This album, in 30-year career of the band, is also the fourth long-play released since the band's triumphant rebirth to Thrash in 2001 – a move that coincided almost perfectly with a worldwide genre revival driven by both veteran and rookie ensembles and that, as a result, saw these German survivors enjoying a long-deferred coronation for their almost unrivalled achievements. Now that trend, like all trends, has come and gone, and yet Kreator persist, still displaying, as the new material contained here bears repeated witness, 100% commitment to the original, Metal Thrashing mad raison d'être that launched them in the first place.
Filled with fire and fury, indefatigable energy, and truly incensed lyrical bile for men of such middle-aged ripeness, led as always by guiding light Mille Petrozza, the opening title track and "Civilization Collapse" dispense a moshing master class, showing the young ones how it's done, and how it'll continue to be done. Acoustic guitar-augmented cuts like "United in Hate" and "The Few, the Proud, the Broken" prove equally devastating before they're though, and just when more commercially inclined musical considerations appear to threaten Thrash's supremacy, like, say, during the highly melodic parts of "From Flood into Fire", "Victory Will Come" and "Until Our Paths Cross Again", one can rest assured that a pedal-to-the-Metal onslaught lies just around the corner. To wit, both the slower, mildly Arabian-psychedelic bridge of "Death to the World" and the contemplative mood-meets-murmured vocals of "Your Heaven, My Hell" weigh in, passing at Kreator's hit-and-miss experiments of the 1990s before returning to the prevailing mosh-fest, and within that context there really can be no hard feelings - what's past is the past. The irony of which should be lost on neither fans nor the band members themselves, since embracing the past clearly paved the way toward Kreator's future by affording them this second lease on life and career. Judging by the evidence available on "Phantom Antichrist", it's not over yet.
It isn’t a shock that Mille and company are at the top of the Thrash heap. They have been there for so many years as a mainstay and proof of the absolute relevance of the genre. The maligned Thrash revival and bastardization of the genre with “Modern Thrash” certainly could use the guidance and wisdom of this tried and true German great. Pretenders step aside, your true master has spoken!!

It has been described as their most organic album to date because barring vocals, guitar solos and some melodies, the album was recorded in a live setting on an analog tape recorder with few overdubs. Mille Petrozza noted that this was the first time they have recorded an album this way since “Pleasure to Kill” in 1986. The immediately striking thing about “Hordes Of Chaos” is how wildly aggressive it is compared to the last two albums. While its recent predecessors were undoubtedly punishing, this album is unrelentingly brutal.
From here on out, Kreator lay waste to everything in their path, including those that believed Kreator would never again sound as passionate as they did in their youth. The guitar work is undeniably amazing. The guitar solos are like battles and as each solo winds down, the band take off at lightning speed, hitting the ground running each time with a sinister force and precision that comes only with age.
Overall, this is easily Kreator’s best of the new millennium. For that matter it’s also better than most of what they did during the 90s, when they were experimenting themselves out of the consciousness of metal fans. "Hordes Of Chaos" is a shining example of why tradition is going to force you to pay attention in 2009. This was the first Kreator album to chart in the United States, debuting at number 165 on the Billboard 200 chart in the US, with first week sales of approximately 2800 copies.

Set ablaze two years after its predecessor, “Renewal” took point as the face of Kreator and their next chapters in their career. Recorded at Morrisound Studios, Tampa, Florida, it is the first Kreator’s "experimental" album, introducing noticeable elements of Industrial and Hardcore.
The strong will for a change can beat any obstacle in one’s path, whether for personal fulfillment or mainly a purpose just to show that it can be done. After piercing the skin with the iconic “Coma Of Souls” (1990), starting the 90s with an iron fist, unanimously it was decided in the band that right after attain such a formidable status, it was time to break away and set course into a different world. Such a world that in the end might not be overly far from their beastly habits, yet much more dark, mysterious, even charmingly gothic, filled with ounces of pain, misery and dismay due to society’s crumble and the human condition. Not bashing up skulls as used to in the past, Kreator proved that “Renewal” has its rougher edges, some of them even sharp and can shed blood at will. Even with mid-tempo, and on a few occasions slow tempo thrusts, the horrific past, present and future of the social structure is no less mortifying.
Maybe the need for change wasn’t because the band wanted it but also because the market demanded it as it changed as well. On the other hand, Kreator were never sellouts and remained true to their strong beliefs. “Renewal” is the band’s successful debut step outside of the Thrash Metal boundary, a marker that would eventually remain throughout the band’s 90s era!

The album continued the experimentation with Industrial music that band started on previous album, "Renewal", but brought back more of their Thrash Metal sound. It's also the only Kreator's album to feature Joe Cangelosi as the replacement of original drummer Jürgen "Ventor" Reil, which returned to the band in 1996, as well as the first to feature bassist Christian Giesler, and the last to feature guitarist Frank "Blackfire" Gosdzik.
In "Cause For Conflict", the charismatic Petrozza steps in familiar paths and rages in a furious output that seems to embody many of Kreator's old features of attitude and abilities. This album is a great reminder of just how angry and creative, Kreator were back in the day, and still are, when they wanted to. "Cause For Conflict" is relentless, heavy and in your face the entire way through. The sound is top-notch in comparison to older albums and stands the test of time well. The songwriting is inspired, the riffs are fast and memorable, and Petrozza's lyrics are exceptionally charged. The overall effect has a very 90s feel, but not in terms of melody or catchiness, but more in the sense that Kreator weren't scared to incorporate a subtle vibe of Industrial, Nu Metal, or some Hardcore mashed groove.
Writing and releasing iconic Thrash Metal anthems and extreme sounds, have paved Kreator the way for global success and a near modern Metal god status.

Kreator surely need no introduction to anyone. The Germans were among the distinctive bands who helped to shape and fashion the emerging Thrash Metal in the 1980s. And through their 80s landmark albums had stamped their own hallmark of quality, passion and aggression, in the process proving here was a special group of musicians. But not content to merely rest on their laurels and repeat what had already worked, they were now ready to take things to a new level with a record that pushed more into new territory – with the most Gothic album Kreator have ever done, as Mille states himself. The band’s first album recorded as a four piece, and probably the most underrated of all Kreator albums. It follows the trend of many other third albums like Megadeth's “So Far, So Good... So What?”, Destruction's “Release From Agony”, and Overkill's “Under The Influence” that are all underrated and overlooked.
“Terrible Certainty” is Kreator's best album after “Pleasure to Kill”. With this album, Kreator proved that they could follow up with the raw “Endless Pain” and the brutal “Pleasure To Kill”. If “Pleasure To Kill” didn't cement them among the Gods of Thrash Metal, this album definitely did! Thrash Metal at its best!!

The album continued the experimentation with Industrial music that band started on previous album, "Renewal", but brought back more of their Thrash Metal sound. It's also the only Kreator's album to feature Joe Cangelosi as the replacement of original drummer Jürgen "Ventor" Reil, which returned to the band in 1996, as well as the first to feature bassist Christian Giesler, and the last to feature guitarist Frank "Blackfire" Gosdzik.
In "Cause For Conflict", the charismatic Petrozza steps in familiar paths and rages in a furious output that seems to embody many of Kreator's old features of attitude and abilities. This album is a great reminder of just how angry and creative, Kreator were back in the day, and still are, when they wanted to. "Cause For Conflict" is relentless, heavy and in your face the entire way through. The sound is top-notch in comparison to older albums and stands the test of time well. The songwriting is inspired, the riffs are fast and memorable, and Petrozza's lyrics are exceptionally charged. The overall effect has a very 90s feel, but not in terms of melody or catchiness, but more in the sense that Kreator weren't scared to incorporate a subtle vibe of Industrial, Nu Metal, or some Hardcore mashed groove.
Writing and releasing iconic Thrash Metal anthems and extreme sounds, have paved Kreator the way for global success and a near modern Metal god status.

Formed in Essen, Germany in 1984, Kreator are arguably the most influential and successful European Thrash Metal band ever, like many of their European Speed Metal brethren, Kreator fused Metallica's Thrash innovations with Venom's Proto-Black Metal imagery. Often credited with helping pioneer Death Metal and Black Metal by containing several elements of what was to become those genres. The band has achieved worldwide sales of over two million units for combined sales of all their albums, making them one of the best-selling German Thrash Metal bands of all time. The band’s style has changed several times over the years, from a Venom-inspired Speed Metal sound, later moving in to Thrash Metal, and including a period of transitioning from Thrash to Industrial Metal and Gothic Metal throughout the 1990s. In the early 2000s, Kreator returned to their classic Thrash Metal sound, which has continued to the present. This album, in 30-year career of the band, is also the fourth long-play released since the band's triumphant rebirth to Thrash in 2001 – a move that coincided almost perfectly with a worldwide genre revival driven by both veteran and rookie ensembles and that, as a result, saw these German survivors enjoying a long-deferred coronation for their almost unrivalled achievements. Now that trend, like all trends, has come and gone, and yet Kreator persist, still displaying, as the new material contained here bears repeated witness, 100% commitment to the original, Metal Thrashing mad raison d'être that launched them in the first place.
Filled with fire and fury, indefatigable energy, and truly incensed lyrical bile for men of such middle-aged ripeness, led as always by guiding light Mille Petrozza, the opening title track and "Civilization Collapse" dispense a moshing master class, showing the young ones how it's done, and how it'll continue to be done. Acoustic guitar-augmented cuts like "United in Hate" and "The Few, the Proud, the Broken" prove equally devastating before they're though, and just when more commercially inclined musical considerations appear to threaten Thrash's supremacy, like, say, during the highly melodic parts of "From Flood into Fire", "Victory Will Come" and "Until Our Paths Cross Again", one can rest assured that a pedal-to-the-Metal onslaught lies just around the corner. To wit, both the slower, mildly Arabian-psychedelic bridge of "Death to the World" and the contemplative mood-meets-murmured vocals of "Your Heaven, My Hell" weigh in, passing at Kreator's hit-and-miss experiments of the 1990s before returning to the prevailing mosh-fest, and within that context there really can be no hard feelings - what's past is the past. The irony of which should be lost on neither fans nor the band members themselves, since embracing the past clearly paved the way toward Kreator's future by affording them this second lease on life and career. Judging by the evidence available on "Phantom Antichrist", it's not over yet.
It isn’t a shock that Mille and company are at the top of the Thrash heap. They have been there for so many years as a mainstay and proof of the absolute relevance of the genre. The maligned Thrash revival and bastardization of the genre with “Modern Thrash” certainly could use the guidance and wisdom of this tried and true German great. Pretenders step aside, your true master has spoken!!
Recommended to anyone who loves Metal or is trying to get into it! Amazing album!!!

Set ablaze two years after its predecessor, “Renewal” took point as the face of Kreator and their next chapters in their career. Recorded at Morrisound Studios, Tampa, Florida, it is the first Kreator’s "experimental" album, introducing noticeable elements of Industrial and Hardcore.
The strong will for a change can beat any obstacle in one’s path, whether for personal fulfillment or mainly a purpose just to show that it can be done. After piercing the skin with the iconic “Coma Of Souls” (1990), starting the 90s with an iron fist, unanimously it was decided in the band that right after attain such a formidable status, it was time to break away and set course into a different world. Such a world that in the end might not be overly far from their beastly habits, yet much more dark, mysterious, even charmingly Gothic, filled with ounces of pain, misery and dismay due to society’s crumble and the human condition. Not bashing up skulls as used to in the past, Kreator proved that “Renewal” has its rougher edges, some of them even sharp and can shed blood at will. Even with mid-tempo, and on a few occasions slow tempo thrusts, the horrific past, present and future of the social structure is no less mortifying.
Maybe the need for change wasn’t because the band wanted it but also because the market demanded it as it changed as well. On the other hand, Kreator were never sellouts and remained true to their strong beliefs. “Renewal” is the band’s successful debut step outside of the Thrash Metal boundary, a marker that would eventually remain throughout the band’s 90s era!

Beginning with “Renewal” in 1992, Kreator started a phase in their career of mild experimentation. Like so many other bands of the 90s, the pressures of Metal's decline and the rise of other, Alternative music seemed to shake itself off on the Germans, thus provoking an evolution of sound. To their credit, Kreator still felt and sounded like Kreator throughout all of these works. "Outcast" is Kreator stripped to the bone, with the atmosphere of nowadays' oppression and agitation. Some ditch it for not being Thrash Metal, but if you like Kreator and understand the band's soul, you might like this one too.
As far as atmosphere, the record is mixed extremely well, and despite the various tempos the tracks will move at, it all comes together to create a consistent experience. It's an interesting change for the band, which brings forward a few of the ideas initiated with "Renewal".

After almost a decade of musical experimentation with their Metal sound (starting with "Renewal"), with this album the band returned to their 1980s Thrash Metal style, although it does make use of Gothenburg Metal elements.
So strong is the album that it not only reclaims their previous glory, but even sets about to show a bit of one-upmanship on it. The album utilizes much of Kreator's earlier musical leanings while moving the band forward into a new age. In fact, in many ways it seems as if Kreator has taken lessons from recent releases that, while experimenting with new styles, left the band's old ways somewhat forgotten. By combining those experimental ideas with the old character, Kreator has basically reinvented itself. What you have is something that should please all of Kreator's old-time fans who may have felt a bit disenfranchised by the band's later works, while still creating a fresh sound.
This album is Thrash Metal the way it was meant to progress through the 90s, it is mature, brutal, and loaded with mosh-pit infusing moments in every piece. The production is top-notch, the performance fantastic, and the style near perfection. It is worth every penny to purchase, is one of the best Thrash Metal records released, and should definitely be listened to by anyone who wants anything to do with Heavy Metal music.
In 2005, "Violent Revolution" was ranked number 436 in Rock Hard Magazine's book of "The 500 Greatest Rock & Metal Albums of All Time".

Kreator is one of the three original Teutonic Thrash Metal bands. "Pleasure To Kill" shows the band's style of non-stop Thrash with Death Metal characteristics. Every song after the one-minute intro "Choir of the Damned" is extremely fast with the usual Thrash Metal style. The singing style on this album reminds somewhat of Chuck Schuldiner's with Death, but maybe a little less Death Metallish. No cookie munched singing on this album.
"Pleasure To Kill" is a solid, above average Thrash Metal album. None of the songs on this album stood out as below par for the album, making it a strong album to listen through completely. The riffs are great Thrash Metal riffs on every track, and the solos are fast and chaotic, reminding somewhat of Slayer.
"Pleasure To Kill" is widely considered a Thrash Metal classic. It is also considered a landmark album in the history of Thrash Metal along with "Master Of Puppets" by Metallica, "Peace Sells… But Who's Buying?" by Megadeth, "Reign In Blood" by Slayer, "To Mega Therion" by Celtic Frost and "Darkness Descends" by Dark Angel, all released in 1986.

It was the first release with lead guitarist Frank "Blackfire" Gosdzik (then-formerly of Sodom), and the last album before the band began experimenting with influences from other musical genres. It also their last record issued in the United States by Epic Records.
After the first four albums, which marked a high point in German Thrash Metal and rendered the band as a leader among the holy foursome, "Coma Of Souls" was the band's first steps timeframe that changed Metal music forever. In Kreator's case, even when the tides begin to shift, it doesn't mean that it would end in calamity. The 80s decade, the golden age of Metal music, ended and with the start of the 90s various kinds of influences, slowly slithered under the sheets and started wreaking havoc. Kreator post-"Extreme Aggression" underwent a line-up change that appeared to bear importance. The recruiting of ex-Sodom's Frank "Blackfire" Gosdzik resulted in another band member that actually writes and records, of course under the wing of the band's chieftain Mille Petrozza. Furthermore, and even though maturity has been a formative part of Kreator's music even in their so-called raw years of the 80s, an ongoing change that to have started in "Extreme Aggression", took a rather exemplary shape in their following cataclysmic social and environmental disorder, "Coma Of Souls".
"Coma Of Souls", with a lot of might, challenges its predecessor. Within the veils of "Coma Of Souls", conceived also by label pressure to release another album, the melodic perception appeared to fit like a glove to the newly presented songs. Even Petrozza himself, as he barks the lyrics like a fiend, sounded clearer and cleaner, also thanks to the band's ex-producer, Randy Burns. The roughness and savage grace that loomed over the previous four albums was still there, kicking and screaming, but the new integration slowly created a different kind of monster. Kreator also knew well how to slow down, producing heavy chugs of haunting, yet simplistic, rhythm that would spike motivation to grab a guitar and start jamming. The influential melodic beast "Terror Zone", horrific futuristic "When The Sun Burns Red" and the brutal disturbance of "Coma Of Souls" are nothing more than a work of art, a kind of development within Thrash Metal in general that placed it in a whole different level.
"Coma Of Souls", in a way, is a subtle version of "Extreme Aggression". Checking the band's performance in Furth, might indicate enough elements to the notion stated. Even though it seemed that on some older songs the band lowered their pedal to the Metal a little, maybe to reserve force for the classic earlier tunes that needed physical energy to maintain, Kreator wonderfully showed versions of themselves, a process that still goes on today as they paved themselves as one of the melodic Thrash Metal bands in the world.
