Nachtlieder is a project that has managed to establish its own identity throughout the years. Dagny is the female mastermind behind everything, and the band’s name is German for “Songs of the Night”.
With “Lynx”, she manages to take things a step further than its predecessor. This album is connected both with more traditional material and some Atmospheric Post-Metal elements. The guitar riffs work as a foundation for the melody to take over the whole album, creating many textures as the vocals take a step back, while a kind of Ambience is present.
From start to finish, it’s a very well-balanced album, offering the listener diverse moments of both ferocity and isolating disengagement. The more furious tracks blend organically with the atmospheric ones, while the drums play a crucial role in the entire album’s leverage. The production value is clean, letting us enjoy every instrument and understand the interchanges between emotional extremes such as anger and sentiment.
Once again, Dagny solidifies the band’s identity and her distinct mark on the Black Metal world. She places another very strong piece on a very solid discography, proving that any future release by her name is worth it's time to listen.

Hailing from Gothenburg, Nachtlieder is the brainchild of Swedish musician Dagny Susanne. “Views From The North, Vol. 1” was recorded during 2018 and represents a collection of unreleased tracks from 2009 to 2018.
With a strong foundation of releases, a self-titled debut in 2013, a second album, “The Female Of The Species”, in 2015, and the third album, “Lynx”, in 2018, Nachtlieder is a prime example of a band that grew stronger with each successive release.
Compared to the savage, raging, and down-tuned soundwall of the latest album, “Lynx”, the new mini-album sounds calm and thoughtful. There is an exotic and perilous feeling to the riffing, which you will notice from the very first song "In Solitude", the same type of atmosphere returns with the other songs too. The tormented quality of the vocals, with gravelly growls, adds further raw feel to the whole atmosphere. The drums batter and race, the tension in the sound surges into a feverish frenzy, channelling sounds of madness.
At any rate, all the material on “Views From The North, Vol. 1” is expertly arranged and structured. It is an excellent album that lives up to Nachtlieder’s reputation and also the strength of Dagny Susanne as a sole mastermind behind everything.
