Brand new long-awaited opus by Sculptor, a master of dark and depressed moods. The album contains 1 instrumental track and 6 complete songs with the length varied from 10 to 17 minutes. Stylistically it is Death/Doom Metal with truly a funeral atmosphere which is rarely even in Funeral Doom Metal.
During the listening such length of tracks seems to be justified – the music abounds with dissonant acoustic interludes, powerful Death Metal riffs etc.
It is perhaps one of the darkest examples of Death Doom Metal with the original uncompromising mournful atmosphere!

The debut and only mini-album by Portuguese Gothic Doom Metal band.
The "Crestfallen" EP and "Serenades" saw the bleak sunlight during the years of 1992 and 1993, respectively, and were among the main reasons why many people started to listening Doom Metal. Since then, much has happened with their creators, Anathema, and with the Doom Metal scene. Those were the years of Katatonia's "Dance of December Souls" and My Dying Bride's "As the Flower Withers" and "Turn Loose the Swans". But things did change for all these bands. Sculpture have produced an MCD of which the few parts that don't sound either like the "Crestfallen" EP or "Serenades" tend to sound like Anathema's "Pentecost III" EP. This Portuguese band harvested the ideas found in Anathema's debut and, with a lot of merit and very good production, managed to create an impressive MCD that we can only see as a tribute to Anathema, such is the extent of the similarities. Every instrumental component is similar to early Anathema; so are the vocals and the song structures and style.
All three of the 'main' tracks on this MCD are indeed very good from start to finish, but we have to mention the excellent faster part in "Autumn Serenades", which reminded of "Under a Veil (of Black Lace)" from Anathema's "Serenades" - a proof of how enhanced the impact of a fast(er) section can be when surrounded by much slower music.
In fact, "Like A Dead Flower" is the best Portuguese Doom Metal album, slightly better than even Desire's "Infinity", even though much less original. Then again, if they had been more original then most likely this MCD wouldn't have been so good. Originality is hardly a problem when quality is so high and the sound Sculpture explore still has much more to give!

The first re-release of the fourth full-length studio album by cult Hungarian Atmospheric Black Metal band.
Sear Bliss take an Epic, moody Black Metal sound, adding keys and sometimes genuine wood instruments (the trombone, baritone, and tuba), to create a sound that is unique, but not excessively Avant-garde on "Forsaken Symphony". The album is filled with long songs, powerful riffs, and enough atmosphere to crush your lungs. On standouts like "My Journey To The Stars", "The Vanishing" and "The Forsaken" this band achieves the feat of being evocative, emotional, and vicious all at once. The visceral guitar tone is just the capped on the inventive and involving riffs this album is loaded with.
Any fan of Black or Pagan Metal should absolutely not miss this, as it is an underground gem of real Black Metal, and shows what kinds of power the genre is capable of when practiced by those who care about what they do.

The first re-release of the third full-length studio album by cult Hungarian Atmospheric Black Metal band.
A perfectly balanced Atmospheric Black Metal, with some exceptional monumental parts, with a lot of additional brass section and a great harsh, but clean and powerful sound, "Grand Destiny" belongs to the harshest sounding Sear Bliss albums. The production on it is quite clear, but with that Raw Black Metal touch, what makes it sound so damn good, a bit like Gehenna did on "Malice" maybe.
As always, Sear Bliss astonishes, for having a great ability to compose interesting and incredibly well-arranged songs. Every part of "Grand Destiny", from start to finish, is excellent and so the whole album has no downs, no fillers, no weak points. It is very damn close to perfection and for sure it is one of the best Black Metal albums from the early 2000s, from the Hungarian Epic Black Metal elite!

The debut full-length studio album by Italian Progressive Rock band.
Secret Alliance starts as a solo project of the Italian guitarist Gianluca Galli, known as a founder and former member of Mantra, Time Machine and Silver Horses. To help bring his songs to life, Galli recruited some top international players, including drummer Ricardo Confessori (Angra, Shaman), fretless bass player Tony Frankin (Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Whitesnake, Kate Bush, etc.), Chick Corea guitarist Frank Gambale, and Italian guitar virtuoso Alex Masi. Vocals provided by Silver Horses singer, Andrea Ranfagni.
"Solar Warden" explores the modern and classic Heavy Rock sound with some Progressive influences and perfect voice by Andrea Ranfagni. The songs have all a common line, a classic Hard 'N' Heavy Rock sound, where the guitar riffs are the columns of the songwriting. Musically speaking, and perhaps self-evident, Galli has built his songs around his guitar work. His riffs are rich and thick, creating a wall of sound; his leads abundant and soaring. These things wrapped in arrangements of Heavy Rock with Prog and some Blues nuances. Vocalist has a clear and assertive presence without going screaming. Rather, his voice has some passion, even some of that Blues vibe.
Essentially, with Secret Alliance and "Solar Warden", talented guitarist Gianluca Galli has created a platform for his own performance. If you like guitar, Heavy and somewhat Proggy Rock, you will enjoy this album!

The debut full-length album by American Progressive Black/Doom Metal band.
Projecting a unique brand of cinematic, cerebral, Atmospheric Metal with a persuasion towards Doom Metal and even more Blackened influences citing The Ocean, Opeth, Isis, Agalloch and others, on "To Sail Black Waters", California’s ambidextrous collective make contributions with multiple instruments, layering synth/keys, violins and an array of vocal styles atop the crushing rhythm section and massive triple guitar attack. The booming, pristine production of the album magnifies the band’s power with impeccable clarity, the outcome of a massive spread-out eight month period of recording sessions at Trident Studios with engineer/producer Juan Urteaga (Testament, Machine Head, Cattle Decapitation).
The Oakland based sextet takes what is a great but tired genre and adds a dash of Black Metal and a bit of Prog. Imagine if you tossed Neurosis, more recent Immortal, and Porcupine Tree into a blender. Sounds like a f**ked up mix, right? It's an awesome f**ked up mix though! "The Sail Black Waters" consists of 4 tracks that are rooted in Sludge, that manage to take twists and turns throughout it's all-too-short forty-one minute run-time. There are moments of dreamy soundscapes, harmonized clean vocals, and crescendos aplenty.
A band they bring to mind is the Australian Black Metal band Ne Obliviscaris. They don't necessarily sound alike, especially because Secrets Of The Sky simple aren't playing as fast, but their progressions are quite similar. Also, Secrets happen to employ a violin as one of the several talents of vocalist Garett Gazay. Their use of it is much more subtle than Ne Obliviscaris to the point where it becomes a game listening for it.
Despite having songs averaging longer than ten minutes, Secrets makes each memorable, or at least distinguishable, by changing its formula from piece to piece. Gazay throws clean vocals in the mix alongside his growls and hollow rasp on “Decline”, while power-chord riffing gives way to dissonant harmonics. “Sunrise”, whose initial riff perhaps falls short of the rest, is buoyed by a pair of perfectly placed and uplifting (as Doom Metal goes) choruses. While Ryan Healy’s bass playing is audible throughout, he never really makes his presence known until the title track; “Black Waters”, however opens with a bass riff taken straight from John Williams’ nightmares, as if to signify that this is the album’s climax. Indeed, everything about “Black Waters” screams of an ending, down to its chanted chorus of. After pounding through those titular stormy waters for ten minutes, the song gives way to a haunting refrain that closes the album perfectly.
Secrets Of The Sky isn’t doing anything revolutionary yet, but based on the early returns that’s probably for the best – it’s nice to hear a band focused on getting the finer points of its craft right instead of trying to invent a new one. As a whole, the songwriting on "To Sail Black Waters" is well-balanced and understated in the way that made bands like Neurosis legends. While that may be setting an awfully high bar, Secrets Of The Sky already has a strong foundation and an album that gets better with each listen. 
"To Sail Black Waters" is among the more eminently listenable Doom/Sludge Metal efforts of the year! For fans of: The Ocean, Opeth, Isis, and Agalloch!!

Imagine that you are walking in a dense forest, you hear the sweet singing of birds, the rustle of grass, breeze, sounds of the forest charming mellifluous. Then, you begin to realize that got lost. Desperately trying to find a way out of this terrible maze, you begin to realize that all this time someone is watching you. And that someone - a psychopathic maniac who begins to haunt you under threat of death. You find yourself trapped. "What next?" - You ask. And then - full of unpredictable and unexpected outcome of events, because on "E.A.R.T.H." we are faced with a frenzy of Thrash, Death Metal and Grindcore lightning speed, Black Metal gashes, electronic samples, sounds "live" nature and Pagan inserts expressed Folk instruments. This is the Sectorial methods of influence on the earth and the environment!
Lads excellent embark into the depths of the experiments and the impression that on the album they use whatever comes to hand, you might think even including cans, bottles etc. Moreover, without compromising the integrity of the melodies and songs, which on release already turned 20 (including a cover version of American Phobia)! Drum set just seething with prohibitively high speed, track by track burns with a bright flame. In all of this observed surprising harmony, well -built light line across the base of tools and tooth-crushing parties, no extra, but do not feel that something is missing. All weighed with amazing accuracy, well, just like at the pharmacy. With all the chaos undoubtedly present on the album, you can hear absolutely everything separately - is another positive phase of "E.A.R.T.H.".

Re-release of the third full-length album by the French AOR band.
Westcoast AOR always enjoyed great popularity in France, the native country of Sedona. The members of the band are accomplished instrumentalists, who also know how to sing those typical Westcoast harmonies.
Westcoast style AOR is something of a rarity these days, so big thumbs up in the direction of Avenue Of Allies for taking risks and putting out albums in this style. It’s nice to still hear bands performing and creating this style of very Soft Rock, in an era where every musician in Rock is compelled to get heavier in order to appeal to a wider audience.
"Golden Valley" is actually a re-issue, originally released in 1995 the bands third but first in English album. The re-issue is actually a taster and pre-cursor to the bands upcoming all new album due late 2010.
Not really an instant album, but it is damn good after you listen to the album a few times and really become attuned to the songs subtle hooks and power. This is great music to relax to and fantastic inoffensive good feeling background music. Many films of 80s era would use music like this throughout to emphasize whatever was going on in a scene to great effect, especially if you listen to just the music and try to zone the vocals out.
This is a great west coast album and definitely one for fans of the genre to check out and enjoy! This album will really wet your appetite for their upcoming new album as well. Smooth west coast AOR with a summery and atmospheric vibe, a perfect album for those summer barbeques!!

Debut EP by Greek Power/Gothic Metal band.
This debut EP from Greek melodic rockers Seed Of Sadness will perhaps capture most people’s attention because of the contribution of Firewind/Outland keyboardist/guitarist Bob Katsionis, who also mixed the five tracks on this self-released and self-titled opus. Hopefully Katsionis’ presence and contribution will help to bring some most deserved attention to this rather pleasant little offering, at it is as fine a slice of melodic Euro Metal as you are going to find around at the moment. While the keyboards are overly prominent in some places, they by and large combine with the excellent guitar work of Jimmy Nore, who weaves some interesting musical landscapes across the rock solid foundation created by bassist Mike G and drummer Johnny K, who both do their jobs with consummate ability. The standout contribution, however, is that of Stellaria, who has a rich voice, resonant, powerful and melodic, deeper than many of her contemporaries but eminently suited to the material, particularly on heavier moments such as “Is This The Way”, although she also pulls off quieter passages, such as “The Final Dance” with equal conviction.
The songs, in their basic structure, are played with both ability and passion and the performances have enough conviction in them to warrant not only returning to this particular EP but also to whet the appetite for the inevitable follow up.

The fifth full-length studio album by legendary Finnish Melancholic Gothic Metal band.
The first album with bassist Sami Kukkohovi after former bassist/vocalist Taneli Jarva's departure, 1998's "Frozen" was a natural follow-up to the previous record, "Down", and captures the band as they explore their Melancholy Dark Rock/Metal path with strong, memorable songs that nevertheless retain a distinct sense of atmosphere.
With "Frozen", Sentenced align their Melodic Metal sound with the Gothic sounds of bands like Tiamat, Moonspell, and Paradise Lost. Returning to Woodhouse Studios with producer Waldemar Sorychta (Tiamat, Moonspell, Lacuna Coil, Samael) and try to perfect their trade, the band put forth a chilling collection of Melancholic Metal.
Although structures remain for the most part basic variations, layering of additional instrumentation augment them enough to give context to the glimpses of underlying structure granted by Black Sabbath-style epiphanies built into the apex of each song's evolution. Expert Blues lead guitar gives way periodically to some cliché-ridden complexes of tangential riffing, but mostly articulates a careful path of manipulation of the vital emotions encoded within the Blues. A reasonable comparison might be drawn to later Iron Maiden. While the essence of this music is not necessarily any massive deviation from the historical capacity of Rock n Roll, and while it is far from Death Metal, Sentenced's "Frozen" still manages to wrest some quality Heavy Metal from the background of cheese into which it could easily be absorbed, and for that gets credit from every Metal fan!

The first re-release of the first EP by legendary Finnish Melodic Death Metal band.
Every Melodic Death Metal band has covered an Iron Maiden song or two. And Sentences made this much faster than the original, with the raspy vocals power that the original lacked. The nicest part is that in some parts they have clean in the background, to keep the original vocal melodies intact. It's great! They nail the solo, even speed it up. In fact, the entire song is so much f***ing faster that it's a minute shorter than the original. Also, as you listen to the vocals, it sounds like Sentenced is having an f***ing blast playing this song. And you'll get a lot of fun listening to it!
"Desert by Night" is an awesome piece of early Melodic Death Metal with some Progressive and Thrash Metal influence that characterizes At The Gates, and more overt melody more commonly used by early Dark Tranquillity and In Flames. And it's great! Absolutely beautiful piano outro too.
"In Memorium" is a remastered track from the "Journey To Pohjola" demo that was released between "Shadows Of The Past" and "North From Here". It is raw and brutal, with deep vocals (like the debut), but has some melody of the second album.
"Awaiting The Winter Frost" is a song from "North From Here", and a good addition to the EP. It starts with some Folkish acoustic accompanied by haunting keyboard, before speeding up and going into Metal.
Tracks 1-3 are the demo "Journey To Pohjola" (1992), added to this re-release as a bonus.
All tracks are recorded at Tico-Tico Studios (Sonata Arctica, Wintersun, Impaled Nazarene) with Ahti Kortelainen, Finland 1992 – 1993. Booklet and original artwork are completely restored by ACW (Pestilence, Tiamat, Ceremonial Oath).
If you're a fan of Melodeath, or just Death Metal in general, check out some early Sentenced. This is a good EP to sample for it!
