Whitesnake's career has been a tumultuous one since its founding. Vocalist David Coverdale achieved massive worldwide success with his blues-oriented Hard Rock outfit, especially with 1984's "Slide It In" and 1987's "Whitesnake", but he changed his bandmembers for albums and tours with dizzying frequency. Also, there were long periods of inactivity during which shifting public tastes threatened to push the band into the realm of the forgotten. 2006's "Live In The Still Of The Night" DVD is an impressive document of the band's powerful 2004 concert at the Hammersmith Apollo in London. Coverdale's all-star, wrecking-crew lineup for this version of Whitesnake includes guitarist Doug Aldrich, guitarist Reb Beach, keyboardist Timothy Drury, bass guitarist Marco Mendoza and drummer Tommy Aldridge. Aldridge, an underrated powerhouse, is the lone holdover froOf The Tongue"; behind Coverdale's thundering voice, he's the engine driving the band. The 16 songs on "Live In The Still Of The Night" are drawn from Whitesnake's entire career, arguably to appeal to the U.K. fan base. Coverdale gives a nod to his Deep Purple tenure by kicking off the show with "Burn" (complete with a teasing snippet of "Stormbringer"). Longtime fans are rewarded with "Ready an' Willing", a smoldering "Ain't No Love in the Heart of the City", "Don't Break My Heart", "Fool for Your Lovin'" and the blistering first encore, "Take Me with You". Most of Whitesnake's best-known Rock radio and Pop hits are performed - with a few exceptions. The gorgeous power ballad "Love Ain't No Stranger" is the only "Slide It In" song here; "Slide It In" and "Slow an' Easy" are conspicuously absent. Whitesnake favorites include "Bad Boys", "Is This Love", "Cryin' in the Rain" (complete with Aldridge's famous drum solo including a no-drumsticks, hands-only section), "Here I Go Again," and the rousing final encore, "Still of the Night." (Casual fans are probably unaware that the popular versions of "Here I Go Again", "Cryin' in the Rain" and "Fool for Your Lovin'" were glossier re-recordings of songs from the band's early albums). With a few exceptions, Coverdale's voice is in fine shape, and the band glides along as a tight ensemble more than you would think.
The concert was filmed on 20 October 2004 at the Hammersmith Apollo in London. DVD extras include a behind-the-scenes documentary and a photo gallery.

Second remastered re-release of the debut full-length studio album by legendary British Hard Rock band.
"Trouble" was the album, that setting the template for virtually all the band's ensuing career, pre-1987 American sell-out. This followed the 4-track EP "Snakebite", later available in the US as an import album from continental Europe.
"Trouble" was a band made up of seasoned veterans, after all, and they knew exactly what it was they wanted: edgy Hard Rock based on R&B. They also knew who was boss: Coverdale, who after enduring a minority stake in the mighty Deep Purple, was now clearly established as top dog and de facto leader of the new outfit. And what a slick, powerful outfit it was, too, with guitarists Marsden and Micky Moody compensating whatever visual shortcomings they may have had with their rock-solid six-string partnership, and former Deep Purple organist Jon Lord (for the first time in Whitesnake line-up) holding it all together in the back.
"Trouble" turned out to be the first step in a long, and very successful career. The album reached No. 50 on the UK Albums Chart when it was released in October 1978.

The seventh full-length studio album by legendary British Hard Rock/Glam Metal band.
Also known as “Whitesnake” or “Snake Album” (released in Europe as “1987” and as “Serpens Albus” in Japan and USA). The differences are small, but they are enough to make it interesting. The first difference is the track order, which is very different. The album seems to flow a little better the way it is presented here, especially when utilizing "Still of the Night" as the opening track. This has always been one of their best songs, and by far one of the best Led Zeppelin rip-offs to ever be written. There are also two more songs than on the American release, making it that much more essential to fans. Of the two, "Looking for Love" is the standout; a nice slow build to a blustery chorus makes this a classic David Coverdale ballad. "You're Gonna Break My Heart Again" is the hard rocker, and though it isn't exactly the holy grail of Hard Rock, it is a decent song that fits nicely with the other material here. If the option is presented, this is the superior edition and should be purchased above the edited American version. Fans will need the two extra songs, while anyone looking to hear their best album should hunt this down for the superior track order!
The album aimed for more of a Heavy Metal sound than the previous ones but still managed to produce a major Soft Rock hit, "Is This Love". David Coverdale built Whitesnake's commercial breakthrough on a collection of loud, polished Hard Rockers, plus the band's best set of Pop hooks. The Led Zeppelin-ish "Still of the Night" offered headbanger appeal, but it was the big chorus of "Here I Go Again" - one of the very small number of non-power ballad '80s Hard Rock singles to actually top the Pop charts, and the quiet ballad "Is This Love" that really sold the album in spades. The rest of the album generally holds interest as well, and it's easily the band's best!!
The album was a major crossover hit eventually selling over eight million copies in the US (and thus going 8 times Platinum). The album peaked at #2 on US Billboard 200, and #8 on the UK Albums Chart. Its success in the US boosted its predecessor, "Slide It In", from Gold to double Platinum status.

The eleventh full-length album by the legendary British Hard Rock band.
Three years ago, Whitesnake released "Good To Be Bad", a comeback album that reached the U.K.’s Top 5. It walked the line between their brand of U.K. Hard Rock and ‘80s Glam Metal. On "Forevermore", David Coverdale polishes the production - a tad - focuses the guitars more, and successfully fuses Whitesnake's various eras, and succeeds in spades. There is a new rhythm section with drummer Brian Tichy and bassist Michael Devlin.
"Forevermore" commences with “Steal Your Heart Away”, an oldschool, nasty, slide guitar workout with a harmonica solo, that revs into a full-blown Blues-rocker with a killer chorus. Guitarists Doug Aldrich and Reb Beach shine on the instrumental bridge. The album's first single, "Love Will Set You Free", is top-notch Whitesnake that nods back to the early years while grounding itself in the present. "All Out of Luck" and "Tell Me How" measure up in the same way. "I Need You (Shine a Light)" is an enormous surprise; its hook is so infectious it sounds like Coverdale's been listening to Cheap Trick's earliest records. The acoustic midtempo ballad "One Of These Days" carries a trace of country in its melody, hearkening back to the "Restless Heart" era. Coverdale reveals he's more than competent to write a fine, lyrically savvy love song, when he’s not thinking with his dick. "Fare Thee Well", another acoustic number, showcases Coverdale at his most intimate. "Whipping Boy Blues” is a dirty slide rocker that reconciles both sides of the band. "My Evil Ways", with its calamitous drum intro, is punishing; Coverdale pulls out all the stops to deliver his finest vocal performance on the set. The album's true highlight, however, is in the closing title track. Over seven minutes, it begins as an acoustic number before morphing into a stellar Whitesnake power ballad. After a two-and-a-half minute acoustic guitar/vocal intro, the band enters with a "Kashmir"-like chord sequence; they keep it slow but increase the drama; it eventually explodes into a bone crusher with killer guitar solos and a gorgeous melody.
"Forevermore", despite its tighter arrangements and more polished production is Whitesnake at its Brit Hard Rock best!!

David Coverdale has spent the last few years touring with his latest band line-up, yet another chapter in the evolving story of Whitesnake. The band is as tight and as ready as they are ever going to be and that translates into the recording here.
While the line-up features the dual guitar attack of Doug Aldrich and Reb Beach, the absolute star of this album is Doug Aldrich. His writing partnership with David Coverdale has reaped rich rewards for fans. This duo has brought the very best out of each other and "Good To Be Bad" represents a broad cross section of all the previous Whitesnake incarnations.
A number of other fans have been taken by surprise at the ferocity of this album after the relatively lackluster new studio tracks added to the live release from 2006 and Coverdale's increasingly mellow output in recent years.
The simply massive production delivers a wall of sound and in your face guitars reminiscent of the band's biggest selling album ever, "Whitesnake" (1987); but not to be outdone, Doug's Bluesy riffs and David's warm and raspy vocal brings back memories of "Slide It In" and even 70's Whitesnake.
Drummer Chris Frasier makes an immediate impact in the band with a powerhouse performance and bassist Uriah Duffy simply hammers that rhythm section home.
Sonically bombastic and pompous in all its glory, the opening Hard Rocker Best Years blasts through the speakers like no other Whitesnake album has opened since 1987. Filled with thumping basslines, wailing guitar solos and a Coverdale vocal unrivaled since Coverdale/Page, this really kicks off the album fine style.
"Can You Hear The Wind Blow" is similarly in your face and establishes a fresh sound for the band today. "All For Love" and "A Fool In Love" further carve out the new band's sound in a Hard Rocking way.
There are a few tracks that head back to the Coverdale Page/Zeppelin influenced sound and "Call On Me" is the first track to do that. The title track “Good To Be Bad” even more so. It has a real Zeppelin feel to it and the guitar work is simply fantastic. "Lay Down Your Love" is the most obvious of all the Zeppelinesque tracks, but when it is done so well, who is to argue?
"All I Want All I Need" is the first ballad of the album and again is one of the best ballads from Coverdale in years. The other ballads both offer different textures. "Summer Rain" is smooth, acoustic and sultry, while "Til The End Of Time" is darker.
"Got What You Need" is a frantic Hard Rocker that defies the age of vocalist Coverdale, with a truly energetic blast.
Coverdale's voice may not quite be what it was, but the job of any band in the studio is to produce the very best sounding record possible and on "Good To Be Bad", Coverdale sounds better than he has in years. How these vocals were achieved is irrelevant, the fact is they have been delivered and sound great.
The songs may not quite have that magic originality or chorus strength that the tracks of 1987 had, but this has to be the band and David Coverdale's best effort since that album. Doug's Bluesy Hard Rock injection is a shot in the arm for this band and a perfect match it seems. It is the band's best album in some 20 years! Nobody of fans being disappointed with this release!! It's a hell of a comeback and ranks right near the top of the Whitesnake's catalog!!!
The album charted at number 8 on the Top Independent albums, number 23 on the Top Canadian albums, number 62 on The Billboard 200 and number 7 on the UK Albums Chart.

25th Anniversary Collectors Limited Edition remastered re-release of the sixth full-length studio album by the legendary British Hard Rock band.
 It was the first Whitesnake album to be released by Geffen Records in the US, but was remixed for the release there. Because of this, two different editions of the album exist, each with its own unique qualities. The European edition of the album contains the original mix. This mix features a stronger presence of keyboards by Jon Lord, and the bass is more noticeable. The track order is also different from the US mix. The US mix lowers the keyboards and bass in the mix, and is more orientated around the guitars and drums. The US version features some different guitar solos to the European edition, with the addition of John Sykes as a third guitarist layered on top of the original guitar parts recorded by Mel Galley and Micky Moody. The bass guitar parts which were originally recorded by Colin Hodgkinson were replaced by returning member Neil Murray's bass guitar parts. The US version also included some new keyboard parts by Bill Cuomo.
 It was their fourth top 10 album in the UK, peaking at number 9. In 1988 the album re-entered the US charts due to the success of the self-titled “Whitesnake” album (1987 in Europe), and is certified double Platinum. It was the final Whitesnake recording to use the band's original "snake" logo.
 In 2009, the album was re-issued as a 2-disc digipack to commemorate its 25th anniversary. On the first disc, the CD contains the entire US mix of the album and 8 of the original UK mixes digitally remastered, although the 1987 remixed version of "Need Your Love So Bad" is used on this release instead of the original version. The UK mixes of "Hungry for Love" or "Love Ain't No Stranger" are not included, but the acoustic version of "Love Ain't No Stranger" is featured (taken from “Starkers in Tokyo”). A DVD contains promo videos and live performances.

Even so, the band’s founder and lead singer, David Coverdale has never been a stranger to the occasional ballad, going back to his early days with Deep Purple on “Soldier Of Fortune” and, most famously, with Whitesnake on the 1987 No. 1 smash, “Here I Go Again”. The band revisits some of its best acoustic performances with "Unzipped", includes previously unreleased studio recordings & live unplugged and acoustic-based performances, recorded over the past 20+ years.
The first CD mixes rare and unreleased versions of songs like “Summer Rain” and “Forevermore” from the band’s recent studio albums, "Good To Be Bad" (2008) and "Forevermore" (2011). Also included are songs like “Love Is Blind” from Coverdale’s solo album, "Into The Light" (2000) and a previously unreleased song, “All The Time In The World”.
In 1997, Coverdale and guitarist Adrian Vandenberg played an unplugged concert in Tokyo, that was recorded and initially released exclusively in Japan as "Starkers In Tokyo". That recording has been remixed and now released as a second CD of "Unzipped". Also, here we can find bonus tracks from a concert in New York in 2008.

"Trouble" was a band made up of seasoned veterans, after all, and they knew exactly what it was they wanted: edgy Hard Rock based on R&B. They also knew who was boss: Coverdale, who after enduring a minority stake in the mighty Deep Purple, was now clearly established as top dog and de facto leader of the new outfit. And what a slick, powerful outfit it was, too, with guitarists Marsden and Micky Moody compensating whatever visual shortcomings they may have had with their rock-solid six-string partnership, and former Deep Purple organist Jon Lord (for the first time in Whitesnake line-up) holding it all together in the back.
"Trouble" turned out to be the first step in a long, and very successful career. The album reached No. 50 on the UK Albums Chart when it was released in October 1978.

Originally released on 30 January 1984 in Europe, by Liberty/EMI, the album was remixed for the American market, later issued on 16 April 1984 in North America by Geffen. In Japan, it was issued a "European" Mix release date on 23 March 1984, and an "American" remix on 21 December 1984 by CBS/Sony. Widely regarded as a moderate success, it helped the American market to open up for the band's sound and breakthrough throughout the later 1980s.
Two different editions of the album exist, each with its own unique qualities. The original "European" mix was criticized as "flat" sounding, while the "American" remixed version compromises a more modern approach, giving Whitesnake the "voice" that it wanted. The remix ultimately marked a change in the band's sound, closer to the American Glam Metal Rock scene.
This version features some different guitar solos to the European edition, with the addition of John Sykes as a third guitarist layered on top of the original guitar parts recorded by Mel Galley and Micky Moody. The original bass guitar parts recorded by Colin Hodgkinson were completely replaced by returning member Neil Murray's bass guitar parts on this version and it also includes some new keyboard parts by Bill Cuomo, differing from the original recording.
It was their fourth top 10 album in the UK, peaking at number 9. In 1988 the album re-entered the US charts due to the success of the self-titled “Whitesnake” album (1987 in Europe), and is certified double Platinum. It was the final Whitesnake recording to use the band's original "snake" logo.

Also known as “Whitesnake” or “Snake Album” (released in Europe as “1987” and as “Serpens Albus” in Japan and USA). The differences are small, but they are enough to make it interesting. The first difference is the track order, which is very different. The album seems to flow a little better the way it is presented here, especially when utilizing "Still of the Night" as the opening track. This has always been one of their best songs, and by far one of the best Led Zeppelin rip-offs to ever be written. There are also two more songs than on the American release, making it that much more essential to fans. Of the two, "Looking for Love" is the standout; a nice slow build to a blustery chorus makes this a classic David Coverdale ballad. "You're Gonna Break My Heart Again" is the hard rocker, and though it isn't exactly the holy grail of Hard Rock, it is a decent song that fits nicely with the other material here. If the option is presented, this is the superior edition and should be purchased above the edited American version. Fans will need the two extra songs, while anyone looking to hear their best album should hunt this down for the superior track order!
The album aimed for more of a Heavy Metal sound than the previous ones but still managed to produce a major Soft Rock hit, "Is This Love". David Coverdale built Whitesnake's commercial breakthrough on a collection of loud, polished Hard Rockers, plus the band's best set of Pop hooks. The Led Zeppelin-ish "Still of the Night" offered headbanger appeal, but it was the big chorus of "Here I Go Again" - one of the very small number of non-power ballad '80s Hard Rock singles to actually top the Pop charts, and the quiet ballad "Is This Love" that really sold the album in spades. The rest of the album generally holds interest as well, and it's easily the band's best!!
The album was a major crossover hit eventually selling over eight million copies in the US (and thus going 8 times Platinum). The album peaked at #2 on US Billboard 200, and #8 on the UK Albums Chart. Its success in the US boosted its predecessor, "Slide It In", from Gold to double Platinum status.
