Despite the moderate success of "7800° Fahrenheit", Bon Jovi weren't becoming the superstars they had hoped, and they changed their approach for their next album, going for a more mainstream sound than their heavier first two records. "Slippery When Wet" wasn't just a breakthrough album for Bon Jovi; it was a breakthrough for Hair Metal in general, marking the point where the genre officially entered the mainstream. Released in 1986, it presented a streamlined combination of Pop, Hard Rock and Metal, that appealed to everyone - especially girls, whom traditional Heavy Metal often ignored.
Hiring professional songwriter Desmond Child as a collaborator, the band wrote 30 songs and auditioned them for local New Jersey and New York teenagers, basing the album's running order on their opinions. Much of the album's content was written by Jon Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora, except "You Give Love A Bad Name", "Livin' on a Prayer", "Without Love" and "I'd Die For You", which were co-written by Desmond Child.
The album went through various name changes during its inception. The main working title was "Wanted Dead Or Alive"; later the band decided to name the album "Slippery When Wet" after visiting The Number 5 Orange Stripclub in Vancouver. "Slippery When Wet" was an instant commercial success. The album features songs that are today considered Bon Jovi's most well-known tracks, such as "You Give Love a Bad Name", "Livin' on a Prayer" and "Wanted Dead or Alive".
Between 1986 and 1987, "Slippery When Wet" produced an amazing string of hit singles, including three Top 10 Billboard Hot 100 hits, two of which ("You Give Love A Bad Name" and "Livin' On A Prayer") reached No. 1, making Bon Jovi the first Hard Rock band to ever have two consecutive No. 1 Billboard Hot 100 chart hits. Boney M.'s follow-up to their 1976 success "Take The Heat Off Me" closely adheres to the formula established by that album: a combination of original songs and offbeat cover versions done in a style that marries bubblegum Pop hooks to a Disco beat. Like its predecessor, "Love For Sale" also scored some notable international hits: "Ma Baker" is a colourful gangster story that boasts a stuttered vocal hook guaranteed to stick in the listener's head, and "Belfast" is an up-tempo dancefloor stormer, that works some surprisingly heavy sounding power chords into the group's slick dancefloor sound. Frank Farian's slick, lush production ensures that the album is a slick piece of ear candy from start to finish.

Frank Farian's slick, lush production ensures that the album is a slick piece of ear candy from start to finish.

The ninth full-length studio album by cult Japanese Hard Rock/Heavy Metal band.
Bow Wow was one of the first Japanese bands to prove that domestic musicians could compete with Western Hard Rock acts. The band formed in 1975 by record producer Yoshimi Ueno, and was one of the first Japanese Metal bands. They were quickly signed to Victor and used the money to buy a truck that could double as a stage, which earned them interviews with many magazines and television shows. Yamamoto recalled that when he joined, he told the producer he was a guitarist and not a singer, but during recording someone suggested he sing in English, and he went to be second vocalist of the band. Bow Wow released their self-titled debut album in 1976. In 1977, Bow Wow opened for Aerosmith and Kiss on their Japanese tours.
When main former vocalist Mitsuhiro Saito left in the band in 1983, after releasing nine studio albums with the band, Bow Wow adopted a mainstream sound by recruiting lead vocalist Genki Hitomi and keyboardist Rei Atsumi, and renamed themselves to Vow Wow. They relocated to England in 1986, before former bass player Kenji Sano left the band the following year, and former guitarist Kyoji Yamamoto invited former Whitesnake bassist Neil Murray to replace him. After Murray left to join Black Sabbath, studio bassist Mark Gould played on Vow Wow's last album before they disbanded in 1990.
Yamamoto reformed Bow Wow in 1995 with all new members, before it became a trio when fellow original members Saito and Niimi rejoined in 1998. Niimi left in 2015 and the band now performs under the name Bow Wow G2, which refers to the two guitarists being the only official members.
1982's "Asian Volcano" marked Bow Wow's categorical return to the Heavy Rock style that launched their career, following a series of befuddling mainstream Pop albums.

"Skunkworks" is an Alternative Rock album. Originally, Bruce intended for "Skunkworks" to be the debut album of a band by the same name. However, the label would not publish the record under any other name than Bruce Dickinson. The album moved even further away from the Progressive sound of his former band Iron Maiden into an Alternative Rock sound similar to bands such as Soundgarden. The album was produced by Jack Endino, best known for producing Nirvana's first album.
Displaying a sometimes Rush-like refined Prog Groove and plenty of his traditional science-and-literature lyrical themes, Bruce Dickinson deserves high marks for "Skunkworks". This 1996 release signals Dickinson's tentative shift toward music generally in tune with (but still somewhat restrained when compared to) his seminal work with Maiden. The occasionally over-serious, high-concept imagery is about what fans would expect, but the open, less Metallic accompaniment (that still Rocks by any standard) has a non-chronological familiarity.
Joining the singer on "Skunkworks" are musicians Alex Dickson (guitars), Alex Elena (drums), and Chris Dale (bass). Highlight tracks include "Solar Confinement", which while lyrically murky, has a great chorus, and the Soundgarden-esque "I Will Not Accept the Truth". "Headswitch" is also a treat, with its updated Deep Purple groove. This track also features some of Dickson's best work.
A year after "Skunkworks", Dickinson joined up with former Maiden guitarist Adrian Smith and made a more defined return to classic form. Most agree that the Smith period is the singer's finest, but "Skunkworks" has some merit of its own, foreshadowing what would become a highly approved stylistic shift!
