Another unforgiving attack of corrupted, disturbed metal extremity from Mika and his mad alcoholic Finns. A bastard mix of black metal, Motorhead-influenced biker rock, and Discharge-like hardcore, and the lyrics cover a familiar range of topics: death, suicide, hopelessness, religion, pain, and suffering. The sixth song of the album, “Suffer In Silence”, is dedicated to the band’s late guitarist, Teemu “Somnium” Raimoranta who died from falling from a railroad bridge a year prior to the album’s release.

The seventh full-length studio album by legendary Finnish Thrash/Black Metal band.
With the "Nihil" album, we could already notice a more polished style and music from Impaled Nazarene, because of the new guitarist on that album, Alexi Laiho. He brought with it many influences from the Melodic Metal he used to play with Children Of Bodom, especially on the lead guitars lines, while the rest was still quite brutal but with signs of change. To the always-present brutality by this band, there has now opposed a more care for the structures.
"Absence Of War Does Not Mean Peace" continues this way with more Thrashy riffs and an eye to the melody. The time of the pure Speed and Rawness seems quite far now even if the band has never forgotten the roots. Album welcomes us with blasting production that gives power and relevance to each instrument. The tempo is generally quite fast but the melody on the riffs is always present to make the whole song quite catchy too. The screams by Mika are always nasty but in some parts they are not like in the past, suffering a bit the steps of time.
Overall, this album will surely divide the new and the old fans of this band. The progression continues and the melodies are now far more important for Impaled Nazarene. However, the album is quite good even if it’s far from the sheer brutality of the early works but it’s always fast, just with an eye to the melody.
Although "Absence Of War" marks a rather distinct departure from their Black Metal roots, and positively reeks of Power Metal with a lot of the riffs, it is undeniably a Black Metal album through and through, and anyone who says otherwise has obviously never listened to it more than once. Moreover, it's highly recommended picking for anyone with even a remote interest in Extreme music of any sort. Even non-fans of Black Metal should be able to appreciate this gem!

Released in celebrating the 100 years of Finnish Independence, Limited Special Edition re-release of the third full-length studio album by legendary Finnish Punk/Black Metal band.
Just after one year from the hyper violent "Ugra-Karma", these Finnish crazy motherfu**ers are back in anger with another album that would have remained in history for the brutality and the sheer rawness of a band that never accepted any form of compromise and always conserved a mocking but shocking attitude. Once again, the hilarious components are heavily present also in this new album, starting from the title and passing through the songs on it.
The magnanimous gravity of “Ugra Karma” can’t be felt for most of the time, as the Cyber Black Metal grandeur of that album is really hard to repeat. But the band do their best to sound relevant and up-to-date, and to tell the truth this effort isn’t such a big step back with admirable attempts at diversity which some may have taken as new trajectories sketched, to be explored in the future. In fact, the album served a template that the guys have been following steadfastly for over twenty years now, sometimes trying to touch their “Karmic” masterpiece.
Luttinen and his ever-reliant team have no reasons whatsoever to worry about their voluminous discography; they’ve been doing really well raising the flag of Finnish Metal all the way from Heaven to Kingdom Come!
It's the last album to feature both Luttinen brothers. The album is infamous due to its nationalistic themes. The first part of the song "Total War - Winter War" is a cover of parts of the song "Total War" by the American Industrial band Non.
