Tradition in a new dimension! A new album for this cult band and a new success!! Sinner have been inspiring Melodic Rock and Metal fans alike for years. The gigantic success in the 80’s as albums like “Touch Of Sin” or “Coming Out Fighting” catapulted the band to the very top of the European Metal scene were followed by a creative pause, a solo album from mastermind Mat Sinner and then finally the bands’ comeback in 1993 with the album “Respect”. During the second half of the last decade, Sinner impressively attained the position at the top of the national Metal scene with releases like “Bottom Line” and “Judgement Day”. Their greatest commercial success to date was in 1998 as the band entered the German Top 100 LP charts (No. 63) with “The Nature Of Evil”. After that Sinner rocked 60000 fans as Special Guests on tour with Rock giants Deep Purple and clearly demonstrated their excellent live qualities. Deep Purple vocalist, Ian Gillan, personally thanked the guys after the tour and termed them "Best Special Guests of the Nineties".
In the line with their precedent release, "The Nature Of Evil", "The End Of Sanctuary" plants the flag of German domination over this kind of music. Before recording “The End Of Sanctuary”, the band had to be reformed as guitar player Tom Naumann was forced to leave due to health problems and drummer Fritz Randow has been touring with Saxon for some time. Sinner mastered the situation with impressive ease by recruiting ex-Thunderhead guitar beast Henry Wolter and the world-class Helloween drummer Uli Kusch who are both more than mere replacements as is clearly mirrored in the new recordings. “The End Of Sanctuary”, produced by Mat Sinner in the House Of Music Studios, shines in its structural versatility and the musical performance of the individual musicians.
Mat Sinner's voice getting better and better on each new release. Guitars riffs are definitely strong point of this album and added melodic touch.
Sinner’s music might became heavier that decade, especially with the closeness to Sinner’s Primal Fear that seemed charged and on the roll, however, the Rock N’ Roll edge that served him in the 80’s remained true and adamant to the bone! These kinds of records of true dedication inspire!!

There’s no denying that Sinner have been at the top of the European Metal scene for years now. Even during the times where Grunge and Crossover were predominant on the market, Sinner released one superb album after the other and from the mid-nineties the sinners started getting really heavy. “Bottom Line”, “Judgement Day” and the masterpiece from 1998, “The Nature Of Evil”, were the the heaviest and the best releases from Mat Sinner & Co. to date. “The Nature Of Evil” entered the German Top 100 sales charts (No. 68) and became the worldwide most successful album in the bands career. These releases are the basis of the “The Second Decade”.
However, Mat Sinner & Co. didn’t just want to release a Best Of album without offering their fans something special. Therefore, fans will find, along with “The Second Decade”, “The Truth Is Out There” (with the original Sinner drummer, Bernie van der Graaf) and an acoustic version of the Sinner classic, "Respect" (recorded in Japan), three previously unreleased tracks on this album. The absolute highlight is the cover version of the Accept classic, “Balls To The Wall”, with its typical Sinner groove and previously only available on the Accept tribute album. The fact that "Streets Of Sin (Judgement Day)", an almost forgotten jewel, made its way on to this album proves that this release is truly a Best Of. And not a Greatest Hits album.
Mat Sinner (Vocals & Bass), Alex Beyroth & Tom Naumann (Guitars), Frank Rössler (Keyboards) and Fritz Randow (Drums) - this was the most stabil line up to date in the bands career and this compilation is a super way of looking back on the work of these 5 extraordinary musicians because in the year 2000 there will be changes made in the Sinner ranks. As with Primal Fear, Tom Naumann is now no longer by Sinner and has been replaced by ex-Thunderhead guitar god, Henry Wolter, who already shows what he’s made of on “The Second Decade” where he appears as guest musician on “When Silence Falls”, “The Biggest Lie” and as joint composer of the classic “Rage Of A Hurricane”.
The title of "The Second Decade" is a little misleading: Sinner had only existed for 15 years when this was released, and the compilation covers the band's entire career, not just a decade of it.
All in all, “The Second Decade” is a superb cross section of the last years and whets the appetite for the next album. The perfect starting point for newcomers and European Power Metal obsessives!!
