It's the first single from the band's fifth full-length studio album, "Powerslave" (1984).
“2 Minute to Midnight” begins with the main riff playing quietly with louder drum intervals by Nicko. It gets going quickly, and you’ll hear some excellent singing from Bruce for a while. He sings most of the verses in a very catchy way, with a touch of evil at times. This song has one of the catchiest (if not the catchiest) Maiden chorus ever. The solo is typical Maiden style, being fast and powerful, except done even better than usual. The song retains a constant beat, with the exception of a slower section following the solo. Despite how fun this is, the atmosphere is pretty dark. The lyrics also aid this darkness, as some of them sound pretty evil. The atmosphere, the catchy chorus, and the great solo make this one of Maiden’s best.
The B-side is a cover of British Progressive Rock band Beckett, "Rainbow's Gold", which was featured on their self-titled album released in 1974. The song was written by Terry Slesser and Kenny Mountain, respectively the band's vocalist and guitarist. On the original release, it is titled "A Rainbow's Gold". Both the vocals and the guitars lack variety, and end up repeating themselves for most of the song. The lyrics are pretty interesting, despite the repetitive way they’re sung, so that’s a plus. The solo was short, but quite good, and the song is fun, despite its lack of creativity. Iron Maiden covers are always interesting of course, making for another plus.
This is a very good single for the Maiden collectors, containing a classic song, interesting B-side and great artwork. The band has shown that they really knew what they were doing when they decided to release this. Back in the day, this probably led many people to buying “Powerslave” and becoming fans themselves. If you want a notable and good Iron Maiden single, this is exactly what you’re looking for!!

First re-release of the eighth single by the legendary British Heavy Metal band.
It's the first single from the band's fourth full-length studio album, "Piece of Mind" (1983) and the band's first release to feature Nicko McBrain, who replaced Clive Burr on drums in 1982.
"Flight of Icarus" is one of the better written songs by Iron Maiden. It was composed by Dickinson & Smith who had finally discovered how much fun it was for them to compose together. Unlike most of the other songs from the "Piece Of Mind", this one consists of simple riffs, vocal lines and had an easy accessible Pop song structure. A bad thing? Of course not! With musicians like these in their prime pretty much any song sounded great. And even in the hands of others ‘"Flight of Icarus" would still be a great song because of the catchy main riff and the strong chorus.
"Flight of Icarus" loosely based on the ancient Greek myth of Icarus who was imprisoned with his father Daedalus in the palace of Knossos on Crete. In an attempt to escape, the pair fabricated wings from feathers and wax so they could fly away. Unfortunately Icarus, not heeding the advice of his father, flew too close to the Sun, melting the wax that held the feathers and thus fell to his death in the sea. Vocalist Bruce Dickinson modified the original tale to make it an allegory of teenage rebellion against adult authority, which caused the death of Icarus in this case. There is a well performed solo towards the end, as well as some inviting lead melodies to listen to before the track is out. Dickinson's vocal performance sounds a bit like the late Ronnie James Dio in this one.
“Flight of Icarus” is one of the more memorable tracks off of Maiden’s classic "Piece Of Mind" album, a release relatively full of memorable tracks. Sort of a loose adaptation of the Icarus story, it’s nonetheless a strong romp through Maiden’s legendary songwriting and shows the band at a very solid point in their career. Awesome!
The B-side of the Single is a new studio rendition of the Montrose song "I Got the Fire" from the "Paper Money" album 1974. Iron Maiden originally released a live cover of this song during the Paul Di'Anno era, on 1980 single, "Sanctuary", however the "Flight Of Icarus" version features Bruce Dickinson on vocals and is a studio production rather than a live performance. The song ends up sounding like generic 70's Rock juiced up with some typical NWOBHM speed.
The single cover, in something of a parody of the original myth, portrays a winged Eddie killing Icarus with a flamethrower. Icarus resembles the figure in Evening: Fall of Day, by William Rimmer, which was used as a label logo by Led Zeppelin. According to the artist, Derek Riggs, this is a reference to Led Zeppelin's break-up a few years before.
It was the band's first single to be released in the United States, becoming one of their few songs to gain substantial airplay, peaking at No. 8 on the Billboard Top Album Tracks chart - the highest position of any Iron Maiden single in the US. It was also a success in the UK, peaking at No. 11 on the UK Singles Chart.

First re-release of the nineteenth single by the legendary British Heavy Metal band.
It is the only single to be released in sync with a home video (VHS), 1989's "Maiden England".
The performance was recorded in Birmingham, England in 1988, towards the end of the massive world tour to support the album "Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son" where the song originally appeared.
The song is about how the character of the song sees disturbing visions about afterlife and other mystic things in his dreams, but is scared about if he will ever be able to wake up again. It starts with a soft guitar solo, which is then joined by Bruce Dickinson's singing as well as the rest of the band. The song starts out quite peaceful, but gets Progressively heavier towards the song's climax and the following final verse.
B-side “Killers” is the live version of the title track from the second full-length album.
It is the final single to feature Adrian Smith for an entire decade.

Recorded live at Long Beach Arena in USA on March 14-17th, 1985, it's the first single for the band's third live album, "Live After Death" (1985).
Iron Maiden's World Slavery Tour was one of the longest and most extensive tours ever undertaken by a Rock band. Lasting from August 9, 1984, to July 5, 1985, and visiting such countries as Poland, Austria, Hungry, Yugoslavia, Italy, France, Spain, Portugal, Scotland, England, Germany, Sweden, Canada, Japan, and the U.S., the show included a mammoth setup that replicated the intricate ancient Egyptian scenery of the "Powerslave" album cover. As a "thank you" to the hundreds of thousands of fans who packed arenas the world over, the live album "Live After Death" was issued in 1985. "Live After Death" is easily one of Heavy Metal's best live albums ever. And this first single for upcoming album is a must have for every Iron Maiden fan!!
This is the only Iron Maiden release since the “Soundhouse Tapes” that doesn't have an Eddie on the cover.

It's the third single for the band's seventh full-length studio album, "Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son" (1988).
"The Clairvoyant" was the first track written for the album. According to Steve Harris, the song's lyrics were inspired by the death of psychic Doris Stokes, after which he wondered to himself whether "she could foresee her own death". The song starts in the first person, from the main character's point of view. Later, when he is dead it is in the third person. Harris then began to write the song "Seventh Son of a Seventh Son", which gave him the idea of turning the full album into a concept record given that the main character would also have the power of clairvoyance. The song's guitar solo is played by Dave Murray.
B-side contains live performance, “The Prisoner”, from Maiden's 1988 headlining at the Monsters of Rock festival in Donington Park, on August 20th.
The single debuted at number six in the British charts.

It's the second single for the band's seventh full-length studio album, "Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son" (1988).
"Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son" is one of Iron Maiden's most acclaimed albums and with good reason. "The Evil that Men Do" has always been a standard track in and it makes for a great single with it's catchy feel. The song with an amazing harmony which stands out over virtually any other Iron Maiden song, from that opening few seconds you can tell you got an awesome song ahead.
The title of the song is taken from Marcus Antonius's speech while addressing the crowd of Romans after Caesar's murder (Act 3, scene 2, "The Forum") in William Shakespeare's Julius Caesar: "The evil that men do lives after them; The good is oft interred with their bones." Bruce Dickinson may sometimes repeat this before playing the song, but in reverse (as he did in Rock in Rio). However, the poetic lyrics of the song are unrelated to this.
The guitar solo in "The Evil That Men Do" is played by Adrian Smith while the guitar solo in "Prowler '88" is played by Dave Murray.
The single's B-side is re-recording of "Prowler" appears as tracks number one on the band's debut album Iron Maiden. "The Evil That Men Do" is definitely a Maiden classic and one of their best songs to date, however, the real reason to get this single is because of the B-Side - remake of classic from their debut album with Bruce Dickinson on vocals as opposed to Paul Di'Anno! Bruce Dickinson completely outclasses Paul Di'Anno classic, with a more aggressive voice. So, this is an awesome title song but the B-Sides are the real reason to buy this thing!!
The single debuted at number six in the UK charts and quickly rose to number five.

First re-release of the fourth single by the legendary British Heavy Metal band.
Released on 2 March 1981 is the lead single to the 1981 LP "Killers". The song did not appear in the original UK album in February, but was included in the US and Canadian release in June and the international 1998 remaster. Also it was appeared as a bonus track on the Japanese version, although mistakenly entitled "Details Of Twilight Zone". This came about because the band also sent a telex explaining the song to their Japanese colleagues, headlined "Details Of Twilight Zone", which they mistook to be the name of the song itself. It was released a month after the album, in the middle of the band's UK tour.
The song was originally intended to be the B-side of "Wrathchild", but the band felt it was so strong that it deserved to be the A-side instead. The single's other song, "Wrathchild", was also given 'A-side' status because, according to Steve Harris, "we had a live version of us doing 'Wrathchild' at the Rainbow, before Christmas, on video that we could use. We couldn't afford to pay for another video for "Twilight Zone", so we did a double A-side, because we knew we were gonna be off touring a lot and, if by any chance they wanted us on Top of the Pops again, at least we'd got a video for 'Wrathchild' we could give them".
Like their two previous single covers, the artwork for "Twilight Zone" was subject to criticism in the press, where it was interpreted as "gratuitous sexism". The media were offended by what appeared to be the band's mascot, Eddie, spying on a young girl in her bedroom. Garry Bushell points out that the critics were mistaken, as the song lyrics and picture on the girl's dressing table insinuate that Eddie is dead and contacting his lover ("Charlotte") from beyond the grave, thus making it the band's first love song.
At the time of its release, it was the band's second most successful single, peaking at No. 31 in the UK Singles Chart. Also it is the band's first single to feature guitarist Adrian Smith.

First re-release of the fourteenth single by the legendary British Heavy Metal band.
It's the first single for the band's sixth full-length studio album, "Somewhere In Time" (1986). It was the first single solely written by guitarist Adrian Smith, who also sings backing vocals. Wasted Years" is the only song on the album that features no synthesizers.
The song deals with subject of homesickness and alienation, as well as the negative aspects of the band's nearly yearlong previous tour and personal problems that Smith and other band members were going through in that period. At the same time the chorus suggests the idea that one should move beyond past troubles and look forward. The original working title was "Golden Years", as can be heard on numerous "Somewhere On Tour" bootlegs. The song is composed in the key of E minor. Adrian Smith plays the guitar solo. The guitar line here is probably one of the most memorable in the realm of Metal, and is sort of a rite of passage for any lead guitar player who wishes to tear it up with a band in the Metal genre. The chorus is very easy to sing along to and is a regular favorite at live performances.
The b-side "Reach Out" was sung by Adrian Smith, with regular lead singer Bruce Dickinson providing backing vocals. This song was previously performed live by Nicko McBrain and Smith's side project The Entire Population Of Hackney. This track is another rare treat. Smith does an excellent job on the vocals, but his strength on this one is his catchy guitar riffs. This song has a solo that is so idiomatic that you could easily hum the tune along with it, something that Metal guitar solos are not often famous for. This single is probably a bit hard to come by at this point, but if you can find it - it's recommend it highly! It's a great song from Maiden's greatest album, and a pair of tracks that will make you smile and make you laugh, something that Metal is allowed to do to people, despite what the no-fun elitists of the darker scene.
“Wasted Years” reached number 18 in the UK Singles Charts and it’s one of those singles you just have to own when you’re into Maiden!!

"Dance Of Death" is probably the most controversial album of Iron Maiden so far, as well as the most Progressive and most heavy album of Iron Maiden ever.
When picking this album up, we could not help but notice the artwork. And art is not so good. Iron Maiden hired David Patchett to create the art with CGI. Apparently, his time cost the band enough money; the band stopped him because they thought the work was good enough as is, which the artist claimed was still in its prototype stages. The artwork would be notorious for its epic fail among the Metal community and placed on some worst artwork lists of Metal fans. Good thing this album is not judged solely on its cover, because “Dance of Death” is one of the better Iron Maiden albums!
"Dance Of Death" recalls prime Iron Maiden but with renewed vigor. Iron Maiden recorded the album the old-fashioned way: on analog tape, which adds a layer of warmth to the LP. "Dance Of Death" never sounds sterile or processed, unlike so many other Hard Rock and Metal bands recording in the digital age. But the record clocks in at nearly 70 minutes, making it somewhat long and demanding. Still, that’s a relatively small complaint for such a strong album. They still sound like they did in the 80's! Pure brilliance. One thing extremely unique on the album is that it has a great deal of orchestration and an almost Arabic-style vibe too, especially in "No More Lies" and "Dance Of Death". The rhythm guitar really tuned down heavy on the song "Montsegur". There were other powerful songs such as "Wildest Dreams", "Rainmaker", and the graceful epic "Paschendale". "Journeyman" is a 7-minute song with an acoustic, and it is real cool.
This album is not by any means a concept album, but the central theme of Death is recurrent in one form or another. This is their second studio release since the return of vocalist Bruce Dickinson and guitarist Adrian Smith in 1999. The album features the band's first ever fully acoustic track, "Journeyman", as well as their only song co-written by drummer Nicko McBrain, "New Frontier". The album was recorded on magnetic (analogue) tape.
Aside from the artwork, the 13th album by Iron Maiden is still a solid listen. After listening to “Brave New World” though, this album had to top the most successful album since 1988. Although it does not succeed in usurping that magnum opus, Iron Maiden proved that they still had a lot of energy left to write good music.
All in all, "Dance Of Death" is a pretty excellent Iron Maiden album. Many older fans will complain that there is nothing really new and ground-breaking here, but the band cannot release a "Piece Of Mind" or a "Powerslave" every time they put an album out on the market. "With Dance Of Death", they have done a brilliant Metal album that will still please some of the older generations, while introducing the newer fans to the world of Iron Maiden's great music in an even better way than "Brave New World" had already done.

Recorded at Westfalenhalle in Dortmund, Germany on 24 November 2003, during the Dance of Death World Tour (2003–2004), "Death On The Road" deviates little from Iron Maiden's countless other live shows. While blissfully heavy on the band's excellent - and suitably theatrical - new material, longtime fans do not need any more live versions of "Number of the Beast", "Hallowed Be Thy Name", "Run to the Hills", or "The Trooper". All that said, Iron Maiden do not disappoint, laying to waste any notions that they can't hold themselves to the performance standards of their younger days.
Even Bruce Dickinson, despite a voice that's now often more choked than feral, can barely keep himself from leaping into the crowd, and it's that kind of enthusiasm that makes each and every live release - and there are a lot of them - worthwhile to some degree!

The fifth official re-release of the second full-length album by the legendary British Heavy Metal band.
The album was their first with guitarist Adrian Smith and their last with vocalist Paul Di'Anno, who was sacked after problems with his stage performance, arose due to his alcohol and cocaine use.
This sophomore Iron Maiden's effort is mostly composed of pre-existing material that had been left off the debut, with just a few new additions. It's certainly a better-sounding release than the debut, with new producer Martin Birch beefing up the band's studio presence and lending their instrumental attack a newfound clarity that throws their considerable skills into sharp relief. In fact, this helps mask the fact that the songwriting is not quite as strong overall as it was on the debut. But the teaming of new guitarist Adrian Smith with Dave Murray forms the most formidable twin-guitar attack in Heavy Metal, outside of Glenn Tipton and K.K. Downing. Plus, bassist Steve Harris' busy, driving lines are now consistently audible in the mix. The resulting instrumental fireworks are what truly make the album tick. That said, there is a much smaller percentage of catalog standards here than on the previous album.
"Wrathchild" is the standout, re-recorded here with Smith on guitar from an earlier version for the "Metal For Muthas" compilation. There is a fair bit of unity in the lyrical themes, with a parade of murderers, fugitives, and characters otherwise torn from their roots. "Murders in the Rue Morgue" is a first-person retelling of the Poe short story, and the title track is another highlight, with Paul Di'Anno turning in an especially menacing performance. The single "Purgatory" has a catchy singalong chorus and a tempo worthy of Motörhead, while "Twilight Zone" (not included on the U.K. issue, but added to subsequent releases) scraped the bottom of the British charts. The biggest departure here is the almost Supertramp-like Prog-Pop of "Prodigal Son," a melodic, uptempo offering with an arrangement based around acoustic guitars.
Despite some inconsistency in the material, "Killers" is clearly the work of a top-notch ensemble, and in order to take the next step forward, their musical ambitions were clearly going to require a vocalist as technically accomplished as the band. It's worth noting that some Maiden fans actually prefer the rawness of the Di'Anno years to the polish of the Bruce Dickinson era (though, it should also be noted, they're in the minority).
"Killers" is a monumental record, real Heavy Metal with powerful lyrics, real grit, a superb urban atmosphere, genuine heaviness and no pretentiousness! This is essential Metal classic!

First re-release of the eighth full-length studio album by the legendary British Heavy Metal band.
"No Prayer For The Dying" is one of the best Metal albums of 1990. Although it received generally mixed to negative reviews, the album peaked at No. 2 in the UK Albums Chart and contains the band's only UK Singles Chart No. 1, "Bring Your Daughter... to the Slaughter".
The album departed from the keyboard- and synthesiser-saturated Progressive Rock direction of the band's two previous studio outings (1986's "Somewhere In Time" and 1988's "Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son") in favour of a more "stripped down", straight forward style, reminiscent of the band's earlier material, which ushered in a change of vocal style for Bruce Dickinson from the operatic sound of the 1980s to a raspier way of singing. The album also departed from literary and historical lyrical themes in favour of more political content, with songs focusing on religious exploitation and social concerns. It's the only Iron Maiden studio album to date without a song exceeding six minutes in length and the only one to contain profanity in the lyrics.
Album marks band's first line-up change since 1983; guitarist Adrian Smith left the band during the pre-production phase, unhappy with the musical direction it was taking, and only having contributed to one song, "Hooks in You". Smith was replaced by Janick Gers, who had previously worked with singer Bruce Dickinson on his first solo-album, "Tattooed Millionaire", and had also worked with Ian Gillan and White Spirit.
It was also the band's first release with Epic Records in the US, after the band left Capitol Records, but was sold through EMI for all territories outside the US.

Second re-release of the seventh full-length studio album by the legendary British Heavy Metal band.
"Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son" is the last great Iron Maiden album, reconnecting with the band's Prog Rock roots and reversing the signs of decline that had been evident on their previous record. By this point, Maiden had earned the respect of Metalheads the world over with their steadfast adherence to unadulterated Metal and their grandiose aesthetic. They'd made concessions neither to Pop-Metal nor to Thrash, and their passionate fan base would never have tolerated a radical reinvention. But what do you do when your epic ambition itself has become a formula? You go even bigger and make a concept album, of course, and that's what Maiden does here, breaking out of the creative rut they'd fallen into on "Somewhere In Time". The concept is based on the European folklore which held that the "Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son" would be born with special powers that could be used for good or evil (and probably also in part by fantasy author Orson Scott Card, who'd touched on this idea in his own work). As such, the lyrics are Maiden at their most gothic, obsessed with supernatural mysticism of all stripes; the story line concerns the title character, born with a gift for prophecy but mistrusted by his village, which ignores his warnings of apocalyptic doom and makes him a tormented Cassandra figure.
Musically, this is Maiden at their Proggiest, with abrupt, stop-on-a-dime transitions between riffs, tempos, time signatures, and song sections. Yet nearly every song has a memorable chorus, with only "The Prophecy" falling short in that department. They've also switched from the guitar synths of "Somewhere In Time" to full-fledged keyboards, which are used here more to add atmosphere rather than taking center stage; this restores the crunch that was sometimes lacking in the shinier production of the previous album. No less than four of this album's eight songs reached the British Top Ten in some version (concert standard "Can I Play with Madness", "The Evil That Men Do", "The Clairvoyant" and "Infinite Dreams"), while the album became the band's first U.K. chart-topper since "The Number Of The Beast". The title track is this album's extended epic (though the songs are longer in general), and it's moved out of the closing spot in yet another subtle statement about shaking things up. If "Seventh Son" doesn't epitomize their sound or define an era the way the first three Dickinson albums did, it nonetheless ranks among their best work! Adrian Smith left the band after this record, closing the book on Maiden's classic period and heralding a dire - and distressingly immediate - creative decline.
It is the second Iron Maiden release to feature keyboards (played by Michael Kenney) and, along with “The Number of the Beast” and, later, “Fear of the Dark” and “The Final Frontier”, debuted at no.1 in the UK charts.

It was released on 25 August 2006 in Italy and Finland, and 28 August worldwide, excluding the United States, Canada and Japan on 5 September 2006. 
“A Matter Of Life And Death” puts emphasis on creating atmospheres befitting the darker lyrical themes and long sprawling epics with changes in tempo and dynamics, in contrast to the riff-driven music of the band's early days. This darker direction of the lyrical viewpoint can even be seen in the shorter songs "Different World" and "The Pilgrim".
In order to provide a more "live" sound, the album was not mastered. No added EQ, compression, analog widening, etc.
At 72 minutes, “A Matter Of Life And Death” is the band's second longest album, exceeding 1995's “The X Factor” by approximately one minute, and exceeded by 2010's “The Final Frontier” by approximately four minutes.
It is the first album in Iron Maiden's career to enter the U.S. Billboard charts in the top 10, achieving significant chart success in many other countries as well.

The sixth official re-release of the debut full-length album by the legendary British Heavy Metal band.
Album was released by EMI in the UK on Harvest/Capitol Records, and a few months later in the US on Sanctuary Records/Columbia Records. The US release also included the song "Sanctuary", only released in the UK as a single. In 1998, along with the rest of the band's pre-"X Factor" releases, Iron Maiden was remastered with "Sanctuary" added in all territories.
There may be no better place to hear how both Punk and Prog Rock informed the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal than Iron Maiden's self-titled debut. Often overlooked and overshadowed by the glorious Bruce Dickinson years, it's easy to forget that Iron Maiden was itself a game-changer when it appeared on the scene in 1980. That year also saw important albums from Motörhead, Saxon and Angel Witch, but Iron Maiden vaulted its creators to the head of the NWOBHM pack, reaching the U.K. Top Five and establishing them as an outfit with the talent to build on Judas Priest's late-'70s innovations. On the one hand, Iron Maiden was clearly drawing from elements of Punk Rock - the raw D.I.Y. production, the revved-up velocities and the vocals of rough-and-ready growler Paul Di'Anno, who looked and sounded not like a Metal god, but rather a short-haired street tough. On the other hand, Maiden had all the creative ambition of a Prog Rock band.
Compositionally, even their shortest and most straightforward songs featured abrupt changes in tempo and feel. Their musicianship was already light years beyond Punk, with complicated instrumental passages between guitarists Dave Murray and Dennis Stratton and bassist Steve Harris. When Murray and Stratton harmonize their leads, they outdo even Priest's legendary tandem in terms of pure speed. The lyrics have similarly high-flying aspirations, spinning first-person stories and character sketches with a flair for the seedy and the grotesque. Add it all up, and Iron Maiden performs the neat trick of reconciling two genres seemingly antithetical to one another, using post-Judas Priest Heavy Metal as the meeting ground.
Although Iron Maiden have since criticized the quality of the album's production, the release was met with critical and commercial acclaim, debuting at No. 4 in the UK Albums Chart as well as achieving prominence for the band in mainland Europe. "Iron Maiden" is one of two Iron Maiden albums listed in "1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die" ("The Number Of The Beast" is the other).

Third re-release of the first official live album by the legendary British Heavy Metal band.
Iron Maiden's World Slavery Tour was one of the longest and most extensive tours ever undertaken by a Rock band.
Lasting from August 9, 1984, to July 5, 1985, and visiting such countries as Poland, Austria, Hungry, Yugoslavia, Italy, France, Spain, Portugal, Scotland, England, Germany, Sweden, Canada, Japan and the U.S., the show included a mammoth setup that replicated the intricate ancient Egyptian scenery of the "Powerslave" album cover.
As a "thank you" to the hundreds of thousands of fans who packed arenas the world over, the double-disc live set "Live After Death" was issued in 1985. Disc one is comprised of selections from a four-night stand at L.A.'s Long Beach Arena, with disc two comprised of performances from London's Hammersmith Odeon.
The album is essentially a best-of of sorts, since most of their singles released up to this point are featured in all of their high-decibel glory, making it a near-complete overview.
"Live After Death" is easily one of Heavy Metal's best live albums!!

Remastered re-release on vinyl of the sixth live album, “Maiden England”, by the legendary British Heavy Metal band.
Originally it was released as a live video, filmed during “Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son” world tour which was dubbed Seventh Tour of a Seventh Tour. It was recorded at the NEC in Birmingham, England on 27 and 28 November 1988, released on VHS in November 1989, followed by a limited VHS/CD edition in 1994. In 2013, the full concert footage, including encores which were not featured in the original VHS, was reissued on DVD, CD and LP under the new title, "Maiden England '88".
"Maiden England '88" expands on the epic set of the original with a two-disc set. While this version only has three more tracks than its predecessor, it shows that a little change can go a long way, adding classics like "Run to the Hills", "Running Free" and "Sanctuary". Though it doesn't seem like much, these single cuts help to turn the live set into a more well-rounded listening experience, as the band forgoes the more far out tracks from "Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son" and "Somewhere In Time" in favor of some of their earlier, more direct work.
Whichever way you slice it, though, "Maiden England '88" is a solid concert that shows one of the most influential bands in Heavy Metal getting down to business and bringing some Epic Metal to an enthralled crowd, making it an easy recommendation for any Iron Maiden fans out there who haven't already checked this one out.

The second of three straight iconic Iron Maiden albums, "Piece Of Mind" marks the debut of what many regard as the definitive Maiden lineup, with the arrival of Nicko McBrain, who had recently left the Paris-based band Trust and has been Iron Maiden's drummer ever since.
Album was originally released on EMI Records in Europe and on Capitol Records in the U.S.; it was reissued later on Sanctuary/Columbia Records.
McBrain's ability to duplicate the complex patterns of the guitar and bass riffs gives the band a seamless ensemble unity. Even Steve Harris, whose busy basslines were never exactly groove-oriented, has never felt more integrated into the overall sound. Perhaps part of that feeling comes from the less frantic pace; the average tempo has slowed somewhat from the preceding album, and the hold-over Punk influences still present there have been completely eradicated. Instead, we get a few moodier, heavier pieces (especially "Revelations") that make the album darker-sounding overall. We also get greater involvement in the songwriting from Bruce Dickinson and Adrian Smith, whose themes are perfectly in tune with Steve Harris' epic storytelling. Nearly every song here was inspired by movies or literature, whether it's history, mythology, sci-fi, or fantasy; this approach got them tagged as a thinking-man's Metal band, and certainly provided a lyrical blueprint for Anthrax. No less than four songs are about battles and warriors, and a couple is about flying, underscoring the heights of the drama that the band is aiming for. The centerpiece of the album is, of course, "The Trooper", an all-time genre classic that boasts Murray and Smith's most memorable harmonized lead riff, plus that trademark galloping rhythm. A retelling of the Greek myth "Flight of Icarus" was the other British hit single, boasting an appropriately soaring chorus. Album opener "Where Eagles Dare" is the other flight song, recounting a WWII spy thriller and featuring one of McBrain's signature performances with the band.
If much of "Piece Of Mind" ranks as state-of-the-art Heavy Metal, it is true that the second half dips a bit from the first. "Quest for Fire" is many a die-hard fan's least favorite track from the glory years; the melody is rather stiff and simple, and the lyrics are about cavemen, rendering Dickinson's operatic a bit ridiculous. Among the serious-minded Maiden faithful, there's no less forgivable sin than silliness. Fans also bemoan the relative simplicity of the samurai tale "Sun and Steel". However, the album closes on a big, Progressive note with "To Tame a Land", an epic retelling of Frank Herbert's Dune that evokes the desert planet via Middle Eastern guitar melodies. In the end, even if "Piece Of Mind" is the most obviously inconsistent of the classic Maiden trilogy, its many high points are no less awe-inspiring, and it's no less essential for anyone with even the most basic interest in Heavy Metal!

"Powerslave" was released on 3 September 1984 on EMI in Europe and its sister label Capitol Records in the US.
The third in a trilogy of legendary Iron Maiden albums, "Powerslave" is frequently ranked as the fan favorite of the bunch, capping off a stellar run that sealed the band's genre-defining status. If "The Number Of The Beast" was the all-time Metal landmark, "Powerslave" is perhaps the quintessential Maiden album, capturing all the signature elements of the band's definitive era in one place.
The album opens with Maiden at their catchiest, turning in a pair of Metal classics right off the bat with the British hit singles "Aces High" (a high-speed ode to a WWII air battle) and the apocalyptic "2 Minutes to Midnight." Next we get an instrumental, "Losfer Words (Big 'Orra)", of the sort that Maiden periodically deployed to keep fans in awe of their technical chops. A pair of their best and most overlooked album tracks follows; "Flash of the Blade" and "The Duellists" exemplify the glory-minded battle hymns that made up such an important part of their lyrical obsessions, even if both are about sword fighting rather than modern military history. By the end of the album, we're seeing Maiden at their most progressive and ambitious. The seven-minute title track builds on the previous album's "To Tame a Land" with its use of Middle Eastern melodies, delving into Egyptian mythology for a rumination on power and mortality. This leads into the biggest, most grandiose epic in the Maiden catalog - "Rime of the Ancient Mariner", a multi-sectioned, thirteen-and-a-minute Prog-fest adapted from the Samuel Taylor Coleridge poem. Though it isn't exactly what you'd call hooky, its shifting moods and lofty intellectual aspirations made it a live favorite. This latter material helped ensure that "Powerslave" was the Maiden album with the biggest impact on the emerging Progressive Metal genre (which, in its earliest form, essentially fused Rush with this sort of Maiden material). In this context, "Back in the Village" gets somewhat lost in the shuffle; it's a thematic sequel to "The Prisoner", though not quite as memorable.
So even though we don't hear the Punk influences of old, "Powerslave" catalogs every major facet of the band's personality during the Dickinson years, and does so while firing on all cylinders. Perhaps that's in part because "Powerslave" is the first Maiden album to feature the same line-up as its predecessor, creating a definite continuity and comfort level. Or perhaps it's simply that we're witnessing a great band in its creative prime. Whatever the case, it's entirely arguable that "Powerslave" summarizes why Iron Maiden was so important and influential even more effectively than "The Number Of The Beast", at least on a purely musical level. It may not be quite as accessible, but it's every bit as classic and essential.
Album is notable for its Ancient Egyptian theme displayed in the cover artwork, lifted from the title track, which was carried over to the album's supporting tour. The World Slavery Tour began in Warsaw, Poland on 9 August 1984, and is widely regarded as being the band's longest and most arduous to date, as well as leading to the live album "Live After Death".
The album contains a musical re-telling of Samuel Taylor Coleridge's "The Rime of the Ancient Mariner", which uses pieces of the original poem as lyrics and is, furthermore, Iron Maiden's longest song to date (at thirteen minutes and 42 seconds in length).
Album debuted at number two in the UK charts, as a result of their record company's (EMI) third "Now That's What I Call Music!" pop compilation.

Recorded at the Rock in Rio festival, Brazil, 2001, on the last night of the Brave New World Tour.
With the reunion studio disc "Brave New World" failing to recapture the imagination and intensity of Iron Maiden in America and even in many places in the band's European homeland, going to Brazil seemed like a smart move. It was one of the few places that a quarter of a million people would turn up to see the act in 2001, and judging from the audience response, the band's set list didn't bother them much either. The band played to approximately 250,000 people - it's the second largest crowd of their career (the band's largest concert attendance was their 1985 Rock In Rio performance to an audience of 300,000) and with the relatively recent return of lead singer Bruce Dickinson and guitarist Adrian Smith to the band.
Show features many of band's most well-known tracks, including the eponymous "Iron Maiden" and "Run to the Hills", along with six songs from "Brave New World", such as "The Wicker Man" and the title track. Also performed were two tracks from the Blaze Bayley-era, "Sign of the Cross" and "The Clansman".
Iron Maiden are the pinnacle of Heavy Metal performers, with none acting as rivals. From the time they were young lads, to now as seasoned veterans, this six piece has never let the fans down, always performing to their utmost ability, with their utmost determination. "Rock In Rio" is literally what it sounds like for a quarter million people having their dreams realized, an experience that should be enjoyed by everyone who is smart enough to pick up this record!!

With "Somewhere In Time" Iron Maiden produces yet another classic album full of classic tracks! Album was released on 29 September 1986 on EMI in Europe and its sister label Capitol Records in the US. It was their first album to feature guitar synthesizers. All songs with the exception of "Wasted Years" featured guitar synthesizers. "Somewhere In Time" is notable for lacking any songwriting credits from lead vocalist Bruce Dickinson, whose material was rejected by the rest of the band. On the other hand, the record is also notable for the number of "fully formed" songs written by guitarist Adrian Smith, who wrote both of the album's singles: "Wasted Years" and "Stranger in a Strange Land". The record also marked a change for Iron Maiden, as it was their first to use synth, although this style was expanded on with their next release, "Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son", which used keyboard synthesizers instead. This was also their first studio album not to be released a year after their previous one, with the band insisting that they have more time "to get it right without hurrying for a change", comments Harris. It was also one of their most expensive records, with the bass and drums recorded in the Bahamas, the guitars and vocals recorded in The Netherlands and the mixing taking place in New York.
Since its release, it has been certified Platinum by the RIAA, having sold over one million copies in the US alone.
Iron Maiden has created an amazing album as usual, and it helped push their career further on for twenty more years!

When it comes to live Metal shows, it doesn't get much better than an Iron Maiden concert. They have released a ton of live albums, DVDs and even VHS tapes over the years. From 1981's "Live At The Rainbow" to 1985's "Live After Death" to 1993's "Live At Donington", every era of their storied career has been commemorated with a live release.
Recorded throughout their 2016 - 2017 The Book of Souls World Tour, “The Book Of Souls: Live Chapter” was released on 17 November 2017. Iron Maiden's tour in support of 2015's "The Book Of Souls" album spanned 39 countries and six continents. Instead of picking one show from that tour and featuring its complete setlist, nearly every song on the album is from a different show (two were recorded at Castle Donington, UK). It was produced by Tony Newton, with Steve Harris serving as co-producer. The album makes band's first live album since 2002's "Beast Over Hammersmith" not to be produced by Kevin Shirley.
Since the tour was in support of "The Book Of Souls", six tracks of "The Book Of Souls: Live Chapter" are from that album including the 13 minute-plus “The Red and the Black” and the nearly 11 minute “The Book of Souls.” The rest of the set includes hits from throughout their career. No matter where they were recorded, from San Salvador, El Salvador (“The Trooper”) to Wacken, Germany (“The Number of the Beast”) to Sydney, Australia (“If Eternity Should Fall”), the fans are equally enthusiastic. They don't just sing along to the lyrics, they sing along to guitar riffs and instrumental breaks with the same amount of gusto.
Frontman Bruce Dickinson battled cancer prior to this tour, with tumors on the back of his tongue and in his neck. He took some time off to recover, and his voice is back at full strength. His legendary pipes sound as good as ever, having no problem hitting the high notes when needed.
Maiden are such a well-oiled machine, with the triple guitar attack of Dave Murray, Adrian Smith and Janick Gers operating at maximum efficiency. The rhythm section of Steve Harris and Nicko McBrain keep everything anchored, with Harris also co-producing the album.
One thing that's extremely refreshing is that after all these years, Maiden are still having fun. To adapt a line from Bon Jovi, on The Book of Souls World Tour Maiden played in front of two million faces, and they rocked them all! You'll hear it in all its glory on "The Book Of Souls: Live Chapter"!!

The sixteenth full-length studio album by legendary British Heavy Metal band.
To say that Iron Maiden's "The Book Of Souls" was ardently anticipated would be a vast understatement. Though it was (mostly) finished in 2014, vocalist Bruce Dickinson's cancer diagnosis and treatment delayed its release until he was medically cleared.
While 2006's "A Matter Of Life And Death" and 2010's "The Final Frontier" showcased longer songs, "Book Of Souls" is epic by comparison.
This is band's first studio double album, and therefore also their longest to date, with a total length of 92 minutes. It has contains the band's longest song, "Empire of the Clouds", plus three of 11 tracks are over ten minutes. The album marks the longest gap between studio releases in the band's entire career, at five years.
Steve Harris contributed one solo composition, and co-wrote six tracks with various bandmates. Dickinson - for the first time since "Powerslave" - wrote two solo tunes, the album's bookends, and collaborated on two more. The music is cleanly divided between the two discs. The first is tight; it offers a bit of everything that makes Iron Maiden. It is seemingly self-contained.
Dickinson's "If Eternity Should Fail" is an impressive showcase for his voice. Its dark intro and atmospherics are eventually transformed into one of the heaviest tunes Maiden's recorded in a dig's age, but he climbs above the sonic mass. "Speed of Light" is a burner. Dickinson's fury is accompanied by a Rock'N'Rolling riff, soaring Metal guitar fills, and Nicko McBrain's grooving drums. Harris' 13-minute "The Red and the Black" has a martial tempo and chant that recalls "Rime Of The Ancient Mariner". It's followed by "When the River Runs Deep", a chugging Hard Rocker with all three guitarists challenging one another. The title cut is theatrical, as acoustic guitar and a sparse synth are filled out with a knotty riff and solo breaks, emerging as a slower, heavier headbanger.
By contrast, disc two is structured almost narratively; it slowly enlarges and expands to serve an unexpected conclusion. Opener "Death or Glory" is another crowd-catcher as Dickinson soars above thudding drums and guitar choruses redolent of Thin Lizzy. "Shadows of the Valley" is the only clunker. It's dull and predictable, a minor distraction that doesn't measure up to the set's ambition. "Tears of a Clown", written by Harris and Dave Murray, is for Robin Williams. It's a clamorous rocker, yet the lyrics and melody are simultaneously empathic and disconsolate. "The Man of Sorrows" follows expertly, progressing from meandering ballad to theatrical Hard Rock. Dickinson's 18-minute "Empire of the Clouds" is about the R101 airship disaster of 1930. It's Maiden's longest song, but a grand conclusion. He plays majestic classical piano throughout, as tasteful, biting guitars create a complementary melodic labyrinth amid swelling orchestral strings. They add texture while McBrain's swinging drums add drama. It's a Heavy Metal suite, unlike anything in their catalog!
Producer Kevin Shirley does a stellar job capturing an "in studio" sound that allows for spacious dynamics and warmth without artificial mass. Who would have thought that after decades Iron Maiden would have an album as fine (let alone as long) as "The Book Of Souls" in them? With repeated listening it earns shelf space with their finest records!!
"The Book Of Souls" topped the album charts in 24 countries. It earned the band their fifth (first consecutive) UK No. 1, following 1982's "The Number Of The Beast", 1988's "Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son", 1992's "Fear Of The Dark" and 2010's "The Final Frontier". In the US, it matched "The Final Frontier"'s success on the Billboard 200, repeating the band's highest placement at no. 4. “The Book Of Souls” received the Album of the Year award at the 2015 Classic Rock Roll of Honour Awards, collected the 2016 Metal Hammer Golden Gold Award for Best Album, and won in the Best International Album category at the 2016 Bandit Rock Awards.

This was the debut of vocalist Bruce Dickinson in Iron Maiden and their last with drummer Clive Burr.
Routinely ranked among the greatest Heavy Metal albums of all time, "The Number Of The Beast" is the birth of Iron Maiden as we know it, a relentless Metal machine lifted to soaring new heights by the arrival of erstwhile Samson frontman Bruce Dickinson. Dickinson's operatic performance here made him an instant Metal icon, challenging even Rob Halford for bragging rights, and helped launch the band into the stratosphere.
The album's intensity never lets up, the musical technique is peerless for its time, and there isn't a truly unmemorable song in the bunch. Blessed with a singer who could drive home a melody in grandiose fashion, Steve Harris' writing gets more ambitious, largely abandoning the street violence of old in favor of fittingly epic themes drawn from history, science fiction, and horror. The exceptions are "22 Acacia Avenue", a sequel to "Charlotte the Harlot" that sounds written for Di'Anno's range, and the street-crime tale "Gangland", which Harris didn't write; though the Punk influences largely left with Di'Anno, these two definitely recall the Maiden of old. As for the new, two of the band's (and, for that matter, Heavy Metal's) all-time signature songs are here. The anthemic "Run to the Hills" dramatized the conquest of the Native Americans and became the band's first Top Ten U.K. single. It features Maiden's trademark galloping rhythm, which in this case serves to underscore the images of warriors on horseback. Meanwhile, the title track's odd-meter time signature keeps the listener just slightly off balance and unsettled, leading into the most blood-curdling Dickinson scream on record; the lyrics, based on nothing more than Harris' nightmare after watching a horror movie, naturally provoked hysterical accusations of Satan worship (which, in turn, naturally provoked sales). "Hallowed Be Thy Name" is perhaps the most celebrated of the band's extended epics; it's the tale of a prisoner about to be hanged, featuring some of Harris' most philosophical lyrics.
Though some moments on "The Number Of The Beast" are clearly stronger than others, the album as a whole represented a high-water mark for Heavy Metal, striking a balance between accessible melodicism and challenging technique and intensity. Everything fell into place for Iron Maiden here at exactly the right time, and the result certainly ranks among the top five most essential Heavy Metal albums ever recorded! A cornerstone of the genre!!

They auditioned hundreds of vocalists including Doogie White, who at the time was in Rainbow, and even James LaBrie, of Dream Theater fame. Finally, in 1994, Iron Maiden decided that Wolfsbane singer, Blaze Bailey, would be their next vocalist. After Blaze was brought on board, the band began writing new material for their next album, and in 1995 was released "The X Factor". The album was met with a mixed reaction from fans, but the band soldiered on and entered the studio in 1998 to record their eleventh album, "Virtual XI".
"Virtual XI" met the same fate as "The X Factor". It was even more unpopular among fans than its predecessor, and it suffered in sales, and is to this very day, the only Maiden album to not hit the 1 million mark. As of April 2009 "Virtual XI" had sold 84987 copies in the United States and more than 1050000 worldwide according to Billboard, making the album the poorest selling of the band's career.
The album is slightly unusual in the Iron Maiden catalogue for its extensive keyboard use. For this album, some keyboard parts were performed by band founder/bassist Steve Harris whereas on previous albums all the keyboard parts were handled by session musician Michael Kenney. The album also had a reduced song-writing input from Janick Gers compared to the previous Iron Maiden albums since he joined the band in 1990.
"Virtual XI" was the end of another era for Iron Maiden. Following the Virtual XI World Tour, Blaze Bailey left Iron Maiden and two former members, Bruce Dickinson and Adrian Smith returned. Overall, "Virtual XI" is a very long album to listen to, despite being only 53 minutes long. The album is very repetitive, and listening to it takes a lot of patience. However, it has a few gems, such as "Futureal", "The Clansman", and "Como Estais Amigos". With a little more variety, it could have been something special!

Remastered re-release of the eighth full-length studio album by the legendary British Heavy Metal band.
"No Prayer For The Dying" is one of the best Metal albums of 1990. Although it received generally mixed to negative reviews, the album peaked at No. 2 in the UK Albums Chart and contains the band's only UK Singles Chart No. 1, "Bring Your Daughter... to the Slaughter".
The album departed from the keyboard- and synthesiser-saturated Progressive Rock direction of the band's two previous studio outings (1986's "Somewhere In Time" and 1988's "Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son") in favour of a more "stripped down", straight forward style, reminiscent of the band's earlier material, which ushered in a change of vocal style for Bruce Dickinson from the operatic sound of the 1980s to a raspier way of singing. The album also departed from literary and historical lyrical themes in favour of more political content, with songs focusing on religious exploitation and social concerns. It's the only Iron Maiden studio album to date without a song exceeding six minutes in length and the only one to contain profanity in the lyrics.
Album marks band's first line-up change since 1983; guitarist Adrian Smith left the band during the pre-production phase, unhappy with the musical direction it was taking, and only having contributed to one song, "Hooks in You". Smith was replaced by Janick Gers, who had previously worked with singer Bruce Dickinson on his first solo-album, "Tattooed Millionaire", and had also worked with Ian Gillan and  White Spirit.
It was also the band's first release with Epic Records in the US, after the band left Capitol Records, but was sold through EMI for all territories outside the US.
The original 1990 version has cover picture where Eddie bursting from his grave and grabbing a grave-digger by the neck. As the band's manager, Rod Smallwood, disliked the figure, he asked artist Derek Riggs to remove him from the cover for the 1998 re-release, although the original artwork is used on the disc itself. Additionally an inscription was added to the plaque on the tomb, which Riggs had initially left blank to allow the band to add their own words, and reads "After the Daylight, The Night of Pain, That is not Dead, Which Can Rise Again".
Also this 1998 remastered re-edition contains a special enhanced CD-ROM multimedia section with videos, exclusive photo galleries, biographies, internet links plus a deluxe 24 page colour booklet with full lyrics, Eddie art and photos!!

When picking this album up, we could not help but notice the artwork. And art is not so good. Iron Maiden hired David Patchett to create the art with CGI. Apparently, his time cost the band enough money; the band stopped him because they thought the work was good enough as is, which the artist claimed was still in its prototype stages. The artwork would be notorious for its epic fail among the Metal community and placed on some worst artwork lists of Metal fans. Good thing this album is not judged solely on its cover, because “Dance of Death” is one of the better Iron Maiden albums!
"Dance Of Death" recalls prime Iron Maiden but with renewed vigor. Iron Maiden recorded the album the old-fashioned way: on analog tape, which adds a layer of warmth to the LP. "Dance Of Death" never sounds sterile or processed, unlike so many other Hard Rock and Metal bands recording in the digital age. But the record clocks in at nearly 70 minutes, making it somewhat long and demanding. Still, that’s a relatively small complaint for such a strong album. They still sound like they did in the 80's! Pure brilliance. One thing extremely unique on the album is that it has a great deal of orchestration and an almost Arabic-style vibe too, especially in "No More Lies" and "Dance Of Death". The rhythm guitar really tuned down heavy on the song "Montsegur". There were other powerful songs such as "Wildest Dreams", "Rainmaker", and the graceful epic "Paschendale". "Journeyman" is a 7-minute song with an acoustic, and it is real cool.
This album is not by any means a concept album, but the central theme of Death is recurrent in one form or another. This is their second studio release since the return of vocalist Bruce Dickinson and guitarist Adrian Smith in 1999. The album features the band's first ever fully acoustic track, "Journeyman", as well as their only song co-written by drummer Nicko McBrain, "New Frontier". The album was recorded on magnetic (analogue) tape.
Aside from the artwork, the 13th album by Iron Maiden is still a solid listen. After listening to “Brave New World” though, this album had to top the most successful album since 1988. Although it does not succeed in usurping that magnum opus, Iron Maiden proved that they still had a lot of energy left to write good music.
All in all, "Dance Of Death" is a pretty excellent Iron Maiden album. Many older fans will complain that there is nothing really new and ground-breaking here, but the band cannot release a "Piece Of Mind" or a "Powerslave" every time they put an album out on the market. "With Dance Of Death", they have done a brilliant Metal album that will still please some of the older generations, while introducing the newer fans to the world of Iron Maiden's great music in an even better way than "Brave New World" had already done.

Pure brilliance. One thing extremely unique on the album is that it has a great deal of orchestration and an almost Arabic-style vibe too, especially in "No More Lies" and "Dance Of Death". The rhythm guitar really tuned down heavy on the song "Montsegur". There were other powerful songs such as "Wildest Dreams", "Rainmaker", and the graceful epic "Paschendale". "Journeyman" is a 7-minute song with an acoustic, and it is real cool.
This album is not by any means a concept album, but the central theme of Death is recurrent in one form or another. This is their second studio release since the return of vocalist Bruce Dickinson and guitarist Adrian Smith in 1999. The album features the band's first ever fully acoustic track, "Journeyman", as well as their only song co-written by drummer Nicko McBrain, "New Frontier". The album was recorded on magnetic (analogue) tape.
Aside from the artwork, the 13th album by Iron Maiden is still a solid listen. After listening to “Brave New World” though, this album had to top the most successful album since 1988. Although it does not succeed in usurping that magnum opus, Iron Maiden proved that they still had a lot of energy left to write good music.
All in all, "Dance Of Death" is a pretty excellent Iron Maiden album. Many older fans will complain that there is nothing really new and ground-breaking here, but the band cannot release a "Piece Of Mind" or a "Powerslave" every time they put an album out on the market. "With Dance Of Death", they have done a brilliant Metal album that will still please some of the older generations, while introducing the newer fans to the world of Iron Maiden's great music in an even better way than "Brave New World" had already done.

Recorded at Westfalenhalle in Dortmund, Germany on 24 November 2003, during the Dance of Death World Tour (2003–2004), "Death On The Road" deviates little from Iron Maiden's countless other live shows. While blissfully heavy on the band's excellent - and suitably theatrical - new material, longtime fans do not need any more live versions of "Number of the Beast", "Hallowed Be Thy Name", "Run to the Hills", or "The Trooper". All that said, Iron Maiden do not disappoint, laying to waste any notions that they can't hold themselves to the performance standards of their younger days.
Even Bruce Dickinson, despite a voice that's now often more choked than feral, can barely keep himself from leaping into the crowd, and it's that kind of enthusiasm that makes each and every live release - and there are a lot of them - worthwhile to some degree!

This sophomore Iron Maiden's effort is mostly composed of pre-existing material that had been left off the debut, with just a few new additions. It's certainly a better-sounding release than the debut, with new producer Martin Birch beefing up the band's studio presence and lending their instrumental attack a newfound clarity that throws their considerable skills into sharp relief. In fact, this helps mask the fact that the songwriting isn't quite as strong overall as it was on the debut. But the teaming of new guitarist Adrian Smith with Dave Murray forms the most formidable twin-guitar attack in Heavy Metal, outside of Glenn Tipton and K.K. Downing. Plus, bassist Steve Harris' busy, driving lines are now consistently audible in the mix. The resulting instrumental fireworks are what truly make the album tick. That said, there's a much smaller percentage of catalog standards here than on the previous album.
"Wrathchild" is the standout, re-recorded here with Smith on guitar from an earlier version for the "Metal For Muthas" compilation. There's a fair bit of unity in the lyrical themes, with a parade of murderers, fugitives, and characters otherwise torn from their roots. "Murders in the Rue Morgue" is a first-person retelling of the Poe short story, and the title track is another highlight, with Paul Di'Anno turning in an especially menacing performance. The single "Purgatory" has a catchy singalong chorus and a tempo worthy of Motörhead, while "Twilight Zone" (not included on the U.K. issue, but added to subsequent releases) scraped the bottom of the British charts. The biggest departure here is the almost Supertramp-like Prog-Pop of "Prodigal Son," a melodic, uptempo offering with an arrangement based around acoustic guitars.
Despite some inconsistency in the material, "Killers" is clearly the work of a top-notch ensemble, and in order to take the next step forward, their musical ambitions were clearly going to require a vocalist as technically accomplished as the band. It's worth noting that some Maiden fans actually prefer the rawness of the Di'Anno years to the polish of the Bruce Dickinson era (though, it should also be noted, they're in the minority).
"Killers" is a monumental record, real Heavy Metal with powerful lyrics, real grit, a superb urban atmosphere, genuine heaviness and no pretentiousness! This is absolutely essential Metal classic!

First remastered re-release of the eighth full-length studio album by the legendary British Heavy Metal band.
"No Prayer For The Dying" is one of the best Metal albums of 1990. Although it received generally mixed to negative reviews, the album peaked at No. 2 in the UK Albums Chart and contains the band's only UK Singles Chart No. 1, "Bring Your Daughter... to the Slaughter".
The album departed from the keyboard- and synthesiser-saturated Progressive Rock direction of the band's two previous studio outings (1986's "Somewhere In Time" and 1988's "Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son") in favour of a more "stripped down", straight forward style, reminiscent of the band's earlier material, which ushered in a change of vocal style for Bruce Dickinson from the operatic sound of the 1980s to a raspier way of singing. The album also departed from literary and historical lyrical themes in favour of more political content, with songs focusing on religious exploitation and social concerns. It's the only Iron Maiden studio album to date without a song exceeding six minutes in length and the only one to contain profanity in the lyrics.
Album marks band's first line-up change since 1983; guitarist Adrian Smith left the band during the pre-production phase, unhappy with the musical direction it was taking, and only having contributed to one song, "Hooks in You". Smith was replaced by Janick Gers, who had previously worked with singer Bruce Dickinson on his first solo-album, "Tattooed Millionaire", and had also worked with Ian Gillan and  White Spirit.
It was also the band's first release with Epic Records in the US, after the band left Capitol Records, but was sold through EMI for all territories outside the US.
The original 1990 version has cover picture where Eddie bursting from his grave and grabbing a grave-digger by the neck. As the band's manager, Rod Smallwood, disliked the figure, he asked artist Derek Riggs to remove him from the cover for the 1998 re-release, although the original artwork is used on the disc itself. Additionally an inscription was added to the plaque on the tomb, which Riggs had initially left blank to allow the band to add their own words, and reads "After the Daylight, The Night of Pain, That is not Dead, Which Can Rise Again".

The fifth remastered re-release of the fourth full-length album by legendary British Heavy Metal band.
The second of three straight iconic Iron Maiden albums, "Piece Of Mind" marks the debut of what many regard as the definitive Maiden lineup, with the arrival of Nicko McBrain, who had recently left the Paris-based band Trust and has been Iron Maiden's drummer ever since.
Album was originally released on EMI Records in Europe and on Capitol Records in the U.S.; it was reissued later on Sanctuary/Columbia Records.
McBrain's ability to duplicate the complex patterns of the guitar and bass riffs gives the band a seamless ensemble unity. Even Steve Harris, whose busy basslines were never exactly groove-oriented, has never felt more integrated into the overall sound. Perhaps part of that feeling comes from the less frantic pace; the average tempo has slowed somewhat from the preceding album, and the hold-over Punk influences still present there have been completely eradicated. Instead, we get a few moodier, heavier pieces (especially "Revelations") that make the album darker-sounding overall. We also get greater involvement in the songwriting from Bruce Dickinson and Adrian Smith, whose themes are perfectly in tune with Steve Harris' epic storytelling. Nearly every song here was inspired by movies or literature, whether it's history, mythology, sci-fi, or fantasy; this approach got them tagged as a thinking-man's Metal band, and certainly provided a lyrical blueprint for Anthrax. No less than four songs are about battles and warriors, and a couple is about flying, underscoring the heights of the drama that the band is aiming for. The centerpiece of the album is, of course, "The Trooper", an all-time genre classic that boasts Murray and Smith's most memorable harmonized lead riff, plus that trademark galloping rhythm. A retelling of the Greek myth "Flight of Icarus" was the other British hit single, boasting an appropriately soaring chorus. Album opener "Where Eagles Dare" is the other flight song, recounting a WWII spy thriller and featuring one of McBrain's signature performances with the band.
If much of "Piece Of Mind" ranks as state-of-the-art Heavy Metal, it is true that the second half dips a bit from the first. "Quest for Fire" is many a die-hard fan's least favorite track from the glory years; the melody is rather stiff and simple, and the lyrics are about cavemen, rendering Dickinson's operatic a bit ridiculous. Among the serious-minded Maiden faithful, there's no less forgivable sin than silliness. Fans also bemoan the relative simplicity of the samurai tale "Sun and Steel". However, the album closes on a big, Progressive note with "To Tame a Land", an epic retelling of Frank Herbert's Dune that evokes the desert planet via Middle Eastern guitar melodies. In the end, even if "Piece Of Mind" is the most obviously inconsistent of the classic Maiden trilogy, its many high points are no less awe-inspiring, and it's no less essential for anyone with even the most basic interest in Heavy Metal!
“Piece of Mind” was a critical and commercial success, reaching No. 3 in the UK Albums Chart and achieving Platinum certification in the UK and North America.

"Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son" is the last great Iron Maiden album, reconnecting with the band's Prog Rock roots and reversing the signs of decline that had been evident on their previous record. By this point, Maiden had earned the respect of Metalheads the world over with their steadfast adherence to unadulterated Metal and their grandiose aesthetic. They'd made concessions neither to Pop-Metal nor to Thrash, and their passionate fan base would never have tolerated a radical reinvention. But what do you do when your epic ambition itself has become a formula? You go even bigger and make a concept album, of course, and that's what Maiden does here, breaking out of the creative rut they'd fallen into on "Somewhere In Time". The concept is based on the European folklore which held that the "Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son" would be born with special powers that could be used for good or evil (and probably also in part by fantasy author Orson Scott Card, who'd touched on this idea in his own work). As such, the lyrics are Maiden at their most gothic, obsessed with supernatural mysticism of all stripes; the story line concerns the title character, born with a gift for prophecy but mistrusted by his village, which ignores his warnings of apocalyptic doom and makes him a tormented Cassandra figure.
Musically, this is Maiden at their Proggiest, with abrupt, stop-on-a-dime transitions between riffs, tempos, time signatures, and song sections. Yet nearly every song has a memorable chorus, with only "The Prophecy" falling short in that department. They've also switched from the guitar synths of "Somewhere In Time" to full-fledged keyboards, which are used here more to add atmosphere rather than taking center stage; this restores the crunch that was sometimes lacking in the shinier production of the previous album. No less than four of this album's eight songs reached the British Top Ten in some version (concert standard "Can I Play with Madness", "The Evil That Men Do", "The Clairvoyant" and "Infinite Dreams"), while the album became the band's first U.K. chart-topper since "The Number Of The Beast". The title track is this album's extended epic (though the songs are longer in general), and it's moved out of the closing spot in yet another subtle statement about shaking things up. If "Seventh Son" doesn't epitomize their sound or define an era the way the first three Dickinson albums did, it nonetheless ranks among their best work! Adrian Smith left the band after this record, closing the book on Maiden's classic period and heralding a dire - and distressingly immediate - creative decline.
It is the second Iron Maiden release to feature keyboards (played by Michael Kenney) and, along with “The Number of the Beast” and, later, “Fear of the Dark” and “The Final Frontier”, debuted at no.1 in the UK charts.

The man is simply on fire here, singing his heart out on every single track. His vocal lines here seem to have been given a lot more attention than on the last few albums, as this is a heavily theatrical and stylized performance that really elevates the album to another platform altogether.
The rest of the band are no slouches, however, as they have combined their creative talents to form a gestalt of majestic Maiden-style epics. Unlike the modernized and often gloomy direction their last few albums took, "The Final Frontier" soars and gallops with a newfound flame and energy that is, in the end, a kind of amalgam of their 80s albums’ styles all at once. When Iron Maiden's classic lineup famously reunited in the year 2000, their first new album, the quite excellent "Brave New World", neatly reconnected both musicians and fans with the band's heritage, while simultaneously promising a prosperous future still to come. The fourteenth full-length studio album by the legendary British Heavy Metal band.
It was released on 25 August 2006 in Italy and Finland, and 28 August worldwide, excluding the United States, Canada and Japan on 5 September 2006. 
“A Matter Of Life And Death” puts emphasis on creating atmospheres befitting the darker lyrical themes and long sprawling epics with changes in tempo and dynamics, in contrast to the riff-driven music of the band's early days. This darker direction of the lyrical viewpoint can even be seen in the shorter songs "Different World" and "The Pilgrim".
In order to provide a more "live" sound, the album was not mastered. No added EQ, compression, analog widening, etc.
At 72 minutes, “A Matter Of Life And Death” is the band's second longest album, exceeding 1995's “The X Factor” by approximately one minute, and exceeded by 2010's “The Final Frontier” by approximately four minutes.
It is the first album in Iron Maiden's career to enter the U.S. Billboard charts in the top 10, achieving significant chart success in many other countries as well.

The twelfth full-length studio album by legendary British Heavy Metal/NWOBHM band.
Released on May 30, 2000, album mars the return of longtime lead singer Bruce Dickinson (who left in 1993) and guitarist Adrian Smith (who left in 1990), as well as the band's first studio recording with their current three guitar line-up (six-piece line-up in total), as Janick Gers (who replaced Smith in 1990) remained with the band.
The album artwork and title song are references to the novel of the same name, written by Aldous Huxley.
The return of Iron Maiden's "classic" Dickinson/Harris/Murray/Smith/McBrain lineup (plus third guitarist Janick Gers) in 1999 led to an incredibly successful world tour that saw the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal legends commanding stages with the same unmitigated power and authority as they had during their mid-'80s heyday. However, the question remained as to whether the reconstituted band would be able to carry this momentum into a studio setting and recapture the songwriting chops of its glory years. This question made "Brave New World" one of the most highly anticipated Metal releases of 2000, and thankfully, the eventual answer to that question was a resounding "Yea!"
In fact, the album pretty much picked up right where the "classic" lineup had left off on 1988's "Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son": with a faithful rediscovery of Iron Maiden's best-loved sonic aesthetic and compositional quirks, updated only insofar as was necessary to measure up to new-millennium recording standards. In every other respect (and much like "Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son"), "Brave New World"'s meticulously orchestrated three-guitar attack still allowed for a greater sense of space than early Maiden albums (as well as the use of subtle keyboard textures in a supporting role), while boasting a beefier, in-your-face mix à la "Piece Of Mind" or "Powerslave".
The remarkable pipes of singer Bruce Dickinson actually seemed to have benefited from a less grueling touring schedule over the previous decade, and his renewed songwriting partnership with bassist Steve Harris (and other assorted bandmembers) yielded several new Maiden live standards such as punchy first single, "The Wicker Man", and the positively anthemic title track. Also, worthy of special mention were Harris' emotional solo copyright, "Blood Brothers", Adrian Smith's distinctive solo licks throughout "The Fallen Angel", and six-string stalwart Dave Murray's Arabian-flavored contributions to "The Nomad". These highlights notwithstanding, a more lucid appraisal revealed that "Brave New World" was no "Number Of The Beast", once the initial euphoria died down. But as comeback albums go, its excellence was undeniable, and announced not only Iron Maiden's triumphant return, but an important turning point in Heavy Metal's long, arduous climb back to respectability after years of critical abuse!!
The songs "The Wicker Man" and "Out of the Silent Planet" were both released as singles. "The Wicker Man"'s promotional radio release featured extra vocals in the chorus, not present in any other versions of the song.
“Brave New World” peaked at the seventh spot of the UK Albums Chart, and has since been certified Gold. In the United States, it debuted at No. 39th of the Billboard 200 chart, and registered over 307 000 copies sales on the Nielsen SoundScan system in 2008.

The fourth remastered re-release of the ninth full-length studio album by the legendary British Heavy Metal band.
It’s the third band's studio release to top the UK albums chart and last to feature Bruce Dickinson as lead vocalist until his return in 1999.
While 1992's "Fear Of The Dark" was definitely more of a return to form for Iron Maiden, it still wasn't quite on par with their exceptional work from the '80s. Easily an improvement over 1990's lackluster "No Prayer For The Dying", the album debuted on the U.K. charts at number one.
The opening "Be Quick or Be Dead" proved Maiden could easily hold their own with younger Thrash Metal bands, "From Here to Eternity" contained lyrics that seem better fitted for Mötley Crüe, while the expected epic album-closing title track would become a concert staple (all three tracks were released as U.K. singles). The serene "Wasting Love" proves to be one of Maiden's better ballads of the '90s, while the rockers "Fear Is the Key" and "Afraid to Shoot Strangers" are also standouts.
It was the first album to be produced by bassist and band founder Steve Harris, and last to feature the work of producer Martin Birch (who retired after its release).
The cover of album was the band's first not to be designed by artist Derek Riggs, whose contributions were rejected in favour of Melvyn Grant's. According to Iron Maiden's manager, Rod Smallwood, the band began accepting contributions from other artists as "We wanted to upgrade Eddie for the 90s. We wanted to take him from the sort of comic-book horror creature and turn him into something a bit more straightforward so that he became even more threatening". Melvyn Grant has since drawn several more covers for Iron Maiden, making him the band's second most-frequent artist after Riggs.
"Fear Of The Dark" ended up being the last album in eight years to feature Bruce Dickinson. This is a good thing, as Bruce admitted that he was not totally into singing for Maiden, and wanted to focus more on his solo career. This album is certainly different. They display what we all love about Iron Maiden. Maybe it's not the best horse in the Iron Maiden stable, but still a Rock-hard classic for most HM-fans! From other side this is a very good record, if not a great record like the Iron Maiden offerings before it!!

First remastered re-release of the debut full-length album by the legendary British Heavy Metal band.
Album was released by EMI in the UK on Harvest/Capitol Records, and a few months later in the US on Sanctuary Records/Columbia Records. The US release also included the song "Sanctuary", only released in the UK as a single. In 1998, along with the rest of the band's pre-"X Factor" releases, Iron Maiden was remastered with "Sanctuary" added in all territories.
There may be no better place to hear how both Punk and Prog Rock informed the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal than Iron Maiden's self-titled debut. Often overlooked and overshadowed by the glorious Bruce Dickinson years, it's easy to forget that Iron Maiden was itself a game-changer when it appeared on the scene in 1980. That year also saw important albums from Motörhead, Saxon and Angel Witch, but Iron Maiden vaulted its creators to the head of the NWOBHM pack, reaching the U.K. Top Five and establishing them as an outfit with the talent to build on Judas Priest's late-'70s innovations. On the one hand, Iron Maiden was clearly drawing from elements of Punk Rock - the raw D.I.Y. production, the revved-up velocities and the vocals of rough-and-ready growler Paul Di'Anno, who looked and sounded not like a Metal god, but rather a short-haired street tough. On the other hand, Maiden had all the creative ambition of a Prog Rock band.
Compositionally, even their shortest and most straightforward songs featured abrupt changes in tempo and feel. Their musicianship was already light years beyond Punk, with complicated instrumental passages between guitarists Dave Murray and Dennis Stratton and bassist Steve Harris. When Murray and Stratton harmonize their leads, they outdo even Priest's legendary tandem in terms of pure speed. The lyrics have similarly high-flying aspirations, spinning first-person stories and character sketches with a flair for the seedy and the grotesque. Add it all up, and Iron Maiden performs the neat trick of reconciling two genres seemingly antithetical to one another, using post-Judas Priest Heavy Metal as the meeting ground.
Although Iron Maiden have since criticized the quality of the album's production, the release was met with critical and commercial acclaim, debuting at No. 4 in the UK Albums Chart as well as achieving prominence for the band in mainland Europe. "Iron Maiden" is one of two Iron Maiden albums listed in "1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die" ("The Number Of The Beast" is the other).

Iron Maiden's World Slavery Tour was one of the longest and most extensive tours ever undertaken by a Rock band.
Lasting from August 9, 1984, to July 5, 1985, and visiting such countries as Poland, Austria, Hungry, Yugoslavia, Italy, France, Spain, Portugal, Scotland, England, Germany, Sweden, Canada, Japan and the U.S., the show included a mammoth setup that replicated the intricate ancient Egyptian scenery of the "Powerslave" album cover.

Iron Maiden's World Slavery Tour was one of the longest and most extensive tours ever undertaken by a Rock band.
Lasting from August 9, 1984, to July 5, 1985, and visiting such countries as Poland, Austria, Hungry, Yugoslavia, Italy, France, Spain, Portugal, Scotland, England, Germany, Sweden, Canada, Japan and the U.S., the show included a mammoth setup that replicated the intricate ancient Egyptian scenery of the "Powerslave" album cover.

The third in a trilogy of legendary Iron Maiden albums, "Powerslave" is frequently ranked as the fan favorite of the bunch, capping off a stellar run that sealed the band's genre-defining status. If "The Number Of The Beast" was the all-time Metal landmark, "Powerslave" is perhaps the quintessential Maiden album, capturing all the signature elements of the band's definitive era in one place.
The album opens with Maiden at their catchiest, turning in a pair of Metal classics right off the bat with the British hit singles "Aces High" (a high-speed ode to a WWII air battle) and the apocalyptic "2 Minutes to Midnight." Next we get an instrumental, "Losfer Words (Big 'Orra)", of the sort that Maiden periodically deployed to keep fans in awe of their technical chops. A pair of their best and most overlooked album tracks follows; "Flash of the Blade" and "The Duellists" exemplify the glory-minded battle hymns that made up such an important part of their lyrical obsessions, even if both are about sword fighting rather than modern military history. By the end of the album, we're seeing Maiden at their most progressive and ambitious. The seven-minute title track builds on the previous album's "To Tame a Land" with its use of Middle Eastern melodies, delving into Egyptian mythology for a rumination on power and mortality. This leads into the biggest, most grandiose epic in the Maiden catalog - "Rime of the Ancient Mariner", a multi-sectioned, thirteen-and-a-minute prog-fest adapted from the Samuel Taylor Coleridge poem. Though it isn't exactly what you'd call hooky, its shifting moods and lofty intellectual aspirations made it a live favorite. This latter material helped ensure that "Powerslave" was the Maiden album with the biggest impact on the emerging Progressive Metal genre (which, in its earliest form, essentially fused Rush with this sort of Maiden material). In this context, "Back in the Village" gets somewhat lost in the shuffle; it's a thematic sequel to "The Prisoner", though not quite as memorable.

First re-release of the seventh live album by the legendary British Heavy Metal band.
Recorded at the Rock in Rio festival, Brazil, 2001, on the last night of the Brave New World Tour.
With the reunion studio disc "Brave New World», failing to recapture the imagination and intensity of Iron Maiden in America and even in many places in the band's European homeland, going to Brazil seemed like a smart move. It was one of the few places that a quarter of a million people would turn up to see the act in 2001, and judging from the audience response, the band's set list didn't bother them much either. The band played to approximately 250,000 people - it's the second largest crowd of their career (the band's largest concert attendance was their 1985 Rock In Rio performance to an audience of 300,000) and with the relatively recent return of lead singer Bruce Dickinson and guitarist Adrian Smith to the band.
Show features many of band's most well-known tracks, including the eponymous "Iron Maiden" and "Run to the Hills", along with six songs from "Brave New World", such as "The Wicker Man" and the title track. Also performed were two tracks from the Blaze Bayley-era, "Sign of the Cross" and "The Clansman".
Iron Maiden are the pinnacle of Heavy Metal performers, with none acting as rivals. From the time they were young lads, to now as seasoned veterans, this six piece has never let the fans down, always performing to their utmost ability, with their utmost determination. "Rock In Rio" is literally what it sounds like for a quarter million people having their dreams realized, an experience that should be enjoyed by everyone who is smart enough to pick up this record!!

Deluxe Edition of the sixteenth full-length studio album by legendary British Heavy Metal band.
To say that Iron Maiden's "The Book Of Souls" was ardently anticipated would be a vast understatement. Though it was (mostly) finished in 2014, vocalist Bruce Dickinson's cancer diagnosis and treatment delayed its release until he was medically cleared.
While 2006's "A Matter Of Life And Death" and 2010's "The Final Frontier" showcased longer songs, "Book Of Souls" is epic by comparison.
This is band's first studio double album, and therefore also their longest to date, with a total length of 92 minutes. It has contains the band's longest song, "Empire of the Clouds", plus three of 11 tracks are over ten minutes. The album marks the longest gap between studio releases in the band's entire career, at five years.
Steve Harris contributed one solo composition, and co-wrote six tracks with various bandmates. Dickinson - for the first time since "Powerslave" - wrote two solo tunes, the album's bookends, and collaborated on two more. The music is cleanly divided between the two discs. The first is tight; it offers a bit of everything that makes Iron Maiden. It is seemingly self-contained.
Dickinson's "If Eternity Should Fail" is an impressive showcase for his voice. Its dark intro and atmospherics are eventually transformed into one of the heaviest tunes Maiden's recorded in a dig's age, but he climbs above the sonic mass. "Speed of Light" is a burner. Dickinson's fury is accompanied by a Rock'N'Rolling riff, soaring Metal guitar fills, and Nicko McBrain's grooving drums. Harris' 13-minute "The Red and the Black" has a martial tempo and chant that recalls "Rime Of The Ancient Mariner". It's followed by "When the River Runs Deep", a chugging Hard Rocker with all three guitarists challenging one another. The title cut is theatrical, as acoustic guitar and a sparse synth are filled out with a knotty riff and solo breaks, emerging as a slower, heavier headbanger.
By contrast, disc two is structured almost narratively; it slowly enlarges and expands to serve an unexpected conclusion. Opener "Death or Glory" is another crowd-catcher as Dickinson soars above thudding drums and guitar choruses redolent of Thin Lizzy. "Shadows of the Valley" is the only clunker. It's dull and predictable, a minor distraction that doesn't measure up to the set's ambition. "Tears of a Clown", written by Harris and Dave Murray, is for Robin Williams. It's a clamorous rocker, yet the lyrics and melody are simultaneously empathic and disconsolate. "The Man of Sorrows" follows expertly, progressing from meandering ballad to theatrical Hard Rock. Dickinson's 18-minute "Empire of the Clouds" is about the R101 airship disaster of 1930. It's Maiden's longest song, but a grand conclusion. He plays majestic classical piano throughout, as tasteful, biting guitars create a complementary melodic labyrinth amid swelling orchestral strings. They add texture while McBrain's swinging drums add drama. It's a Heavy Metal suite, unlike anything in their catalog!
Producer Kevin Shirley does a stellar job capturing an "in studio" sound that allows for spacious dynamics and warmth without artificial mass. Who would have thought that after decades Iron Maiden would have an album as fine (let alone as long) as "The Book Of Souls" in them? With repeated listening it earns shelf space with their finest records!!
"The Book Of Souls" topped the album charts in 24 countries. It earned the band their fifth (first consecutive) UK No. 1, following 1982's "The Number Of The Beast", 1988's "Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son", 1992's "Fear Of The Dark" and 2010's "The Final Frontier". In the US, it matched "The Final Frontier"'s success on the Billboard 200, repeating the band's highest placement at no. 4. “The Book Of Souls” received the Album of the Year award at the 2015 Classic Rock Roll of Honour Awards, collected the 2016 Metal Hammer Golden Gold Award for Best Album, and won in the Best International Album category at the 2016 Bandit Rock Awards.

The tenth full-length studio album by the legendary British Heavy Metal band.
Band's first album to include vocalist Blaze Bayley, formerly of Wolfsbane, replacing Bruce Dickinson who left the band following their previous tour to pursue a solo career.
It is considered Iron Maiden's darkest album due to the lyrics being based on personal issues surrounding Steve Harris at the time, who was in the midst of a divorce, and the album cover, which depicts the band's mascot, Eddie, being undergoing another lobotomy. Cover was created by Hugh Syme.
Suffering from a lack of powerful riffs and tightly written songs, "The X Factor" is a lackluster album from Iron Maiden. Although the band doesn't sound particularly bad on the record, they don't sound inspired and there's a noticeable lack of energy to the performances which makes the lack of imagination all the more apparent. There are a few cuts that almost deliver the goods, but it's not enough to raise "The X Factor" above the merely adequate. "The X Factor" suffers from the same bloat that plagued countless other Rock and Metal records in the 1990s, as bands exploited the 79-minute running time of the compact disc; but even with a few filler tracks, it's still a much stronger effort than either "No Prayer For The Dying" or "Fear Of The Dark". With Bayley possessing a more baritone voice, Harris' songwriting took on a much darker tone to complement it, and that adjustment he makes yields an opening half hour that's shockingly good. The Falling Down-inspired "Man on the Edge" is an explosive, raw little rocker in the same vein as "Be Quick or Be Dead", "Lord of the Flies" is not only an effective retelling of the William Golding story, but an effectively hooky tune, and "Fortunes of War" is a workmanlike exercise within that classic Maiden template, shifting from a forlorn ballad to a lively, Harris-driven gallop.
"The X Factor" is nowhere near as awful as people say it is. In fact, at times it's pretty damn great!

The eleventh full-length studio album by the legendary British Heavy Metal band.
It was the second and final Iron Maiden album recorded with vocalist Blaze Bayley.
In 1993, Iron Maiden and their popular vocalist, Bruce Dickinson, parted ways. Not going to be stopped by the loss of their 11 year singer, the band began the search for their new front man. They auditioned hundreds of vocalists including Doogie White, who at the time was in Rainbow, and even James LaBrie, of Dream Theater fame. Finally, in 1994, Iron Maiden decided that Wolfsbane singer, Blaze Bailey, would be their next vocalist. After Blaze was brought on board, the band began writing new material for their next album, and in 1995 was released "The X Factor". The album was met with a mixed reaction from fans, but the band soldiered on and entered the studio in 1998 to record their eleventh album, "Virtual XI".
"Virtual XI" met the same fate as "The X Factor". It was even more unpopular among fans than its predecessor, and it suffered in sales, and is to this very day, the only Maiden album to not hit the 1 million mark. As of April 2009 "Virtual XI" had sold 84987 copies in the United States and more than 1050000 worldwide according to Billboard, making the album the poorest selling of the band's career.
The album is slightly unusual in the Iron Maiden catalogue for its extensive keyboard use. For this album, some keyboard parts were performed by band founder/bassist Steve Harris whereas on previous albums all the keyboard parts were handled by session musician Michael Kenney. The album also had a reduced song-writing input from Janick Gers compared to the previous Iron Maiden albums since he joined the band in 1990.
"Virtual XI" was the end of another era for Iron Maiden. Following the Virtual XI World Tour, Blaze Bailey left Iron Maiden and two former members, Bruce Dickinson and Adrian Smith returned. Overall, "Virtual XI" is a very long album to listen to, despite being only 53 minutes long. The album is very repetitive, and listening to it takes a lot of patience. However, it has a few gems, such as "Futureal", "The Clansman", and "Como Estais Amigos". With a little more variety, it could have been something special!

Meanwhile, the title track's odd-meter time signature keeps the listener just slightly off balance and unsettled, leading into the most blood-curdling Dickinson scream on record; the lyrics, based on nothing more than Harris' nightmare after watching a horror movie, naturally provoked hysterical accusations of Satan worship (which, in turn, naturally provoked sales). "Hallowed Be Thy Name" is perhaps the most celebrated of the band's extended epics; it's the tale of a prisoner about to be hanged, featuring some of Harris' most philosophical lyrics.

The film follows the band on the first leg of their Somewhere Back in Time World Tour between February and March 2008. It was shot in high-definition video with accompanying 5.1 surround sound produced by Kevin Shirley (who has worked with the band since their 2000 album “Brave New World”). It was distributed by EMI (except in the U.S., where it was distributed by Universal Music Group) in select digital theatres on April 21, 2009.
