Following the years of tribulations together, New York Thrash Metal legends have soldiered on despite the constant line-up, shuffling and uncertainty to come back recharged, refocused and more intent on providing the type of Thrashing material from their heyday.
Coming back together with Megaforce Records once again, the band’s eleventh full-length of original material and first with new guitarist Jonathan Donais (replacing Rob Caggiano) was originally released February 26, 2016 after a five-year gap between releases.
Being around for as long as they have, this here is pretty similar to what’s been apart of their sound for the majority of their career, which focuses on the tight, melodic twin guitar-based Thrashing, that’s featured here. The riffing is highly melodic and makes for quite a rousing series of high-energy riffing, that’s quite heavy while; also bringing along plenty of melodic harmonies in the vocals as well as the strong leads throughout here, create a strong sense of surging melody that compliments the varied heavier riffing. That comes from a selection of pieces that range from Hard Rock-inspired numbers, mixed with some mid-tempo groove to their traditional stomp-style, Thrashing that raises the energy considerably and even drops the energy level down into a more slower-paced crawl, with the addition of ballad-esque numbers that occur here. Which are also quite evenly mixed into the album as a whole. This is quite a dramatic variety that delivers on a dynamic level quite readily with this one, having such a varied, yet still contained feel and tone that carries throughout the album, as a proper whole, which makes for a highly-appealing time here, that offers up enough sections from each part of their career, that it readily allows for anyone to get into it.
With plenty of variety to get any fan of any point of their career covered, which makes this one of their brightest and most enjoyable releases in their vast catalogue, and ranks as one of the better releases of the year, which makes this an easy choice for fans of the band’s more recent output, or the band in general as well, as the Old School Thrash Metal scene overall!!

3 Mini-LP Set contained the first full-length album "Fistful Of Metal" (1984), originally released by Music For Nations, as well as "Soldiers Of Metal" (1983) and "Armed And Dangerous" (1985) EPs, both originally released by Megaforce Records Inc.
Anthrax's first album holds an unusual place in the band's discography, owing to the sound, production, and the distinctive vocal performance. It is simple and amateur in every regard, and is often shelved by fans in favour of their later, more complex works that define the signature Anthrax sound. However, this is far from a generic throwaway, and is in fact a pioneering album of the Thrash movement.
The sound featured is not pure Thrash Metal, instead featuring heavy doses of Speed Metal from the likes of Judas Priest's albums "Screaming For Vengeance" and "Defenders Of The Faith", or Raven's first 3 albums. There are some more mid-tempo tracks on here that take from other members of the NWOBHM, most notably Iron Maiden. The result of this heavy British influence, combined with increased muscle that was inspired from label mate Metallica and Metal Blade's Slayer, is a beefed up version of a characteristically 80's Heavy Metal sound, which proves to be part of this album's charm. It is one of the few instances where sounding dated works in the album's favour.
Despite the NWOBHM leanings, this sound almost nothing like their similarly 80's sounding follow-up "Spreading The Disease", on account of two things, one of which is the production. It is a rather unbalanced mix, that heavily focuses on the low end of the album. Sometimes the bass guitar and the drums drown out the guitars and vocals, which are relegated to fight for 3rd. They aren't inaudible however, and this odd mix actually made this the heaviest album in Anthrax's discography until their 1990 masterpiece "Persistence Of Time". Some songs on here are heavier than what was presented on the masterful debut of Slayer. Yes, there was a time when Anthrax could be heavier than Slayer. Sadly, they were not as aggressive.
The other reason for this album being so distinctive and different to their 1985 sophomore effort is the vocal work of Neil Turbin. His screams are some the most remarkable in the genre, his wails surpass even Joey Belladonna in power and duration and, as "Subjugator" proves, he is capable of some menacing mid-range vocals too.
"Fistful Of Metal" is a classic Speed Metal album, one that should be in the collection of any old school Metalhead. It offers a different perspective on a band that many people consider to be somewhat 'fun' or 'comical'. One has to wonder just how the band would have sounded had they not abandoned this approach. Either way, this is essential for Speed/Thrash fans. Along with "Kill ’Em All", "Show No Mercy", "Heavy Metal Maniac", and many others, it sets the tune for the great Thrash and Speed Metal explosion in the mid '80s. "Fistful Of Metal" is classic among these great albums. No, it’s not the best of them, but it is an excellent piece of Speed/Thrash Metal history, essential not only for the fans of Anthrax, but also for anyone who likes this particular genre, this particular sound, and this particular feeling! The feeling of fast and angry Heavy Metal!!

Classic Rock covers EP by legendary American Thrash Metal band.
Anthrax have always had a thing for the odd cover. Search early albums and you'll hear their takes on Black Sabbath and Sex Pistols. Then, of course, there's the legendary version of Public Enemy's "Bring the Noise", a song that played a massive role in their success.
For the "Anthems" EP, they tackle six classic Rock radio staples from their teenage years: Rush's "Anthem", AC/DC's "T.N.T.", Boston's "Smokin'", Journey's "Keep on Runnin'", Cheap Trick's "Big Eyes", and Thin Lizzy's "Jailbreak". Beside cover songs from some of the band's favorite acts of the 1970s, EP features two versions of "Crawl", a song from their previous studio album "Worship Music".
The EP was recorded during 2012 at various locations. Although it was initially scheduled to be released as part of a Special Edition of "Worship Music", the record was released both separately and on a Deluxe Edition. It was released on March 19, 2013 through Megaforce Records in North America, and three days later by Nuclear Blast in Europe. This was the band's last release to feature lead guitarist Rob Caggiano, who left the band subsequently.
"Anthems" isn't a statement of some grand scheme to introduce their fanbase to six of their big influences. "Anthems" is about five guys, most of whom have been playing together for their entire adult lives, having a good time with what they do. While it's hard not to wish for a bit more, it's easy to admire what they give us and why, even if none of the above is as surprising as they think it is. All in all, "Anthems" is an interesting diversion while fans wait for the next album!
The “Anthems” received favorable reviews by music critics and debuted at number 52 on the Billboard 200, selling approximately 8500 copies in its first week of release. By April 10, 2013, "Anthems" had sold 14000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen Soundscan.

This is the sensation of 2011 – Thrash Metal legends Anthrax, one quarter of "The Big Four", are back with what can be called one of the most anticipated albums of the past few years!
With Joey Belladonna back on vocals, this album is set to kill! The stunning single "Fight 'Em 'Til You Can't" already showcased the power and strength Anthrax regained during the past years. The album was delayed due to issues with the departure of vocalist Dan Nelson from the band, and the re-joining of John Bush who ultimately decided not to commit to the album. The album's creation went through a lengthy process, with work beginning as early as November 2008. The band would eventually reunite with vocalist Joey Belladonna, whom the band finished recording with on April 2011.
The record debuted in the United States at No. 12 on The Billboard 200 chart, their highest chart position since 1993's “Sound of White Noise”. Album sold 28000 copies in the United States in its first week of release. As of September 2012, “Worship Music” has sold 100000 copies in the US.

The second full-length album by legendary American Thrash Metal band.
Anthrax's first album with vocalist Joey Belladonna and bassist Frank Bello is a huge leap forward, featuring strongly rhythmic, pounding riffs and vocals that alternate between Hardcore-type shouting and surprising amounts of melody. Two tracks left over from the Dan Lilker days ("Armed and Dangerous" and "Gung-Ho") are here as well. This is the album in which Anthrax became a heavy hitter in Thrash Metal. The music on this album is great. The razor-like sound of Ian and Spitz's guitars sound menacing and Bello's finger plucking bass (on his first album with the band) just brings speedy reminiscence of Steve Harris and beneath all that is Charlie's hard pounding drums. Just listen to the intensity of songs like "A.I.R.", or "Madhouse". It's enough to make you wanna punch someone!
Joey Belladonna is one of the most underrated or unknown singers in history. His voice is comparable to the likes of Tate, Dickinson and Halford, which it's rare to hear a singer like that in Thrash Metal. The lyrics are pretty good with comic book heroism ("Lone Justice"), to being locked away ("Madhouse") or being seduced ("Medusa"). The Traditional Metal lyrical fare is more original, while also introducing a penchant for paying tribute to favorite fictional characters and Pop culture artifacts.
If you are a fan of Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Iron Maiden or Jusas Priest, than you will definitely love this intense album!

Unlike "Fistful Of Metal", "Spreading The Disease" or "Among The Living" this album doesn't have so much fast guitar riffs. There are still good guitar riffs though some is a little repetitive to. "State of Euphoria" is not a miss and is one of their most underrated albums. The guitars have a very filling sound on here. At this time, most Thrash albums had guitar's which had a kind of flat sound. Like it was there, but it was just missing something. This album basically used all the space in the studio to get the sound right. The bass is hardly ever heard but when it is, it's very Steve Hariss-esque. The drums are very tight on this album, as well. On the last 3 albums the drums were a little loose and rehearsed, but on here they are tightened down incredibly.
Although the album contains some of what would become Anthrax's best known songs such as "Antisocial" and "Be All, End All", critical reception was lukewarm. The album failed to live up to the expectations, commercial and otherwise, set by the band's previous releases, “Among the Living” and the “I'm the Man” (EP).
The album reached #30 on the Billboard 200 chart in late 1988 and was certified Gold by the RIAA.
Anyway, it's a great album and a Anthrax classic that every fan should have!
