Re-release of the fifth full-length studio album by legendary American Psychedelic/Blues Rock band.
Following the use of brass and string arrangements recommended by producer Paul A. Rothchild on their previous album, "The Soft Parade", the band returned to their original Blues Rock style and was largely seen as a return to form for the band.
The Doors entered Elektra Sound Recorders in Los Angeles in November 1969 to record the album which is divided into two separately titled sides: "Hard Rock Cafe" and "Morrison Hotel". The band included session bassists Lonnie Mack and Ray Neapolitan on the album's songs.
The album peaked at No. 4 on the Billboard 200, and performed better overseas than the preceding album. It was certified Gold by RIAA in February 1970. Additionally, it became the band's highest-charting studio album in the United Kingdom, where it peaked at No. 12.
Reissue on 180-gram HQ virgin vinyl housed in gatefold cover presents the original stereo mixes, artwork and a folded Elektra insert.

For that reason, the band's second effort isn't as consistently stunning as their debut, though overall it's a very successful continuation of the themes of their classic album. Besides the hit "Strange Days", highlights included the funky "Moonlight Drive", the eerie "You're Lost Little Girl", and the jerkily rhythmic "Love Me Two Times", which gave the band a small chart single. "My Eyes Have Seen You" and "I Can't See Your Face in My Mind" are minor but pleasing entries in the band's repertoire that share a subdued Eastern Psychedelic air. The 11-minute "When the Music's Over" would often be featured as a live showstopper, yet it also illustrated their tendency to occasionally slip into drawn-out bombast.

The band's third studio album, "Waiting For The Sun", released in July of the same year, became The Doors' only number one hit on the Billboard 200 while also spawning "Hello, I Love You", their second number one Single. The album was the first commercial breakthrough for the band in the UK, reaching number 16 on the UK Albums Chart. After the release of "Waiting For The Sun", The Doors commanded substantial performance fees and played before large crowds in arenas such as the L.A. Forum, the Hollywood Bowl, and Madison Square Garden.
Most of the next album was recorded following a gruelling tour, during which the band was left with little time to compose new material. Record producer Paul A. Rothchild recommended a total departure from the Doors' first three albums: develop a fuller sound by incorporating brass and string arrangements provided by Paul Harris. Lead singer Jim Morrison, who was dealing with personal issues and focusing more on his poetry, was less involved in the songwriting process, allowing guitarist Robby Krieger to increase his own creative output. Upon release, "The Soft Parade" was denounced by both music critics and the band's Underground music scene followers, who viewed the album as The Doors' trending into Pop music. Over time, historians have reassessed the album and its critical standing has slightly improved, but it is still widely considered to be the group's weakest effort with Morrison.
Three preceding Singles, "Touch Me", "Wishful Sinful", and "Tell All the People", were included on "The Soft Parade", with the former becoming another Top 10 hit for The Doors. Another single, "Runnin' Blue", also followed the album's release.
The album peaked at number six on the Billboard 200, but it failed to retain audiences in the UK and other European countries that their previous album, "Waiting For The Sun", had succeeded in engaging.

The album saw the band continue to integrate elements of Blues back into their music, a direction begun with their previous album, "Morrison Hotel". Actually, some of the straight Blues items sound kind of turgid, but that's more than made up for by several cuts that rate among their finest and most disturbing work. The seven-minute title track was a car-cruising classic that celebrated both the glamour and seediness of Los Angeles; the other long cut, the brooding, Jazzy "Riders on the Storm", was the band's at its most melodic and ominous. It and the far bouncier "Love Her Madly" were hit singles, and "The Changeling" and "L'America" count as some of their better, little-heeded album tracks. An uneven but worthy finale from the original quartet… Three months after release, on July 3, Morrison was found dead. 
"Love Her Madly" was released as a single in March 1971, preceding the album's release, and it reached the Top 20 in the Billboard Hot 100 for a stay of 11 weeks, but failed to chart in the UK. Upon release, the album peaked at number nine on the Billboard 200, remaining on the charts for 36 weeks, and reached number 28 in the UK, spending four weeks on the UK Albums Charts. An additional Single in support of the album, "Riders On The Storm", also achieved chart success on Billboard and in the UK.

In 2000, “The Doors” was voted number 46 in Colin Larkin's "All Time Top 1000 Albums". It’s also ranked No. 75 on Q Magazine's "100 Greatest Albums Ever" and No. 226 in NME Magazine's "500 Greatest Albums of All Time".
In 2007, Rolling Stone put “The Doors” on their list of the 40 essential albums of 1967. In 2012, the album was ranked No. 42 in Rolling Stone Magazine's list of "500 Greatest Albums of all Time". In 2015, the Library of Congress selected "The Doors" for inclusion in the National Recording Registry based on its cultural, artistic or historical significance.
