Def Leppard's second album continues in the vein of the anthemic, working-class Hard Rock of their debut. While still opting for a controlled musical attack and melodies as big-sounding and stadium-ready as possible, the band opens up its arrangements a bit more on "High 'n' Dry", letting the songs breathe and groove, while the rhythm section and guitar riffs play off one another. MTV helped break the album in the U.S. with its heavy rotation of the video for the unabashedly dramatic Rock ballad "Bringin' on the Heartbreak".
It was the last Pete Willis' full-time album with Def Leppard.
The album charted at No. 38 on the Billboard 200 and No. 26 on the UK Albums Chart. "High 'n' Dry (Saturday Night)", ranked No. 33 on VH1's 40 Greatest Metal Songs. Following the success of "Pyromania", the album re-entered in the US chart and reached No. 72 in 1983.

Def Leppard's best-selling album to date, selling over 20 000 000 copies worldwide, including 12 million in the US, and spawning seven hit Singles. The album is the follow-up to the band's 1983 breakthrough "Pyromania". "Hysteria"'s creation took over three years and was plagued by delays, including the aftermath of drummer Rick Allen's accident that cost him his left arm on 31 December 1984. In the liner notes to the album, the band apologized for the long wait between albums, and promised to never force fans to wait that long between albums again. However, later events, particularly the death of lead guitarist Steve Clark, delayed the next album, "Adrenalize", by almost five years.
"Hysteria" was produced by Robert John "Mutt" Lange. The title of the album was thought up by drummer Rick Allen, referring to his 1984 car accident, the amputation of his arm, and the ensuing worldwide media coverage surrounding it. It is the last album to feature guitarist Steve Clark before his death in 1991, although songs co-written by him would appear on the band's next album, "Adrenalize". Lasting 62 minutes and 32 seconds, the album is the band's longest to date. David Simone, managing director of Phonogram Records at the time, said the album might have been the most expensive record made in the U.K. According to guitarist Phil Collen, the album had to sell a minimum of 5 million copies to break even.
Where "Pyromania" had set the standard for polished, catchy Pop-Metal, "Hysteria" only upped the ante. "Pyromania"'s slick, layered Mutt Lange production turned into a painstaking obsession with dense sonic detail on "Hysteria", with the result that some critics dismissed the record as a stiff, mechanized Pop sell-out (perhaps due in part to Rick Allen's new, partially electronic drum kit). But Def Leppard's music had always employed big, anthemic hooks, and few of the Pop-Metal bands who had hit the charts in the wake of "Pyromania" could compete with Leppard's sense of craft; certainly none had the Pop songwriting savvy to produce seven chart Singles from the same album, as the stunningly consistent "Hysteria" did.
Joe Elliott's lyrics owe an obvious debt to his obsession with T. Rex, particularly on the playfully silly anthem "Pour Some Sugar on Me", and the British Glam Rock tribute "Rocket", while power ballads like "Love Bites" and the title track lack the histrionics or gooey sentimentality of many similar offerings.
The strong Pop hooks and "perfect"-sounding production of "Hysteria" may not appeal to die-hard Heavy Metal fans, but it isn't Heavy Metal - it's Pop-Metal, and arguably the best Pop-Metal ever recorded. Its blockbuster success helped pave the way for a whole new second wave of Hair Metal bands, while proving that the late-'80s musical climate could also be very friendly to veteran Hard Rock acts, a lead many would follow in the next few years.
The album charted at number one on both the Billboard 200 and the UK Albums Chart. It went on to dominate album charts around the world for three years. It was certified 12× Platinum by the RIAA in 1998. The album currently sits as the 51st Best-selling Album of All Time in the US. It spent 96 weeks in the US top 40, a record for the 1980s it ties with "Born in the U.S.A.". "Hysteria" has sold more than 20 million copies worldwide.
After the album's release, Def Leppard published a book titled Animal Instinct: The Def Leppard Story, written by Rolling Stone Magazine senior editor David Fricke, on the three-year recording process of Hysteria and the tough times the band endured through the mid-1980s. During their 22 March to 10 April 2013 residency at The Joint, Def Leppard performed the album in its entirety, from start to finish. This was followed up with a live album, "Viva! Hysteria", recorded during the residency and released on 22 October 2013, which includes all of band's fourth studio album being played live. This would be followed up seven years later, as "Hysteria: Live at the O2" was released on 29 May 2020, as part of the "London to Vegas" box set. The live concert was filmed at The O2 Arena in London, England on 6 December 2018, as the band once again played the album in its entirety. Various releases have included a stand-alone edition of this concert have featured combinations of audio, DVD and Blu-Ray discs.
In 2005, "Hysteria" was ranked number 464 in Rock Hard Magazine's book "The 500 Greatest Rock & Metal Albums of All Time". "Hysteria" got the same placement on Rolling Stone's list of the "500 Best Albums of All Time", the magazine also ranked the album atop its list of the "50 Greatest Hair Metal Albums", and they placed the album on their list of "50 Rock Albums Every Country Fan Should Own". Loudwire placed the album at No. 2 on their list of the "Top 30 Hair Metal albums". "Hysteria" was also included in the book "1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die". L.A. Weekly and Consequence of Sound both ranked the album #8 on their "Hair Metal album lists". Metal Rules put the album on their list of the "Top 50 Glam Metal Albums", at #30. The Ringer called Hysteria "the greatest Hair Metal album ever made".

"On Through The Night" established the band as one of the leading lights of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal. While possessing the tight, controlled attack of comrades Judas Priest and Iron Maiden, Def Leppard was uninterested in the fantastic, menacing, and sometimes gothic themes of those bands; instead, "On Through the Night" is a collection of working-class Hard Rock anthems informed by the big, glittering hooks of Glam Rock. It may lack the detailed production and more Pop-oriented songwriting of later efforts, but it's also arguably their heaviest album, and some Leppard fans prefer this sound!
The album features re-recorded versions of "Rocks Off" and "Overture", tracks from the band's original independently released EP, "The Def Leppard E.P.". Other tracks are rerecorded versions of early demos, some of which appeared on the "First Strike" and "Warchild" bootlegs. "Rocks Off", "Wasted", "Rock Brigade" (b/w "When the Walls Came Tumbling Down") and "Hello America" were released as singles. However, the versions of "Rocks Off" and "Wasted" that appears on the singles is a different recording from that of the LP, as is its B-side, "Hello America".
It charted at #51 on the Billboard 200 and #15 on the UK Albums Chart. The album was certified Platinum by the RIAA on 9 May 1989.

While Def Leppard had obviously wanted to write big-sounding anthems on their previous records, "Pyromania" was where the band's vision coalesced and gelled into something more. More than ever before, the band's songs on "Pyromania" are driven by catchy, shiny melodic hooks instead of heavy guitar riffs, although the latter do Pop up once in a while.
But it wasn't just this newly intensified focus on melody and consistent songwriting (and heavy MTV exposure) that made "Pyromania" a massive success - and the catalyst for the '80s Pop-Metal movement. Robert John "Mutt" Lange's buffed-to-a-sheen production - polished drum and guitar sounds, multi-tracked layers of vocal harmonies, a general sanding of any and all musical rough edges, and a perfectionistic attention to detail - set the style for much of the melodic Hard Rock that followed.
It wasn't a raw or spontaneous sound, but the performances were still energetic and committed. Leppard's quest for huge, transcendent Hard Rock perfection on "Pyromania" was surprisingly successful; their reach never exceeded their grasp, which makes the album an enduring (and massively influential) classic!
Song "Rock! Rock! ('Till You Drop)" was performed as early as 1980, originally as a song called "Medicine Man", with different lyrics.
"Pyromania" has received mostly positive reviews, being commonly considered, along with its follow-up "Hysteria", one of the band's finest efforts to date.
The album was a huge success, charting at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 and No. 18 on the UK Albums Chart. It was selling over 10 million copies in the US, and thus being certified Diamond by the RIAA.

What we have here are extremely distorted, low-tuned chainsaw guitars with heavy mind blowing riffs, sick gory break downs and speed picking, giving an extremely sick and mean atmosphere. As in every track, guitars are shredding as the bass comes to Grind the Slashes of the shattered guts all over the place. You can clearly hear the bass guitar playing over everything, adding more aggressiveness to the music itself. Drums are way too fast and skilled, giving a feeling of insanity, and loosing the neck for an ultimate headbang, speed rolls and blast-beats and an extremely heavy sound!
The vocals are not of that beg-n'-squeal voice or that unheard vocals style. You can hear it clearly: extreme, brutal and aggressive yet heard and is overall firm vocalization!
Excellent brutal Death Metal debut, which will appeal for fans of Cannibal Corpse, Deicide, Suffocation and the likes!!

Recorded at the legendary Morrisound Studios, Florida, "Scars of The Crucifix" heralded the return to form of one of the Death Metal originators who after leaving their previous label were full of venom, hate and aggression. Cleanly produced by Neil Kernon (Cannibal Corpse, Queensryche), the band sounds appropriately brutal with synchronized dual-guitar shredding by Eric Hoffman and Brian Hoffman (who also manage about 17 solos between the two of them), metronomic drumming by Steve Asheim, and Glen Benton's bass guitar and deep growl (sometimes double-tracked with higher-pitched vocals).

“Religion Of Sin” is as it sounds, a straightforward piece of South American machinery with plenty of admiration towards the European and the American Thrash scenes. It's shattering and crushing, tormenting as if it was a part of earlier discography of the Teutonic lords, Kreator, and moderately tasting the oxidized blood irons of Dark Angel, with a fierce type of Thrash Metal, letting their damnation out with sheer force.
It started with the main riffs, heat fuming guitar soloing that burned your skins, and of course the Petrozza like vocals at full stretch, piercing with glory. Nonetheless, it also noticeable that Demencia struggled to step out of the old Kreator-ish dignitary while adjoining a few uneven song assemblies, speed demon passages, and slightly Americanised Thrash Metal riffs. And in general it worked out for them, but it still sounds and walks like a Kreator late 80s release, of course not bad.
Infusing songs in Spanish was a right call in order to secure their South American roots intact, and at least one of them creased with no mercy. The Kreator-ish doctrine within the rhythms and beats, made Demencia to come up with lead guitar efforts that in their benefit stood tall.
It's recommend to be listened by every Metalhead that respects the meaning of moshing and Metal as well as for fans of Destruction, Sodom, Kreator, and Dark Angel!!

The sound of Demon Prayers is an easy one to describe; the team are clearly influenced by European Thrash titans Sodom, Kreator and Destruction, and the usual Premier League legends Slayer, Dark Angel and even a hint of Brazilian’s Sepultura.
The band, despite being happy to pay homage to their heroes, are still intent on bringing their own spin on proceedings. Although originality rarely glimmers through the smog of old school influence, this is still a meaty platter that recommend to anyone who likes raw, energetic and, most of all, accomplished Thrash Metal.
Vocally Bonias has a rough ’n’ ready style which is very much Max Cavalera (Sepultura) meets Tom Angelripper (Sodom). From the off with the introduction – which bleeds into the title track – we’re transported back to the mid to late 80s when this sort of foaming Thrash Metal was all the rage; the riffs very much take on that Dark Angel side of angry speed and brooding brutality. As with so many Thrash bands of today, the Slayer ingredient comes to the fore like a potent spice that provides a much needed kick.
To be honest, nothing beats a slice of deadly serious Thrash. Despite their rawness, Demon Prayers really have hit hard on this record; not once do they rely on silly humour or revolting mimicry. Instead, they knuckle down and produce some really fetching riffs which enable the likes of "Senseless Reality" to come to life as raging compositions.
As the band speed through the tracks on offer there is an obvious Kreator sneer mixed with a San Francisco Bay Area gang-chant attraction, and so the combination of influences makes for an interesting listen with some exceptional solos and unhealthy bouts of speed.
"Tyranny (Respect Your Life Or Die)" has to be one of the catchiest numbers on offer, bringing a real groove to the mix as the bass bubbles just under the surface of the compact drums and those feverish guitars which have a strong hint of chugging menace. It’s great that the band can inject a dose of melody, and a majority of the tracks on this debut album are pleasing to the ear in their frenzy. Of course, all the young bands had their affects remarkable in their debuts and the beginning of Demon Prayers is absolute positive! Killer old school Thrash Metal!!

Listening to Demona is truly like awaking in the mid-eighties to find a new tape neatly wrapped next to your bed – a nostalgic feeling of excitement and anticipation that has been largely stripped away by the instantaneous nature of the ubiquitous internet. The production is mostly excellent, although vocals do sometimes get lost in the reverb-heavy mix, but it’s the feel of the songs that appeals the most – the band untainted by the cynicism that set into Heavy Metal in the mid-nineties – the music recalling the raw majestic evil of Venom and vintage Thrash. As such, the album carries with it an irrepressible sense of excitement coupled with a tinge of nostalgia that is quite impossible to ignore. Fans of pure Heavy Metal will love the unhinged speed of the riffs, the unquestionable skill of the band and the dirty, yet powerful production which has admirably captured the raw sound of a band honed by practice and months on the road, but not digitally enhanced or sandpapered the music into smooth anonymity. Overall, this is the sound of a band perfectly capturing the hedonistic spirit of traditional Heavy Metal and delivering a ferocious, beautifully poised performance that could only really be improved by seeing them in the flesh. All hail Demona – the beautiful sound of darkness awaits!!!

Coming from Queensland, the band was founded in 2012. Of course, they have many influences from different sources, like American old bands Metallica, Megadeth, Dark Angel, Exodus, etc, but definitely, they know what they want and add personality to the whole concept.
Actually, all tracks have high musical skills as everything tied by technical structures here and there, and it denotes good taste in Metallic spirit. Also, guitar riffs and solos are amazing and it seems like Steve Lievesley is a die-hard fan of Marty Friedman, Dimebag Darrell, Kirk Hammett, etc. The guitar work is really good and knows how to create old school atmospheres in solid rhythm guitar bases.
The EP starts with a fast-paced song “Broken Trust” chugging along with a touch of Punk, reminiscent of similar age-old bands mostly from Crossover/Thrash genre, though Deraign isn’t technically Crossover. “Shellshocked (PTSD)” keeps the high tempo going, but brings in riffs that were unheard before and along with the fast paced drumbeats, makes the song chaotic. “Pit of Misery” is one of the intimidating songs due to sheer anthemic powerful effect the song creates. It sure has potential to be the trademark song of the band’s live setlist. “All is Lost” is a song that brings in new and innovative riffs, though not really anything that could get me excited. The EP ends with a 7 min song in the juicily named “Purity in Violence”, which starts of excellently in a regular Thrash sound. Very similar to the previous songs and still managing to offer something new and heavy, but half way through, the song turns into a total melody and is almost an instrumental from there - boys blast some sharp lead guitar solos besides the melodic guitar work and drum beats, before ending the song in a high tempo, heavy sound.
All in all, this is a good debut EP, very well balanced and with strong musical elements. It’s highly recommended for those who stay apart from newest Thrash Metal wave, but still enjoy the genre!!
