The 1989 solo album from Eric Clapton features a slew of artists including Phil Collins, Robert Cray, George Harrison, Cecil Womack, Gary Burton and more!
Heralded as a return to form for Clapton, who had struggled with alcohol addiction and recently found sobriety, the album has a 1980s electronic sound, but it also includes blues songs like "Before You Accuse Me", "Running on Faith", and "Hard Times."
Song "Bad Love" was released as a Single, reaching the No. 1 position on the Album Rock Chart in the United States, and being awarded a Grammy Award for "Best Male Rock Vocal Performance" in 1990. "Pretending" had also reached the No. 1 position on the Album Rock Chart the previous year, remaining at the top for five weeks.
The album reached number 2 on the UK Albums Chart and 16 on the US Billboard 200 chart, and it went on to become double Platinum in the US.

In 1990 and 1991, Eric Clapton performed 42 nights at the Royal Albert Hall in London; 18 shows in 1990 and 24 in 1991. During the run of these shows, Clapton performed with three different line-ups: a Rock band, a Blues band, and an Orchestra.
"24 Nights: Rock" features 18 songs, has a running time of 2 hours 15 minutes. The Rock show line-up varied from 4, 9 or 13 band members, and the musicians included Nathan East, Ray Cooper, Greg Phillinganes, Steve Ferrone. The 4-piece in 1991 featured Phil Collins on drums.
Highlights of the songs performed include "White Room", "Layla", "Pretending", "Running on Faith", "Old Love", and "Lay Down Sally". The set also features excellent cover versions: a restrained Reggae rhythm version of Bob Dylan’s “Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door”, a Blues-Rock twist on the Bob Marley anthem “I Shot the Sheriff”, and the great J.J. Cale song “Cocaine”. The concert ends with the Cream classic “Sunshine of Your Love”.
Recorded and filmed at The Royal Albert Hall, London, England (January & February 1990 & 1991).

In 1990 and 1991, Eric Clapton performed 42 nights at the Royal Albert Hall in London; 18 shows in 1990 and 24 in 1991. During the run of these shows, Clapton performed with three different line-ups: a Rock band, a Blues band, and an Orchestra.
Arguably, the shows with the National Philharmonic Orchestra are the most unique of all the performances. The orchestra was conducted by the legendary composer Michael Kamen. Clapton had worked with Kamen previously on film soundtracks (Rush, Lethal Weapon) so it was natural for Clapton to ask Kamen to arrange the music for orchestra.
The 13-song set on "24 Nights: Orchestral" includes stunning orchestral arrangements of “Layla”, “Sunshine of Your Love”, “Wonderful Tonight”, “White Room”, “Can’t Find My Way Home”, “Bell Bottom Blues’, “I Shot The Sheriff”, “Lay down Sally”, and “Crossroads”. A special highlight is the recorded debut of the 30-minute composition that Kamen wrote especially for Eric Clapton: “Concerto For Electric Guitar”.

After being in several successful Кock bands including The Yardbirds, John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers, Cream and Blind Faith, Clapton recorded an album under his own name in late 1969 and early 1970. Clapton's eponymous solo debut was recorded after he completed a tour with Delaney & Bonnie. Eric used the core of the duo's backing band and co-wrote the majority of the songs with Delaney Bramlett accordingly.
"Eric Clapton" sounds more laid-back and straightforward than any of the guitarist's previous recordings. There are still elements of Blues and Rock & Roll, but they're hidden beneath layers of Gospel, R&B, Country, and Pop flourishes. And the Pop element of the record is the strongest of the album's many elements. "Blues Power" isn't a Blues song and only "Let It Rain," the album's closer, features extended solos. Throughout the album, Clapton turns out concise solos that de-emphasize his status as guitar god, even when they display astonishing musicality and technique.
Since then, he's released nearly two dozen LPs under his name. And it's been kind of a roller-coaster ride for the guitar hero, with personal and professional setbacks often inspiring his work – from a crippling drug addiction (which kept him out of the spotlight for several years) to the death of his young son (which spurred a huge comeback hit).
Through it all, though, he's rarely lost the focus and drive that made him one of the most buzzed-about musicians in the '60s. While recent records may not be fuelled by the creative hunger that fed his best work, he's grown into his older years by playing the music that sounds right for him at this stage. If nothing else, Clapton has aged more gracefully than most contemporaries.

The album is a combination of new material written by Clapton and classic songs, contemporary tunes, and influences interpreted in his own style.
Reuniting with producer Glyn Johns, the steady hand who guided "Slowhand" back in 1977, doesn't provide Eric Clapton with much of a jolt for this album, but it does provide the veteran guitarist with no small degree of nicely weathered warmth. Such mellowed good vibes are the calling card of "I Still Do", which otherwise proceeds along the same path Clapton's records follow in the 21st century: he blends covers of well-worn Blues standards with a couple of J.J. Cale tunes, a few old Pop standards, a Bob Dylan chestnut, and original songs that draw upon aspects of all of these.
"Spiral" and "Catch the Blues", the two EC originals that anchor the middle of the album, are handsomely crafted tunes that complement the rest of the record; they don't draw attention to themselves but rather show how hard "Cypress Grove" swings and how "Alabama Woman Blues" crawls, and reveal the lightness of "I Dreamed I Saw St. Augustine" and "Little Man, You've Had a Busy Day".
Although "I'll Be Seeing You" ends with "I Still Do" on a bit of a wistful note, this album is neither melancholy nor some kind of summation. It is simply Clapton being Clapton, enjoying the company of his longtime band and songs he's loved, and here he's fortunate enough to be produced by Johns, whose expert touch gives this weight and colour absent from the otherwise amiable "Old Sock". That's enough to give "I Still Do" some resonance, because Johns focuses not on the songs but the interplay: it's not a vibe record so much as it's an album about the interplay of old pros, who still get a kick playing those same old changes years after they've become second nature.

"Happy Xmas" is the first Christmas album by Eric Clapton, which includes 13 covers of Christmas-themed songs, both well-known and relatively obscure ones, arranged in a predominant Blues style, along with one new original song "For Love On Christmas Day" by Clapton and producer Simon Climie.
Eric Clapton's first Christmas record in a career that's spanned over four and a half decades, certainly bears its share of seasonal charm, but it's also of a piece with the warm, amiable music he's made in the 2010s. Like "Old Sock" and "I Still Do" before it, "Happy Xmas" relies on songs from other songwriters and cooks to a cosy groove that's grounded in the Blues but also encompasses Soul, Reggae, Rock, and a bit of Vaudeville shuffle ("Xmas in My Hometown"). This homey atmosphere is certainly suited for the season, even if it rarely sounds like a typical holiday record. Chalk that up to Clapton studiously avoiding a reliance on shopworn carols. When he does play an overly familiar tune, he switches it up: he opens up the affair with a Blues rendition of "White Christmas", "Silent Night" is given a Reggae bounce, "Away in a Manger" has a soulful underpinning, and he turns "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" into a seduction. These clever interpretations are nestled alongside nice holiday chestnuts, turning this into a comforting Christmas listen, so comforting that it makes the presence of "Jingle Bells (In Memory of Avicii)" more bizarre. Situated in the middle of the album, "Jingle Bells (In Memory of Avicii)" is a lite-EDM tribute to the late DJ and producer, a track that is perhaps more dexterous than Clapton's '90s electronica experiment T.D.F.

It is Clapton's first collaborative project with Phil Collins, who co-produced the album and played on some tracks. While recording the album, Clapton temporarily split with his wife, Boyd. Although he is universally considered among the most important figures in Rock & Roll, Eric Clapton has not had consistent success in translating his stature into record sales, partially because he is, in essence, a great Blues guitarist rather than a great Pop/Rock singer/songwriter. Clapton's career was in decline in the early '80s when he switched record labels from Polydor to Warner Bros., and his "Money And Cigarettes" new label debut became his first to fall below Gold record status in more than six years. As a result, Warner looked critically at his follow-up, the Phil Collins-produced "Behind The Sun", in the fall of 1984 and rejected the first version submitted, insisting that he record several new songs written by Jerry Williams, backed by Los Angeles session players under the auspices of company producers Lenny Waronker and Ted Templeman. Warner then emphasized the new tracks, releasing two of them, "Forever Man" (which reached the Top 40) and "See What Love Can Do," as Singles. Despite the tinkering, "Behind The Sun" was not among Clapton's best, although it went Gold after nearly two years in release.
After nearly a decade of Clapton's guitar playing taking a backseat to his singing/songwriting, this album contains several guitar solos. The album includes synthesizers and drum machines played by Phil Collins, Ted Templeman, Peter Robinson, Michael Omartian, James Newton Howard, Chris Stainton and Greg Phillinganes, as well as Clapton's Roland guitar synthesizer on "Never Make You Cry". Bassists Donald "Duck" Dunn from Booker T. & the MG's and Nathan East (later of the Smooth Jazz quartet Fourplay) also played on the album.
The Behind The Sun Tour was featured at the first Live Aid concert in 1985 where "She's Waiting" was performed along with "White Room" and "Layla". The video for "Forever Man" became an MTV favourite, featuring an accident where one of the cameras falls off the dolly.

Heralded as a return to form for Clapton, who had struggled with alcohol addiction and recently found sobriety, the album has a 1980s electronic sound, but it also includes blues songs like "Before You Accuse Me", "Running on Faith", and "Hard Times."
Song "Bad Love" was released as a Single, reaching the No. 1 position on the Album Rock Chart in the United States, and being awarded a Grammy Award for "Best Male Rock Vocal Performance" in 1990. "Pretending" had also reached the No. 1 position on the Album Rock Chart the previous year, remaining at the top for five weeks.
The album reached number 2 on the UK Albums Chart and 16 on the US Billboard 200 chart, and it went on to become double Platinum in the US.

The concert was recorded at the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham on 15 July 1986 in next line-up: Eric Clapton - guitar/lead vocals; Phil Collins - drums/vocals; Greg Phillinganes - keyboards/back vocals; Nathan East - bass/back vocals.
