The name of the album is phonetic for "quatorze", the French word for fourteen.
During the recording of this album, guitarist Denis D'Amour (a.k.a. Piggy) died on August 25, 2005 due to colon cancer. The album features tracks recorded by him.
It is also band's second release with bassist Jason Newsted (ex-Metallica).
The song "The X-Stream" included in “Guitar Hero II”.

Re-release of the debut full-length studio album by legendary Canadian Technical Heavy/Thrash Metal band.
That first album from '84 tends to be the overlooked gem in the Voivod discography, as their albums from 1986 to 1991 always garner the most attention from Metal devotees. However, one cannot gloss over the importance over "War And Pain". Until then, Canada was not exactly a leader in the Heavy Metal world. Aside from workmanlike bands like Anvil and Exciter, the great Progressive trio Rush, the more middling trio Triumph, and the fun party Metal of Helix, the country had little to offer, Metalwise, by the time 1984 rolled around. "War And Pain" changed all that; here was an album that was not only so extreme it was startling, but it was also one that derived heavily from the various stalwart bands in the Underground Metal scene at the time, yet remained completely different from anything that came out that year.
Voivod's musical style has changed several times since the band's origin in the early 1980s. Starting out as a Speed Metal band, they have added a mix of Progressive Metal and Thrash Metal to create their own unique Metal style, and Voivod are credited as one of the "big four" Canadian Thrash Metal bands, along with Sacrifice, Razor, and Annihilator.
"War And Pain" is the sound of a band already in mid-stride, and the rate at which they improved as the years went on remains one of the most stunning runs in Heavy Metal history. This swanky re-release will please old fans to no end, and serve as a revelation to younger listeners, proving that it deserves to be placed among Metallica's "Kill 'Em All" and Slayer's "Show No Mercy" as one of the finest debut albums in '80s Underground Metal!!
"Condemned to the Gallows", included in this CD, was the track band recorded for the compilation album "Metal Massacre V". Aside from one cassette release, it was the only track that never re-released on the LP or CD until 2011.

The first Volbeat album to chart on the Billboard 200, and certified Gold. "Guitar Gangsters & Cadillac Blood" was recorded in Hansen Studios of Jacob Hansen, who also produced the two previous records. The album features 14 new tracks, including a Jimmy Work cover, "Making Believe", as a bonus track on all editions (the song was also recorded by Social Distortion on their "Somewhere Between Heaven And Hell" album, but was originally written and performed by Jimmy Work. Volbeat's cover was based on the version by Social Distortion).

The band's first album with guitarist Rob Caggiano and their final album with bassist Anders Kjølholm.
With the release of each new album, Volbeat have been getting bigger and bigger, nonetheless thanks to Metallica who embraced them and took them out on tour.
After four albums which were produced by Jacob Hansen, the band desperately needed a change in their sound. In early 2013, Volbeat announced that the former Anthrax lead guitarist, Rob Caggiano, would be producing the album as well as recording guest solos. Shortly thereafter, it was announced that Caggiano had officially joined the band as its second guitarist, after being asked to do so by the other band members. Singer and guitarist Michael Poulsen said of the chemistry between Caggiano and the rest of the band: "The collaboration with Rob in the studio was so inspiring and in good spirit that we decided to keep him. Basically, we went into the studio as a three-piece and came out as a whole band!"
The result is the Volbeat album with a refreshed sound, but at the same time an album that is true to the band's trademark sound. The balance between the instruments is much better and especially the drum sound is improved, in such a way that it sounds less like Pantera’s "Vulgar Display Of Power" (Terry Date) and more like Anthrax’s "We’ve Come For You All" (Caggiano). This, together with working on modifying the drum sound to a different nature of the songs, has resulted in a more homogenized sound of the album. This is most noticeable in the songs that combine the Country elements with full-on Heavy Metal.
Poulsen’s James Hetfield-meets-Elvis Presley vocals are as good as ever, with a bit more Hetfield, this time around. Caggiano’s mark on this album is mostly noticeable in fine production, but he delivers also a couple of his typical Metallic guitar leads.
The track "Room 24", with vocalist King Diamond, was made available for the fans as a free download on 5 April 2013, and was later nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance.
The album entered the Billboard 200 in the United States at number nine. The album sold 39 000 in its first week. It is the first time a Danish act has charted in the top 10 of the Billboard 200 since "Aquarium" by Aqua charted at number seven in 1997. As of April 2016, "Outlaw Gentlemen & Shady Ladies" had sold 308 000 copies in the US.
In the United Kingdom, "Outlaw Gentlemen & Shady Ladies" debuted at number 78 in the UK Albums Chart, selling 1 276 copies in its first week. As of June 2016, the album had sold 18 671 copies in the UK.
The album entered the Media Control Charts in Germany at number one and received immediate Gold status. It sold more than 100 000 in its first week.
The new album doesn’t mark the creative return of the band, but at least it marks the first time that Volbeat has created an album, which is better than its predecessor, even if it just slightly better.

Volbeat's musical style can be described as a combination of Hard Hitting Metallic Rock'n'Roll with a touch of the sixties melodic tunes and Elvis. Their debut album, "The Strength/The Sound/The Songs", put the band on the map immediately with rave reviews almost everywhere. The first album not to feature Anders Kjølholm, who left the band in November the previous year.
Musically, the album is more melodic and less Heavy Metal sounding than previous albums. For the first time Volbeat are using female backing vocals on several songs by singer Mia Maja, and "Goodbye Forever" features the Harlem Gospel Choir. Poulsen has said he is the most proud of the album's choruses, which he has called "the strongest I've ever done". Singer Danko Jones features on the song "Black Rose", who Poulsen had stayed in touch with since he first met him when Jones' band played a concert in Copenhagen in 2006.
"The Devil's Bleeding Crown" was released as the album's first Single in North America on 7 April 2016. The single peaked at number one on Billboard's Mainstream Rock Songs chart in the United States.
Internationally, "For Evigt" was released as the first Single on 29 April 2016. The song features Danish singer Johan Olsen of Rock group Magtens Korridorer, and is the second collaboration between Olsen and Volbeat, following "The Garden's Tale" (2007). "Black Rose" was released as the third Single in North America, where it was sent to active Rock radio stations in the US on 7 March 2017. The song peaked at number one on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Songs chart in the US, becoming Volbeat's sixth number-one Single on the chart.
The album debuted at number one in Denmark. It sold 8 336 units in its opening week, the biggest first-week sales of 2016. In the United States, "Seal The Deal & Let's Boogie" debuted at number four on the Billboard 200 with first-week sales of 51 000 units. It is the band's highest-charting album in the US and the second-highest charting album by a Danish act, behind Lukas Graham's "Blue Album", which charted at number three two months prior. The album debuted at number 16 in the UK Albums Chart, selling 4 083 copies in its first week.

"The Strength / The Sound / The Songs" is probably best described as a compilation album of all of Volbeat’s previous demos, strung together to produce their first official debut album. Does this affect the quality of the music and bring this debut to the level of a weak band? F*****ng no!!! This is a strong debut and a great way to introduce a collection of impressive tracks that never made a decent release in Europe or the States.
Released in 2005, the album initially failed to chart. However, in July 2006 the album entered the Danish Charts, peaking at number 18. And it would stay on that chart for 21 non-consecutive weeks.
The only official single released from the album was the band's cover of Dusty Springfield's "I Only Wanna Be With You", which was released in 2006. The band also filmed a music video for the Single.
Volbeat's label, Mascot Records, had a limited distribution in the United States, meaning that the album went largely unnoticed in that country. Volbeat would not break through in the United States until 2010 with their fourth album, "Beyond Hell / Above Heaven".
Volbeat’s style is a perfect balance of heaviness and acoustic melody, intertwined with heavy, Thrashy riffs and 1950s Bebop. While Volbeat perfected some of these styles and riffs on succeeding albums, the initial characteristics and attitude of what they would become drench this album.
This is Volbeat’s most fun album due to its mishmash of great tunes that don’t follow a concept or order any further than the organization of the complete album. While the succeeding Volbeat albums are great for their concepts and structure, Volbeat’s debut is the best example of an all-out album with enough diversity, to give it completeness. Everything, from the catchy as all hell "Caroline Leaving" and "Say Your Number" to the ballsy "Rebel Monster" and "Pool of Booze, Booze, Booza" to the mellow (yet heavy) "Soulsweeper" and the Dusty Springfield cover of "I Only Wanna Be With You", gives the album diversity, groove, and melody.

Compared to the older efforts by this band, "Opus Mortis VIII" shows a little less pure Death Metal style but, that does not mean that it is less anger and killer.
The production of the album is excellent. The very 'dark' guitars are heard during the whole album, and the work done just great. The solos are simply great as their musicality and skilful scales brings each song a great sound. The drums have a pretty good rhythm and clear sound, and the vocals are mixed above the music well. With respect to the voice of Erick, he does an exceptional job here, and gives to the album the "Death" voice style. Also, the music on this album has a good pattern and rhythm, making it nicely structured.
"Opus Mortis VIII" is a very good album and is recommended, especially if you are looking for a bit less impulsive and more old-fashioned Vomitory. But if you love Death Metal in general, this cannot be overlooked!

In the beginning of 2006, songwriting commenced for the album "Terrorize Brutalize Sodomize". With a new guitarist on board, the ideas and inspiration started flowing and in December Vomitory entered Leon Music Studio in their hometown Karlstad, breaking up a long working relationship with Henrik Larsson on good terms, to try out something new, since the loss of guitarist Ulf and having Peter on board marked some kind of new start for Vomitory.
