"MDNA" was Madonna's first release under the 360 deal she had signed with Live Nation in 2007 and the three-album deal with Interscope in 2012. 
A Pop and Electronic Dance Music (EDM) record, "MDNA" consists of upbeat songs which lyrically explore themes of partying, love for music, infatuation, as well as heartbreak, revenge and separation. The album's title is a triple entendre and its allusion to "MDMA" drew negative reception from anti-drug groups.
Music critics were ambivalent towards the album. They praised Orbit's production and the ballads, but criticized the lyrics as well as Madonna for being regressive with her music. "MDNA" topped the record charts in most musical markets. Madonna set a new record for the most number-one albums by a solo artist in Australia and the United Kingdom. "MDNA" was the twelfth best-selling album of 2012 globally, and went on to sell two million copies.

Her collaboration with producers Mirwais Ahmadzaï and William Orbit resulted a more experimental direction for the album. Filled with vocoders, stylish Neo-Electro beats, dalliances with Trip-Hop, and, occasionally, eerie synthesized atmospherics, "Music" blows by in a kaleidoscopic rush of color, technique, style, and substance. It has so many layers that it's easily as self-aware and earnest as "Ray Of Light", where Madonna's studiousness complemented a record heavy on spirituality and reflection. Here, she mines that territory occasionally, especially as the record winds toward its conclusion, but she applies her new tricks toward celebrations of music itself. That's not only true of the full-throttle dance numbers but also for ballads like "I Deserve It" and "Nobody's Perfect", where the sentiments are couched in Electronic effects and lolling, rolling beats. Ultimately, that results in the least introspective or revealing record Madonna has made since "Like A Prayer", yet that doesn't mean she doesn't invest herself in the record. Working with a stable of producers, she has created an album that is her most explicitly musical and restlessly creative since, "Like A Prayer". Whenever she works with Mirwais, Music truly comes alive with the spark and style.
The album was supported by the Drowned World Tour, which grossed over $75.000.000, making it the highest-grossing tour by a solo act of 2001 (the fourth overall).
Three singles were released from the album. Its lead single, "Music", topped the record charts in 25 countries worldwide and became Madonna's 12th number-one hit on the Billboard Hot 100. It was followed with another Hot 100 top-five hit "Don't Tell Me" and "What It Feels Like for a Girl" which attained the top-ten position in several countries worldwide. "Impressive Instant" was released as promotional single, peaking at number one on the Hot Dance Club Play chart.
"Music" was generally acclaimed by most critics and earned Madonna five Grammy Award nominations, ultimately winning one for Best Recording Package. "Music" debuted at number-one in 23 countries. A stylistic and aesthetical departure from her previous work, "Ray Of Light" is an electronica and Techno-Pop record, which incorporates multiple genres, including Ambient, Trip Hop, Psychedelic and Middle Eastern music, while also seeing Madonna singing with greater breadth and a fuller tone. Mystical themes are also strongly present in both, the music and lyrics, as a result of Madonna embracing Kabbalah, her study of Hinduism and Buddhism, and her daily practice of Ashtanga yoga.
"Ray Of Light" has been called it Madonna's most adventurous record, and most mature and restrained album. It has been noted for its introspective, spiritual, and religious nature, with Madonna's vocals also being commended. Retrospectively, the album has continued receiving critical acclaim from contemporary critics and is often considered to be her best album. On top of this, the album is frequently cited by critics as one of the greatest mainstream Pop albums of all time. Music critics have noted the album's influence on popular music, and how it introduced Electronica into mainstream Pop culture in America. They also noted Madonna's musical re-invention, which helped the 39-year-old remain contemporary among the teen-marketed artists of the period.
"Ray Of Light" won four Grammy Awards from a total of six nominations. The album debuted at number two on the US Billboard 200, with the biggest first-week sales by a female artist at the time. It also peaked at number one in 17 countries, including Australia, Canada, Germany, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom, and charted within the top-five in most musical markets. It broke the record as Warner Music Group's album with most shipments before release at 2.5 million units worldwide (excluding the US figures), before being surpassed by Madonna's own next album, "Music". Ultimately, the album managed to sell 3 million copies in five days. Worldwide, "Ray Of Light" has sold over 16 million copies and is one of the best-selling albums by women.
On March 16, 2000, the album was certified four times Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) for shipments of four million units of the album. Madonna became the first female artist to have seven multi-Platinum studio albums by RIAA. It was later certified seven-times Platinum by the Canadian Recording Industry Association (CRIA) for shipment of 700 000 copies.
"Ray Of Light" enjoyed commercial success in Latin America, being certified 3× Platinum in Argentina for 180 000 copies recognized by Cámara Argentina de Productores de Fonogramas y Videogramas (CAPIF) and Platinum in Brazil for shipments of over 250 000 units certified by Associação Brasileira dos Produtores de Discos (ABPD). In Mexico, initial shipments of the album were 30 000 units. The album also achieved commercial success in Oceania, debuting at number one on the albums chart in Australia and New Zealand. It was certified triple Platinum by Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) and Platinum by Recording Industry Association of New Zealand (RIANZ) for shipments of 210 000 and 15 000 copies respectively. In Asia, "Ray Of Light" topped the album charts of Israel and Singapore and sold one million units in the continent as of June 1999. It was also the best-selling album from Warner Music company in the Asia-Pacific region during the 1998.
Ray of Light achieved its biggest commercial reception in European countries, where it topped the European Top 100 Albums chart and was certified seven times Platinum by the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) for sales of seven million copies, becoming the ninth best-selling albums in Europe for the 1998-2007 period. In the United Kingdom, "Ray Of Light" debuted at number one on the UK Albums Chart with opening sales of nearly 139 000 copies and remained at the top spot for two weeks. It was certified six times Platinum by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI) for shipment of 1.8 million copies. As of 2018, the album sold 1 730 000 units in the UK according to Official Charts Company. In France, "Ray Of Light" entered the albums chart at number two, staying there for seven weeks before descending the chart. It was certified three times Platinum by the Syndicat National de l'Édition Phonographique (SNEP) for shipments of 900 000 copies. In Germany, the album reached number one on the Media Control Charts and remained there for seven weeks. It remains Madonna's best-selling album in Germany, with three times Platinum certification from Bundesverband Musikindustrie (BVMI) for shipment of 1.5 million copies. "Ray Of Light" debuted at number one in Italy and sold 500 000 copies by July 1998, a sum that increased to 600 000 units as of 2000. In the rest of Europe, "Ray Of Light" topped the official charts of Belgium, Netherlands, Finland, Greece, Hungary, Norway, Spain and Switzerland.
"Ray Of Light" has been featured on numerous critics' lists of the greatest albums of all time. Rolling Stone Magazine placed the album at number 367 on the list of 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. In September 2020, an updated edition of the Rolling Stone list was published, showing the album rising 145 spots, to number 222. In 2001, a quarter of a million music fans on VH1 voted "Ray Of Light" as the 10th of "100 Best Albums of All Time". In 2003, "Ray Of Light" was allocated at number 17 on Q Magazine readers' list of "100 Greatest Albums Ever". The album is also included in the book "1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die". Mojo Magazine also listed "Ray Of Light" at number 29 on "100 Modern Classics: The Greatest Albums of Our Lifetime". In 2013, the album was included at number 241 on NME Magazine's list of "The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time". Madonna herself has considered "Ray Of Light" the most fulfilling evolution of her career.

Thematically, "Rebel Heart" represents the singer's romantic and rebellious sides; the ideas grew organically during the writing and recording sessions. Musically, it is a Pop record, which merges an array of genres such as 1990s House, Trap, and Reggae, while using acoustic guitars and a gospel choir. Some of the songs are autobiographical in nature, while others talk about love and Madonna's career.
"Rebel Heart" features guest appearances by boxer Mike Tyson and rappers Nicki Minaj, Nas and Chance the Rapper. Unlike her previous endeavors, working with many collaborators posed problems for Madonna in keeping a cohesive sound and creative direction for the album.
"Rebel Heart" received predominantly positive reviews from music critics; multiple reviewers called it Madonna's best effort in a decade. "True Blue" is the album where Madonna truly became superstar - the endlessly ambitious, fearlessly provocative entertainer who knew how to outrage, spark debates, get good reviews, and make good music while she's at it.
What's brilliant about "True Blue" is that she does both here, using the music to hook in critics just as she's baiting a mass audience with such masterstrokes as "Papa Don't Preach", where she defiantly states she's keeping her baby. Debut (and only one) full-length album by Italian Progressive Metal band.
Honestly, every instrument, including bass, gets equal attention on this CD, and it's damn refreshing. Every instrument has its moments, but they also come together well as a whole. Obviously there's a lot of synth influence, but there's a good number of acoustic sections that caught off guard. The keyboards are tastefully done, and both the ambient and lead patches are pleasing to listen to. Madsword's vocals fit into a Progressive setting perfectly, but also have a lot of Power when it's needed. The band makes good use of them, and leave them plenty of room in the songs. It's hard to judge based on one album, but Madsword is like Dream Theater with more emotion and variety. They're less progressive rhythmically, but have way more unique melodies. Actually, everything on this album sounds great. Prog fans will love The “Global Village”. The album is equally made up of complexity, emotion, and heaviness. The sound is generally futuristic, but the band doesn't go overboard with it or get stale. Nothing heard that sounds quite like this CD that is always a good sign. Check it out if you're a Prog fan, bass player, or producer!!

Mahakala from Athens are back with their official debut full-length release. You may remember the band by their debut, self-titled EP which was released on 2007 by Spanish indie label Parade Records. Mahakala in their current release are generating a very special type of sound inspired by the 60s Bluesy sound in its heavier form (Jimi Hendrix Experience, Cream) 70s Rock and its fantasy/occult side (Coven, Black Widow, Blue Oyster Cult), the 80s dark side of Classic Heavy Metal (Merciful Fate, Demon) plus the entire wave of occult Rock and Metal bands of 00s (The Devils Blood, Year Of The God, Ghost, In Solitude). They are adding some generous Doom Metal touches on the final mix plus some Heavy Rock references (Spiritual Beggars, Grand Mangus) delivering a heavy as hell, dark and inspired album including some groovy Heavy music.
Some people may think that the band has chosen to follow this musical direction thanks to the big hype that is generated the last years over the wave of the occult Rock and Metal bands playing around, but I if you search more carefully to their discography you would realize that their musical metamorphosis has started on 2009 and their "Pact With The Devil" EP, so for sure the musical approaching of their full length is not a rough work done in a bunch of rehearsals along with the adding of some wannabe lyrics. It was 2009 long before the big hype explosion in 2013.
The point is that in here we got a really inspired record having to offer high quality music with lots of influences. The album is recorded live and it is a fact that the band's really passionate performance gives an ultra vibe to the music, generating an explosive result. It is real difficult to select a specific song from the album as it is listened from the beginning to the end with no stop and here is the current point where mention that here we got a concept album.
The production which is loud, fu***ng heavy and clear does justice to the music. The front cover matches the album's dark concept, and the overall package both on CD and vinyl is fantastic. What else are you asking for a release in order to grab it at no time at all? Come on, offer yourself some dark and inspired music! You deserve it!!

The second full-length studio album by Italian Horror Heavy Metal band.
Originally started as a Black Metal band with screeching vocals, Malamorte from Rome already earned an excellent reputation in the Underground with one EP ("The Fall Of Babylon", 2014) and an album ("Devilish Illusions", 2016).
On their new album, mastermind Lord Vampyr (Cain, Nailed God, ex- Theatre Des Vampires) and his project present unblemished Occult Heavy Metal with some decent Doom impacts. Plaintive yet stirring vocals, influenced by King Diamond, meet up with the outstanding, dark atmosphere of early Death SS classics. Sometimes with a little touch of Black Metal. Doom influenced melodies and dark organ sounds give a decent obscure charm to the album.
 Malamorte will remind you of the Darkthrone albums that draw most of their influence from the first wave bands, alas Bathory, Celtic Frost, etc., and that occasional harmony, or sing-along chorus that’ll leave you stoked by just how catchy it is. That dash of King Diamond, or even influence from modern acts like Tribulation, seem to relate to Malamorte’s material quite a bit, and these meeting points carry a certain energy that makes for a very subtle yet effective get-together between old and new Metal.
"Satan Goes to Heaven to Destroy the Kingdom of God" is packed with tear-jerking guitar leads, catchy sing along choruses, outstanding riffs and an interesting thick crunchy sound, that throws you immediately to an overall atmosphere and aesthetics of devilish music, that’s not afraid to not take itself too seriously. The vocals are decent enough and fit well with the instrumentation, which is frequently accompanied by the sounds of an organ to smooth things naturally into darker realms, how well that works for Malamorte is very obvious upon even the first listening to this album. The true charm of "Satan Goes to Heaven to Destroy the Kingdom of God" is where all these over-lapping influences meet to form one well-shaped piece of fluent consistency and undeniable songwriting quality.
This is an album most Metalheads will enjoy, no matter what type of Metal is your personal cup of tea! And fans of King Diamond and Mercyful Fate will be pleased, without a doubt. Masterpiece!!

Debut full-length album by German Melodic Gothic Metal band.
Lutz de Putter founded Mandrake in 1996. The band recorded their first demo “Mandragora Officialis” in 1997. Debut album “Forever” was recorded at Soundlodge Productions in 1998, and shows the harder side of Mandrake more focused on male vocals and growls. Album was produced with the help of some guest musicians. As a self-produced effort, the overall emphasis reaches for a clear and concise tone, which gives the impression of a professionally mixed recording of Doom-laddened riffs accented by keyboards and occasional violin melodies. Influences pertaining to their compositions seem to point towards My Dying Bride, Paradise Lost and Theatre Of Tragedy, with male growling providing most of the vocals while feathery female vocals are interspersed within a number of tracks and are featured almost exclusively on two of them.
All in all this is the great Melodic Gothic/Doom Metal album and it’s musthave for your collection!!
