Destruction has become an international thrash metal quartet with members from Germany, Switzerland, Canada and Argentina that has been going through ups and downs for forty-two remarkable years.
Released with the Legacy Magazine #154 (01/2025), this is an EP for the forthcoming “Birth Of Malice” album. The EP includes one track from an album, three cover songs, and one live track.
Opening song "No Kings - No Masters" is a ferocious Thrash Metal song with energetic guitar riffs, dominant bass guitar sounds and versatile drum play that offer a solid backbone for the rough lead vocals that still give this legendary band a unique charm from the Underground. This energetic tune is so infectious that genre fans should already be convinced to listen to the upcoming full-length record.
What follows, are three cover songs of German Heavy Metal legends Accept, American Thrash Metal icons Metallica and British Rock 'n' Roll sensation Motörhead. Destruction has managed to make all three songs sound like their very own. They are aggressive, fast, rough and best enjoyed in concert. Despite all the anger, frustration and liberation felt in these performances, Destruction still oozes with great fun as it becomes obvious to listeners that the chemistry in this band is excellent and that its four members really enjoy playing together as well.
Closing tune, "Nailed To The Cross", has been recorded live and underlines the quartet's excellent quality at concerts and festivals. The great thing about Destruction is that its live performances convincingly equal the quality of the studio efforts and at times even outclass them. This particular song is performed with grit, joy and relentlessness. If you ever have the chance to attend one of the band's shows, don't hesitate to buy a ticket.

Destruction was the most traditionalists of the big three German thrash bands: where Sodom and Kreator headed in a Punkier direction, frequently aiming for pure aggression at the expense of melody, Destruction always retained a classic Metal feel. They wanted audiences to mosh, but they also wanted to write songs with memorable choruses and heroic guitar solos. Band have continued to do that for over 25 years, with founding bassist/vocalist Marco Schirmer's (he left for a decade, but nobody likes to talk about those years) hoarse shriek the perfect counterpoint to the band's downtuned, percussive riffing. The first statements from the band are promising for the oldschool fans, a faster and turbulent album than the 2008's "D.E.V.O.L.U.T.I.O.N." that will go more 'back to the roots'. This album is an excellent example of 21st century Destruction, up there with early-2000s releases like "The Antichrist" and "Metal Discharge", and much better than, say, 2005's mediocre "Inventor Of Evil".
The songs have the churn of a truck in low gear, proceeding relentlessly uphill before the inevitable frantic, skidding slide down the other side.
The lyrics may not be all that memorable, but with track titles like "Hate Is My Fuel", "Armageddonizer", "Sheep of the Regime", "Sorcerer of Black Magic" and the like, you pretty much know what you're getting: a little bit of angry political ranting and a little bit of rote occultism, all set to Tribal-meets-Punk drumming and Grinding guitars.
Longtime fans of these guys will be very pleased that after nearly 30 years, they're every bit as powerful as they ever were!!

Back in the beginning of the nineties, things weren’t that rosy in the already then legendary Destruction. It ended up with bassist/vocalist Schmier being kicked out of the band and replaced with Poltergeist screamer André Greider, who did a great job on the quite rocking “Cracked Brain” album. Then André was replaced by Ephemera’s Party vocalist Thomas Rosenmerkel on the quite off the wall album “The Least Successful Human Cannonball”. That didn’t really work out in any way… When Schmier returned to Destruciton in 1999, together with drummer Sven Vormann, 3 demo tracks were recorded under the slashing name "The Butcher Strikes Back", giving the band a new label deal. The demo paid off, the band got signed by Nuclear Blast, which marked Destruction back on track as the one of the kings of the Teutonic Four. And Destruction was finally back!
These demo tracks, together with some Japan bonus tracks, and Wacken live tracks were released in autumn 2022 on CD, LP and MC.
