing once more and at least it’s epic and battling. The following “Born Deranged” is definitely faster with a long series of up tempo and tremolo pickings. The refrain is always well-audible and the riffs are catchy. The break by the middle displays and excellent, if not that technical or complex, work by the lead guitar in order to create a dark and utterly dramatic atmosphere. “I Have Returned” s probably the most boring and derivative track on this album. It’s lame and without ideas. The slow progression is continued with the darker “Ragnarök”. This time the lead guitar is better and the atmosphere is definitely black with some arpeggios too. “Your Pain Is My Gain” shows more dynamic structures to return to speed. The riffs are more Thrash Metal oriented and the modern elements are far more present here. The stop and go riffs by the guitars are not the best but it’s quite convincing. The same can be found on the last “The End”. This song has more or those stop and go riffs and the vocals show also more melodic passages.
All of Unleashed's albums are like that – they all sound more or less the same. Which on the one hand means they never progress, but on the other means they are always a reliable band for a decent Death Metal album!
This is definitely a better work by Unleashed and musthave for all oldschool Death Metal worshipers!!

The second full-length album by American AOR band.
Urgent gelled when Michael and Steve Kehr, formerly of Sterling, pulled other brother Don along for "Cast The First Stone", a great debut produced by the storied Ian Hunter. Hunter hauls old bro Mick Ronson, the guitarist from Hull, 'round again for Urgent's sophomore effort "Thinking Out Loud". Already jaded by the '80s, Hunter found the first album sessions to be a soulless experience, feeling records and radio were closed books. As a result, the royal duo's workload lightens to only co-authoring three tracks: "If This Is Love," "Inch by Inch", and "Pain (Love Is a Victim)" - the last intended for a future Hunter/Ronson project. Judas Priest helmsman Tom Allon handles production. Ensnaring no fanfare or air time, and lacking the snap of the first record, "Thinking Out Loud" disappeared instantly, along with Urgent, though the band maintains status in esoteric AOR circles.
However, this album has a good range. We can find very nice combination of tunes here, and be in love with tracks like "Running Back" for it's awesome keyboards and pre-chorus. "If This Is Love" is a great ballad. You'll can't forget the catchy "Give'em Enough Rope" for a great contributions. Still, this album is good one to have in your collection!

Compilation album of a New Wave of British bands playing New Wave of British Heavy Metal (NWOBHM).
Great Britain, the ostensible home of Heavy Metal, is spawning quality and varied acts ready to compete with the best of their neighbours. A younger generation, brought up with a broad knowledge of heavy music, have decided that they aren’t interested in pushing the boundaries of technique, production and extremity. Instead, these bucks seek only to find their own sound and write songs of the quality they grew up with on the family stereo. This passion for heavy music gives these ‘sons of their fathers’ the confidence to make exactly the music they want. Accusations and labels like ‘retro’ and ‘old school’ roll like water off a Metallic aquatic. If you plug away passionately for more or less ten years to tiny crowds with little or no support, it’s hard to engage with such negativity. And make no mistake, all of the acts here live and breathe this stuff. They’ve been playing since they were teens, you’ll see them front row at all the shows, and if no-one is offering gigs they’ll put them on themselves. And it’s no lie to say British had too much choice for this Steel platter. Their cup overfloweth! So is this a movement? Do we name it and define it? Nope, for to do so would allow us to dismiss it and this varied buffet is not going away. So let’s introduce the players... Amulet, Aggressive Perfector, Eliminator, Dungeon, Dark Forest, Toledo Steel, Vuil, Seven Sisters, Insurgency, Neuronspoiler and Wytch Hazel.
At first glance, it might seem that a compilation of bands dedicated solely to playing traditional NWOBHM would be rather limited and repetitive in content, but while none of the bands can truly compare to the acts they wish to emulate, there are many distinct and varied styles on display here. Of course, this means the chances are that not all the bands included will appeal to everyone at once, but those with at least a passing interest in the genre should definitely find something of value.

A tribute compilation album dedicated to the legendary American Hard Rock band Van Halen.
The first disc consists of solo works and duets of the band's musicians with other performers; the second disc consists entirely of cover versions of the band's songs.

Van Halen formed in 1974 but emerged in public view with the 1978 release of their self-titled debut album, which quickly established them as the hottest American Hard Rock band since Aerosmith. The band reinvigorated Hard Rock during a period of doldrums by bringing youthful, West Coast bravado and blistering virtuosity to the genre. They delivered their music with an unrelenting intensity and musicality that audiences devoured, launching them to superstardom and restoring Hard Rock to the forefront of the music scene.
After 30 years and 11 studio releases, four of which reached Number One, Van Halen has sold more than 56 million records in the U.S., which places them among the top 20 best-selling artists of all time.
Guitarist Eddie Van Halen redefined what the electric guitar could do, developing a blindingly fast technique with a variety of self-taught two-handed tapping, hammer-ons, pull-offs, and effects that mimicked the sounds of machines and animals. It was wildly inventive and over the top, equalled only by vocalist David Lee Roth, who brought the role of a Metal singer to near-performance art standards. Roth wasn't blessed with great technique, unlike Eddie, but he had a flair for showmanship derived as much from lounge performers as Robert Plant. Together, they made Van Halen into the most popular American Rock & Roll band of the late '70s and early '80s, and in the process set the template for Hard Rock and Heavy Metal for the '80s.

The seventh full-length studio album by legendary American Hard Rock band.
The first of four albums to be recorded with lead singer Sammy Hagar (former Montrose singer), who replaced David Lee Roth. The album named after Eddie Van Halen's home studio, 5150, in turn named after a California law enforcement term for a mentally disturbed person (a reference to Section 5150 of the California Welfare and Institutions Code).
"5150" was notable for a number of love songs and ballads, a contrast of the straightforward Rock stylings of the Roth era. Despite the controversy of replacing Roth, the album was band's first to top the Billboard 200. The album hit number 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, surpassing the band's previous album, "1984", which had peaked at number 2 behind Michael Jackson's "Thriller" album, on which Eddie Van Halen made a guest appearance. It was also Hagar's first #1, as stated by him on the "Live Without A Net" concert video. Album opener, "Good Enough", can be heard in the movie "Spaceballs".
Even with a new singer fronting the band and a new proclivity for synthesized sounds, Van Halen showed themselves ready as ever to turn up the amps and let it fly. "5150" was a party on a platter, as any Van Halen record should be!
