Mustasch is back on track with their fourth album (and the third full-length), after venturing out with a different producer for "Ratsafari" a couple of years back. "Powerhouse" is indeed just that, chock-full of fat riffs and great production values with a big, mammoth sound and the best set of Mustasch songs to date!
From the immense, chugging riff that opens this newbie with "Haunted By Myself", to the Sabbathy "Frosty White", to the catchy melodrama of "Dogwash", to the strong title track, to the most commercially-accessible, albeit Poppish and Rocking track "I'm Alright", Powerhouse is a keeper! There is very little in the way of mid-level chunks in the stew, as the slower and perhaps somewhat weaker numbers are strategically placed as not to affect the flow of things.
Anyone who likes big, fat, macho Rock with heavyweight riffs and upper echelon vibes, should check this out! Even if the band's vocalist sounds like a stunt double for Ian Astbury from The Cult, you can't go wrong with "Powerhouse". Excellent stuff!!
The album peaked at number 10 on the Swedish charts.

The second EP by Spanish Thrash Metal band.
Mutant Squad have been playing old school 80s - early 90s Thrash Metal since 2007. And now they're the most recognizable Thrash Metal act hailing from Galicia (Spain). The band initially was called Vael, but shortly name was changed to Mutant Squad. The eleventh full-length album by the legendary British Doom Metal band.
This album is a development of many of My Dying Bride's older musical themes and riffs, which were re-written for a variety of classical instruments, rather than the traditional Metal music instruments; these riffs were combined with new vocals and music, thus creating a release characteristic of both a studio album and a compilation.

The idea for "Evinta" dates back to the mid-1990s, when Martin Powell was still in the band; however, the idea was shelved when Powell left both due to the lack of a violin in the band and also due to the possibility that a release of this kind would seem exceptionally pretentious, coming from a band who had been around for merely five years. Once a violinist returned, however, and the band had gained more experience, they began to work on "Evinta" with an aim of releasing in October 2010, to celebrate the band's 20th anniversary. However, this was later pushed back to "until it's ready".
Unlike your regular My Dying Bride record, this time, the band dropped all the guitars, drums and bass, and based their idea on orchestrations (provided by Johnny Maudling of Bal-Sagoth fame), synths, some electronic stuff here and there, and of course, Aaron’s voice helped by the French soprano singer Lucie Roche. Throughout the album, you’ll be hearing tunes that go from “As the Flower Withers” to “For Lies I sire”. It’s quite difficult to point out any track, since the whole is greater than the sum of its parts, however they all share some of the most beautiful and shivering moments, as well as some parts that drag, but after all it's My Dying Bride we’re talking about.
Whether you like it or not, you’ll realize that the Metal elements are not by all means necessary to achieve the band’s goal, of delivering a magnificent dark opera. It’s also quite interesting to hear familiar melodies, and try to identify which original song it belongs to.
More than just a regular “best of”, what we have here is simply daring. A unique opportunity, with absolutely no sequel, for the band to present us something special to celebrate their existence!!

The third full-length album by Finnish Thrash Metal band.
The band is really a Technical Thrash Metal band than anything else. Right from the fast-paced riffs, to the solos to the drum blast beats, everything on offer is just heaven for Thrash fans. The band does fall short of getting the backing vocals right, leading to a pale anthemic feel of the songs which could have been so much better with different style and better production - but the solo screams by Sepponen are commendable.
The album takes off right from the first song “Violence Academy”. “Violence For Violence” really is one of the better songs on offer here as the riffs come is a beautiful rhythmic way with a complex song writing displayed here, as the song moves into a low tempo mode in the middle, building the tension in an intriguing way before going back to the heavy riffage mode, all without sounding anything Progressive, clearly displaying the potential and talent of the musicians involved here.
“Unknown Abyss” starts with a distinct guitar work. The clean vocals here make the vocals catchier and even hummable. Both “Thrash on Your Grave” and “Speed of Death” starts with a tasty solo before going mayhem. The album finishes off with another song “Too Drunk to Thrash” filled with sea of sharp bullet like riffs, though nothing out of the world or even different compared to what has been on offer so far. It’s got the party lyrics which has become a cult in Thrash scene since the emergence of bands like Municipal Waste.
The sound of My Funeral can be compared to Artillery and a bit of Slayer due to the distinctive guitar sound. While the sound eliminates the comparisons with Bay Area or Teutonic Thrash, it does have shades of the former. All in all it’s a short album of just under 34 minutes and its worth your time, and both the guitarists here deserve a special mention for creating that ear piercing sound!!

My Sixth Shadow was born from the remains of The Masquarade. "Love-Fading Innocence is the first "real" album from My Sixth Shadow, since the band regards their previous "10 Steps 2 Your Heart" record only as a preview of the real debut album.
The music of My Sixth Shadow is a mix of Atmospheric Metal, Darkwave and Modern Metal. The lyrical concepts on this album revolve around love. Thus the description on the press sheet is touché: "A Passionate & Romantic Mix of Dark Emotions & Atmospheres". One of the strengths of My Sixth Shadow is their somewhat diverse compositions that contain astute rhythmic ideas and impressive melodies. Also their use of background vocals is successful. These background vocals are mostly performed in the atmospheric vein of Devon Graves.
My Sixth Shadow is definitely a band worth checking out in case you listen to Atmospheric Metal!
Staying faithful to the lyrical concepts behind this album, the band has even included a cover of U2's "With or Without You" to the end of the album!!

Debut full-length album by Alternative Hard Rock trio from  Ontario, Canada.
MTR very ably play dark ’90s alternative rock in the vein of Tool, Filter, Deftones. If you own material by any of those bands, you’ll probably find MTR’s sound immediately familiar, from the melodic yet affected vocals to the chunky yet progressive riffs.
There’s no lack of polish here. Singer Bill Dupuis and guitarist Glen Latouf especially deserve kudos for many compelling, well-executed moments on these 12 tracks. But there’s a sameness to some of the songs, and people who were never into the aforementioned bands may find MTR’s esthetic wearyingly dated. That said, this is a solid debut for fans  of Tool, Filter, Deftones.

On their second album, band offered up a mix of classic Metal sounds and distinctive Power Metal. Here, they offer the same as on debut album, but embellish their sound with more keyboard and orchestral sounds.
The band is clearly in thrall to the classic era of Metal. There are plenty of odes to Judas Priest, Diamond Head and there is certainly a touch of Bruce Dickinson's rangy howl on certain songs, particularly “Abyssal March”.
Overall, this album has plenty of positives. There are sparks of originality, but at times, it’s classic Power Metal by numbers.

Mystagog was formed in 2006 by two well-known and genuine Hungarian underground musicians: Angmar the vocalist of Witchcraft, Hell and Diecold is responsible for the vocals and the drums while the guitars and the bass are handled by Grave (aka Thanatos) who can be familiar from the releases of Thy Funeral, Spuolus, 666 and Diecold.
With underground production and demented sounding songs, this band is definitely in the low-stream of the Black Metal community. If you dig that aged Black Metal sound, then here is a band you can look forward to hearing more from!

The fourth full-length album by the German Power/Speed/Thrash Metal band.
There comes a point in the timeline of a band where it has to prove whether it's got what it takes to make the breakthrough into the major league or if it'll stick in a semi-famous condition.
Mystic Prophecy has already released three albums. They always included well played classic Power Metal, definitely U.S. oriented, but they lacked of something extra to push them over the top. Last year was a hard one for the band of vocalist R.D. Liapakis. Lots of people left the band. First came the departure of guitar virtuoso Gus G. (Firewind, ex-Dream Evil), then followed by drummer Dennis Ekdahl. They were replaced by two guitar players Markus Pohl (Symphorce) and Martin Grimm (Headstone Epitaph). Though this dynamic duo is not as flashy as Mr. G., they manage to nail down some ultra furious guitar playing. The new drummer was found in the face of Matthias Straub (Sacred Steel).
Pulverizing bass sound and annihilating mid-ranging guitars. Damn, these guys sound heavier than many Death Metal bands (have you noticed that a lot of new Death Metal bands sound like they're having a Power Metal production?)! Then we have the compositions. Liapakis has done a fantastic work this time combining European and (mostly) U.S. sound / techniques than he has ever done in the past. From the ultra furious "Shadows Beyond My Soul", up to "In The Darkness", the way this band combines aggression with melody is stunning. All these elements are really nicely balanced, making the listening of the album a very interesting experience.
It was about time for Mr. Liapakis to offer us such a good album! Fans of Heavy f*****g Metal will fall in love with this one!!

The band lists Dream Theater as one of their influences but I think this is much heavier owing more to thrash bands of the past. One of the strongest points of the band is vocalist Vladimir Georgiev. He's got great power and is never overwhelmed by the heaviness or complexity of the music.

The second full-length album by Italian Avant-garde Black Metal band.
Active from 1994, one of the oldest Black Metal bands from Italy come back 5 years after last album!
The concept of “Chthonian Theogony” may be seen as a union of opposites, as an hermetic sum aimed at combining what’s above with what’s below, the dark, primordial, chthonian energies of the earth and of the night – sonically depicted by the use of percussions, dissonances, by the most extreme rhythms and by the most ritualistic ambient soundscapes – with a transcendent sense of grandeur and majesty, embodied by the bombastic orchestrations, by the lyricism of guitar solos, by a thoughtful and original use of synthesizers, not to mention the veritable Progressive spirit that permeates the whole songwriting.
As for the music, the band hails from we have here an elegant and exquisite Black Metal that sounds very polished, featuring interesting and exciting riffs. There’s also a ritualistic feeling when the music gets slower, but the album feels very epic, symphonic and exciting. We can hear a bit of the mystical phase of Emperor here, and, consequently, "Chthonian Theogony" sounds very esoteric and mystical. The experimentation (since the band is Avant-garde) is very well-done; you clearly feel that they just don’t throw weird elements to sound different. The music is diverse, energetic, and sublime. You have to let yourself in, merging with the sound they created, as it is indeed a different and impressive journey!
There are chants, whispers, clean and growls as backing vocals and the harsh, powerful and unique main vocals fit the music beautifully and are used as a complement of the music, of the atmosphere they create. The instrumentals sound actually alluring and at the same time eerie and the Jazzy elements add more uniqueness to this album. The combination between the fast and the slower parts are simply amazing. Clocking a little over one hour, there are absolutely no fillers; all the songs sound great and the instrumental ones are there to build the mystical and esoteric feeling. Really, this album sounds freaking awesome!! About the production, it is top-notch, nothing to complain about, but rather to praise!!!
