"5150" was notable for a number of love songs and ballads, a contrast of the straightforward Rock stylings of the Roth era. Despite the controversy of replacing Roth, the album was band's first to top the Billboard 200. The album hit number 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, surpassing the band's previous album, "1984", which had peaked at number 2 behind Michael Jackson's "Thriller" album, on which Eddie Van Halen made a guest appearance. It was also Hagar's first #1, as stated by him on the "Live Without A Net" concert video. Album opener, "Good Enough", can be heard in the movie "Spaceballs".
Even with a new singer fronting the band and a new proclivity for synthesized sounds, Van Halen showed themselves ready as ever to turn up the amps and let it fly. "5150" was a party on a platter, as any Van Halen record should be!

Released per the label's request that the band record an album to keep them in the public eye, "Diver Down" was recorded with producer Ted Templeman over the course of twelve days. As a result of its quick production, the album is heavy on cover versions as well as genre experiments and guitar interludes. Alongside full-length original songs, the material includes excursions into Jazz, Country Blues, Doo-wop, a Cappella and Neoclassical music, in addition to covers of mid-1960s songs – the biggest of these, reworkings of Roy Orbison's "(Oh) Pretty Woman" and Martha & The Vandellas' "Dancing in the Street", were Hit Singles.
"Diver Down" spent 65 weeks on the album chart in the United States and sold four million copies in the United States by 1998. Compared to the band's debut album, "Van Halen II" sees the band stretching out their sound and developing on directions only hinted before, and is often seen as lighter and Poppier in tone; however, according to author Morgan Brown, it is evenly balanced between radio-friendly songs and "more intense, aggressive material". Eddie said: "I hate it when albums are happy-happy or heavy-heavy all the way through. We had a little bit of both on Van Halen II".
Released by Warner Bros Records on March 23, 1979, "Van Halen II" peaked at number six on the U.S. Billboard Top LPs & Tape chart and yielded hit Singles "Dance the Night Away" and "Beautiful Girls."
As of 2004, it had sold almost six million copies in the United States alone, and was certified 5× Platinum.

The first Australian release of the sixth full-length studio album by legendary American Hard Rock band.
The last Van Halen album until "A Different Kind Of Truth" (2012) to feature lead singer David Lee Roth, who left in 1985 following creative differences. As of 2019, this would be the final full-length album to feature all four original members (Van Halen brothers, Roth, and Michael Anthony). Roth would return in 2007, but Eddie's son Wolfgang would replace Anthony in 2006.
"1984" and debut album are Van Halen's bestselling albums, each having sold more than 10 million copies. Rolling Stone ranked the album number 81 on its list of the 100 Greatest Albums of the 1980s. It reached number two on the Billboard 200 album chart and remained there for five weeks, behind Michael Jackson's "Thriller" (on which guitarist Eddie Van Halen made a guest performance). The album was certified diamond by the Recording Industry Association of America in 1999. The album was also included in the book "1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die". Guitar World Magazine placed the album on their list of "New Sensations: 50 Iconic Albums That Defined 1984".

Van Halen needs no introduction – it's one of the world's most legendary rock bands with some of the world's most unforgettable songs. This 6CD Box Set documents the band's indelible history, containing all of Van Halen's Studio Albums from 1978-1984 (otherwise known as the David Lee Roth years).
Van Halen did have a few real classics – the band's self-titled 1970s debut, the hit album "1984" and of course the "Fair Warning" (1981), filled with innovative drums and guitar bits. After Roth, the producer, manager, and stage crew left, Van Halen created an album that sold half as much as "1984", and each subsequent record sold considerably less, saving an established audience that reached out for copies of 1995's "Balance" due to the Pop rotation of the previous "Right Now" Single.
Sales don't equal success – a lot of great songwriters and innovative artists aren't huge sellers, it's just that generally the Roth years are funnier, sillier and have more innovation and unexpected musical details.
A handy Box Set, neatly packaged in a clamshell box, is the perfect way to own a slice of Van Halen history. It's a nice way to get all this classic music at once!

And so, "Women And Children First", a record where the band started to get heavier, both sonically and, to a lesser extent, thematically, changing the feel of the band ever so slightly. Where the first two records were nothing but nonstop parties, there's a bit of a dark heart beating on this record, most evident on the breakneck Metal of "Romeo Delight", but also the pair of opening party anthems, "And the Cradle Will Rock" and "Everybody Wants Some!!", which don't fly quite as high as "Dance the Night Away" or "Runnin' with the Devil" because of the tense, roiling undercurrents in Eddie's riffs, especially the thudding, circular keyboard riff propelling "And the Cradle Will Rock". The very fact that a keyboard drives this song, not a guitar, is a signal of Eddie's burgeoning ambition (which would soon become inseparable from his desire for respectability), and there are already some conflicts between this sombre musicality and David Lee Roth's irrepressible hunger for fun. Where that tension would eventually tear the band apart, here it just makes for compelling music, adding richness and depth to this half-hour blast of Rock & Roll.
This is the first Van Halen album to consist entirely of original material and there's some significant growth here in the writing, evident in the winding, cynical neo-boogie "Fools" and also in the manic "Loss of Control", which gallops by with the ferocity of Hardcore Punk. These, along with all previously mentioned songs, are the heaviest music Van Halen has made (or would ever make), but as the album rushes toward the end Diamond Dave pulls them toward his Country-Blues jive fixation with "Take Your Whiskey Home" and the all-acoustic "Could This Be Magic?" giving the album a dose of levity that is welcome if not necessarily needed. Then, before the album comes to a close, the band unleashes its first stab at a power ballad with "In a Simple Rhyme", where the band's attempts at melodic grace are undercut by their compulsion to Rock. This may not make for a full-fledged power ballad, but this tension between the two extremes, by their increasing song craft and their unhinged Rock & Roll, makes for dynamic music, and captures all the contrasting glories of the album in one song.
Kerrang! Magazine listed the album at number 30 among the "100 Greatest Heavy Metal Albums of All Time", and Rolling Stone Magazine listed the album at number 36 in their list of "The 100 Greatest Metal Albums of All Time".

The first re-release of the ninth full-length studio album by legendary American Hard Rock band.
It’s the third album of Van Halen to feature vocalist Sammy Hagar.
The smirking title ("F.U.C.K.") indicates the true nature of "For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge". Backing away from the diversity of "OU812", the band turns in some of the most basic, straightforward Rock & Roll of its career. At times, "F.U.C.K." recalls the sleek Hard Rock of Hagar's early-80s albums, and it's undeniable that his limited vocal power had a great deal to do with the obvious nature of most of this music.
While the band is still tight and professional, and Eddie Van Halen's guitar work remains impressive, the songwriting is, by and large, undistinguished, with the anthemic "Right Now" standing out as the most memorable song of the batch, mainly because of its incessant chorus.
"F.U.C.K." marked a record in the band's history, seeing seven of its eleven tracks released as Singles. The album debuted at number 1 on the Billboard 200 album chart and maintained the position for three consecutive weeks.

"OU812" (pronounced "Oh, You Ate One Too") is the band's second album to feature vocalist Sammy Hagar. Van Halen began work on the album in September 1987 and completed it in April 1988, one month before its release.
Like its predecessor "5150", "OU812" hit number 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, the second of four consecutive #1 studio albums for the band. Spurred by four Billboard Hot 100 top-40 Singles ("Black and Blue" at #34, "Finish What Ya Started" at #13, "When It's Love" at #5, and "Feels So Good" at #35), the album eventually sold over 4 million copies.

Widely regarded as one of the greatest debut albums in Rock music, it was a major commercial success, peaking at number 19 on the Billboard Top LPs & Tape chart. The album has sold more than 10 million copies in the United States, receiving a Diamond certification from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) and making it one of the best-selling albums in the country.
"Van Halen" contains some of the band's most well-known songs, including "Runnin' With the Devil", "Ain't Talkin' 'bout Love", "Jamie's Cryin'", their cover version of the Kinks' 1964 song "You Really Got Me", and the instrumental "Eruption"; written and performed by guitarist Eddie Van Halen, it is widely regarded as one of the greatest guitar solos of all time and helped popularize two-handed tapping.
In 2020, the album was ranked number 292 in Rolling Stone's list of the "500 Greatest Albums of All Time".

The last of the band's four studio releases to feature Sammy Hagar as the lead singer. It is also the final Van Halen album to feature bassist Michael Anthony in its entirety.
Featuring a more serious tone than other Van Halen albums, "Balance" features a full integration of Eddie Van Halen's guitar riffs and keyboard work and contains three instrumentals.
"Balance" reached number 1 on the U.S. Billboard 200 in February 1995 and reached triple Platinum status on May 12, 2004, by selling more than three million copies in the US. "The Seventh Seal" was nominated for a Grammy for Best Hard Rock Performance.

Van Halen has 12 studio albums, with their first 1978 debut, featuring David Lee Roth, and their 2012 album, "A Different Kind Of Truth", being the last studio effort. Notable studio albums include "1984" and "5150", which topped charts, while recent rarities have been collected in Box Sets, such as the "The Collection II" ("Studio Albums & Rarities 1986 - 1996"), which includes all four Sammy Hagar era albums (from 1986 to 1995), as well as B-sides and rarities from the Sammy Hagar era.
The Box Set includes remastered versions of "5150" (1986), "OU812" (1988), "For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge" (1991), "Balance" (1995), plus a bonus CD of "Studio Rarities" (1989 - 2004).
This set allows for a re-evaluation of the Van Halen years, with Sammy Hagar replacing David Lee Roth. It spotlights Van Halen’s second incarnation, with singer Sammy Hagar, guitarist Eddie Van Halen, drummer Alex Van Halen, and bassist Michael Anthony. All the music in the set was mastered directly from the original master tapes, a process overseen by the band’s longtime engineer, Donn Landee. 
The compilation boasts other exceptional highlights, including the band’s cover of Little Feat’s “A Apolitical Blues” and the instrumental “Baluchitherium”, which were originally left off the vinyl versions of "OU812" and "Balance", respectively. Additionally, the set features two songs the band contributed to the "Twister" soundtrack – “Humans Being” and the Grammy nominated “Respect The Wind.” 
Rounding out the set are “It’s About Time”, “Up For Breakfast”, and “Learning To See”, which were recorded during the band’s temporary reunion with Hagar in 2004. All three debuted that year on Van Halen’s second greatest hits collection, "The Best Of Both Worlds".
"These records were recorded before (without) ProTools or digital recording: it was analogue on reel to reel tape recorders. There's a very special sound to that type of recording. We were careful not to destroy any of that, but to re-master with more modern technical equipment, to bring out that wonderful magical sound. Where do you hear this stuff!?
