The seventh full-length studio album by legendary American Funk/Soul/Pop singer.
The downside to a success like "Thriller" is that it's nearly impossible to follow, but Michael Jackson approached "Bad" much the same way he approached "Thriller" - take the basic formula of the predecessor, expand it slightly, and move it outward. This meant that he moved deeper into Hard Rock, deeper into schmaltzy adult contemporary, deeper into hard dance - essentially taking each portion of "Thriller" to an extreme, while increasing the quotient of immaculate studiocraft.
Released nearly five years after it's predecessor, "Thriller" (1982), "Bad" saw Jackson exercise even more artistic freedom than he did with his two previous releases ("Off The Wall" and "Thriller"). Jackson composed nine of the album's eleven tracks, and received co-producer credit for the entire album. The album marked the final collaboration between Jackson and producer Quincy Jones.
Nine of the eleven songs (ten on vinyl version) on "Bad" were released as singles; one was a promotional single, and another was released outside of the United States and Canada. The only songs on the album, which were not released as commercial singles, were "Speed Demon" and "Just Good Friends".
With seven hit singles out of eleven tracks, "Bad" could easily be thought of as a greatest hits album. Songs such as "Bad" and "Dirty Diana" show a harder, more Rocking approach to the music. Jackson's universal appeal, along with his hiccup vocals and huge Pop sound, is still very much in focus.
The album continued Jackson's commercial success in the late 1980s, and garnered six Grammy Award nominations, winning two. Apart from commercial success, the album was well received by contemporary critics. Five of the singles hit No. 1 in the United States, while a sixth charted within the top ten, and a seventh charted within the top twenty on the Hot 100. "Bad" peaked at No. 1 in thirteen countries and charted within the top twenty in other territories. It was ranked No. 43 in the 100 Greatest Albums of All Time of the MTV Generation in 2009 by VH1, and number 202 in Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. "Bad" has sold an estimated 35 million copies worldwide, making it the eleventh best-selling album of all time. In 2017, the album was certified Diamond by the Recording Industry Association of America, denoting sales of over ten million copies in the United States.

First posthumous album with previously unreleased tracks. It is the first release of all-new Jackson material since "Invincible" in 2001 and the seventh since Jackson's death on June 25, 2009.
The majority of the songs on the album are songs that were written and recorded during the "Invincible" era and onwards. The album contains two songs that were written during the "Thriller era", "Behind the Mask" and "Much Too Soon". The song "(I Like) The Way You Love Me" previously appeared on "The Ultimate Collection" (2004) with the title "The Way You Love Me" as an unreleased track. For "Michael", the song has been re-arranged and more vocals have been added. The song "Best of Joy" is one of the last that Michael recorded during his lifetime, having written and recorded it in 2009, the year of his death.
Prior to the album's release, a lawyer for Jackson's father Joe stated that Jackson was a perfectionist and "would never have wanted his unfinished material to be released". Jackson collaborator will.i.am said it was "disrespectful" to release the material, as Jackson was not able to approve it. The album drew controversy over the authenticity of some vocals. The authenticity of the vocals on the tracks "Breaking News", "Keep Your Head Up", and "Monster" is still in doubt.
"Michael" debuted at number one in Germany, selling 85 000 copies in its first week. The album also debuted at number one in Austria, Italy, the Netherlands, and Sweden. In the US, it debuted at number three on the Billboard 200 with first-week sales of 228 000 copies, followed by 150 000 the next week. In Denmark, the album debuted at number four, selling 4 936 copies in its first week. On December 19, 2010, the album opened in the UK at number four with sales of 113 000, which was Michael Jackson's biggest opening sales week in the UK since the release of "Dangerous" nearly 20 years before. In its first five weeks, the album sold over 434 000 copies in the United States. In the same week, the album was certified Platinum by the RIAA for shipping over a million copies. "Michael" received numerous Gold and Platinum certifications worldwide.

The first re-release of the fourth DVD by legendary American Funk/Soul/Pop singer.
It was released on DVD on November 13, 2003 under the Epic Records record label, in conjunction with the promotion for Jackson's greatest hits album of the same name (although the album and DVD have different songs). The DVD contains fifteen music videos directed and produced by various people. It consists of music videos filmed and released by Jackson from 1979's "Off the Wall" to 2001's "Invincible". As with the album, the DVD has four different covers.
Notable music videos included on the DVD were "Beat It", "Billie Jean" and Thriller", which received heavy rotation on MTV in the 1980s, and are credited as having transformed the music video from a promotional tool and into an art form, and "Black or White" which was also prominent on channels like MTV in the 1990s.
"Number Ones" received praise from contemporary music critics and was commercially successful internationally. The DVD peaked at number one on the Australian Top 40 Music DVD in Australia. "Number Ones" has been certified twenty-two times Platinum in Australia by the Australian Recording Industry Association, and is the best-selling music DVD ever by a male solo artist in Australia. It is also thirteen times Platinum in the United States by the Recording Industry Association of America.
