The 80s had been a bad time for Alice Cooper. Nondescript albums and failed attempts at flirting with other musical tendencies had left the Shock King dangerously close to losing most of the fanbase he had garnered in the 70s. Even the perfectly decent albums, like 1985’s "Constrictor", failed to convince or impress the fans, who longed for the halcyon days of "Killer". A comeback of sorts was made with 1988’s "Trash", an album that showed Alice revitalized and updated for the new decade, and flirting with the “in” sounds of the late 80s, namely Glam Rock. In view of that album’s acceptance and success, the exact same template was used for "Trash"’s follow-up, 1990s "Hey Stoopid". The results were, again, above average, even if this album is not as highly regarded as its predecessor.
For "Hey Stoopid", Alice takes his cues from what was still popular at the time: the vibrant, gushy, shiny Hard Rock of bands like Poison, Warrant or Firehouse. It comes as no surprise, then, that "Burning Our Bed" comes across as something Guns’n’Roses may have written at the time, or that the overall sound relies heavily on the huge crunchy riffs, sweeping keyboards and shouty backing vocals of Glam Rock, while endowing them with an extra dosage of class.
Experienced artist and master songwriter that he is, Alice surrounds himself with the cream of the Hard Rock crop this time around. His “regular” band consists of guitarist Stef Burns, bassist Hugh McDonald, drummer Mickey Curry and keyboardists Robert Bailey and John Webster. However, the album is absolutely littered with guest appearances, including: Slash, Joe Satriani, Vinnie Moore and Steve Vai, Motley Crue’s Nikki Sixx and Mick Mars (who co-wrote “Die For You”), plus Ozzy Osbourne providing backing vocals on the album’s title track. Elvira, Mistress of the Dark, provided the spoken word part on “Feed My Frankenstein”, a song co-written by Zodiac Mindwarp.
The album was produced by Peter Collins, famed for his work with Rush and Queensyrche, among many others. The album featured three hit singles: the title track, “Love’s A Loaded Gun” and “Feed My Frankenstein” (the latter was performed in the 1992 comedy film "Wayne’s World", in which Alice also starred).
"Hey Stoopid" is heavily recommended to not only Alice fans, but Hard Rockers in general.

This compilation’s song versions were remixed by Jack Richardson at the time, with the remix of “I’m Eighteen” being released as a single in the US. The reason behind remixing the songs was perhaps to boost its appeal as "new" versions because no new tracks were available for inclusion by the group as they were on hiatus at the time. It does not include any material from their first two albums, "Pretties For You" and "Easy Action".

Following up the breakthrough success of "Love It to Death", Alice Cooper back with another album released the same year, producer again by Bob Ezrin.
The band's stage show dealt with the macabre, and such disturbing tracks as "Dead Babies" and the title track fit in perfectly. Other songs were even more exceptional, such as the perennial barnstorming concert standard "Under My Wheels", the melodic yet gritty "Be My Lover", and the tribute to their fallen friend Jim Morrison, "Desperado". The long and winding "Halo of Flies" correctly hinted that the band would be tackling more complex song structures on future albums, while "You Drive Me Nervous" and "Yeah, Yeah, Yeah" showed that Alice Cooper hadn't completely abandoned their early Garage Rock direction.
“Killer” is the third-most-represented album in Alice Cooper’s concert set-lists behind “Welcome To My Nightmare” and “Billion Dollar Babies”. With "Killer", they became one of the world's top Rock bands and concert attractions; it rewarded them as being among the most notorious and misunderstood entertainers, thoroughly despised by grownups!
The album reached number 21 on the Billboard 200 album chart, and the two singles "Under My Wheels" and "Be My Lover" made the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Johnny Rotten of the Sex Pistols and Public Image Ltd. called “Killer” the greatest Rock album of all time.

Throughout his long career, Alice Cooper has taken full advantage of how concept albums allow for more ambitious songwriting and memorable, layered characters who get more than one song to tell their stories. They're always tortured stories with social outcasts rebelling against turbulent childhoods or other traumatic whatnot, but this time the stakes are much higher. The storyline for the album was first revealed on Cooper's radio show "Nights with Alice Cooper". The theme of the album revolves around a "cool, calm and collected" serial killer known as Spider. The police are baffled by the bodies of Spider's victims, which are cocooned in a silk web, and are each missing a leg. Spider's task is to collect eight legs in order to complete the construction of his own spider. However, things get complicated when he falls in love with his eighth victim.
While the casual fan will feel that some of the less gripping songs are just here to move the story along, fanatics will gush as Alice once again acts as host and narrator and revives the character Steven, the young boy who broke all his toys on Nightmare. With a serial killer as lead and titles like "(In Touch With) Your Feminine Side" and "The One That Got Away", Alice fills his lyrics with clever and gruesome wordplay, but the winner here is the only plausible single, "Wake the Dead", which shockingly and shamelessly borrows the bassline from the Chemical Brothers' "Let Forever Be".
Guitarist Slash, Kiss drummer Eric Singer and background vocalist extraordinaire Bernard Fowler all make appearances, while Renaissance man Danny Saber handles the production with co-producer Greg Hampton, which appropriately sounds soundtrack big.
An easy recommendation for fan club members and/or serial killers!

Like "Brutal Planet", the album displays a heavier style than many of his previous releases. Unarguably a continuation of “Brutal Planet”, with Cooper and Marlette again collaborating, and Cooper surrounding himself with a tighter than tight band – Eric Dover, Tim Pierce, Ryan Roxie and Kenny Aronoff.
Cooper and Marlette, by now enjoying a collusive and confident songwriting relationship, fan that creative spark into something more substantial on "Dragontown". Here, Cooper is guided by a greater sense of social commentary and narrative complexity. He torques up the tension on funereal elegy, "Deeper" and laces "Sex, Death & Money"’s morality tale with dark humour. "Somewhere In The Jungle" and "I Just Wanna Be God" are less about the music and more about creating a clinging, dream-like atmosphere, where the message is hammered home by heavyweight guitars and pounding beats. This time around, a couple of more commercial (or at least accessible) tracks are to be found among the grim tales of alienation and materialism. "Triggerman" keeps a foothold in Cooper’s big chorus, big hook past, and the endearing ballad, "Every Woman Has A Name" add greater musical and emotional range to "Dragontown", providing radio with an opportunity to play Cooper’s new music, without compromising anyone’s position.
The album peaked on Billboard's Top Independent Albums Chart at #12, and the Billboard 200 at #197. This is the first Alice Cooper studio album to contain no Singles.

In the mid-'80s, Alice Cooper was able to crawl out of obscurity and rebuild his cult following. Though 1986's "Constrictor" and the supporting Nightmare Returns tour hardly commanded mainstream attention, the album and tour were his most successful in years, proving Cooper still had enough life to launch a full-fledged comeback. Not even a year after the release of "Constrictor", Cooper released "Raise Your Fist And Yell", which is more of a return to his dark thematic role than its predecessor.
The album continues the slasher film trend created by Cooper’s previous album "Constrictor". It's features the track “Prince of Darkness”, which is featured very briefly in the John Carpenter film of the same name, in which Cooper has a cameo as a murderous vagrant. The song can be heard on the Walkman of one of his victims. The track “Lock Me Up” features a guest appearance from Robert Englund, who portrayed Freddy Krueger in the "A Nightmare on Elm Street" series.
"Raise Your Fist And Yell" is the only Alice Cooper album to feature Ken K. Mary on drums and the second and last to feature Kip Winger on bass.
With "Raise Your Fist And Yell", Cooper embraced his past while still managing to sound fun and exciting. Overall, it still seems surprising that 1989's "Trash" completely deserted Cooper's menacing, villainous role. After all, "Raise Your Fist And Yell", though far from a highlight, showed Cooper was still able to provide both Rock anthems and theatrical experiments - and do it rather well, for that matter!

Musically, the album was a drastic change of style for Cooper, leaning towards a New Wave influence. After several self-indulgent albums in the late '70s ("Lace And Whiskey", "From The Inside"), Alice Cooper decided to reinvent himself as a New Waver for 1980's "Flush The Fashion". As a result of a hooking up with Cars' producer Roy Thomas Baker, the sound is glossier; Baker also replaced the gritty guitar riffs that served as the basis for past Cooper Rock compositions with icy synthesizers. Alice wrote most of these songs in conjunction with Elton John's longtime guitarist, Davey Johnstone, and his future keyboardist, Fred Mandel. This unusual combination results in an album that can best be described as The Best of The Cars sung by Alice Cooper (with just a dose of Huey Lewis & The News). As distinctly dissimilar from Alice's past work as such a thing sounds, the formula pays off for the first half of the album; the jangly guitars and prominent synth lines of "Talk Talk" and "Clones (We're All)" suggest that Alice could have a future here. His vocals might be unusually clean and the songs might be surprisingly friendly, but Alice is a true chameleon; he wears many colors and he wears them well, for the most part.
His classic Gothic Horror image of the 70's was replaced with stripped-down clothes, an uncomfortably clean-cut Alice Cooper sporting fully-tamed hair, a noticeable absence of makeup, and a lot less Alice than we're used to seeing.
1980 was not a good year for Alice, as evidenced by his corpse-like stare and fractured sense of self. He had no real band to speak of, and was fighting a losing battle with his career; the strong themes of missing identity in these songs offer insight into his mindset. It was a start of Cooper's "Blackout albums". It was around this time that Cooper relapsed into alcoholism, and his subsequent early-'80s releases ("Special Forces", "Zipper Catches Skin", "Dada") became more unpredictable and more uncharacteristic of the expected Alice Cooper direction and sound.
As an Alice Cooper album, "Flush The Fashion" makes no sense whatsoever. As an artifact of the New Wave tide that rose to prominence around that time, it sounds very dated, but not altogether kitschy; reasonably old-fashioned, but not drowned by being shackled to a fleeting point in time. A few gems like "Pain" still have charm, and after some time to assimilate it, the album isn't all that bad.
The best-known song of the album ended up being the cover "Clones (We're All)", which was in turn covered by the Smashing Pumpkins for their 1995 box set "The Aeroplane Flies High". Other highlights include the stately sounds of "Pain", the brief album-opening "Talk Talk", and one of the album's few riff Rockers, "Grim Facts".
The lead single "Clones (We're All)" peaked at No. 40 on the U.S. Billboard Top 40.
"Flush The Fashion", for its occasional successes, runs out of life quickly and, likely because of his questionable involvement, poorly captures Alice's true spirit and personality. It stands more as a forgotten point of interest that hardcore fans might find appealing than anything else.

"Welcome To My Nightmare" is a second official concert film of Alice Cooper, which features the concert show from the 1975 of the same title. It was produced, directed and choreographed by David Winters. The film accompanied the album, the stage show by the same name and the TV special "Alice Cooper: The Nightmare", the first ever rock music video album, starring Cooper and Vincent Price in person.
In 1975, Alice Cooper released his first solo album, "Welcome To My Nightmare", and a huge theatrical stage show was created and put together by Winters to 'tour the album'. While in the past the Alice Cooper stage show was semi-improvisatory, with confrontational elements of violence and satire ("Good To See You Again, Alice Cooper"), the new production was purely horror-themed and professionally choreographed and performed to the split second by David Winters. With the edginess removed (gone were the bloody guillotine, the spit and the skewered baby dolls, although "Only Women Bleed" presented a drunken, physically abusive side to the character), the "Welcome To My Nightmare" show was part of a carefully planned move toward a more mainstream-friendly Alice Cooper.
"Welcome To My Nightmare" was a phantasmagorical exposition of music and theatre themed around a nightmare experienced by a young boy named Steven. Costing $600.000 to produce, the show was a grand visual spectacle with an elaborate stage set, pre-filmed projections, four dancers, and elaborate costumes. Set in a graveyard/bedroom, a well-drilled band ran through the new album and a selection of older hits, while Alice encountered giant spiders, dancing skeletons, faceless silver demons and a 9-foot 'cyclops'.
Concert footage was taken from a series of London shows at the Wembley Arena on September 11–12, 1975. The film is out of sequence with the live show, and the final "Department of Youth" segment has some post-production inserts.
The film was a box office failure in its original 1975 release. However, like "Phantom of the Paradise", "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" and others, "Welcome To My Nightmare" later became a midnight movie favourite and a cult classic.
The film was first issued commercially on VHS in 1981, with numerous reissues since. A DVD issue was released in 1999.

“Trash” became one of Cooper's biggest albums, featuring "Poison", Cooper's first top ten hit since his Single "You And Me" in 1977. A successful year-long worldwide concert tour in support of the album was documented in the home video release “Alice Cooper Trashes The World”.
The album features many guest performances including Jon Bon Jovi, Stiv Bators, Steven Tyler, as well as singer/guitarist Kane Roberts, who left Cooper's band in 1988. Songwriting contributions were also made by Joan Jett, Diane Warren, Jon Bon Jovi, and Richie Sambora.
Probably, the best Cooper’s album and one of the best albums in Hard Rock/Heavy Metal history.

The 80s had been a bad time for Alice Cooper. Nondescript albums and failed attempts at flirting with other musical tendencies had left the Shock King dangerously close to losing most of the fanbase he had garnered in the 70s. Even the perfectly decent albums, like 1985’s "Constrictor", failed to convince or impress the fans, who longed for the halcyon days of "Killer". A comeback of sorts was made with 1988’s "Trash", an album that showed Alice revitalized and updated for the new decade, and flirting with the “in” sounds of the late 80s, namely Glam Rock. In view of that album’s acceptance and success, the exact same template was used for "Trash"’s follow-up, 1991s "Hey Stoopid". The results were, again, above average, even if this album is not as highly regarded as its predecessor.
For "Hey Stoopid", Alice takes his cues from what was still popular at the time: the vibrant, gushy, shiny Hard Rock of bands like Poison, Warrant or Firehouse. It comes as no surprise, then, that "Burning Our Bed" comes across as something Guns’n’Roses may have written at the time, or that the overall sound relies heavily on the huge crunchy riffs, sweeping keyboards and shouty backing vocals of Glam Rock, while endowing them with an extra dosage of class.
Experienced artist and master songwriter that he is, Alice surrounds himself with the cream of the Hard Rock crop this time around. His “regular” band consists of guitarist Stef Burns, bassist Hugh McDonald, drummer Mickey Curry and keyboardists Robert Bailey and John Webster. However, the album is absolutely littered with guest appearances, including: Slash, Joe Satriani, Vinnie Moore and Steve Vai, Motley Crue’s Nikki Sixx and Mick Mars (who co-wrote “Die For You”), plus Ozzy Osbourne providing backing vocals on the album’s title track. Elvira, Mistress of the Dark, provided the spoken word part on “Feed My Frankenstein”, a song co-written by Zodiac Mindwarp.
The album was produced by Peter Collins, famed for his work with Rush and Queensyrche, among many others. The album featured three hit singles: the title track, “Love’s A Loaded Gun” and “Feed My Frankenstein” (the latter was performed in the 1992 comedy film "Wayne’s World", in which Alice also starred).
"Hey Stoopid" is heavily recommended to not only Alice fans, but Hard Rockers in general.

Following up the breakthrough success of "Love It to Death", Alice Cooper back with another album released the same year, producer again by Bob Ezrin.
The band's stage show dealt with the macabre, and such disturbing tracks as "Dead Babies" and the title track fit in perfectly. Other songs were even more exceptional, such as the perennial barnstorming concert standard "Under My Wheels", the melodic yet gritty "Be My Lover", and the tribute to their fallen friend Jim Morrison, "Desperado". The long and winding "Halo of Flies" correctly hinted that the band would be tackling more complex song structures on future albums, while "You Drive Me Nervous" and "Yeah, Yeah, Yeah" showed that Alice Cooper hadn't completely abandoned their early Garage Rock direction.
“Killer” is the third-most-represented album in Alice Cooper’s concert set-lists behind “Welcome To My Nightmare” and “Billion Dollar Babies”.
