The debut full-length studio album by legendary American Hard Rock/Glam Metal band.
Formulated from the very glamorous elements that made Hair Metal in the '80s so decadently enjoyable, Vixen was the female equivalent of Warrant: rocking just hard enough, so it was OK for macho Hair Metal dudes to enjoy, and just soft enough, so that they would be the darlings of the Dial MTV circuit. The formula paid off in spades, and the Richard Marx-penned lead single "Edge of A Broken Heart" blazed up the charts and usurped the throne from many of the macho Hair Metal dudes in all of their hair spray and make-up ridden glory. The rest of the album had the predictable, gratuitous power ballads, hard driving party tunes, and everything else in between that Rock bands were pontificating about in the late '80s.
Richard Marx, one of the late 1980s' most successful recording artists, was heavily involved in Vixen's early career, co-producing the album and writing one of their biggest hits, "Edge of a Broken Heart".
The three songs co-written by Jeff Paris, "Cryin'", "One Night Alone" and the bonus track "Charmed Life", were previously released on Paris's 1987 solo album "Wired Up". "Give It Away" is credited to Paris's real name, Geoffrey Leib, and was included on his previous album "Race To Paradise" (1986).
Vixen was featured at No. 43 in Rolling Stone Magazine's list of "50 Greatest Hair Metal Albums of All Time". The album was certified Gold by the RIAA on February 6, 1989.

Exalted as "the female Bon Jovi," Vixen spent several years paying dues on L.A.'s Hard Rock circuit before enjoying national exposure in 1988 with a self-titled album and the mega-hit "Edge of A Broken Heart". The all-female band's popularity was short-lived, however. EMI had high hopes for Vixen's next album, "Rev It Up", but was disappointed when it didn't do nearly as well as expected. The album entered the UK Albums Chart at No. 20, and placed two songs inside the Billboard Hot 100. However, it did not match up to its predecessor in the USA, and EMI dropped the band shortly thereafter. Therefore, this album is the band's last release from a major label.
But hearing this album, it isn't anything to be ashamed of, because such slick Pop-Metal songs as "Bad Reputation", "Love Is A Killer", and the single "How Much Love" are, in fact, slightly stronger than previous songs of Vixen. One thing, EMI wouldn't give Vixen was a lot of chances to return to the top of the charts, because, by the mid-'90s, Alternative Rock had become the rage, and the type of Pop-Metal, Vixen specialized in, was out of vogue...
The race car on the US cover belonged to local racing legend and all around hero Bobby Baldwin. The European and Japanese covers show a picture of the band, which is on the back cover for the US release.
