The first re-release of the seventh full-length studio album by legendary German Thrash Metal band, and, for the first time on vinyl, the debut full-length studio album by Tankard’s Punk/Metal side project, Tankwart.
"The Tankard" (1995) was the final album released on Noise by Tankard. Where Tankard touched some serious grounds with "Two-Faced", the follow-up album, "The Tankard" strives towards notably more familiar and lightsome directions. In fact, this release may be one of Tankard’s lightest productions – by all means, heavy this is not. With a couple of exceptions, the music has a particularly happy sound despite some serious lyrics still occasionally appearing, and it seems as if the band had slowed down a bit for this record. As a whole, it’s pretty harmless stuff, not exactly a collection of classic material, although many tracks here are perhaps more memorable than on an average Tankard album. Some good, uplifting hollers like "Minds On The Moon" and "Fuck Christmas" sound particularly relaxed and play in an enjoyable manner. Perpetuating the more serious side shown on its predecessor "Two-Faced", its sound was a melting pot of their signature thrash with elements of speed, power, hardcore, and a dash of melody entwined with some of their catchiest choruses to date. So, it is somewhat inconsistent here and there, but some variation at times is only a good thing for this band.
The same year, Tankard redressed the humorous balance with their Tankwart side project of German language covers done in a Punk/Metal style, much to their fans' amusement.
"Aufgetankt" (1994) is the debut album by Tankwart, the side project of Tankard. The project covered a number of German hits from the notorious ‘Neue Deutsche Welle’ era of Pop music from the early 80s. It includes "Liebesspieler" of Die Toten Hosen, "Elke" of Die Artze, "Sternenhimmel" of Hubertkah, "Hurra, Hurra Die Schule Bennt" of Extrabeit and "Skandal Im Sperrbezirk" of the Spider Murphy Gang. Tankwart means gas station attendants.

No wonder these guys are known as "Alcoholic Thrashers" or "Beer Metallers". Most of the lyrics here are really fun. Common topics here are drinking beer, zombies, thrashing and having fun. All songs are just incredibly fast and insane.

Two years after the release of "A Girl Called Cerveza", Frankfurt drunkards are back with a new record. Even after 30 years, the band still enjoys looking for new things to craft a sound that is fully their own. This record is far closer to classic German Thrash Metal than to Tankard's trademark style. The wide variety of rhythms and riffs is a distinguishing trait of "R.I.B.". Arrangements appear fuller and harder than usual, and Gerre's powerful voice does not allow any contradictions. Its tone is often aggressive, and the cheerfulness is more in the artwork and lyrics rather than the music. Maybe this is a consequence of those gigs with Kreator and Destruction some months ago? Whatever the reason, most fans will be pleased with this album!

This Tankard album came as a huge surprise. Tankard improved musically from the rather simple HC influenced Thrash from the 80’s we all loved.
Tankard musically sound like a typical representative of the German Thrash school, meaning sophisticated violence. Of course, you simply can’t expect them to be serious in their lyrics. That’s one constant they didn’t change for 20 years already and never should. It’s simply nice to see a band that takes music as fun.
“The Beauty And The Beer” reminds so much of the later set of Holy Moses albums, or Destruction or even Kreator, but with a major difference to them. This album contains not a single bad song! Perhaps it’s their advantage that they’re making albums skipping the fillers, leaving only killer material. This is a simple, yet pure display of excellent riffs and just kick-ass straightforward Thrash Metal songs that are perfect to bang your head to. With what’s presented here, they’re a serious candidate for the throne!

This Tankard album came as a huge surprise. Tankard improved musically from the rather simple HC influenced Thrash from the 80’s we all loved.
Tankard musically sound like a typical representative of the German Thrash school, meaning sophisticated violence. Of course, you simply can’t expect them to be serious in their lyrics. That’s one constant they didn’t change for 20 years already and never should. It’s simply nice to see a band that takes music as fun.
“The Beauty And The Beer” reminds so much of the later set of Holy Moses albums, or Destruction or even Kreator, but with a major difference to them. This album contains not a single bad song! Perhaps it’s their advantage that they’re making albums skipping the fillers, leaving only killer material. This is a simple, yet pure display of excellent riffs and just kick-ass straightforward Thrash Metal songs that are perfect to bang your head to. With what’s presented here, they’re a serious candidate for the throne!

The band's 20th Anniversary celebratory album, "B-Day," might be one of the greatest Birthday presents ever given to oneself, for the amount of blazing Old-school Thrash on offer here is among the finest of their career and starts off the latest chapter of the band in grand style.
In keeping with their previous effort, "Kings Of Beer", the album as a whole leans towards a more chaotic variation on their past works, which is continued on this album as well, the songs awash in spectacular and charging riffs that are far more chaotic and off-the-rails feeling than ever before, laced with more Technicality than they’ve ever displayed previously to make the riffing that much more dynamic. As nearly all the songs are pretty much full-throttle all the way through, with a few melodic interludes placed within select songs, this blending of technicality and speed makes for a rousing return to their 80s heyday and is one of the Thrashier selections the band has produced.
There’s a lot to like with this release, as the band manages to combine two distinct styles into a coherent whole by their stellar blending of chaotic riff-work with tireless Old-school Thrash Metal that is simply infectious. Markedly distinct with the first half being ripping chaos-laced Thrash with pounding rhythms and charging guitar riffs, while the second half is a bit tamer and more Thrash with chaotic riff-work, this is a seamless shift that is pulled off only through the band’s stellar writing, which not only keeps the album moving along nicely at a quick pace, but also generating a couple of all-time classic tracks to go in their catalogue, which is quite an accomplishment.
The production job on this is also flawless, which helps the material as well, given a crisp, clean mix, that allows for everything to come through forceful, intense and noticeable, and never dominates any other instrument. Despite one or two missteps here, this anniversary album from themselves might be one of the greatest presents given out and remains one of the more important records in their vast discography.

Some will say that the original versions are better, since they bear the old days' atmosphere, and others will defend the band's right to fresh things up and probably correct some mistakes. The latter option, was chosen by Tankard and AFM Records to celebrate the band's 25 years of non-stop beer consuming by releasing a best-of compilation that feature classical tracks in re-recorded versions.
Tankard was formed in 1982 where the story tells that during their first live performance in their classroom they were drinking beer out of milk cartons since it was forbidden to consume alcohol in school. After that glorious day, the Germans released several albums where they managed to sound exactly the same — the band still plays the classic German Thrash Metal with the 80s attitude and sound!
All these classic tunes can be found among the 65 minutes of this compilation that comes with a polished sound production that takes them into another level. It's amazing that the re-recorded versions have the same feeling and atmosphere as they did 20 years ago. This compilation is the best soundtrack for relentless beer drinking, hard moshing and serious headbanging, featuring Thrash hymns like "Zombie Attack" and "Maniac Forces"! Without any doubt, this is the definite release for all the Tankard/beer fans who still respect the old-school sound! So, heads and glasses up and always keep in mind the band's famous quote "we need another f*****g beer"!!!!

Tankard have never been about reinventing the wheel or displaying ground-breaking new ideas, but there are a number of tracks that have the fortune of sounding recognizably Tankard.
Album opener, "Octane Warriors", though not without its similarities to Slayer, sets the scene for a fun-filled 45 mins of mid-paced (by Thrash standards) catchy riffage. The album's video song "Stay Thirsty" has all the elements of a classic "Ride The Lightning"-era song. "Myevilfart", the owner of one of the greatest lyrics ever sung in Metal ("The burning flame of power/ My evil fart!"), has all the fun that someone singing something so ridiculous should be having while "Echoes of Fear" has the kind of groove Destruction have intermittently shown over their past few albums and a headbanging chorus riff to boot.
On "Thirst", Tankard have a near-perfect balance of what makes them so essential for any Thrasher. To beer!!

Hailing from Frankfurt, this booze fuelled tanker truck of a Thrash Metal band was formed in 1982. Not only is Tankard still kicking ass, they are doing from the peak of the thrash metal scene in Germany. With no desire to walk the path most bands endure, diving in and out of obscurity, breaking up, rebuilding and giving it “another go”, Tankard has trucked through the last 30 some odd years producing quality Metal with a certain “charm”. This in fact sets Tankard apart from the screaming monotony of the sub-genre. However, this “charm” is not to be taken lightly. The quality of musical endowment is not lost on the group of metal heads, as the flow of fast guitars and powerful rhythms set the pace for very memorable and ear shattering pieces.
"Hymns For The Drunk" is a “best of” album, collecting songs from 2002 to 2010 during the time Tankard was signed with AFM Records. The album exemplifies the revival of the band and feels like a tribute to that period which seems to not only be a creatively active time for Tankard but also serves as a memorial to the late Henner (AFM) who helped to revive the band and lead them to producing 5 albums during their time with AFM Records.
Seriously, though being funny, sometimes takes away from the quality of the music and can turn off a lot of listeners just due to the joke getting old. But this isn’t the case with Tankard. Their musical prowess is much too strong for this theory to apply. The fact that these guys have been together 35 years (With a few changes along the way) is good enough reason to believe how tight these tunes can be. With a variety of riffs, mixed in with powerful head banging thrash, it’s hard to believe any metal head wouldn’t enjoy this album.
"Hymns For The Drunk" is a true Metal, with all the right intentions written into their songs to entice listeners with relating to what all metal heads praise, the all mighty brew!

Tankard created a record that was really "Two-Faced". After "Stone Cold Sober" Tankard concentrated on their strengths. That meant that they had to move away a bit from the Thrash formula and focus on the other styles, which had always been a part of their sound anyway, or to put it simply. This band had to find the right balance again, and they finally did. This album includes a few of the best songs that Tankard has recorded in years! While "Two-Faced" initially seems to possess many of Tankard's trademark characteristics, it also differs from the previous releases to a small degree. Lyrics are generally more serious than before, and there is a bit more variety in tempos than you might expect from a typical Tankard album. It is still easy to recognize the sharp guitar sound almost instantly, and most tracks remain similar to the band's past works. Some lack of the usual happy spirit can make this release sound somewhat more average and not so uplifting though by no means bad. Also, while certain more varied tracks have their moments, too, this album clearly proves that constantly fast thrashers are the band's strongest area, formulaic or not. Some deviation from traditions put aside, “Two-Faced" is a fair pick for anyone who enjoys Tankard's style!
