The second full-length studio solo album by legendary German Hard Rock/Heavy Metal singer Doro Pesch.
Doro’s second album is more a solo effort than a band production. In fact, the German singer chose for herself a new musical direction, consciously separating the music creative process from normal band dynamics, the contrary of what she had always done in the past with Warlock.
The album production was put in the hands of Kiss bassist Gene Simmons, Doro's childhood idol. Simmons provided five songs, including the covers of The Electric Prunes' 60s Psychedelic hit "I Had Too Much to Dream" and of Black 'n Blue's "Rock On", and musicians coming from the Kiss' entourage to complete the recording. The song "Only You" is a Kiss cover from the album "Music From The Elder" (1981). He gave his protégé, Tommy Thayer from the band Black 'n Blue (another band Simmons produced), a chance to shine as co-producer of the album, along with Pat Regan. "I'll Be Holding On" is a cover of a Gregg Allman song from the 1989 film "Black Rain".
The resulting sound is much smoother and polished than any Warlock album, in the vein of many American Glam Metal recordings of the time, and the lyrics give up completely the Gothic atmosphere present in the offerings of Doro Pesch’s previous band.
Despite the commercial appeal of the music and the high economic effort in producing it, the album did not have the critical and sales success that was expected and remained the last studio album by Doro published in the United States for ten years. If released a few years earlier this album would have really catapulted Doro to new heights. But timing, along with a less than aggressive sound didn’t do the album any favors. Regardless, the album is amazing and shows the Queen of Metal at her very best!

The debut full-length studio solo album by legendary German Hard Rock/Heavy Metal singer and her band.
In the 1980s, Warlock was among Germany's most exciting Heavy Metal bands, which is saying a lot when you consider that Germany also produced Accept and the Scorpions. After the success of Warlock’s album "Triumph And Agony", which gained Gold status in Germany and reached the top 100 chart in the USA, former Warlock vocalist Doro Pesch remained the only original member of the band. Some legal issues about the use of the name Warlock were raised by the former band manager, and Doro settled the dispute, renouncing to issue any new album with the band’s name, but using her name instead for any new releases. However, the first print of the LP was issued with a sticker on the cover near Doro’s name with "+ Warlock" written on and for some fans "Force Majeure" should still be considered as the last album by Warlock.
Just like "Triumph And Agony", the album was recorded in the USA and produced by Joey Balin. Bass player Tommy Henriksen, who was part of the last line-up of Warlock, plays in this album too. The line-up is completed by drummer Bobby Rondinelli (Rainbow, Scorpions, Quiet Riot, Black Sabbath, Blue Öyster Cult) and guitarist Jon Levin, whose name was incorrectly reported as Jon Devin on the album sleeve.
Trying to follow the positive American feedback of the previous Warlock album, the songs of "Force Majeure" are even more oriented to radio-friendly Glam Metal than to the European Power Metal of Doro’s earlier works and include for the first time a cover, Procol Harum’s famous "A Whiter Shade of Pale". It's also an album that Doro can be proud of; even though "Force Majeure" isn't quite in a class with Warlock's best releases, it is definitely a strong Pop-Metal/Hard Rock outing. Doro, who co-wrote most of the material with Joey Balin, is focused and assured throughout the album - she is as passionate on driving rockers like "Angels With Dirty Faces", "Under the Gun", and "Hellraiser" as she is on the haunting ballad "River of Tears". Equally strong is Doro's inspired cover "A Whiter Shade of Pale".
The album sold quite well in Europe but had a limited success in the USA, reaching only the top 200 chart.
While Doro is generally decent, "Force Majeure" is more than decent - it is excellent! In fact, "Force Majeure" is arguably her strongest and most essential solo album!!

An even more important aspect, however, is the emergence of Don Henley as the band's dominant voice, both as a singer and a lyricist. On the six songs to which he contributes, Henley sketches a thematic statement that begins by using California as a metaphor for a dark, surreal world of dissipation; comments on the ephemeral nature of success and the attraction of excess; branches out into romantic disappointment; and finally sketches a broad, pessimistic history of America that borders on nihilism. Of course, the lyrics kick in some time after one has appreciated the album's music, which marks a peak in the Eagles' playing.

Three Singles were released from the album, with the title track and "New Kid in Town" topping the Billboard Hot 100 and "Life in the Fast Lane" reaching No. 11.

Ranked by various publications as one of the greatest albums of all time, it was placed at number 37 on Rolling Stone's list of the "500 Greatest Albums of All Time" in 2003 and 2012, re-positioned to number 118 in the 2020 edition. The band played the album in its entirety during the Hotel California 2020 Tour.

The band's first album with guitarist Joe Walsh, who had replaced founding member Bernie Leadon, who had given the band much of its country flavour, and the last to feature founding bassist Randy Meisner. The album cover features a photograph of the Beverly Hills Hotel, taken by David Alexander.
The Eagles took 18 months between their fourth and fifth albums, reportedly spending eight months in the studio recording "Hotel California". As a result, the album marks a major leap for the Eagles from their earlier work, as well as a stylistic shift toward Mainstream Rock. An even more important aspect, however, is the emergence of Don Henley as the band's dominant voice, both as a singer and a lyricist. On the six songs to which he contributes, Henley sketches a thematic statement that begins by using California as a metaphor for a dark, surreal world of dissipation; comments on the ephemeral nature of success and the attraction of excess; branches out into romantic disappointment; and finally sketches a broad, pessimistic history of America that borders on nihilism. Of course, the lyrics kick in some time after one has appreciated the album's music, which marks a peak in the Eagles' playing.
Early on, the band couldn't rock convincingly, but the rhythm section of Henley and Meisner has finally solidified, and the electric guitar work of Don Felder and Joe Walsh has arena-rock heft. In the early part of their career, the Eagles never seemed to get a sound big enough for their ambitions; after changes in producer and personnel, as well as a noticeable growth in creativity, "Hotel California" unveiled what seemed almost like a whole new band. It was a band that could be bombastic, but also one that made music worthy of the later tag of "Classic Rock," music appropriate for the arenas and stadiums the band was playing. The result was the Eagles' biggest-selling regular album release, and one of the most successful Rock albums ever.
"Hotel California" was an immediate critical and commercial success, topping the US Billboard 200 chart. At the 20th Grammy Awards, the title track won Record of the Year, and "New Kid in Town" won Best Arrangement for Voices. The album was also nominated for Album of the Year but lost to Fleetwood Mac's "Rumours" (1977). Three Singles were released from the album, with the title track and "New Kid in Town" topping the Billboard Hot 100 and "Life in the Fast Lane" reaching No. 11.

Band finally decided to listen to the fans' prayers and to take a step back, to disown that kind of weak Power Hard Rock of which their recent works were tainted, embracing again the sound Edguy mastered through the years. "Defenders Of The Crown" embodies once again the typical German Power Metal style: heavy, fast and cheesy, incredibly catchy, and with a stellar performance by Sammet and his bandmates. This album proves these guys are still hot and burning!
Quite ironically, while Avantasia was born from a rib of Edguy, now the first is bringing the latter back to life, since "Defenders Of The Crown" has many Avantasia traits. From the opener "Sabre & Torch", that many correctly matched with "Invoke The Machine" from 2013's "The Mystery Of Time", to the 9-minute closer "The Eternal Wayfarer", which just sounds like Edguy covering Led Zeppelin, everything is over the top and epic. But, obviously, this is Edguy. The fun traits of the band also shine here, both with Tobi's well-known antics spread over various tracks ("Do Me Like A Caveman") and in the rather unexpected cover of Falco's "Rock Me Amadeus". Some of you will cry while blessing your ears with it!

Remastered re-release of the fourth full-length studio album by legendary British Progressive Pop/Rock band.
Sub-titled "A Symphony By The Electric Light Orchestra", ELO's fourth LP was its first to feature an actual orchestra, as opposed to just overdubbed string parts. This is the album where Jeff Lynne finally found the sound he'd wanted since co-founding Electric Light Orchestra three years earlier. Up to this point, most of the band's music had been self-contained - Lynne, Richard Tandy, et al., providing whatever was needed, vocally or instrumentally, even if it meant overdubbing their work layer upon layer. Lynne saw the limitations of this process, however, and opted for the presence of an orchestra - it was only 30 pieces, but the result was a much richer musical palette than the band had ever had to work with, and their most ambitious and successful record up to that time.
Indeed, Eldorado was strongly reminiscent in some ways of "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band". Not that it could ever have the same impact or be as distinctive, but it had its feet planted in so many richly melodic and varied musical traditions, yet made it all work in a Rock context, that it did recall the Beatles classic. It was a very romantic work, especially on the opening "Eldorado Overture", which was steeped in a wistful 1920s/1930s notion of popular fantasy (embodied in movies and novels like James Hilton's "Lost Horizon" and Somerset Maugham's "The Razor's Edge") about disillusioned seekers.
This is a concept album about the lonely, romantic daydreams of a man desperate to escape the drudgery of his daily life, "Eldorado" weaves its songs into a dense, atmospheric tapestry that is essentially Pop-Prog. It boasted Lynne's best single up to that time, "Can't Get It Out of My Head," which most radio listeners could never get out of their respective heads, either.
Called "something of a triumph" by Rolling Stone at the time, "Eldorado" was later used by experimental filmmaker Kenneth Anger as the soundtrack to the 1978 re-release of his surreal 1954 film "Inauguration of the Pleasure Dome", which certainly speaks to the album's transportive, cinematic qualities.
The integration of the orchestra would become even more thorough on future albums, but "Eldorado" was notable for mixing the band and orchestra (and a choir) in ways that did no violence to the best elements of both.
In July 2010, the album named one of Classic Rock Magazine's "50 Albums That Built Prog Rock".
On June 17, 2015, the album ranked #43 on Rolling Stone's "50 Greatest Prog Rock Albums of All Time".

Due to a bunch of business related problems it took Florida’s Equinox quite a while to get this album out, but the result is definitely worth the long wait!
Equinox is one of the most underrated acts ever to emerge out of sunny Florida and “Journey Into Oblivion” a musical roller coaster ride through about an hour of classic Black/Death Metal. Unlike the current trend to blast as fast as you can, Equinox took a different direction and perform their material mostly very midpaced, partly Doomy and partly fast. Due to a bunch of business related problems it took Florida’s Equinox quite a while to get this album out, but the result is definitely worth the long wait!
Equinox is one of the most underrated acts ever to emerge out of sunny Florida and “Journey Into Oblivion” a musical roller coaster ride through about an hour of classic Black/Death Metal. Unlike the current trend to blast as fast as you can, Equinox took a different direction and perform their material mostly very midpaced, partly Doomy and partly fast. Clapton had worked with Kamen previously on film soundtracks (Rush, Lethal Weapon) so it was natural for Clapton to ask Kamen to arrange the music for orchestra.
The 13-song set on "24 Nights: Orchestral" includes stunning orchestral arrangements of “Layla”, “Sunshine of Your Love”, “Wonderful Tonight”, “White Room”, “Can’t Find My Way Home”, “Bell Bottom Blues’, “I Shot The Sheriff”, “Lay down Sally”, and “Crossroads”. A special highlight is the recorded debut of the 30-minute composition that Kamen wrote especially for Eric Clapton: “Concerto For Electric Guitar”.

"24 Nights: Rock" features 18 songs, has a running time of 2 hours 15 minutes. The Rock show line-up varied from 4, 9 or 13 band members, and the musicians included Nathan East, Ray Cooper, Greg Phillinganes, Steve Ferrone. The 4-piece in 1991 featured Phil Collins on drums.
Highlights of the songs performed include "White Room", "Layla", "Pretending", "Running on Faith", "Old Love", and "Lay Down Sally". The set also features excellent cover versions: a restrained Reggae rhythm version of Bob Dylan’s “Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door”, a Blues-Rock twist on the Bob Marley anthem “I Shot the Sheriff”, and the great J.J. Cale song “Cocaine”. The concert ends with the Cream classic “Sunshine of Your Love”.

It is Clapton's first collaborative project with Phil Collins, who co-produced the album and played on some tracks. While recording the album, Clapton temporarily split with his wife, Boyd. Clapton assuaged his pain by writing the song "Behind the Sun", featuring only his guitar and vocals along with Phil Collins' synthesizer, as the final song on the album.
Although he is universally considered among the most important figures in Rock & Roll, Eric Clapton has not had consistent success in translating his stature into record sales, partially because he is, in essence, a great Blues guitarist rather than a great Pop/Rock singer/songwriter. Clapton's career was in decline in the early '80s when he switched record labels from Polydor to Warner Bros., and his "Money And Cigarettes" new label debut became his first to fall below Gold record status in more than six years. As a result, Warner looked critically at his follow-up, the Phil Collins-produced "Behind The Sun", in the fall of 1984 and rejected the first version submitted, insisting that he record several new songs written by Jerry Williams, backed by Los Angeles session players under the auspices of company producers Lenny Waronker and Ted Templeman. Warner then emphasized the new tracks, releasing two of them, "Forever Man" (which reached the Top 40) and "See What Love Can Do," as Singles. Despite the tinkering, "Behind The Sun" was not among Clapton's best, although it went Gold after nearly two years in release.
After nearly a decade of Clapton's guitar playing taking a backseat to his singing/songwriting, this album contains several guitar solos. The album includes synthesizers and drum machines played by Phil Collins, Ted Templeman, Peter Robinson, Michael Omartian, James Newton Howard, Chris Stainton and Greg Phillinganes, as well as Clapton's Roland guitar synthesizer on "Never Make You Cry". Bassists Donald "Duck" Dunn from Booker T. & the MG's and Nathan East (later of the Smooth Jazz quartet Fourplay) also played on the album.
The Behind The Sun Tour was featured at the first Live Aid concert in 1985 where "She's Waiting" was performed along with "White Room" and "Layla". The video for "Forever Man" became an MTV favourite, featuring an accident where one of the cameras falls off the dolly.

Eric used the core of the duo's backing band and co-wrote the majority of the songs with Delaney Bramlett accordingly.
"Eric Clapton" sounds more laid-back and straightforward than any of the guitarist's previous recordings. There are still elements of Blues and Rock & Roll, but they're hidden beneath layers of Gospel, R&B, Country, and Pop flourishes. And the Pop element of the record is the strongest of the album's many elements. "Blues Power" isn't a Blues song and only "Let It Rain," the album's closer, features extended solos. Throughout the album, Clapton turns out concise solos that de-emphasize his status as guitar god, even when they display astonishing musicality and technique.
Since then, he's released nearly two dozen LPs under his name. And it's been kind of a roller-coaster ride for the guitar hero, with personal and professional setbacks often inspiring his work – from a crippling drug addiction (which kept him out of the spotlight for several years) to the death of his young son (which spurred a huge comeback hit).
Through it all, though, he's rarely lost the focus and drive that made him one of the most buzzed-about musicians in the '60s. While recent records may not be fuelled by the creative hunger that fed his best work, he's grown into his older years by playing the music that sounds right for him at this stage. If nothing else, Clapton has aged more gracefully than most contemporaries.

"Happy Xmas" is the first Christmas album by Eric Clapton, which includes 13 covers of Christmas-themed songs, both well-known and relatively obscure ones, arranged in a predominant Blues style, along with one new original song "For Love On Christmas Day" by Clapton and producer Simon Climie.
Eric Clapton's first Christmas record in a career that's spanned over four and a half decades, certainly bears its share of seasonal charm, but it's also of a piece with the warm, amiable music he's made in the 2010s. Like "Old Sock" and "I Still Do" before it, "Happy Xmas" relies on songs from other songwriters and cooks to a cosy groove that's grounded in the Blues but also encompasses Soul, Reggae, Rock, and a bit of Vaudeville shuffle ("Xmas in My Hometown"). This homey atmosphere is certainly suited for the season, even if it rarely sounds like a typical holiday record. Chalk that up to Clapton studiously avoiding a reliance on shopworn carols. When he does play an overly familiar tune, he switches it up: he opens up the affair with a Blues rendition of "White Christmas", "Silent Night" is given a Reggae bounce, "Away in a Manger" has a soulful underpinning, and he turns "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" into a seduction. These clever interpretations are nestled alongside nice holiday chestnuts, turning this into a comforting Christmas listen, so comforting that it makes the presence of "Jingle Bells (In Memory of Avicii)" more bizarre. Situated in the middle of the album, "Jingle Bells (In Memory of Avicii)" is a lite-EDM tribute to the late DJ and producer, a track that is perhaps more dexterous than Clapton's '90s electronica experiment T.D.F.
Proceeds go directly to Van Morrison’s charity for out-of-work musicians, called “The Van Morrison Rhythm and Blues Foundation”.
"Happy Xmas" will deliver cheery Christmas vibes to everybody!

Reuniting with producer Glyn Johns, the steady hand who guided "Slowhand" back in 1977, doesn't provide Eric Clapton with much of a jolt for this album, but it does provide the veteran guitarist with no small degree of nicely weathered warmth. Such mellowed good vibes are the calling card of "I Still Do", which otherwise proceeds along the same path Clapton's records follow in the 21st century: he blends covers of well-worn Blues standards with a couple of J.J. Cale tunes, a few old Pop standards, a Bob Dylan chestnut, and original songs that draw upon aspects of all of these.
"Spiral" and "Catch the Blues", the two EC originals that anchor the middle of the album, are handsomely crafted tunes that complement the rest of the record; they don't draw attention to themselves but rather show how hard "Cypress Grove" swings and how "Alabama Woman Blues" crawls, and reveal the lightness of "I Dreamed I Saw St. Augustine" and "Little Man, You've Had a Busy Day".
Although "I'll Be Seeing You" ends with "I Still Do" on a bit of a wistful note, this album is neither melancholy nor some kind of summation. It is simply Clapton being Clapton, enjoying the company of his longtime band and songs he's loved, and here he's fortunate enough to be produced by Johns, whose expert touch gives this weight and colour absent from the otherwise amiable "Old Sock". That's enough to give "I Still Do" some resonance, because Johns focuses not on the songs but the interplay: it's not a vibe record so much as it's an album about the interplay of old pros, who still get a kick playing those same old changes years after they've become second nature.
