Every Melodic Death Metal band has covered an Iron Maiden song or two. And Sentences made this much faster than the original, with the raspy vocals power that the original lacked. The nicest part is that in some parts they have clean in the background, to keep the original vocal melodies intact. It's great! They nail the solo, even speed it up. In fact, the entire song is so much f***ing faster that it's a minute shorter than the original. Also, as you listen to the vocals, it sounds like Sentenced is having an f***ing blast playing this song. And you'll get a lot of fun listening to it!
"Desert by Night" is an awesome piece of early Melodic Death Metal with some Progressive and Thrash Metal influence that characterizes At The Gates, and more overt melody more commonly used by early Dark Tranquillity and In Flames. And it's great! Absolutely beautiful piano outro too.
"In Memorium" is a remastered track from the "Journey To Pohjola" demo that was released between "Shadows Of The Past" and "North From Here". It is raw and brutal, with deep vocals (like the debut), but has some melody of the second album.
"Awaiting The Winter Frost" is a song from "North From Here", and a good addition to the EP. It starts with some Folkish acoustic accompanied by haunting keyboard, before speeding up and going into Metal.
Tracks 1-3 are the demo "Journey To Pohjola" (1992), added to this re-release as a bonus.
All tracks are recorded at Tico-Tico Studios (Sonata Arctica, Wintersun, Impaled Nazarene) with Ahti Kortelainen, Finland 1992 – 1993. Booklet and original artwork are completely restored by ACW (Pestilence, Tiamat, Ceremonial Oath).

The first album with bassist Sami Kukkohovi after former bassist/vocalist Taneli Jarva's departure, 1998's "Frozen" was a natural follow-up to the previous record, "Down", and captures the band as they explore their Melancholy Dark Rock/Metal path with strong, memorable songs that nevertheless retain a distinct sense of atmosphere.
With "Frozen", Sentenced align their Melodic Metal sound with the Gothic sounds of bands like Tiamat, Moonspell, and Paradise Lost. Returning to Woodhouse Studios with producer Waldemar Sorychta (Tiamat, Moonspell, Lacuna Coil, Samael) and try to perfect their trade, the band put forth a chilling collection of Melancholic Metal.
Although structures remain for the most part basic variations, layering of additional instrumentation augment them enough to give context to the glimpses of underlying structure granted by Black Sabbath-style epiphanies built into the apex of each song's evolution. Expert Blues lead guitar gives way periodically to some cliché-ridden complexes of tangential riffing, but mostly articulates a careful path of manipulation of the vital emotions encoded within the Blues. A reasonable comparison might be drawn to later Iron Maiden. While the essence of this music is not necessarily any massive deviation from the historical capacity of Rock n Roll, and while it is far from Death Metal, Sentenced's "Frozen" still manages to wrest some quality Heavy Metal from the background of cheese into which it could easily be absorbed, and for that gets credit from every Metal fan!
