We've been waiting for this release with great impatience, not only because their previous album, "Blood Rapture", was one of 2002's highlights, but also because they're one of the leviathans in the Brutal Death field, a band that made throughout its career numerous and steadily taken steps of progress. A band that must, at last, obtain the recognition it surely deserves, as with "Primal Massacre" they look straight in the eye the institutional names of the genre and equally claim their stay on the throne.

The first re-release of the second full-length studio album by Swedish Death Metal band.
Approximate two years after “Raped In Their Own Blood”, Vomitory returned with a slightly changed line-up and a far better second album. It's their first and only album with Jussi Linna on vocals and the first with Erik Rundqvist on bass, who would later also become vocalist for the band.
Even though most of the typical Swedish trademarks did remain (especially in the guitar department), it seems that Vomitory had additionally listened to a lot of American Death Metal stuff as well while writing the eight songs for this album. Everything had just become so much more brutal!
The first Vomitory album to be released in the U.S., "Redemption" is an unrepentantly back-to-basics Death Metal album, pushed over the top by the band's undeniable musical chops (particularly the unbelievable drumming). There’s a big step forward in the production and the guys’ playing abilities have also become a lot better, which resulted in some really outstanding and totally crushing tracks. This is Death Metal in its purest form!!

In the beginning of 2006, songwriting commenced for the album "Terrorize Brutalize Sodomize". With a new guitarist on board, the ideas and inspiration started flowing and in December Vomitory entered Leon Music Studio in their hometown Karlstad, breaking up a long working relationship with Henrik Larsson on good terms, to try out something new, since the loss of guitarist Ulf and having Peter on board marked some kind of new start for Vomitory. The choice of working with producer/engineer Rikard Lfgren turned out to be a great one since "Terrorize Brutalize Sodomize" contains the best production they ever had and the songwriting displays the most brutal, the fastest as well as the slowest material you ever heard from Vomitory. 10 tracks of relentless Death Metal, the way only Vomitory can compose it!

Compared to the older efforts by this band, "Opus Mortis VIII" shows a little less pure Death Metal style but, that does not mean that it is less anger and killer.
The production of the album is excellent. The very 'dark' guitars are heard during the whole album, and the work done just great. The solos are simply great as their musicality and skilful scales brings each song a great sound. The drums have a pretty good rhythm and clear sound, and the vocals are mixed above the music well. With respect to the voice of Erick, he does an exceptional job here, and gives to the album the "Death" voice style. Also, the music on this album has a good pattern and rhythm, making it nicely structured.
"Opus Mortis VIII" is a very good album and is recommended, especially if you are looking for a bit less impulsive and more old-fashioned Vomitory. But if you love Death Metal in general, this cannot be overlooked!
