The debut full-length studio album by legendary American Hard Rock/Soft Metal band.
From the opening track, "Runaway", which rode to glory on E Street Band-mate Roy Bittan's distinctive keyboard riff, to the sweaty arena rock of "Get Ready", which closed the album, Bon Jovi's debut is an often-overlooked minor gem from the early days of Hair Metal. The songs may be simple and the writing prone to all clichés of the form, but the album boasts a pretty consistent Hard Rock attack, passionate playing and a keen sense of melody. The prominence that keyboardist David Bryan (credited as David Rashbaum in the liner notes) gets on this record is an indicator, perhaps, that Bon Jovi had more than a passing interest in the Pop market, which was then dominated by new wave and Synth Pop. Mixing Journey-like '70s Rock ("She Don't Know Me") with shout-along stadium anthems ("Love Lies"), the self-titled Bon Jovi album lay the foundation for the band's career, which reached its apex several years later with that very same combination of Pop melody and arena-sized ambition.
Originally titled "Tough Talk", album was renamed after the record company decided it was wiser to issue the album as a self-titled release. Most of the songs are written by Jon Bon Jovi, Bryan and Sambora. "Burning for Love" and "Come Back" were the very first songs written for the album. Despite the moderate success of "7800° Fahrenheit", Bon Jovi weren't becoming the superstars they had hoped, and they changed their approach for their next album, going for a more mainstream sound than their heavier first two records. "Slippery When Wet" wasn't just a breakthrough album for Bon Jovi; it was a breakthrough for Hair Metal in general, marking the point where the genre officially entered the mainstream. Released in 1986, it presented a streamlined combination of Pop, Hard Rock and Metal, that appealed to everyone - especially girls, whom traditional Heavy Metal often ignored.
Hiring professional songwriter Desmond Child as a collaborator, the band wrote 30 songs and auditioned them for local New Jersey and New York teenagers, basing the album's running order on their opinions. Much of the album's content was written by Jon Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora, except "You Give Love A Bad Name", "Livin' on a Prayer", "Without Love" and "I'd Die For You", which were co-written by Desmond Child.
The album went through various name changes during its inception. The main working title was "Wanted Dead Or Alive"; later the band decided to name the album "Slippery When Wet" after visiting The Number 5 Orange Stripclub in Vancouver. "Slippery When Wet" was an instant commercial success. The album features songs that are today considered Bon Jovi's most well-known tracks, such as "You Give Love a Bad Name", "Livin' on a Prayer" and "Wanted Dead or Alive".
Between 1986 and 1987, "Slippery When Wet" produced an amazing string of hit singles, including three Top 10 Billboard Hot 100 hits, two of which ("You Give Love A Bad Name" and "Livin' On A Prayer") reached No. 1, making Bon Jovi the first Hard Rock band to ever have two consecutive No. 1 Billboard Hot 100 chart hits. Like its predecessor, "Love For Sale" also scored some notable international hits: "Ma Baker" is a colourful gangster story that boasts a stuttered vocal hook guaranteed to stick in the listener's head, and "Belfast" is an up-tempo dancefloor stormer, that works some surprisingly heavy sounding power chords into the group's slick dancefloor sound. Frank Farian's slick, lush production ensures that the album is a slick piece of ear candy from start to finish.

Founded on the ashes of early 80s Hard Rock act Cacumen, German Rock act Bonfire unleashed their debut album “Don’t Touch The Light” in 1986, which not only raised a lot of attention in the Hard Rock scene, but also received favorable press from all over the world. Soon after the first release, Bonfire went through some line-up changes but nevertheless hit the studios with famous producer Michael Wagener to record the album, which up to today is regarded as one true classic in Hard Rock history - “Fireworks”.

But it merely paved the way for Tyler's teaming with Jim Steinman, when she would realize her true potential and start the second phase of her multi-faceted career. In the fifth running week on the chart, "The World Starts Tonight" fell to number six, replaced by Tyler's second studio album "Natural Force".

Bow Wow was one of the first Japanese bands to prove that domestic musicians could compete with Western Hard Rock acts. The band formed in 1975 by record producer Yoshimi Ueno, and was one of the first Japanese Metal bands. They were quickly signed to Victor and used the money to buy a truck that could double as a stage, which earned them interviews with many magazines and television shows. Yamamoto recalled that when he joined, he told the producer he was a guitarist and not a singer, but during recording someone suggested he sing in English, and he went to be second vocalist of the band. Bow Wow released their self-titled debut album in 1976. In 1977, Bow Wow opened for Aerosmith and Kiss on their Japanese tours.
When main former vocalist Mitsuhiro Saito left in the band in 1983, after releasing nine studio albums with the band, Bow Wow adopted a mainstream sound by recruiting lead vocalist Genki Hitomi and keyboardist Rei Atsumi, and renamed themselves to Vow Wow. They relocated to England in 1986, before former bass player Kenji Sano left the band the following year, and former guitarist Kyoji Yamamoto invited former Whitesnake bassist Neil Murray to replace him. After Murray left to join Black Sabbath, studio bassist Mark Gould played on Vow Wow's last album before they disbanded in 1990.
Yamamoto reformed Bow Wow in 1995 with all new members, before it became a trio when fellow original members Saito and Niimi rejoined in 1998. Niimi left in 2015 and the band now performs under the name Bow Wow G2, which refers to the two guitarists being the only official members.
1982's "Asian Volcano" marked Bow Wow's categorical return to the Heavy Rock style that launched their career, following a series of befuddling mainstream Pop albums.
