First EP by Finnish Thrash Metal band.
National Napalm Syndicate (or just N.N.S., as they were also known) was one of the first Finnish Speed/Thrash Metal bands to emerge in the first wave of this particular genre, back in 1986, along with A.R.G., Stone, Airdash, Warmath, Protected Illusion, Oppression, Terrific Verdict and a few others. With different line-ups, they have recorded three full-length studio albums, two split-releases as well as six demos!
Lex Talionis is a 5-track EP from these northernmost napalm syndicates and it introduces a new line-up and a couple of new cuts, plus a couple of cover songs and even an old song taken from the band's 1988 demo. Three of the original members remain: Aku Raaska on vocals, Jukka Kyrö on guitar and Pasi Pauanne on drums (who quit after the band's 1989 debut).
The boys in N.N.S. still know how to Thrash! The older they get, the angrier they become, it seems. "The Church of the Rat" is basically a straightforward, in-your-face Thrash Metal song, going for your throat like a vicious hungry beast after fresh meat. "Planet Satan" is clearly the better of the two new songs. It is more advanced and complex - and heavy as f**k. As for the covers, both bands Vivisektio and KTMK were popular Hardcore-Punk bands, back in the 80s, which came from the Northern part of Finland just like N.N.S. "My Pudasjärvi" (Pudasjärvi is the town where N.N.S. is from) is obviously Nuclear Assault's "My America" but just with a modified title. It's been recorded on a 4-track and it sounds like it.
Semi-legendary Finnish Thrashers N.N.S. are back and time will tell if the wait will be worth it. This EP has relatively optimistic!

The fourth full-length album by Swedish Atmospheric Folk/Viking/Black Metal one-man band.
Nattsmyg have changed their game with this album, the more rustic ventures that precede sound almost clumsy in comparison and in the event, categorization has become more difficult. The Folk/Viking influence of previous works is less obvious as “Fylgja” wafts across a number of borders, you'll need to sink all your darts in the genre dartboard to be able to put your finger anywhere near a definition of the sound. The vocals, both the dream state female and the snarling male that are pushed to the fore on this album. Linn Carlshaf stand for the beautiful female vocals and Dan Heikenberg for the raw vocals. The music itself tends to be a canvas upon which they paint their picture. The beastly side of the vocals aren't used as a counterpoint apart from when they join together, whereupon the juxtaposition works well, more usually they are separated by an instrumental bridge so that they stand on their own ground. There are sections of strong male clean singing too.
Whilst the music is used to carry the vocals, it is by no means buried; it just tends to flow below them. There are varying dynamics at play, at times progress is sprightly but more often the instrumentation ripples along like wheat in a breeze. The atmosphere conjured is one that suggests a fantasy film score, there is an epic nature to it and drama drips from most of these songs, pastoral pictures are painted and when the ordnance is brought out by way of thumping bass drum and juddering guitar, those rolling hills are broken by majestic mountains. The compositions sound quite simple at first listen but this is a foil, repetition quickly reveals an undercurrent eddying with embellishment. Often this comes courtesy of the keyboards that add in woodwind melodies that take you back to less complicate times and that add warmth to an album that already has a glow.
To remind you that this is a Metal album, the guitar maintains a presence. Whilst the drums never attempt to steal the show, they often introduce a persistent pummel, especially when accompanying the moments when the guitar becomes more insistent. Ultimately, the Metal is never far away.
A well-produced album that includes both English and Swedish lyrics. “Fylgja” has a magic of its own, it will certainly appeal to more than just Metalheads!

The third full-length album by Italian Modern Gothic Rock/Metal band.
This band has left behind the Glam Metal, and has started to mix something a little more strange, making a statement that they do not want to be classified in just one style, they want to be their own style, even when that is indeed the new fashion in music industry.
“Addicted To decadence” is a mixture of Metal, Gothic and Rock elements, not to mention that Scandinavian air the band has been breathing for years. The album was produced in Göteborg at the Arnold Lindberg's studio (In Flames, Hardcore Superstar, Evergrey). The production is perfect; all the instruments are heard in a spectacular way, the synthesizers are very well produced, making that Scandinavian atmosphere, with a little joy, catchiness and sometimes cheesy parts, the musical part, is normal, nothing to highlight, not because they do this bad, but the musical complex they choose is made for that: for a whole, not for parts, and even if it is very commercial, sounds good and is very well done.
This is an album you could prove, it may not be life changing, but surely will make you pass a good time, guaranteed!

The second full-length studio album legendary the Scottish Hard Rock.
Although their music is most accurately described as "Blues-tinged Hard Rock" (CD liner notes), this record is quite far from the band's more standard fare, featuring, quite surprisingly, a number of acoustic arrangements, several songs with orchestral strings, and traditional Scottish airs. The band was known for being a pure, powerful Hard Rock band in concert and on later releases, but on this album they decided to abandon the riff-heavy guitar assault they showcased as a live act. "Exercises" is a collection of mostly acoustic tracks with lush harmonies and little sign of the driving in-your-face Rock that they showcased on their debut, "Nazareth". On tracks like "Madelaine" and "In My Time", the band comes across more like laid-back English Pop balladeers Badfinger than their real contemporaries like Deep Purple and Thin Lizzy.
There are a few strong moments on the album. "Woke Up This Morning" is a strong track that provides a Bluesy vocal performance by Dan McCafferty, driving rhythm, and some great slide guitar work by Manny Charlton. "Called Her Name" is another song where the listener will find the band hitting full stride and sounding much more comfortable. The album's "1692 (Glen Coe Massacre)" is about a real incident in Scottish history, namely, the massacre of Glencoe. The album is also significant for its Roy Thomas Baker production—only his third project, and well before his breakthrough works with Queen in the mid-seventies—and its oddly 'new wave' cover-art. An early version of the "Razamanaz" song, "Woke Up This Morning", also makes an appearance on Side 1.
Fortunately, with the help of Deep Purple bassist/producer Roger Glover, the band managed to return to their Hard Rock style and finally captured their live sound on their follow-up album, 1973's "Razamanaz", which cemented their reputation as an upper-echelon Hard Rock act of the '70s.

The fourth re-release of the eighth full-length studio album by legendary Scottish Hard Rock band.
"Play 'N' The Game" found Nazareth continuing in the AOR direction they established with "Close Enough For Rock 'N' Roll". Like that album, it trades the driving Rock that made the group famous for an experimental sound that toys with several musical genres.
For instance, "Down Home Girl" is a stab at Southern Rock, and the band's cover of the Beach Boys classic "Wild Honey" slows down that song's tempo to create an effects-laden Psychedelic atmosphere. Elsewhere, the group covers the Hard Rock bases with "Someone to Roll" and "Born to Love", a pair of energetic, guitar-driven Rockers that would have fit in fine on "Razamanaz" or "Loud & Proud". They also cross-breed the energy of these tracks with Pop hooks on "L.A. Girls", a nimble bit of Pop/Rock fusion where speedy guitar riffs duke it out a with handclap-driven Pop song beat. However, the undeniable highlights of "Play 'N' The Game" are its ballads: "I Want to Do Everything for You" is a promise of eternal love built on a swinging and pleasingly earthy bass groove and "I Don't Want to Go on Without You" is a moody tale of lost love that shows off Manny Charlton's ability to craft the soft but powerful guitar riffs necessary for a good power ballad.
This album benefits from a more consistent overall sound than "Close Enough For Rock 'n' Roll", but its shifts in tone are too abrupt for their own good, making the proceedings come off as a loose collection of songs instead of a fully conceived album. Despite this problem, "Play 'N' The Game" is an effective slice of AOR that will please the Nazareth fan base!

Debut full-length album by Argentinean Thrash Metal band.
One of the most representative bands from the Argentinean Metal scene!
Modern choppy Thrash mixing heavy and faster passages in almost equal dozes, but the attempts to blend both styles into one song, ruins the energetic tone of some of them.
In the 2nd half the guys apparently get tired and slide down to more repetitive, mid-paced formulas. "Marcado En Tu Piel" would be a rude awakening being a much more energetic thrasher, except for the balladic stretch in the middle; which carries the force after it sweeping the next "Gran Herida", another vigorous piece, and partially the closing "Penumbras" which at some point introduces the characteristic pounding riffage of late-80's Slayer before the infectious galloping riffs wrap it up nicely later on.
The classic shadow of Thrash is felt here and there, apparently provided by Fabian Ruiz, the Paganos guitarist, who may bring more retro moments for the future, if staying longer with the band.
100% recommended for fans of: Sepultura, Pantera and Lamb of God!!

The third full-length album by Swedish Gothic Extreme Metal band.
Gothic Melodic Death Metal with Doom, Folk, and Black touch!
Necroart are an Avant-Garde Extreme Metal outfit hailing from Pauia. They aim to infuse Swedish Death Metal with some old-school Black Metal sounds.
The album is set out from a horror story, an idea that occurred to Necroart several years ago as a good topic on which to write an album.
The album begins at the outset with the title track “Lamma Sabactani” which starts with a dark, eerie tone set by a deep, low drumming and something that sounds like keys rattling in the background. The storyline begins sounding like something like the Creation story from the Bible. “On the first day…” and then “On the second day”… but the Creation events are replaced with dark, creepy events that happen as the story begins. Combined with the creepy events, the music is a terrifying sound that sounds like something out of a horror novel. This is a theme continues throughout the album.
The second track on the album titled “Magma Flows” is an introduction to the idea of magma overflowing on to the planet, and destroying everything in its path. This track sounds very similar to the Metal outfit hailing from Olso, Norway called Dimmu Borgir’s 2010 release “Abrahadabra”, and the vocals of Max sounds similar to that of Shagrath. Both have similar, crushing Black Metal sounds that have been heard for decades around the world, while sparing no ears with crushing riffs and bone-crunching drumbeats.
Crushing drumbeats and smashing guitar riffs continue with songs including “The Demiurge” and “Agnus Dei”, as it talks about the person who created this entire “game” that is part of this story, and how he is the one controlling all of these various mechanisms that control how the “game” comes out. No one is innocent in this game, and no one hides from the destruction that befalls mankind in this game...
The album closes with the final track “Cyanide & Mephisto” which ends the entire thing as there are screams echoing in the background while the announcer states that there is no hope for the world it get out of the mess it is in now.
All in all, very positive album in musical and other specters and its recommended for fans of Gothic, Doom and Melodic Death Metal fans!

What was astonishing back then as it is now is the fact that they use 8-string bass instead of electric guitars, which makes their sound unique and immediately recognizable. Having said that, their sound is let down by production by means of timing and quality output leading to a mediocre result.
Necromantia's use of keyboards and spoken parts come to their rescue as they add to the atmosphere, making the production's defects non-important. Tracks like "Lord of the Abyss", "The Warlock" and "Last Song for Valderie" will make the hair on your backbone rise, even though at some parts this seems to take place in expense of technique and variety.
"Crossing The Fiery Path" is an album that is definitely worth your attention! Check out also the bonus track which is a cover of Omen's "Death Rider"!!
