The first European re-release of the debut full-length studio album by cult Swedish Heavy Metal/Rock band.
Standing motionless and anonymous beneath the painted faces, hoods, and robes (which their sect demand), the six nameless ghouls of Ghost deliver litanies of sexually pulsating Heavy Rock music and romantic lyrics, which glorify and glamorize the disgusting and sacrilegious. The simple intention to communicate a message of pure evil via the most effective device they can find: Entertainment. This is Black Metal at its most original and deceiving; compositions such as “Ritual” and “Death Knell” majestically weave their melodic spell of evil through the senses until the listener finds themselves utterly possessed and open to any diabolical suggestion.
A daringly beautiful combination of Satanic Rock music with an almost unthinkable Pop sensibility, "Opus Eponymous" is where it all began for this beautifully dark global phenomenon!
"Opus Eponymous" entered the Sverigetopplistan Albums Top 60 chart at No. 59, staying on the charts for 5 weeks and peaking at No. 50. The album was nominated for the 2011 Grammis Award (the Swedish equivalent to the Grammy Awards) in the "Best Hard Rock" category. In the June 2011 edition of Sweden Rock Magazine named it the third-best album in the past decade, with the first two being "The Final Frontier" and "A Matter of Life And Death" by Iron Maiden. The album's cover was declared the fourth best of 2010 by Revolver Magazine. Noisecreep listed Ghost's version of "Here Comes The Sun" at number six on their list of the 10 Best Metal Cover Songs. In their roundup of the 25 Best Metal Albums of 2010–2019, the music blog MetalSucks declared "Opus Eponymous" to be the 5th best Metal album of the 2010s. In 2015, PopMatters called "Opus Eponymous" a 21st-century classic.
